The visit to the Main Street of Midway is a feast for the eyes with a railroad track cutting through the middle of town. The aromas and lights make a visit relaxing and inspiring. Goods & Gander is the place to choose if you want something casual, where you watch the games and where you can be loud with friends and it's expected. The menu has pizzas, pastas, burgers, salads - a little bit of everything for anyone's appetite. We all had burgers and shared onion rings and potato wedges. Had to come back for Brunch. The hostess (Hallery/mgr) was rude, condescending I asked her if there was a problem because I asked to be seated on the patio she huffed and walked off. A very nice lady named Ashley who turned out to be my server stated there was not a problem so I decided to stay. I tried the breakfast pizza - it was different and very salty. I would not order this again. I will visit again. I do hope the owner(s) will correct the behavior of Hallery....her behavior and indifference to me personally is unacceptable and unwarranted. read more

Came in during a very busy time on a Saturday afternoon. The dining room was full, there was a 15 minute wait. There was one lady at the bar, one main waitress and one guy who seemed to be kind of waiting/kind of bussing. The ownership/management here need to realize that they have great workers here who handled all of that as best they could, but they need more people scheduled on weekends, periodt. Despite all that, the service was cordial and working hard to make it all work. Our server Macey was great and working so hard with basically all the tables. Meanwhile, the food was amazing. We had the fried fish platter and subbed the fries out for the Brussels, which was a great meal. Also ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes/gravy and some of the best green beans around. They make them the right way, with pork hocks in to maximize the flavor. Amazing green beans and a great experience. The staff needs more support from owner/management. Can't abuse good employees for long before they get burnt out and start showing it in front of house. Great staff here, hopefully ownership realizes that and takes steps to support them. read more

This is a return visit to this restaurant. As usual, the food was awesome. However, the wait staff was even better. Our waitress was the one with the UK Etsy sweatshirt She was very good and responded well to our humor. We came in from Louisville and stopped by late at night, not too long before closing, and they were very welcoming and did a great job. Keep an eye on your food as you eat it! Literally found some human hair, that wasn't mine & couldn't have belong to the server, amongst my meal while dining. Pretty disgusting. Will say that haven't had an (known) issues previously here. Food and people generally good. read more

went to The goose and Gander today from a Facebook advertisement. when we went in they were very busy. we were told there was a 30-45 min wait so we put our name in. we went back about 20 minutes later as we noticed lots of folks leaving. when we stepped back in we were basically ignored. a couple walked ahead of my husband and they seated them right away. When my husband said we had been waiting, they sat him at a table with no menus. We waited and my husband finally got up to get them. We waited for a long time to get waited on.. we finally did. Food took a very long time for just a burger and sandwich. my sandwich was very good but my husband ordered a medium hamburger and it was almost Completely rare. He didn't send it back because service was too slow. The waiter never even once came to check on our table... Interesting experience. May go back in the spring or summer... maybe they will be in a better mood. read more

Wow. First time there and while I do recommend it with a cavet. Atmosphere, food , were good, the service how ever was disappointing. Staff paying more attention to what appeared to be their friends at the bar instead of waiting on customers. service ! The appetizers were remarkable, the Beer Cheese and Boneless Chicken Bites (there version of chicken wings I guess) were hot and fully cooked.The Hot Brown, a classic dish is served with Kentucky Mornay. It was probably one of the best in the state that I have had. The Pizza was better than most places that serve only pizza, a New York style thin crust pizza with a delight. All in all food is great, but the service kills this review. Staff seemed more concerned with socializing than serving customers. Hopefully this will improve in the future. read more

I love when a local restaurant serves food that can rival chains, and G&G did just that! My friend and I ordered appetizers (delicious) then she had lasagna (looked amazing!) and I ordered a pizza. Yep a pizza. I had seen previous reviews mentioning it and had to try. It did not disappoint; brought out big fresh and hot (enough for 3-4 people so plan on bringing home a box full if its just you...leftovers!) The food was incredible! We had fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and coleslaw. It was all so yummy we didn't know which bite to take next. My friend said she could kick her plate. Our waitress was outstanding. We went there during a festival, it was very busy, but she was on her toes. We saw everyone pitching in and helping out. One of my best sister-friends chose The Goose and Gander to celebrate her birthday. It was a warmer day, and we sat on the patio. Our server was great; efficient and entertaining! We ordered a bottle of red blend wine to share, along with our individual meals. I chose the Black and Bleu salad, another sister-friend had the Caesar salad, and the birthday girl ordered a Spinach salad. Everything was delicious and filling, plus we enjoyed the company! Stopped here for lunch on a recommendation from some locals. We were told while in town we must try a "Hot Brown". Being from Wisconsin we had no idea what this was so we thought we'd go seek it out. It was a gorgeous day so we decided to sit outside. The building appears to be quite old and cozy on the inside like you're walking into another time. The outdoor space is really beautiful and quaint. Our waiter was great super knowledgeable and explained to us what a hot brown was. My boyfriend decided to get the hot brown and I decided to get the wedge salad. We started out with trying the Beer cheese appetizer which was amazing. My salad was quite delicious but simple. Great find as we are visiting bourbon distilleries here in Kentucky and look for local restaurants, cafe's, pub's, to enjoy local favorites for lunch and dinner. Their homemade pepperoni pizza, added sweet peppers, is outstanding. Our server CC on the patio is very friendly and has checked with us several times. Absolutely delicious! Pricing was great, especially for the amount of food provided. Our waiter was phenomenal and made the dining experience better than imagined. I don't usually go for a salad but decided to grab the black & blue and am I glad I did. It was probably the best salad I've ever eaten, the steak was cooked perfectly and the amount of blue cheese crumbles and mushrooms compared to the spinach was perfect. Nice ambience, service was great and food was very good. Location is in downtown Midway. Parking is on the street and some walking is required to get to main entrance as the restaurant is angled with no parking directly in front of it. There are two sides to the restaurant. One is more "bar-like" the other is more "dining like". The bar is located in the middle of both. A working gas fireplace warms the dining area and provides a nice feel to the place. The overall design reminds me of an Irish pub. Glass doors appear to be operational for open air dining experience during good weather which would add a wonderful component to this facility. Menu selections consisted mostly of sandwiches, pizza or bar-like food. There were entrees selections, but not as many as I would have liked. Pricing was fair. Portions were good. Burgers were thick, flavor and cooked to perfection. Fries were coated, unique and delicious. Server was prompt and offered good suggestions. A great place for lunch. Recommend. read more

What an awesome unexpected experience! Jeremy provided exceptional customer service. The food was delicious. Our family had the sirloin steak, cheese burger, and grilled chicken sandwich. Love the mac & cheese and fried brussel sprouts. My daughter enjoyed her sweet tea and the adults had the $5 Kentucky mules which were super refreshing after a long drive. Nice selection of bourbon too. Restaurant is in historic Midway which is not too far from the highway, super quaint area, and a good stop between Lexington and Louisville. read more

Went to visit with our son at Midway and after getting quit a few recommendations from family and friends we decided to give this place a try. My husband and i decided on beer cheese with pretzel bites which were so yummy and to think carrots and celery served with it great idea! For our meal we decided on their Margherita pizza which was amazing just enough of everything on it, while my son ordered the Midway burger which we all tasted and that flam broiled taste mmmm was so fresh and delicious everything was perfect so glad we took a chance. Only complaint is the menu needs updated everything we looked to order went up $4-$5 dollars other then that GREAT experience! read more

We went there on a Friday night at 5:30 so we could sit outside. It was a beautiful night and the food was great. Each person got a different entree so it was great to see the variety of choices they have. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we even got dessert - pecan pie and cheesecake. I got the "Pink Lady" cocktail that was delicious. We skipped appetizers and went straight for the main course. Our table consisted of fried chicken dinner, meat loaf, Parmesan chicken sandwich, fish dinner and chicken sandwich. This was my first time to Midway and the best part is the location. There is a railroad track down the center of Main Street and we did experience a train during dinner. There are several restaurants with outdoor seating and it's just a quaint little town full of charm. I highly recommend visiting. It's only 30 minutes from Lexington. read more

This is a frequent stop after work on the weekends. Located in one of the cutest towns in the bluegrass, Midway is a must visit. Coming from Lexington? Travel by Old Frankfort Pike which takes you through KYs finest farms. The goose and gander has a very friendly menu for all ages. The atmosphere is southern and quaint offering a very comfortable pet friendly outdoor patio. Some of my favorites include the tomato and mozzarella sandwich, have tried most of their pizzas and can't say a bad thing about one. The servers and staff are super friendly.
