Avoid this place. The ladies working there are nice, but the quality of work is poor. I went with my friend and our two daughters (4 people total). We called ahead to make an appointment for pedicures. They got us in quickly, but the selection of regular polish was limited. 2 of our chairs did not work. Personally, that's the main reason I enjoy pedicures but they had already started on our kids so we couldn't just leave. The salon isn't very clean and they hurt my friend's toe. The massage was very fast and very light and they barely did any scrubbing during callus removal. There are plenty of other salons in the area to go to instead. read more

I wish I would have washed my hands before I left the salon so I could see how sloppy this powder dip really was. I have had many powder dips and I can tell you that just watching the process made me cringe, but I was waiting for the end result. I had been sitting there for an hour and 15 minutes and was anxious to leave especially since a lot of customers were coming in and I was tired of her grinding away on my cuticles. I got outside and when I saw how much red powder was still left on my fingers, I should've turned around and went back in and complained. But I didn't and that's my fault. I will say this, the person who did my dip guaranteed me that she had done this process many times and I find that hard to believe. She actually tried to clean some polish off of my hands with a nail file! Anyway, let the pictures speak for themselves. The salon might do well with other processes, but not a powder dip. One of the customers actually asked me how many times I've been there and I said once, and when she asked if I were coming back the manicurist said if she likes it she'll be back if not, she won't! Well, she got one thing, right. They aren't bad people at all, but they definitely don't care about their work, and although the salon is more modernized than some, it definitely is not organized. She had that red powder all over her station and all over me. She was not only sloppy, but she was very rough as well. I had to come back to this place a second time because the work they did lasted a lot longer than normal. Absolutely not worth it here. I live in HMB but work in San Bruno and usually get my nails done near work. However, since I was on vacation I needed a fill and didn't want to drive to San Bruno. I decided to come to Galaxy. I was a walk-in, but the two ladies working were nice and I only waited for about ten minutes before one called me to her table. She started working on my fill, and then a third lady who worked there came in. The lady helping me got up, the two talked and now the woman who came in late took over doing my nails. She was rough. So rough that a couple of my cuticles were bleeding as she took no time to slow down using the tools. Instead of applying the antibiotic liquid, she just wiped the blood WITH HER BARE HANDS. She also kept applying the gel top coat then would wipe it off when it was wet, again, with her fingers and not a brush. Lastly, to make matters worse I was then charged $60. For a fill! Granted, I do have ombre pink/white nails, but it took no longer to do that then regular paint takes. But $60? I pay $45 in San Bruno. In the end, lesson learned. I won't be returning here until they change a number of practices. read more

I went for the massage and came back so she could finish. When I did, she was sure to massage my hand/arms. Super friendly staff with a clean salon. One of the things that stands out the most are what looks like brand new massage spa pedicure chairs. I'm not sure why the ratings here are so low compared to other nail salons in HMB, but I think it's sheetlet based on volume. The other salons are almost always packed, and when I get my nails done there they look decent but the process is so rushed!! Galaxy takes time to blend and shape your nails, if a nail salon is not spending a good deal of time shaping and blending your nails, you are missing out and the end result will show. Your nails will look thick and fake. Galaxy blended and shaped them so good they look like my natural nails! I booked my next appointment so I can review their spa pedicure, but I can tell you that other places in HMB rush those as well, part of the price is the massage so that should never be skimped I'm in place of time. When I went to Galaxy there was no wait and the staff was friendly and kind. Their selection of gel polish is nice with more up to date new colors. They also offer waxing services. I get acrylic with gel polish and my nails are always the way I want them, even in shape, and look great. The worst gel manicure ever. ‍ why is it so hard to get a good manicure?!? Why??? I have to practically beg them not to use the drill to remove my gel. I have very sensitive nails & the drill always hurts/burn me. I offered to use the file & do it myself. They still used the drill... took almost 2 hours for a regular pedi & gel manicure. I went in this morning for a pedicure and a dip powder fill. Midway through the removal of my dip powder, I decided I wanted to change to acrylic. Tina had no problems and in fact was very gracious and did a fantastic job on my nails. Linda gave me the best pedicure. It was such a good visit, great nails and quick! read more

First thing I noticed were the newer comfy chairs with nice tubs for feet to soak in. A plastic wrap was used before putting the hot water which made it very sanitary. The ladies who work there are very friendly and accommodating. The massage with hot stone on my feet was very good and the pedicure with gel polish that cost $40 turned out real nice. After my pedicure, I decided to have white tips instead of regular gel color done for my hand nails. I was told the cost is $45. The lady did a very nice professional job. She is very skilled at what she does and took time to make my nails real nice. However, at the end of the manicure, she told me it was $50 not $45 because she did a better job on my nails, more beautiful than the lady before me whom she charged $45. I was surprised but I let that slide. Then while I was paying and deciding for a minute for a reasonable tip for the two ladies, she suggested 22% tip! I was shocked at her boldness in suggesting that to me. I felt uncomfortable and a little pressure that I paid $110 total including tips. Too bad its a hassle to go to other nearby cities to get the same service for much less when I live just close by to many nail salons in Half Moon Bay. Galaxy nails is a nice place to go don't get me wrong but they should be upfront with the rates and also not be overly presumptuous to suggest a high tip and have that sort of pressure on the customer who may or may not have enough to pay. If not for that, I would rate the place higher for neatness and nice finished manicure and pedicure. read more

I had some time to kill one evening in Half Moon Bay, and since no other nail salons were open after 6:30 pm, I found myself here. Based on the Yelp reviews, I wasn't expecting to be wowed. My experience was pretty underwhelming. Service isn't particularly friendly, and the quality of the job done wasn't very good. While I was getting a manicure, another employee from the shop came over with a bowlful (and mouthful) of cereal and asked me if I wanted a pedicure, too. I have begrudgingly come to expect the constant up-selling attempts at nail salons, but the addition of the cereal was a first for me. Weird! There are signs posted around the shop stating that checks are accepted, but tips must be paid separately. I guess this is some not-so-subtle attempt to dodge the IRS? Whatever the reason, it seems a bit sneaky. read more

I came to Galaxy Nails with 6 other girls in preparation for a wedding. For the most part everybody wanted French manicures and pedicures with the expectation of 2 ladies (including the bride) who wanted some pretty little flowers and rhinestones. We had an appointment at 10:30am. We walked out of there close to 3pm. Yep, that's right; it took over 4.5 hours for 6 manicures and pedicures (keep in mind there were about 4-5 employees) Seriously it was the longest day in history. Two reasons why it took so long: 1. They kept taking walk-ins during OUR appointment. When somebody walked in they totally stopped what they were doing and catered to the walk-in. 2. If you're looking for decorative nail art, do yourself a favor and go someplace else. The bride wanted a little flower painted on her index finger and these guys couldn't get it right. She even had a picture of what she wanted. After 30 minutes of trying she had to settle for another design. About 2 hours after we left the salon the rhinestones they added to one of the bridesmaid's toenails started shifting and falling off. Plus to top it off her acrylics were uneven and lumpy. I got your basic French manicure/pedicure and they did an OK job. They use airbrush for the French manicure and did a quick job, so my nails weren't a 100% even. I know that there aren't that many places to get your nails done in Half Moon Bay, but if you're looking for a lot of detailed artwork done on your nails and/or are a perfectionist, don't come here. read more

I went to Galaxy because my normal salon could not see me that day and I was taking a trip the next day so needed nails done quickly. The woman who gave me a pedicure did OK. But the young woman who did my fingers really cut the cuticles too much. At one point she screamed sorry, and before I sensed the pain realized she had sliced off a good part of all the cuticle on my pinky nail. I will post a picture I took when I got home. OUCH, and EEEOOW.. I understand accidents can happen, but she did it on ANOTHER nail on my other hand too. So once is an accident, twice in one sitting? That is a problem. I will NEVER come back here again. Also the nails chipped and literally cracked before I got home. Keep in mind my nails were fine before I went here. I have been coming to this Nail salon off and on for a good 5 years or so. I do not have one complaint. It's just a nail shop so I do not expect special treatments, though they have always been nice to me. Brenda is especially nice - always pleasant. Most nail shops that I know of do not take ATM payments, cash or check, so this place is no different. The nails always look wonderful and the price is right. I do not see why they would get a negative mark. read more

Ok, I have to respond to the other review about our bridal party and our nails. I love you Michelle, but this is my opinion :o) I was the bride in the party and I must agree first on a few things, 1. yes, they did repeatedly take walk-ins and leave us waiting, it did take over 4 hours :( 2. yes, I did have a picture of some nail art I had in mind for myself that did take the lady 30 minutes of trying before I finally had to ask 'what can you do?' BUT... As far as the bridesmaids nails who's rinestones were pushed to the side, that was her own fault for putting her shoes on. On a more important note, I want everyone reading this to know that my mother has been going to this family for 20 years and myself for over 10 years to have our nails done. And they must be doing something right if I booked them for my wedding! My mom & i were in there today and they did an absolutely beautiful job on my new full set, my moms fill and both of our pedicures. In fact I went to Safeway and somehow I had kncked off all my rhinestones on one foot so I went back to the salon and Brenda was kind enough to repair my mistake free of charge! I'm usually not one for reviews, but today I found my exception. I recently moved to the area and was hoping to find a good, quality nail salon to become a "regular". I got a dip manicure and had the nail technician miss steps that I had to point out to her while she was on a personal phone call the entire appointment. I was never asked what shape I would like my nails cut (they WERE long and almond shaped), and maybe I should have spoken up, but I figured they would ask at the end to shape them (which I have had done before) but nope. I did ask for them to be cut, but now they are boxy and short. When she said "wash your hands" without even bothering to show me where to go, I was rudely bumped into (literally) by another technician, and was told to move to another location without an explanation or apology. By this point, I was done (and I have the patience of a saint, especially when I know someone is doing their job). I left with my nails looking subpar at best. I completely understand that people have bad days, or maybe they were rushed. But I felt like the technicians had no pride in their job or wanted to even attempt to do a good job. Their customer service was so disheartening. If I acted like that at my job, I would have been let go a long time ago. Oh, and all of this for $50? I'll gladly drive up to the city for a more affordable, higher quality manicure, and by someone who takes pride in their work. read more

The worst pedicure experience I have ever had. People talking for 15 minutes while I sat their waiting for them to start, while the main lady kept telling them to help me but they kept talking and joking instead. (I should have left then.) The spa pedicure included several massages but at times the guy would use the cold and wet, used towels to wipe the lotion off. At one point he ran out of lotion and was massaging my feet with plastic gloves on that were rubbing my feet raw because they were dry rubber on my skin. I had to ask him to please use lotion because it hurt. When he cut my toe nail, I felt pain and realized he cut the nail down on one side of my big toe ... to the bottom. So on one side of my nail there is a thin line of no nail left where it meets my skin. So when that grows back it's going to kill and make an ingrown toenail. It hurt and I asked him to stop and then he didn't even cut the other big toe. For the last half hour, the ladies had another lady on speaker phone and they all talked full volume to each other as though no one else was there. It is clear the staff does not care about customers and the man who worked on me should not be cutting toe nails. It did not feel like he was trained. There are much better places in town. I highly suggest avoiding this place. read more
