First time at Gambi's. We met a couple of friends for dinner. We had cocktails at the bar. Taylor was very efficient and engaging. Great drinks. For dinner we enjoyed a Cesar salad and chicken Marsala. The chicken Marsala was very good. Chicken was juicy and tender. The Marsala sauce was thick and flavorful. We also enjoyed a bottle of the Lido Zinfandel. Taylor, Spencer and Obed provided a great service. Good experience. Definitely recommend it. read more

Atmosphere was a bit odd with the skull theme but it's their thing. Same logo and theme are also on the label of the owners winery. I must say that wine was not a revisit. The food will definitely be a revisit, it was very good. House salad was fresh and tasty. The Scampi pasta was really done well, Shrimp was cooked correctly with nice garlic butter flavor and a good portion for the price. The meatballs were also very good and the sauce was rich and tomatoey without being acidic. The cheesy risotto was like Alfredo risotto very yummy. The service by Obed was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. We ended up with another brand of wine, after tasting the house label, they were very gracious and let us change and we were pleased with the new selection. She was attentive to our needs right down to making sure we had salt and pepper! I wish I remembered her name, but it was as unique as her personality! Excellent calamari. Very nice lasagna and red sauce. My wife loved her chicken marsala. Really nice tiramisu too. The Caesar salad was good also, but there was too much dressing. Great atmosphere and service - Obed was a star. Chef Spencer came out a couple times to make sure all was well. Man, I didn't take a picture because I wasn't expecting much. I done f'd up A-A-Ron. The food was great, the waiter was fun and the chef, from what I was told, was only 20 years old. I started with Calimari to share with my daughter. It was tender inside and crisp outside. The aioli it came with was tasty as well as the marinara, but the aioli stole the show. For the entree, I got the Catch of the Day. It was swordfish with a mango salsa, served with risotto and asparagus. The fish was outstanding and the salsa complimented it well. I won't hold back when I say, "I finally got a perfectly cooked fish dish in Reno." Yes it was actually, Sparks. The risotto was simple, but with flavor that surprised you. It had a basic creamy look, which worked well on a black plate, served with the fish just overlapping with the bright mango salsa on top, then 3 tender broiled asparagus. I tried my wife's lasagna and my daughter's pizza. Their take on the lasagna was delicious. It was made in a cast iron skillet, so your dish was hot all the way to the last bite. The pizza dough was perfect. I'll go back to try my own pizza, as my daughter chose her own toppings and I think it'd be better if she hadn't made changes to it. I forgot to order soup. I was so happy with my meal, and full. However, I liked everything so much, I wanted to try the soup. For desert, I had a cup of cream of onion soup. Wow, was it good. It was like a creamy French onion soup, but it also had a flavor of some browned butter in there that made it next-level. I was initially just going to get a burger, because I didn't expect much. Now I'm going back to see how great that burger has to be. Matt, our server, was fun but not annoying. He was funny and playful and probably a dude you'd enjoy having a beer with after shift. Do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with the Pirate Vincenzo Gambi, and the decor will make sense. If not, it feels a bit weird. However, knowing of Gambi, enjoying Matt, and hearing a kid was cooking the best meal I've had in Sparks (lived here on/off 50 years), it works. Do yourself a favor and try this place for dinner. Gambi's new location in the Best Western Plus off McCarran & Nugget Blvd. is a hidden gem with lots of parking. No signage that we could see but as soon as you enter the hotel you will see where to go. The restaurant is very spacious with lots of tables and high tops including a full bar. Our waiter Alexis was also the bartender and very friendly and helpful. He served my husband a Revision IPA draft beer and for me the best vodka martini. We shared a mixed salad and the chicken parm sandwich, both very good. Our only disappointment was not seeing the co-owner and chef, Spencer. We will definitely be back to try the dinner menu. Also noted: multiple TV's for watching sports, etc. The Bones (a part of the restaurant) also offers karaoke and live music. A must go-to for fun and entertainment. read more

We had such great experiences at Gambi when it was in Somerset. We were happy to hear they were moving closer to us - in a kinda off the beaten path location. We walked in and heard beautiful piano music playing... WHAT? I looked over and it was just a player piano - but it was amazingly calming, pleasant, really started the evening out well. The decor is themed - but gorgeous and warm and fun. We sat at the bar to catch the game - LOTS of TVs everywhere. I don't remember TVs in the old location - but welcome .. at least for us. The bartender/server (Jake?) was super attentive and helpful. We ordered two pre-dinner cocktails. Both were very well made. WE ordered the arancini (rice balls). Full of flavor - a little smaller than I'm used to but yummy. Then we chose the beet salad - which was AMAZING! Seriously, I would go back just for this salad. He had the Chicken Marsala and I had the Salmon - both were delish. I would like to recommend this place - and I can't wait to bring other friends here for great Italian food! read more

Caesar salad was put in and not served but charged. No one knew how to do a refund. Desert took over a half hour and we received our check before it was even served. I wish I was able to have tried the food. My boyfriend and I heard awesome reviews about this place so be surprised me with a reservation for Valentine's Day. Our reservation was at 7:30pm and we didn't get sat until 8:00pm. We waited another 30 minutes and a server had still not been by to even take our drink order. This place is slept on. The server was kind enough to ask the chef if we could order on the dinner menu. We got the scallop risotto and linguine pescatora with the bread . It was one of the best meals I've had. The bread was perfectly crisp and soft in the middle. Risotto and linguine was al dente and the scallops along with the seafood were perfectly cooked. Gambi's has exceeded my expectations on what a good restaurant is. Don't be fooled just because it is next to a best western. Their food is to die for. On my visit we were pleased to be seated by Oby! He is very welcoming and attentive. Gave us insight on this family owned restaurant making us want to come back every day! As our appetizers we got: arancini's and sliders 10/10 on both (arancini's were to die for) As our entrees I shared the penne ala vodka pasta-- hands down the perfect plate. Good thing I shared the pasta because I was full with those appetizers. To end it we got desert: crème brûlée and Kailua chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The chocolate cake will do it for me every time. We got there around 4pm just in time for their dinner menu. We heard good reviews about this place and we showed up and got seated and then proceeded to wait 45 minutes for anyone to come take our order before we even got drinks which came out the same time as our food and our appetizer never came out we were there for a total of 2 1/2 hours. Go to Gambi's and order the Rigatoni Bolognese, it is to die for. The taste is meaty, but the sauce shines through. The pasta was perfect and the entire dish along with a Caesar Salad made for the perfect meal. Carlos the bartender matched me up with a delicious red wine to accompany the dish. Well done, Carlos! We were looking for an Italian restaurant that had decent reviews. Gambi's popped up on Yelp. It did not disappoint. It's a very casual restaurant next to a Best Western hotel. We had the spaghetti and meatballs and the ravioli. Both were outstanding. We also had the calamari for an appetizer. Also want to mention our server who made us feel welcome being our first visit. We were coming from the Bay Area but he made us feel like a local. We come to Reno every year for a weekend getaway. I plan to make Gambi's one of our regular stops. read more

Tried this place for the first time in Sparks, NV, and was blown away the moment I walked in! The sailor/pirate-themed decor immediately caught my eye--it really sets the mood. The food was delicious, but what truly made the experience outstanding was our waiter, Joe Ferree. Father's Day. Everyone wants to go out to breakfast. We tried our usual and it was going to take 45 min without a reservation and lots of empty tables. We got on yelp and found Gambi's. It's attached to the Best Western. New location after moving from NW Reno. Decor is pirate themed. Not sure how I feel about that but I will say it was interesting and we had fun talking about it. Pretty empty like no one knew it was there. I believe it's only been open 4 months now. There was one server who was also the host. He was very polite and attentive. None of the four of us raved about the breakfast. It was just ok. My scramble ended up being an omelet and it was on the dry side. You can order a hot breakfast buffet for $14.99. It appears it mostly caters to hotel guests. They have local Dough Boys donuts available. We didn't partake and know they are sinful, from experience. I'd like to give Gambi's a shot for lunch and dinner. The menu has some nice options and I can see the reviews are complimentary. I've debated writing this review as I selfishly only want Gambi's to be a secret kept to myself. Don't let its location fool you, Gambi's is a magical spot bringing life to one of the weirdest pockets of town. The second you walk in you're fixated on all the fun pirate decor, the hostess and wait staff are just lovely and very attentive. The menu? Good luck because you will want to order at least 4 different items because there is so many good options to choose from. It was horrific. The meal took a very long time l to get brought out, and when it did it tasted like cardboard and sadness. Barely anyone else in the restaurant for breakfast and yet it still took almost 2 hours for French toast. They also forgot about me multiple times throughout my experience. The meatballs, calamari, and mozzarella sticks were decent, nothing stood out though. The bruschetta and garlic bread were inedible. I love garlic but the garlic was raw and way too overwhelming, which was not good. We threw those away. Total waste of money. A week ago Friday night I had the best chicken piccata I've ever had in Folsom, CA. Monday night at Gambi's, not so much. It wasn't really a blend of butter, capers, lemon, and white wine. Super strange set up as the hotel guests were seated eating their "buffet" breakfast that's included with their stay at the tables that are apart of the restaurant. Definitely wasn't the atmosphere we were wanting considering we had family in town and a bunch of hotel guests sitting by us in their pjs. There weren't bartenders were working and when asked if we can order a Bloody Mary the server stated they could try making one even though they have never made one before. We're new to the area and have been exploring all the fun restaurant options this city has to offer. Gambi's had amazing reviews and absolutely did not disappoint. We were a little hesitant when we first pulled up because of it's location in an industrial area off the freeway that looks like it might be part of the Best Western, but once we walked inside, we were so pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was warm, inviting, and perfect for a relaxed date night. It felt upscale without being stuffy, and we were comfortable from the moment we walked in. We started with the calamari and Cadillac margaritas. The calamari was seasoned perfectly, and the homemade marinara had just the right amount of spice. The margaritas were strong but still smooth and tasty. For our main course, my husband ordered the ribeye and I ordered the cioppino. We cleared our plates which is rare for me -- everything was that good. What really made the difference, though, was the service. Our wait staff gave us great recommendations, kept great conversation, and made sure our drinks were always full. We truly felt well taken care of. The chef even came out to speak with us, which made us feel especially welcomed and appreciated. We can't wait to come back! read more
