First thing we noticed was how spacious this place is! The tables are so big which is amazing. We're so used to having to switch in booths with our kids and this is the one place I actually felt comfortable eating plenty of room! The decor is awesome. Very fun decorations the place is not boring at all. Our server was so nice and attentive. Good came out fast. There is no kids menu so we had them split the spaghetti and meatballs and it was perfect size for them, big portions. I didn't like the wedge salad that much but everything else was DELICIOUS. First of all, this place deserves a shot based on service alone. Everyone was friendly from the moment I walked through the door. You can tell they care about their customers. If you don't believe me, just look at their replies to other reviews on Yelp. They take time to write actual responses to the reviews which is more than most places will do. The food was nothing to complain about. From the bread basket appetizer to our Kahlua chocolate cake, every bite was delicious. We tried their pizza, lobster ravioli, and chicken parm. The portions were perfect for the price. The ambiance was pretty cool when we walked in. They have lots of cool decorative pieces that go along with the pirate theme. I will say that I felt that the music, though not bad, did not really fit with the theme of the restaurant. If I had one gripe, I would say that the entrance is confusing. The host stand is at the door coming from the hotel lobby. If you're not coming from the hotel, you feel kind of awkward walking in through the external door and have to walk through the restaurant to get to the host stand. read more

Previously located in Somerset, but they moved to an unlikely location in Sparks on Nugget Blvd. adjacent to the old Nendels (Only important to us Sparks people). The Italian food rivals all of the other restaurants in the Reno/Sparks area. According to Yelp, they are not open yet, but they are (for the last two weeks). This 5-star restaurant is a hidden gem! Inside the Best Western Plus (55 E. Nugget Ave in Sparks) Gambi's reinvented itself after recently moving into their new digs. First of all, the new space is enormous - It's got the same pirate theme but several levels up - with lots of comfortable seating including booths and blue velvet chairs. A wrap around bar where you can watch your cocktail being served up along with several tv's throughout the entire restaurant. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week. We stopped in for lunch and I ordered the chicken parm sandwich with fries and my husband ordered the Captains omelet. Both were excellent! Our server, Bryant, was very attentive and checked on us several times. This is such a great spot - big portions and all items reasonable priced - such a fun place. Found this place randomly and was pleasantly surprised, the atmosphere was pirate themed, which we personally found very cool and unique, especially for the reno/sparks area. Our server joe was charismatic and engaged in our table. The bartender victoria made us some spectacular cocktails, and even when busy still checked in on us. The food was very well portioned for the price. The lobster ravioli was delicious however the sweet sauce was a bit overbearing. We thankfully got seated without a reservation for two, however they failed to inform us that the server in our section had quit. So we waited for 40 minutes to have someone come by and ask for our order (no we didn't even get our drink order in at this point). We waited another 40 minutes to get our food AND drinks.... We understood that it wasn't our servers fault, who informed us she was working well after her shift had ended but it was rough. When we got our food, my pasta was cold and they didn't bring our app. To add salt to the wound, it was expensive and we had to leave to go get food afterwards as the servings were small (maybe would've been fine if we got our app and dessert....). The restaurant itself wasn't bad, can't expect too much being in a best western. St least they finally have one so that people staying there don't always have to go to the nugget or dennys. The food however was not so great. We got there in time for breakfast still I ordered over medium eggs and got scrambled. I like scrambled but the eggs tasted like the powdered fake eggs that most hotels serve. If you only get eggs one way because they don't have real eggs then the server should have said something. I mean REALLY tiny and pricey. Not a good appetizer for sharing. Calamari were cooked nicely. Not too greasy and not overcooked. But again, for the price, the portion size could have been larger. The chicken Parmesan was excellent. Nice crunch on the breading, the large breast was moist and lots of cheese. Also tried the chicken Marsala, which was also nice. Good portion size and the chicken was nice and tender and the sauce was creamy and mushroom forward. I was told it would be served with asparagus (which I love), but it was served with zucchini instead. Still tasty, but I was a little disappointed. Gabby was our server and she was amazing, when we couldn't figure out what to choose her suggestions did not disappoint. I enjoyed that the cook even came out to check how everything was! Great first time experience dining at this restaurant to celebrate my birthday with my husband. Matt, our server is very attentive, personable and funny. We enjoyed all the food we ordered from cocktails, appetizers, entrees and dessert. The only thing is I found a rock about the size of a marble in my Linguine Pescatora . We also find it odd that we had to pay for bread but it didn't stop us from ordering it with our entrees. I had the distinct pleasure of dining at this restaurant last night. my mind was blown by the logos, yummy ambience the overall just tear taking and creating a really high level dining experience. we had hamburgers. We had chicken Parmesan. We had ribeye steaks. We went through that menu pretty thorough every item on point 100%. The company i work with is Grappling Experiance a traveling jiu-jitsu tournament. we are on the road nonstop and eat everywhere. this spot is by far the best food and service we have had all year and will be making Gambis our permanent choice when we are in the Reno and Sparks Nevada area. we had the pleasure of meeting the proprietor Spencer Armstrong, who came out, greeted us and asked us how our mail was. The food at Gambi's was actually quite good--much better than I expected for a restaurant located inside a Best Western. My daughter ordered the burger and loved it (though a note to the marketing team: the burger looked nothing like the photo in the elevator). I had the wedge salad and stuffed mushrooms, both of which were flavorful and well-prepared, though the portion of mushrooms felt a bit small for the price. The restaurant space itself is massive, which can make it feel a little empty and impersonal, especially during slower hours. They also tend to keep the music a bit too loud and the air conditioning uncomfortably cold--even for someone like me who usually prefers a chilly room. When we arrived for lunch around 11:30 AM, the restaurant was completely empty. We actually thought it was closed and nearly left before confirming with the front desk that it was open. Some better signage or a friendly greeter would go a long way. My biggest complaint is about the buffet breakfast. The quality and variety were underwhelming, and staff began hovering near guests around 8:45 AM, urging them to take what they wanted because the food wouldn't be replenished--even though the buffet was supposed to stay open until 9:00 AM. Coffee and water were also removed before closing time, which felt rushed and unwelcoming. If you advertise a breakfast buffet until 9:00, it should remain fully stocked and accessible until then. The staff presence also made several guests visibly uncomfortable. Overall, while lunch and dinner were surprisingly enjoyable, the breakfast experience left a lot to be desired. read more

Food was decent. Service was very slow and unprofessional. It took over an hour to get our entrees and server continued to disappear for long periods of time. The restaurant was not busy for the service to take this long. On top of that the server could not read his own hand writing and came back to ask what I ordered to drink because of that. To my surprise he did that a second time for my meal as well. The decor was interesting with a lot of skulls. The napkin holders were actually skulls. Gambi's restaurant is located in the Best Western Plus where my daughter and I stayed while I was in Sparks on business. While we enjoyed a good dinner the first night, on the second night after ordering mussels for my main course, when they were delivered and I began to eat them, I became aware of a bad taste and smell from them. Since I've enjoyed dining on a lot of mussels in other states, there was no doubt in my mind these were bad. I waited for 4-5 minutes for our waiter to return and finally had to flag down another server to ask for him that took several more minutes. When he did arrive, I told him the mussels were bad and I wasn't going to eat them, so he had to return them to the kitchen and the chef. He did take the plate back only to return and tell me the chef was busy but would take a look at them and let me know his decision. After more minutes, he returned with the menu to ask if I wanted to order something else and I wouldn't be charged for the dish. No apologies, no appearance of the chef. My appetite had disappeared, so we paid the check and left. It wasn't long before I began having symptoms of food poisoning, checked out of the hotel a day early, and drove 4 1/2 hours home. There was no refund for the last day of my reservation because I had made it through Trivago. I do not recommend this restaurant! read more
