I had a terrific evening here. Galaxy has a nice ambiance, great food and friendly, professional and very attentive waiters. I had the chop chop salad, which was amazing, a salmon cake (on the "Specials"for the evening) with dill sauce, which was also amazing and a very tasty Manhattan type cocktail. This place exceeded my expectations in both service and food. We were desperate to find a delicious place that had TVs available for college football. They reserved us a table in the bar area straight in front of the TV! We had some appetizers and beer (Ommegang three philosophers on tap!!) and then orders our entrees. All of the food was spot on. I've only been here once, and only to the bar, but was impressed with the decor, cocktail list and menu. My partner and I each had a drink and they were both great. We shared some deviled eggs which was also a real treat. My only criticism is that there was no background music. It's one of those things that isn't always obvious when it is on, but is completely noticeable when it is missing. I recommend anyone go here, sit at the bar, order a Smoke Nebula (or one of the many fine brews on tap) and also the deviled short rib app. Then get another app. And another. Also, the deviled eggs change constantly, and are almost always worth eating. Especially for the price. I rarely order an entree, but if there's something that looks extra-good I will. Tonight it was poblano marinated chicken breast with polenta, corn salsa and spinach. It was a terrific dish and the chicken was grilled to a super-tender perfection. But, more often than not, I order an app, see how I'm feeling, order another.... etc. And this place is perfect for that kind of dining at the bar. Either alone or with friends. A place that has lots of small plates to snack on is my happy place. Really love this place. You can tell they've put thought into the theme and decor. As written by some other reviewers, I'd definitely recommend ordering the apps (the mushroom app is my fave). They are priced right, fresh, and creative. And even though I'm not a cocktail drinker, I find myself usually starting with one of their specialty cocktails. I have been here quite a few times and have found that the experience is typically inconsistent. First I will delve into the things that make this currently trendy Easthampton spot work ( For me anyways) and what doesn't. Walking into Galaxy you are immediately suspicious that you have entered through a time portal and into the exciting world of Don Draper and pals from Madmen. It is divided into two sections. A restaurant side and a Bar side, I admit that I have NEVER in the five times I've visited eaten in the restaurant side as it pales in comparison to the shear swankiness of the bar side. Brown wooded panels make up the walls which are adorned with 60's starburst clocks and other vintage looking paraphernalia. Fun, relaxed seating arrangements and a nicely stocked bar await you. The restaurant side is in my opinion boring, a lackluster (space time adventure-ish?) theme that doesn't really work and is too bright for my senses. The drinks are pretty reasonable, however the only drinks I order are beer or a gin and tonic, so maybe more esteemed drinkers will find their drink of choice to costly. Now for the bad. Food prices are insane, especially for the quantity. When it comes to food Galaxy is sadly "That Place" that charges $15 for a sprig of lettuce and a spoonful of grits with tomato sauce. It's menu reeks of privilege and a desperate attempt to be exclusive and cool. After paying a huge amount with nothing to show for it on my first visit with some friends, I no longer use Galaxy as a place for food. The only other thing I can critique is the service. Service is a gamble, if you get certain people you are golden. They are nice and friendly and make the experience great! However some of the staff needs to come down off their ivory tower with the rest of us cretins and pull that famed stick out of their fanny. They really bring down the relaxed and fun atmosphere with their death glares and eye rolling. Fortunately that is only about two of the staff, the rest are fun and engaging! So all in all Galaxy is a fun little place, a funky trip back to a James Bond movie where you can grab a drink and relax with pals. The food may be overpriced and some of the staff needs to retake Attitude 101 but I really do enjoy it here. I wish them lots of success and hope to be able to visit for many more years to come. I am only giving it three star because of the staff, some nights you will leave Galaxy feeling like Jon Hamm while the next time you visit your treated like you are a hobo off the streets. read more

Wife and I stopped in here last week after stopping at Dominoes around the corner and eating dinner (Alfredo bread bowl and extravaganZZZa pizza) in the car. She had been planning "dinner and drinks date night" for weeks so we were excited. After a brief stroll around the corner we entered Galaxy. We headed to the bar and both loved the decor. It totally looked like my grandparents basement from when I was a kid. All they need is a mirrored wall. We sat at a small table in the corner and checked out the drink menu. I'm an at home mixologist so when I saw the menu I was pumped. So many choices. Totally cutting edge. This place clearly has the best mixologist probably on the east coast working here. There menu was really top shelf. I ordered the cucumber Cosmo and the wife had a mudslide. My Cosmo was really well balanced. Plenty of sugar to balance the creaminess of the cucumber and the sauciness of the gin. It was awesome and not too girly. My wife's frozen mudslide was not. There was waaaaay to much Hershey's syrup in it. I like my mudslide chocolaty but this was crazy. Of course my wife thought it was the best cocktail ever but she also thinks jimmy buffet margarita mix is the perfect summer morning drink. She's a boozbag that can't tell the difference between Dominoes Alfredo sauce and Mulinos in Northampton. Everyone in the valley, foodies and unfoodies, knows Mulinos does the best Alfredo. For desert I had the root beer float and she had the Neapolitan Napoleon. Can't really mess up a float. You just dump some ice cream in a soda. Mission accomplished there. The Napoleon was top notch. Really fluffy and crazy sweet cake layered with chocolate and strawberry whip cream garnished with house made chocolate covered strawberries. Totally European. I couldn't believe I was eating this in easthampton!! It was probably the best desert I've EVER had and I've been to France. I had eclair there and scones and this was the best desert ive ever had. I don't really understand some of the lukewarm reviews for Galaxy. We ate there last night and are anxious to return. Our server was very cute and sweet. We had a couple of small plates. The ubiquitous brussels sprouts were excellent and the flatbread pizza was nice. I had a chop salad and my partner had excellent scallops. The dessert was better than many restaurants. I was sorry I had to share! And kudos most to the HOT coffee. Being served warm coffee just aggravates me, so Galaxy, keep your coffee hot hot hot! I had a house drink and it was delish. We had a reservation for 8:00 on a Saturday night, and we were surprised to see that the restaurant was nearly empty... We ordered a bottle of wine for the table. The waitress informed us that they had run out of that wine, and instead of just giving alternate recommendations she brought us tastes of 2 different wines she thought we might like... which was thoughtful and we appreciated it The waitress said that the "small plates" were appetizer size and the "medium plates" were like an entree. However, as a party of 4, we decided to go the tapas route and share many different plates, which was fun. Standouts: the brussel sprouts (convinced one of us that brussel sprouts really are edible... and delicious!), the mushroom appetizer, and the 2 specials we ordered: a codcake small plate and a swordfish kebab mediu plate The food was delicious, the waitress was attentive, and we had a lovely night! Galaxy is a great and unique stop for a meal or a couple of drinks. The bar staff were welcoming and friendly, and our meal was quite delicious. We also love the atmosphere which is quite different from the norm. The dishes are different and some combinations daring. All the ingredients were fresh tasting and service was outstanding (I've eaten at the bar both times I've been there). During our recent meal we ordered a large variety of food from their small plates selections. All were unique and fresh tasting. I especially enjoyed the risotto balls. Galaxy has delicious cocktails but they won't please your Miller Lite drinking crowd. I recommend the hibiscus margarita. Went on a Friday night and it was busy, but we got a table. Indulged in the scallops and braised rib. Both had very nice flavor and the presentation was beautiful; however, the portions were on the small side for the price. The meal did the job though. Wildly unimpressed. We walked in on a packed Saturday night, which is understandable for Easthampton eateries. We hung around the bar until spots opened up which fortunately happened very quickly. Unfortunately, we were met by an incredibly rude bartender. He probably thought he was hilarious but his sarcastic/crude behavior left much to be desired. In addition to which we asked his opinion on several drinks and he was less than forthcoming with responses. My apologies if I'm wrong but isn't the role of a bartender to tend to you at the bar which should include answering questions? My dining companions and I each ordered an app and an entrée. We had already been advised by friends of ours that portions were small and appetizers were difficult to share. I started with the soup special and had the roasted veggie quesadilla with chicken. The soup, while a larger than expected portion, was bland and forgettable. The quesadilla on the other hand was minuscule and the salsa served with it proved to be less than impressive. The guac was just ok. Prices also don't seem to match what is being served. $17 for a chicken quesadilla seems rather excessive when the finished product is so poorly executed. I will say the drinks we ordered were good and I thoroughly enjoyed expanding my horizons on that front. However based on this experience with the poor service and the meager portions I cannot see myself returning. read more

Ate here last night with a pal from Brooklyn. I had scallops over butternut squash risotto and kale. The kale was probably one of the best tasting kale side dishes that I've ever had. Not sure how it was prepared but it was yummy. My dates each had hangar steak that was perfectly cooked. We had a number of appetizers including: dumplings, risotto balls, french fries and chop chop salad. This is probably the third or fourth time I've been here and I think it was the best! We went to Galaxy after an alcohol-free, high school reunion dinner in Easthampton. We were excited to spend time with old friends and have many drinks and they could not have been more accommodating to our large group. They sat us all in their super-cool dining room, the white leather banquettes fit their mid century modern vibe perfectly. The wait-staff kept our drinks full and brought us many small plates of appetizers to share, definitely necessary after the terrible dinner we'd been subjected to at the reunion. The menu is great, grilled cheese, deviled eggs-yes please! Everyone in the bar was having a great time and there was even some late night dancing going on. A cool, funky place with great food and an attentive staff, we will definitely recommend it to others. Several reviewers suggested diners leave Galaxy to go over to the Cellar but that would be a huge mistake! We started the night at The Cellar, another local bar, but were refused service for reasons that were not explained to us. After 30 years working in the customer service industry, I can honestly say I have never encountered a business that would actively discourage customers from visiting their establishment. Who says "NO" to money??? I watched one man who was sitting at the bar go over to the waitress as we tried to order from her and whisper in her ear not to serve us drinks. I really don't understand the negative reviews. The food is outstanding, beautifully presented and delicious. They also utilize local farms and pick fresh herbs from their own garden! My kinda place!It is pricey but that is the style of the restaurant. It is upscale, so if you are expecting Ruby Tuesdays, go to Ruby Tuesdays. I've had just about all of the appetizers on the menu and none of them disappoint. The sweet potato fritters taste like breakfast and the crab cakes melt in your mouth. Did I mention they have their own pastry chef who makes fresh desserts daily? The chocolate lava cake is unreal. Drinks have always been good with a decent selection and they make their own simple syrups! They definitely take the time and care to present a nice meal with great flavor combinations and weekly specials. If you happen to go to the bar, look for Krystle, she's a great bartender and makes the best drinks! After hearing good things about Galaxy I was excited to check this place out. Now that I've gone, I'm not sure if I will be returning. I went on a weekday right after they opened for the day. We sat on the restaurant side, not the bar side. The decor is very white and square. There were little pops of color here and there but overall it just looked very cold and uninviting. The host and our server were great- very outgoing, good at conversation, asked us questions at the right times. We ordered the Lobster Pot Pie, Asparagus, braised mushrooms, beef tips and the coconut cream dessert(I forgot the exact name). All were very good. The Lobster Pot Pie was listed on the menu as a "Medium Plate" and priced as if it was a medium plate but it was smaller in size than our small plates. That was disappointing. One of the other dishes on the menu stated that it came with sweet potato fries but it wasn't listed in the Sides area of the menu. When we asked our server if it was possible to get them as a side she told us we couldn't because they are already portioned out ... I don't understand why they can't be a separate side then. When we were there the restaurant only had two other couples at the tables but it was so loud that my date and I literally had to wait until other people stopped talking so we could hear each other. If the decor wasn't so hard and square I think the acoustics would be much better in this place. I would hate to be here later at night or on a weekend when it's full if that was the noise level of 6 people. I was so excited to find a new spot to eat in Easthampton. Galaxy was very disappointing. The menu was not well thought out or balanced. A good portion of the dishes were cooked in a fryer and were very rich and heavy. Who thinks to put duck confit with Camembert and then fry it! Yuck! I ordered the sweet potato hash and got fried potatoes with a few small pieces of pepper sprinkled in. The risotto balls were fine, but uninteresting. We loved the enthusiasm and were excited for a new Easthampton joint, but were disappointed. I love the small plate theme, but our 6 dishes lacked passion and originality. The upshot was small plates for their own sake--recipes and ingredients played second fiddle. The polenta/short ribs and the brussels didn't have much flavor going on. Our best dish was a special: a pablano pepper/goat cheese enchilada that was great. We dropped $40 bucks with no drinks and left hungry as well. We will try again. We went with a group of twelve people for dinner and had a great time. The staff were nice, the beer was good, and the food was great and fun. Any front-end issues they might have had before are gone now. Very retro interior and retro-inspired dishes. I had never had a pineapple ring as part of dessert before, and it was tasty! The beef short rib had tremendous flavor. The dish wasn't huge, but it didn't need to be. The theme seems to ring throughout most reviews for Galaxy. It has potential to be a cool place, but there are definitely holes. My biggest problem with the place is the service. We were a group of four girls, and honestly all four of us felt like we weren't "retro" or "vintage" enough to get even a smile from our waitress. Both times I've gone there, the service has been crap. Having said that, I appreciate a place that dares to put Deviled Eggs on the menu, and they probably have the best outdoor seating in all of Easthampton, complete with mood lights and a fire pit in the back. read more
