Great place to hang out with friends. The outside patio was perfect for our Rotary gathering. We had a terrific time. I'm not a beer drinker but the wine was great! The appetizers were good. Several of us ordered different appetizers and we all shared. I had a couple glasses of a rose wine while the husband had an amber ale. We went here looking for the beer we had at one of the local restaurants. As the name says "where u brew" I didn't know what to expect. This isn't a bar setting, they do have some tables and about six drinks on tap. Their main business looks to be helping you brew your own beer or wine. They have a list of different types beer you can brew. You do everything there, leave it to ferment then come back to bottle it. The wine is done in a similar way. You buy a kit that has all you need to make the type of wine you want to make. They have different levels of kits like a good, better and best. They said while the product ferments they keep an eye on it and help it out if needed. You can buy bottles there or bring your own. We did find the beer we were looking for and more including their in house root beer. The server was friendly and told us about the brewing part of the company. Maybe next time. read more

I received a gift of beer last Christmas from a fraternity brother and it was one of the best gifts I ever! Home brewing can be a pain at times (but most pleasant when everything is done!) due to storage space and time constraints, but Gallagher's makes it really easy from brewing to bottling (I haven't brewed beer since college). The hardest part of the whole process is deciding what kind of beer you want to brew! They have a large 3-ring binder full of recipes on site, but they do have a list of their top 50 recipes online! Each recipe will have a corresponding description to its local/national style brand. I went with one of my favorites - Mac & Jack African Amber (Gallagher's name is Galley Mac). I said earlier that they make things easy for the user here as long as you grasp two important concepts - basic reading comprehension (since you are reading this there should be no problem) and a keeping time. Once you decide on what beer you want to brew, you will be given a recipe card that lists all the ingredients that you will have to gather and set up at your brewing station and it tells you when to add those ingredients to the kettle. If you have any need of assistance, there are plenty of friendly brew masters there to help you out! You will need to budget 1.5 - 2 hours to brew your beer/wort. Afterwards, a brew master will help out with filling a keg for chilling. After that it is a two week wait and you get to bottle your beer! That's it! A full batch of beer is 13 gallons which is roughly 75 22oz bottles of beer! I need to get back and brew more beer! To the best X-mas gift ever! This is an awesome place to learn to brew. It's a great setting for it--knowledgable, friendly, cool, helpful people, and all the equipment is right there. It's a great business model that isn't adopted many other places in town...if any, actually. Now, to be clear, brewing is an art that's very easy to learn, if tough to master. It's like a well-designed game that way--you can be having fun and succeeding pretty quickly, but sticking with it will really expand your skills. So if you've read up on it and you're thinking it's well within your grasp, you're probably right. What can be a little daunting at first is just walking through the equipment, and maintaining a sense of just how crucial the cleaning all is. One nice things about Gallagher's is that virtually all of the cleaning is done for you. You can focus on the fun parts until you're fully up to speed. Brewing is in many ways a social hobby. And I'm not talking about the tasting part yet at all--exchanging recipes, critiquing new recipes, hanging out on brew day, those are all great occasions to hang out with like-minded souls. Gallagher's builds that in for you by giving you some camaraderie and conversation while you're getting up to speed. But these are the benefits of any u-brew place. And you could argue that joining a homebrew club would fit the same bill if you hit it off socially with your mates in the club. But Gallagher's is always open, always there. No reason not to think about doing both. What makes Gallagher's cool specifically is that the staff are so nice, and you can relax and watch the game and have a beer from their tap lineup, which are their beers, and only pouring there. They will manage the fermentation and every other storage aspect of the beer for you until it's ready to bottle (or keg) and take home. I brewed my first batch of beer (White Knuckle) with a good friend in August 2008 and had a great time. We bottled 2 weeks later and had a brew that was better than anything you could find at BevMo (even if there were a BevMo in Washington). Gallagher's is set up well to help you assemble, weigh, and prepare your ingredients. The brewmasters are there to help at any stage. A large number of regulars show up at Gallagher's to enjoy the beer on tap. Food is not served here so plan accordingly. State law does not allow minors to enter but on events such as Halloween someone will sit just outside the front door and had out candy to the kids. Whether you want to brew or hang out and drink some real microbrew goodness Gallagher's is a great place. read more

Pretty cool place! We haven't been to many breweries that do a U Brew but this one seemed to be the most fun one! The facility looked great and everyone was very friendly and helpful. We didn't do a brew ourselves but someday we will and this place is just as good as a candidate as any despite it being across town. I had a really good amber beer here. It wasn't as bready as I would have liked but it had a intriguing, subtle flavor to it which made it a good "go to" beer for this place. We would love to come back and once we are ready to make the plunge towards brewing our own beer we might just be heading here! read more

American Cannonball Stout. this is such a fun place to stop by on a whim. there are serious brewers here. but for me, just a dilletante, i love walking in here and watching all the home brewers hanging out. there is beer on tap available in tasting size as well as full blown pints. the flavors change out often. this is a very educational place for me to learn about the various beers. read more

COME HERE! Seriously, this place is so much fun. I've been in Washington for over 3 years now and this has been one of my favorite places to venture. Marci and Tom are the owners of this place and so chill and fun to hang out with. The atmosphere is just what you would expect a u-Brew to be. Laid back and awesome. One of the first things I loved was when you go to the bar they literally just have a mini white board on the taps to fill in the name and then when you open up a tab your name Just goes on the larger white board and you get a tally started. Dog friendly, so yes, that's awesome. And it's right up the road from Edmonds dog beach. This is will now be a regular spot for me, I can't believe I've been going to the dog beach all this time meanwhile passing this spot up! Never again lol. I loved this spot because it made me feel like I was visiting family with how welcoming and friendly the owners and staff are. This would be a great spot for bachelor or bachelorette groups to brew some beer to bring to the wedding! Sports groups (hello adult flag football teams), coworkers, couples, you name it. Everyone could use some fresh brew in their life. Walk-on items: -They don't serve food so stop into the bar across the street and order to-go so you can bring it in. We brew at Gallagher's every few months, and take home some root beer too! The staff is attentive and helpful, but stay out of your way unless you ask them to hold your hand. All the fun of brewing without the messy clean up. You can taste test a lot of the recipes before choosing one. We like Mensroom Red, and they have a comparable recipe. They don't serve food, but you can bring it in, or have it delivered. All in all, a fun way to spend date night with the hubby. read more

Love this place! The guys that work there are always really friendly. They will take the time to walk you through and help you with anything and everything you need. This place was great because I even had my brothers bachelors party here which was great because after we all spent time hanging out making beer we then used it at the wedding to serve to guests. A great place for parties as long as it's planned out in advance because you will need to leave the beer there for 2 weeks for it to ferment completely then also need to arrange a day for bottling which can be almost as fun as making it in my opinion. Gallagher's is a gem!! We went to Gallagher's after my friend purchased a wine package for my husband and me as a wedding gift. We were able to make our own Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon for our upcoming wedding. In the end we had over 50 bottles of wine and was more than enough to use for our wedding reception and still had some left over after. The pricing is excellent, and even though you have to collect and clean your own bottles, it's totally worth it!! In addition to wine, beer is also brewed here, and I think the main attraction really. They have beer on tap to try first, before choosing which beer to brew. Just like the wine, the price points for the beer is extremely reasonable. The staff here are also extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about brewing beer and wine making, which makes the whole experience even better. read more

I'm a big fan of beer and have always wanted to brew my own. However, I've never had the time or money to invest in doing it. So when my friends and I found out about Gallagher's I was pretty damn excited to finally give it a shot. Gallaghers has 52 different beers to choose from encompassing most of the different beer styles. Each beer has a comparison to a more well known beer of similar taste to help make the selection process easier. They also typically have around 8 of their beers on tap if you'd like to try one before brewing. You may bring in your own recipe if you've some prior experience. However, if it requires ingredients they don't have you'll have to bring them yourself. You can choose to purchase half or full batches. (Approximately 66 and 132 bottles, respectively. You must purchase the full batch with your own recipe) They provide all the ingredients and full instructions on how to brew each beer. They also have brewmasters about to help should you have questions. Once you get going, the process is a breeze. The equipment was clean and well kept and the instructions were detailed and easy to understand. This made the brew process stress free and allowed you to really get into it and enjoy yourself. The brewmasters were also very approachable and excellent at giving detailed answers that provided extra insight into brewing. Once you're done with the process, the brewmasters will inject the yeast and place your batches in a store room to ferment for a minimum of two weeks. You then have anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months to pick it up. (The sooner you go, the better your beer will be.) When you go to retrieve it, your brew is attached to a kegerator where you'll sample the beer. The brewmasters will add CO2 at this time so you'll be able to adjust it to your taste. With the beer to your liking, you then bottle it and head on home. This was a great experience. You're with friends brewing, drinking, and learning about beer. If you're a beer lover, it doesn't get much better than that. Gallagher's is a great place to try your hand at brewing. Go with a group of people who share a similar passion for beer and you'll have blast. read more

My friends and I had a blast here brewing our beer! We chose to brew a half batch of the Galley Mac, which is similar to Mac & Jacks. When we arrived a few weeks ago to begin brewing, the place was packed with groups of friends in various stages of their brewing/bottling. I loved that they had several beers on tap for drinking while you brew. After choosing the beer we were going to brew, we were handed a recipe and told to "get to it." The recipe included all the instructions from measuring the barley and the hops to how long to stir the mash. It took about 2 hours from start to finish. Then 2 weeks later, we arrived back to bottle our beer. We brought 2 cases of bottles from a previous brewing experience and washed them in the on site bottle washing machine. We also brought 3 growlers which were equivalent to 5 beers each. After they hooked up our keg to the tap, we tasted it and decided we wanted more carbonation. Good thing...cause adding more carbonation made it just right! Anyway, when you go to bottle your beer, bring your friends. I can definitely see how boring it would be to bottle by yourself. But don't bring more than 3 friends because any more hands, might be too many hands. The bottling process went smoothly and quickly and before we knew it we were enjoying the last of our beers and ready to load up the car. If I lived closer to this place...I might be there once a month! read more

If you've ever wanted to brew beer but were afraid because you didn't have the knowledge or equipment. Not to worry, Gallagher's has everything you need and the guys working there are more than happy to help you make your beer and ensure you don't F it up. The place is very spacious, they've got 6 kettles and a wealth of varieties of beer to choose to brew. They even have 6 different beers on tap to make sure you never go thirsty while you are brewing. On bottling day, that's when it's time to party. I'd highly recommend everyone tries this at least once to not only learn about beer but to appreciate the amazing experience of making their own. read more

We brewed a batch of beer at Gallagher's for our company summer BBQ. I wasn't there for the initial brewing, but I did go for bottling and checked out their facility. It really couldn't be any easier and the people who work there are very helpful while being laid back and really nice. The beer we brewed was Eddy Hop, which is an IPA that's not overly hoppy and perfect for drinking on a summery day. They have all extract brewing, you measure the ingredients and put them into the big stainless steel pot. They also have several beers for you to drink. For bottling, they have a bottle washer that will sterilize your pre-cleaned bottles (that means no old dried beer or mold in the bottom), or they will sell you bottles for a pittance. They have your beer chilled and hooked up to a tap, give you a sample, you just fill the bottles on the tap and cap with capper, and voila, bottled beer. They even have a rainbow array of bottle caps for you to choose from, bottle caps are included in the price of your brew. They will also keg your beer for a keg deposit but be aware that there will be a significant amount left after kegging the first 10 gallons, those can go into an additional keg or bottles. The atmosphere is extremely casual and dog friendly. They were very busy on the Friday evening when we were bottling. No problems with parking whatsoever, there's plenty of parking in the lot and on the street. I'm really glad this place exists, the prices are very reasonable compared to having your own equipment and also very easy to make a good brew. read more

Day by day that feeling has grown. After a while that urge became really annoying so I decided to go to Gallagher's and brew some beer to drink that feeling away. Who needs the difficulty of positive change when they've made brewing at Gallagher's so easy? For the price of about $200 ($100 for a half batch) and about 2 hours of your time you can brew your own beer. If all of that sounds really daunting, relax. Gallagher's is staffed with 3 pro brewers to help you as little or much as you'd like. Recipes are on hand to help the uninitiated wannabe brewer and the more experienced are more than welcome to bring their own. The entire process, which is broken down into several very simple steps, yields about 15 gallons of fresh delicious beer. 15 gallons? Yep. That's enough to temporarily solve just about any of life's problems. read more

Gallagher's is a great way to try out brewing if you think you might like it but don't want to invest in a homebrewing set yet. They have really good equipment (way beyond what I'm likely to ever spend on my own homebrewing equipment), and that results in less work and helps ensure you get a good beer in the end. On bottling day they keg the beer and hook it up to a pressurized carbonation system so you don't need to bottle condition the beers for 2 weeks - you can drink your bottles immediately after bottling day. So that's cool, it shortens the brewing wait time significantly. It's also a really fun atmosphere at Gallagher's. There's usually a number of people hanging out and helping or watching their friends brew. Everyone is friendly and serious about beer, and there are tantalizing aromas of hops and malt in the air. The only downside I found was the fact that they have all the equipment already set up and do some of the work for you takes away some of the fun you would get from brewing at home. They do the sanitation for you, so you don't get to experience that important aspect of homebrewing (some would call it tedious drudgery, but I like experiencing all the steps of homebrewing), and you don't get to watch the yeast doing their work during fermentation week (this is the most exciting part of brewing at home for me). You also don't get to do any racking/re-racking or wort chilling via water bath (two other aspects of homebrewing that I find fun). So, Gallagher's is great if you don't know much about brewing yet and think you might want to try it out. The other case where I see Gallagher's being useful is if you're already an experienced brewer but want to brew a larger batch or use their superior experiment for a more complex recipe you have in mind. If you bring your own bottles that you've collected from beer you drink or from recycling bins, make sure you don't bring any that had twist-off caps and don't bring Belgian bottles that have non-standard cap width. read more

This is the only place in the area where you can go and brew your own beer, sure it can get expensive, but its the most fun to brew and bottle your own beer. This makes a great fun date or a way to save on Christmas presents. Not to be missed, but if you can't afford it or can't drink that much beer come and sample some others have made. You pick the beer you want to brew (and believe me, they have a ton of recipes with multiple options for each style of beer), and the guys will set you up. You get what is essentially a recipe card and the ingredients you need, follow the steps, and let the yeast start working. Several weeks later, you come back to bottle your creation. Then comes the fun part: drinking your own beer! This is a great place for groups looking for a bonding event, homebrewers, or just anyone who's into beer and down to try something new. One tip is that you don't need to be 21 to brew (since none of the ingredients for beer are alcoholic by themselves), but you do need to be 21 to bottle. It's especially fun to bottle if you're part of a massive group that brewed multiple styles of beers--there's nothing stopping you from drinking and bottling, hehe. read more

I've made beer here with friends (discount for foursomes) for several years and the results are consistently wonderful. Dennis and his attitude alone are worth the price of admission. And professional equipment, steam-cleaned, will dispel the well-deserved stereotypes about homemade beer. It's very educational to see HOW MUCH DAMN SUGAR goes into the manufacture of beer. Puts the belt-overhang in much-needed perspective. The Macbeth-witches-brewkettle step is fun and easy. What is not so fun and easy is the bottling 2 weeks later, which can be very tedious, but fortunately, you are sitting on an assload of perfect, fresh beer, so the task is somewhat lightened. Hint to the novices: Avoid the thick, dark (porter, et al.) beers, unless you intend to consume them within a week or two. The shelf-life, even in a refrigerator, is VERY brief. The IPA-ish brews will last a few months if kept properly. read more

I went here w/ family friends over the weekend (3/22) to bottle a Belgium White which my brother had just brewed. Gallagher's appeared to be quite the happening place. There were quite a few people there doing their own thing (which is brewing I'm assuming). Looks like a nice place to start out and learn brewing. Hubs and I went in for something different for a fun date night. Weird thing about us is that our "something different" usually ends up involving alcohol. Not necessarily drinking it but somehow using it or making it. So, the guys at Gallagher's could not have been more helpful, more cool, or more awesome. The process was so easy and everything was laid out in a way that made sense. You could tell that most of the people who work there are science geeks who enjoy beer or maybe beer geeks who enjoy science but I was getting a sciency vibe from a couple of them and they totally explained the science behind some of the process of both the beer making (hubs) and the cider making (way easy, no appointment needed, 10 minute add on, for me). And I really dig that! In two weeks, Hubs and I will be going back for our second date night/day there to bottle our creations. I can't wait. Gallymac is quite possibly the best beer ever conceived of by man, and is more than likely the nectar of the gods my high school teachers used to yammer on about. Spent time here twice over the past month, working with both guys, brewing and then bottling. The owner Chris is really friendly and helpful, and he goes out of his way to make the process run smoothly. He has opinions but ultimately leaves it up to you and your taste. There are numerous different recipes and sometimes the beers on tap can be a guide to which recipe you choose. The brewing process takes about 2 hours and the bottling takes less than an hour and a half. The vibe is relaxed, with good music coming from this vinyl albums and turntable. The price is very reasonable for both a half (66 12-oz bottles) and a full batch (twice that). Coming here would be a great way to spend time with a few friends or with a group of co-workers (including for a team-building experience), and ultimately results in something everyone can take home and enjoy. This is a really unique place and I would strongly encourage folks to try it out at least once. BTW, while you are brewing you can enjoy a beer or two, and you can bring food in. If their staff and brewery is in anyway reflective of their personalities, it has to be a great establishment both to work at and to visit.
