They gave me a very fair deal for a trade in game and at the end of the day, that's really all I can ask for in this day and age. They had the copy of Pokemon Pokopia I was looking for and they were friendly. I'm not sure what that William S. guy from Government Camp was giving them a one star review for. Does he somehow not realize that there are ZERO companies that are going to give you any sort of refund for a video game UNLESS it's defective somehow? Like, get real, bud. They even tell you that when you purchase the game. It's pretty obvious why they wouldn't give you a full refund as well. Absolutely no return policy then offers you pennies on the dollar for a console you just purchased less then a month ago, with higher prices then Marketplace and Ebay save your money or go to GameStop where they actually have policies and stick to them. Staff are extremely elitist. Apparently you have to pass some sort of visual test for them to do business with you. This is a company whos stock and trade is used and vintage video games, and so to turn down extreme rarities seems counterproductive, nevertheless I just cant recommed this place. The staff have always treated me poorly as if I were some sort of crackhead. I'm a disabled veteran with Aspergers. Sue me for not appearing "normal" enough. Aside from that, limited selection, decent game prices, above average console and accessory prices, nice selection of vintage offerings. However, I'd literally only shop there if I literally couldn't find my item anywhere else. I prefer to support local so I'd normally recommend the store formerly known as CD Game Exchange, but their selection is even smaller. Ive lived in eugene/springfield all my life, and ive been a gamer all my life. Video game stores have always been a struggle for me, since I hate walmart and I refuse to step inside another gamestop. Video Game Headquarters has been there since day one. Great prices on trade ins, good prices on third party games and triple A titles. Staff is extremely nice, and overall just a great store. I live out on the far side of eugene, so going to this store has been a pain, since its a 30 minute drive, but nonetheless, ill always visit this store over gamestop anyday! read more

I married an absolute nerd, so I'm dragged into these kinds of stores all the time. So when I come across a good one that's close to home, I get excited! My husband enjoys this store because of the wide variety of games, and I like it as well. Even I can find old school games for my Game Boy Color here. Which is impressive. The store employees are always friendly and happy. They greet us as we go in, to welcome us into the store. But they aren't overbearing and in your face, before you can figure out what you're looking for. The last time we bought something in here was for my husband's Xbox One, and the employee working was really friendly, clearly a total nerd, but he chatted with both of us and we enjoyed it. We walked in after dinner, which was pretty close to their closing time, but the employee wasn't impatient or rude at all. He was totally cool with us walking in 15 minutes before closing and treated us like he had all the time in the world to let us shop and chat as we went along. I've never had to return anything here, so I don't really know about their return policies or if returns are easy or difficult. I've never had a problem with anything I've bought in here, and we own quite a few. I've also never done trades here either, so I don't have an opinion on that. Prices seem pretty fair and normal. I'm no expert on video game prices, but I've been to enough stores with my husband to have a decent idea of what's good and bad, and it's pretty comparable to everywhere else. I always enjoy popping into this store when I'm looking for anime or a cheap film for the near future or immediate evening. If you are looking for a season of a particular show or easy access to a DVD/Blu-ray for a good price, then this place is definitely for you. I don't own a gaming console and only rarely play on PC, so the general selection of video games don't really concern me as a customer (aka. I can't speak to that part of the store). As far as customer service, the staff have never really reached above and beyond to talk to me or solidify me as a loyal regular but are definitely competent in their jobs when I've observed them testing consoles and trading/selling games. I really enjoy getting lost in the store's large film catalog and never feel pressured to buy something or move on if I'm taking my time. Best shop in the area for used games and other media. Nice selection of local art as well, I've bought many pieces there. The crew is always attentive and they know the products. I don't know why it is so hard to find a Game boy charger these days, but my wife's friend recommended we come here to find one and sure enough they had one and it was at a reasonable price. The staff was extremely friendly and had a good selection of games to choose from, also their prices for trades are better than going to national chains, where you laugh at what they give you and you're better off using your disc as a coaster. My name is really Timothy and I just had to make that clear for this place, because they never do me wrong. I've been to GameStop and some other video game shops throughout my life, and nothing compared to this shop. I am so lucky to have a place as great as Video Game Headquarters. Where do I even begin; they have a great display inside their store and a great supply of inventory. Anything I've ever needed for gaming, I found it here AND if they didn't have it, I put myself on a waiting list for what I want. When I'm on the wait list, I don't know how they get these games and consoles that I'm looking for, but more than 75% of the time, I get what I'm looking for within a matter of days to a month or two. I usually get most items on the earlier side of that as well. Gaming is a major part of my life and when I think of Gaming Paradise or Heaven on Earth, Video Game Headquarters is the Promised Land that comes to my mind. I wish I can do more than leave a good review for this place because this is my favorite video game store in my 27 years of living. Highly recommend read more

Nothing too special about this place. A bit more expensive than other spots but very well organized. I loved that the dudes working had an old TV show playing for customers.. I mean, I am not the one shopping for video games usually.. so it's nice to have other things to look at. Best part that makes them stand out from other shops... The art for sale on the walls. I've been going there for years and almost every time the employees are either impatient, rude, or act like they know everything and I know nothing. It's almost always a terrible experience. But I keep going back because you can't beat the prices. If a similar store opened up around here then I would stop using VGH in a heart beat. And the store smells bad too. read more

Recently took in a large selection of ps3, ps2, and ps1 games. Got fair value on the games, even $20 each for 4 rare titles. Wouldn't take my ps2 because they only accept the "slim" varieties, even though it was working just fine. Wouldn't take a working SNES because of a tiny chip that you had to squint to kinda-sorta see. Wouldn't take a few games they deemed too scratched even though they are better condition than some titles I get from them. Had several strategy guides for the games, even the rare ones and was offered $1 apiece for them. And finally, wouldn't take wii fit plus and board because they had too many but they were out of wii's to sell and we're happy to take that and the games - but what am I going to do with the game and board and no system??? Prices aren't that great. As of last week they still had World Cup soccer from 4 years ago for $20 - the same price it has been for years. Their selection of movies, games, and merchandise is pretty good. They will hold titles and call you when they get copies of some things, too. The guys up front are very nice and are genuinely sorry when they can't take something or get something. The owner (or manager in the back, I'm not sure) is not very pleasant so he is lucky he has hired good people to deal with the public. Overall, they are a little too picky on trade-ins but their selection is good, the prices are decent, and the staff is very good and that is why I take my business there. read more

Great store! I've been going there ever since I heard of it several years ago. I always find good deals, and If I want a certain game they will almost always have it sooner or later. They also offer to call me when it comes in but I usually prefer to just see if I can find it for fun. They have games & systems from all eras and funny nerdy staff. I don't know how they managed to get this bunch of folks together in one place, it's a hoot. It's also refreshing to have a game store around that doesn't just focus only on newer games. Game Stop always seems boring and useless to me. At VG Headquarters you can get old Nintendo games, Sega, Atari, etc. They have tons of games coming and going all the time. They also seem very successful as just about every time I go in there it's full of people and usually has a line going up to the counter and 3 or 4 workers helping people. I also have to say I really appreciate their way of doing business, offering way better amounts for used games coming in, and charging really fair prices for games! In fact, they usually have cheaper prices than St. Vincent de Paul! I do have one complaint: Once they had two copies of Crazy Taxi for Game Boy Advance. Both were marked $2 but they charged me $4 for one. I pointed out the $2 price tag & he said it was a mistake, this is a $4 game. I pointed out that the other one was also priced at $2. He went and looked, then looked the game up, & said "No, we can't sell this game for $2." If it would have been somewhere else I would have asked for the manager & got my game for the sticker price, but I like these guys and they always gave me lots of good deals and I didn't want to make a stink! But, still I felt a little hustled even though it was my own choice. I think whoever runs the store shouldn't let that happen. If the market value of a game goes up before you adjust your sticker price, you should still sell it at the sticker price. It actually seems dishonest not to, and can give people a bad impression of the store. [edit] P.S. -- There is also a guy there who keeps telling people that it's illegal to download emulators and play old games on your computer! This is just not true at all. It's only illegal to do it for a profit. Personal use does not come under copyright law. Same as making copies of copyrighted books at the library, or making a tape recording of music. So please, managers tell your nerds to stop misinforming people about this! read more

Such a great store. I have seen the staff drop what they are doing to help parents who are having a difficult time deciding on accessories, games or systems for their kid. Many parents are unaware of how games are rated, what may be contained and the basics on what games are hot and what accessories work with their system, for these folks, this may be the best store in lane county. For those like myself that are more knowledgeable they have a great selection and do steady business on their old school and used games keeping the selection fresh. Staff is always friendly, none of the apathetic just a job employees you see so frequently at national stores (best buy, eb games, gamestop etc.) All in all a great store for the old school gamer, the uninitiated parent, or the latest and greatest only type of gamer who wants the newest games, accessories and systems. read more

I went to trade some PlayStation one games to get some switch and Xbox one games. I have been in this store MANY times. They had no issue with me trading them, but had an issue and decided they must be stolen once my husband walked in and they saw he was with me. They immediately started interrogating my husband then accused us of being thieves. I did manage to find proof these are not stolen and intend to take it in there to show them! (Luckily I got these particular games off Facebook marketplace). But after watching them profile and discriminate against my Native American husband today, I will never go here again. I just looked up some of my receipts we have spent almost $2000 at this store in the last year! read more

Great selection, particularly for the last 3 generations of consoles, and decent for the retro fan such as myself. Great spot, with all kinds of great merchandise. They have a huge selection of DVDs as well new and used games for most consoles and handhelds. They are totally down to special order items for you or take your name and call you when they get a used item in stock, they have great customer service. I wait listed the new Nintendo classic a week or so before Christmas and got it within about 2 months. They give great trade in value, store credit or cash, and will buy almost anything. They also have card and board games. Staff are also very knowledgeable and down to chat about games or consoles or whatnot. They also buy and sell consoles, though mostly retro systems. read more

Recently traded in part of my collection of Gameboy, Game Gear, Xbox and Playstation 2 games that I brought up when I moved. Staff was very knowledgeable and gave very fair prices on everything. For the sheer amount that I brought in, they were very diligent and patient when dealing with the load I brought in. Prices on the games I bought with store credit was also very fair. Selection can be a little hit and miss, but hands down a better choice for video game shopping compared to something like Gamestop or Best Buy. Highly recommend, intend to give them a lot of business in the future. read more

Updating my original review to 5 stars. Whenever I'm in the area I'll make it a point to stop by this store to see what they have. Before there was Gamestop and Electronics Boutique there were "Mom and Pop" type stores that had VHS (It's a movie, on a big cassette tape kids), laserdiscs (don't ask) and a selection of used nintendo games/consoles to purchase. Most of these stores have fallen by the wayside. Fortunately, this store still exists and is is staffed with friendly people and a good selection of games and consoles. I purchased my son's Wii U from this location close to six months ago and the console is still running strong. I purchased a bunch of minecraft accessories and other games on my last visit and the customer experience was consistent with my initial experience. So, I believe that they deserve the upgrade to five stars. I hope they stay in business for a long time and will make it a point to stop by there whenever I'm in the area. read more

My son and I went in and browsed their massive selection of games. When we weren't able to find anything that really jumped out at us an employee came up to us and asked us if he could help. I did something I have never done and just told him what we liked and let him recommend a game for us. He asked us some questions and seemed extremely knowledgeable about the industry and made a nice selection for us. It turned out well too, the game is great. We will be back! read more

The only business I've ever liked enough to put a bumper sticker of their logo on my jeep. Recently, I bought a Retron 2 and twice the controller crapped out on me. Both times I took it back in, the manager and staff have been not only apologetic, but understanding and wanted to do everything they could to make it right. When the manager found out that the controller broke in the middle of playing Final Fantasy, his face turned pale and his first response was: "Oh no! Did you lose your game save? I hope you were you able to make it to a save point!" A real Geek's Geek! The first time I took it back in, they gave me a new controller, no questions asked. The second time, the manager personally swapped the Retron for a whole new unit and sold me an official controller on his recommendation. Retron controllers are pretty iffy (I've learned), but these guys were cool about it and supported their product. And that's just the thing. Every time I've been in here, not only the manager, but all of the staff, have been not only cool (as cool as Geeks can be!) but knowledgeable and genuine. They don't do the thing "other places" do: "Sup, bro! Do you like Halolololol? lol!" They'll ask you about the game you're looking at. Chances are they've played it and have something useful to say about it. If they haven't, they're curious what you know about it and what your opinions are. I buy a lot of Dreamcast games (nostalgia) here, and I've usually played them before, so if they aren't careful, I start babbling. I've been going here for about three years. On one of my first few trips in, while wearing part of a Starfleet uniform, I got into a discussion about the new Star Trek movies. I hate them, but one of the guys working behind the counter loved them. Then another employee came over who also loved them. I was outnumbered and losing ground fast. Then another employee came out of the back room and definitely said: "They are the best Star Wars movies you will ever see." It was a tie, we all agreed, so I bought my Dreamcast game and went home. They have a great selection of DVDs and Blu-Rays of all types. I usually come here to buy Stargate seasons. Their used game selection is tops, too. I haven't found better in the area! They also have some board games and Magic cards. They have some classic cartridges for old-school consoles as well. I always see them buying stock from customers, so they frequently have new material. You can put your name on a waiting list for stuff and they'll call you when it comes in and even hold it for you for two days! My only real complaint is their pricing on used consoles. It tends to be a little over market value. Whenever I go in, the place is filled with people, too. These guys do it right. This is always the first place I look for anything. I'll be a repeat customer indefinitely. If you see my gold Jeep with the sticker on it in the parking lot, you know I'm cruising around the retro section! read more

They don't get a lot of new stuff often, and it smells like gross gamers who haven't showered in days. If you go there enough, and get friendly with the guys who work there, however, it makes it worth it. They're fair with what they give you for trade, and have a fairly large selection. The staff is super friendly and nice. It's also always fun to see what nerdy movie or TV show they have on their giant TV. Decent selection of old games, too. :) Also, I'm paranoid about buying games or movies that have scratches in them. I want them to be as close to perfect looking as possible. The guys are nice enough to let me look at the discs, and if I think they're too scratched, they'll resurface them for me before I walk out the door. read more
