SERVICE: Jo Jo is friendly and pays attention to detail. A regular manicure is $35 and takes about 25 min. A gel manicure is $40 (+$5 for French tip) and takes about 35 min. JJ Nails is my go-to spot for gel manis & pedis! Compared to other salons in the area, JJ provides excellent service for a reasonable price. The manis & pedis come with a complimentary paraffin wax treatment that other places tend to charge for. My gel pedis can last up to 2 months which is great for summer sandal times. For manis, I usually pop in to get them done before a special event and it's pretty easy to call and get a last minute appointment. They have a large selection of colors to choose from. Note that this is in DTSM so parking is a little hard. I recommend parking at Central Garage. Payment can be done via Venmo & Zelle along with other traditional transaction processes. This place needs more then 5 stars! I have a been to a majority of nail places and JJ does a fantastic job. Not only are they super sweet and kind but amazing at what they do. Came here for a mani/pedi and service was quick and professional. Pedi came with a short hot stone massage and a treatment for your feet to help remove dead skin. My gel mani was quick and after two weeks still hasn't chipped! Prices are affordable, believe it was around $75 for my gel mani + pedi. My only gripe with this place is they had a ton of appointments that seemed very close together so I felt a bit rushed to get in and out. Otherwise the quality is good and I'd go back to get another mani. read more

Went here for the first time as a walk in. She was able to accommodate me which was nice but 1. The dip nail color I chose was not the nail color I got. They are very different and the one I ended up with is very see-through and looks like powder is under my nails 2. 7 days later and 3 of my nails have cracked in half and come off I will not be a returning customer read more

Very quiet space so it made the experience very calming! I made an appointment for 10:00am, and I had arrived at 10:05 however the building was closed. The owner arrived just a little bit after me. Acrylic fill with two broken nails took about an hour, there was no one else in the first 45 minutes. Total was $50 + tip, which I thought was a bit much considering I get full sets for $50. Called the day before to schedule an appointment. Came to my appointment on time. Only one worker. She was finishing up with a client before doing my gel mani and regular pedi. Chair and foot soak were clean. I noticed on my pedi she missed a spot and she was quick to correct me and say that she'll fix it. When she did my gel mani, i noticed the supply box she's using had nail shavings. She did soak my hand and clean them. She did not have a lamp on when she did my gel mani. I left it all to her. I come home and noticed later that night that she missed a spot on my right big toe. Then 6 days later my gel mani started peeling. I tipped her well since she took me in last minute on my birthday. my go-to spot for pedi's now! I love how quick and efficient they are. they take both walk-in's and appts, but I would call for an appt, just to be sure. they do get busy right before the weekend. I like to get gel with my pedi since I'm pretty active. It's an extra $10, but worth it to me. The pedi's here include a paraffin wax, hot stone massage, and hot towel wrap. And they don't charge extras for that. It's all included in a regular pedi! Oh, and the massage chairs work here, which is nice. read more

Stopped in as a walk in for a pedicure yesterday. There was already a customer having her nails done so I was told if I came back in 45 mins I could get my pedicure done. I came back and right on time we got started. I can be a little indecisive when it comes to colors and I picked out a color that didn't go great with my skin tone. The patience and suggestions for the perfect color for me and springtime showed such great customer service. I loved the decor and cleanliness of the shop as well. I love coming to JJ nails! Every time I get my manicure or pedicure done, it never fails to amaze me how good my nails come out! I will walk in having an idea of how I want my nails to come out & they always come out great! That happened after about 2 weeks each time the other place did my nails and they would chip (big chips) at the corners of my nails. It was very very very hard for me to leave my last nail salon after getting acquainted/being a regular for the last 2 years, but after that salon's quality went down, I decided to search for a new place. This was pretty nervewracking for me, especially since there are SO many nail salons in the Peninsula (esp San Mateo) and I was thinking it would take me forever to find a quality one. I went to see Jojo for the first time and... WOW. It looks like I found my new regular place!!! Jojo just opened up her salon about 6 months ago, and I'm pretty hesitant about submitting this review because exposing her means that it'll be hard to get an appointment with her again when more people find out about her ;) (jk, she deserves all the business!). My first appointment was a couple of weeks ago and I got both a manicure and pedicure. She was the only one working that day so she did both--IT WAS QUALITY! Not only was the service was absolutely amazing, but let me also talk about some of the underlying qualities that I love about this place that meets my expectations as a customer: Timeliness: She set my appointment for 4:15 PM, and lemme tell you, I was sat with the water running for my pedicure right on the dot. She was finishing up with another customer when I came in, but she made sure to get me started still. Her multitasking and anticipating for how her customers feel definitely shows. Honesty: I originally came in there for a gel manicure, but then I inquired to do dip nails because I was kind of curious to try... She asked to look at my nails and actually steered me away from doing it because of my strong nails/the repercussions of doing it (no, she was not trying to convince me due to time or because she didn't want to ok). I felt that it was very noble of her to talk me OUT of doing something unnecessary/spending more money. She was also very sure that gel would last a long time for me, and guess what? 3 weeks later and not a chip--aka her cuticle cutting and gel manicure procedure is top notch! Lastly, she is hardworking: Jojo is hardworking FOR SURE. She doesn't give you the small talk fluff (lol, unless you want it, I guess. Regardless, she is so nice!!), but she can ensure you'll leave being satisfied. Go ahead and show her some designs you might want from Pinterest, and she'll put in the effort to do an excellent/detailed job. My ONLY hope is that her quality and attention to detail doesn't go down as her business/customer size gets bigger! I'm excited to be a loyal regular from here on out! read more

I hate to leave such a low rating, but I gave this place several tries. I have to agree with others here--the results are not professional looking and do not last at all. The techs are also behind on current trends. First try (done by owner) - gel manicure. Lasted a week before lifting/chipping. Second try (owner) - dip powder. Lasted 8 days and people thought I had done my own nails. Third try (other tech) - chrome nails (Hailey Bieber). Lasted a week. Tech did not know which products to use, so I had peach looking nails with green tint. read more

Felt rushed. I got a pedicure and I feel like she didn't do a thorough job. I didn't even get a foot massage. She didn't clean my cuticles. My daughter had an appointment at 11 as well but I arrived a bit early. My daughter wanted to get coffee. The girl kept asking when my daughter will be back. It was 10:45. Her appointment was at 11. My manicure was ok. I got gel. This women didn't want to Leave my nails in the light long enough so they were sticking. She did a great job on the design. JJ nails has recently opened, I love them so much. The lovely lady who does my acrylics always takes her time and I am IN LOVE with how they turn out every time. Though, the nails fall and snap kind of easy within a month, it's still a good price and reasonable. I really recommend this place. It's just downtown in San Mateo. They accept walk-ins and appointments. I usually do appointments because since there's only two people working there, they can be prepared. But totally recommend. Small shop but clean and neat. Currently just two nail techs so it will feel like a nice, quiet time if that is what you prefer. I appreciated how they ask if you're happy with the color before they keep going and I was pleasantly surprised at how quick it was but still neatly done. There are plenty of color options and I think they offer dip as well. I got a gel manicure. The only reason I have to dock a star is because I got a design with tiny rhinestones. The stones weren't sealed but guesses maybe it was because it makes your gel extra thick. Within the first couple days they were coming off already. Late post but I took my daughter in for a full set - it wasn't very busy so Jojo convinced me to get a manicure which I normally don't get because they've never lasted more than a day or two before they are chipped - Jojo suggested I try a gel manicure which I did and - i didn't have high expectations and was certain they would chip shortly after ... well I was wrong!
