We'd stopped in to try The Wine Project and after doing a tasting and grabbing some new wine to take with us we decided to catch a late lunch at Galvins. I understand that the area sees an influx of visitors during 3 day, but to wait for 30 minutes to get seated and then to be told that the kitchen is backed up by an hour is ridiculous. No matter that we would have ordered, we would have waited another hour for food. The waitress warned us and on our way out, we told the front of the house who had no idea. read more

Waited forever for our food. Did not get our appetizer it was given to someone else. Once our food arrived, after an hour, my wings were so over cooked there was zero meat left. Apparently they were concerned with the outside dining over the inside. Not a good experience at all. read more

The food at Galvin's was amazing. DW had the grilled chicken salad and it came out in a huge metal bowl. It was loaded with grilled chicken so she took half of it home. I had the signature Philly cheesesteak and it was very good with tender steak and veggies served in a warm, soft, steamed bun. They have a large menu so we'll have to go back and try more. I have been in Georgetown for three weeks and have gotten the fried buffalo chicken salad every week now. I also tried the small order of cheese fries which is huge, and the bleu cheese dressing is so good! I have gotten carry out on my lunch break, and the young man that has helped me every time is so kind and on top of everything. I never leave reviews, but I already love this place. Great at food!! I really like this place and I will come back. On our first trip I tried the Jalapeño Poppers and I loved them! The were a bit to spicy for my wife and I had her pull the peppers out. I love spending time in the charming downtown of Georgetown so it's been on my list for a while to try out Galvins. I have heard it can get crowded and have wait times in the evening so I decided to dine there for lunch on a Saturday right when they opened. There were so many tempting options on the menu but I chose the Philly chicken cheesesteak. It was excellent! It was also very large so I took half of it home. We went for the 1st time last Saturday and we were very disappointed. Our waitress was wonderful and suggested some items for us to try. Our appetizer was wonderful, but that is where it ended. WOW! I went to Galvin's today for the first time and I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this place. It was absolutely wonderful and I was pleasantly surprised by many aspects of my experience there. It is a large building, lots of seating and extremely comfortable. No crowding elbow to elbow in the dining room with other patrons. There's a large bar area that is elevated from the dining area, it looked to be a lot of fun for someone just wanting a cocktail or two with friends. The ambience was casual and cool, I heard BB King on the overhead music at one point. The servers were all outgoing and friendly. The menu is fairly extensive. Appetizers are plentiful and tempting. We had onion rings for the table and they were outstanding. A large portion accompanied by a ranch dipping sauce, fresh and hot. That alone would've been worth the trip! Pizza choices, Stromboli and hoagy sandwiches. Gourmet hamburger choices, a large selection of salads. I really wanted to try the taco salad, the menu description was so tempting. But instead I ordered the Tavern Fish Sandwich. I have been in search of a fish sandwich like the ones I could get in Louisville (an unlikely fish sandwich mecca) and this was far and away the BEST fish sandwich I have had in years! It was served with French fries but "homemade" chips are also available. It's a huge piece of fish on a fresh, soft hoagy style bun. Topped with lettuce and tomato and served with an excellent tarter sauce. I can't say enough good things about Galvin's. The server was excellent. The food rocked. The place was cool and fun. Some great things about this place and some frustrating things come to mind. Food is great and the place has a cool atmosphere. Generally clean. Lots of draught beers to choose from and plenty of TVs to watch the games on. Soft pretzel and cheese was great. Love the chips and salsa. We got several different Stromboli and they were huge and great! The real problem here was the service. Waited too long to get a table for four people. Waited over 10 mins before anyone came to get our drink order. Messed up one of the orders completely and since Strombolis take half an hour to make, there's no fixing it. Didn't take it off the bill and instead, took off a beer which cost them a whole $1.50 or less. If you bring the wrong plate, you take it off the bill! All in all, this is a decent place. Avoid on crowded or weekend nights. read more

Devon was our bartender/server and was great! She greeted us quickly with a smile, and seems to genuinely enjoy her job! Good bourbon selection, and my husband enjoyed his Manhattan's! It pains me to criticize family owned restaurants, but there wasn't much cheese on the Philly cheese steak. It had a pretty bland flavor. I didn't enjoy the sandwich, so I asked the waitress, Britney, if we can switch it to wings. She insisted that the sandwich was just half eaten and that she'll ask "him" When she returned, she reported that "him" had declined because it was half consumed.
