Came to El Comalito after visiting Hampshire College and was very excited to see they have pupusas. Ordered the Al Pastor Sopes and Pupusas Revueltas and I really enjoyed both. The Sopes were nice and crispy, the Al Pastor was amazing, the spicy sauce was amazing, the pupusas tasted so good and the curtido morado was my favorite part. The staff were really nice and helpful and the place was very cute and cozy inside! Don't believe the wack ass white people hating on this place who say they're experts on tacos or pupusas cause they don't know jack. Would recommend it to anybody close or far! Food was great! Service terrible. Great enchiladas and burritos. Ordered 1 margarita when we ordered our dinners and it never came. Asked the waitresses and it still did not come. Asked another waitress after our food came. Finished our meal and said we no longer wanted it but would like dessert. Another woman came maybe a manager, and said it was ready would we like it to go? Went for the first time. Started is with the tortilla chips and salsa. Both were very good. Carne asada enchiladas were very very good. The pupusa was very tasty. Took a friend out for lunch - she said her pulled chicken enchiladas were good (and even took her leftovers home), however... My pork carnitas tacos may have been the worst I've ever had, and I have eaten a *lot* of tacos. Tough, gray chunks of (what I suspected to be) microwaved meat, no seasoning or flavor at all, with huge white fatty chunks throughout. Very very poor quality meat. I tried a bite just to be sure, and almost gagged. That bad. I'm sure they have some decent food, but I will not be returning. read more

We've driven past probably a thousand times. Each time saying "we need to go there." Well we finally did and it was excellent! We were a larger party (7) but they had no problem putting a table together for us quickly. Service was prompt and pleasant. The menu is extensive. I love the mix of Mexican and Salvadoran food! Drinks were delightful and we had a solid mix of them at the table. Hubs ordered a chicken bacon ranch burrito and when it came out, the size rivaled a small human. Couldn't believe how big it was! He said it was everything he hoped it would be which is high praise from him. I went a bit more traditional with chicken enchiladas covered in the Chipotle hot sauce. I can confirm it was hot but absolutely delicious and not over powering. I ordered a side of the green hot sauce listed on the menu as their hottest. It came out warmed up which I wasn't expecting. It also was delicious! Again not over powering heat but incredible flavor. I wish I could make hot sauce like this! I took my extra sauce home and can't wait to put it on everything. Enchiladas themselves were spot on. 10/10 would order again. I did try the hot sauce that comes with the birria tacos that a friend of ours ordered. To me, THAT was the hottest sauce of all. The food is authentic and great. This place has so much potential. The lighting is so harsh. If they would simply dim the lights, maybe add candles to the tables, it would be a whole different vibe. When they first opened, this location was OK, but now they are literally serving empanadas that are 1 1/2 tablespoons of filling and about 2 inches long and they are charging almost $4 per empanada. The flavors inside of the empanada are not as good as it as they used to be and you can't even appreciate them because of the tiny amount and the ratio of dough to filling. Easthampton previously had one very mediocre Mexican restaurant in town. That is now gone and several new places are opening, this Salvadoran/Mexican restaurant being the first. I honestly don't need another. Yes, the first week had some service growing pains. When a new restaurant opens in Easthampton, it gets swarmed. Mistakes were made and service was very slow. But they recognized this and temporarily reduced their hours until they could handle the crowds. Our trip back tonight was a terrific experience all around. When we arrived, there were no tables so they seated us at the bar and let us order while we waited for a table. The bartender took our orders and made us some fantastic mojitos. We would have been fine staying at the bar but we went to a table when one opened up. Service was prompt and accurate. Having eaten at their Amherst location before, the food is exactly what I was expecting which is all delicious. The only reason we didn't go to that location more often was the location; it just wasn't super convenient for us here in Easthampton. But now they are so close and I expect we'll be eating there or stopping in for a drink at the bar way more often. Welcome to Easthampton! read more

The absolute best papusa , tacos and burritos in the area. The food never disappoints. Dining in is spacious and service is always great. Take out is efficient and then you can go home and loosen your pants to eat more. (You do that too, right?) Whether dining in or taking it to indulge at home the staff is incredibly polite and welcoming. If you haven't tried El Comalito yet, you should. I can assure you that you'll enjoy it. Not sure where these great reviews are coming from-- went last night (a Saturday) and the service issues were absolutely horrific. They haven't been open very long, granted. But this was worse than just "we haven't been open very long" kinks. We were told there would be a 45 minute wait, so I went to get a margarita at the bar. Waited 30 minutes to get that margarita even though it wasn't packed in that section because the bartender makes one drink at a time, as the person orders it, then rings up a ticket, takes the payment, runs card/makes change, then moves on to the next person. Zero training. All made worse because he shoots the shit with the seated bar patrons while everyone else is standing around waiting. When I did finally get it, it was undrinkable--a glass of diabetes. Worst marg I've had in a long time. We finally were seated (the hostess was lovely). No one came around for 15 minutes, even though other tables were getting service. Finally flagged someone down who took our order. Chips and salsa came and we were told the guacamole would be coming in a few. Then we waited. And waited. Flagged our waiter down again (he never checked on us and never brought the guacamole), and he explained that our table was actually covered by the bartender. The same inefficient crap bartender that served me the sugar rush margarita. Great. Oh and no guacamole would be coming he said. A bus boy brought our food and we never saw another server after that. Had to wave someone down for the check. The food came and it was just okay. Rice and beans flavorless. Good pico de Gallo. A stellar pork tamale. I got the Salvadoran chicken plate which was decent. Came with what looked like commercial tortillas, a bit disappointing. Husband got cheese enchiladas, nothing to write home about. The salsas were fine. If they fixed the service issues I might go back. But it was a horrible experience. A bunch of other tables complained to the hostess as well, we noticed. read more

I had been to orig location in amherst so was a little familiar with the food - they seem to have a bunch of new stuff on menu but i just got a chicken burrito...they seem to have left out the guac i paid extra for, either that or it was just a very tiny amount? Also,they put hot sauce on side in a little plastic container which is kinda a thing for me, maybe it is for a reason but i like having it inside. I am kinda comparing to the other 2 well known places to get a burrito around here(not the chains),this one fell a bit short but was pretty good...maybe the specialty items on menu are more 'wow',they would have to be for me to go back a 3rd time. read more

I like to go to a place when they first open and all is chaos. BUT, El Comalito has it together right out of the shoot. They are well staffed and well prepared for the onslaught of hunger natives looking for good Mexican food and they deliver. Reasonable prices and a nice atmosphere. The food is well executed if simple and basic. Another review complained of loud music but it was not the case tonight when I went for dinner. Just a lot of nice people serving good food. Carnitas tacos featured large chucks of tender port, not to salty and simply dressed with cilantro and onion. A side of tomatillo salsa to top. Corn chips were warm, crisp and fresh. We were pleasantly surprised at how great the food and service were at El Comalito. The service was quick and friendly, and from the kitchen to the waitstaff, you get a feeling that these are family members who are enjoying themselves - which already makes for a good experience. The drinks were exceptional (pina colada was crazy good!). The menu was refreshing as it wasn't the same cookie-cutter Mexican food, there was plenty of variety and interesting new dishes to try, that we'll explore on the next visit. The Mole sauce was perfect as well, not burnt, not too sweet - perfect. Pricing was good, not super cheap, but the food reflected that in its quality. Also not expensive as I don't recall anything on the menu over $16. Give this place a try, they seem to be working really hard to bring a good product and are super nice people. read more

My wife and I tried this place out on their opening night. The food was very good and the waitstaff were friendly and attentive. My wife got the Chicken tinga burrito, and I ordered the chicken enchiladas with ranchero sauce. We were quite happy with both the quality of the food as well as portion size. Prices were also very reasonable. My one critique is that it was a little bit loud in the dining area. The music was turned up a bit too high, and the noise coming from other tables was a little intense. All in all, a really good experience and I will be back! read more

There are times I wish I did not like this place so much. Like one time when I went to San Miguel Mexico and I ate at a place that had the sounds and background you would imagine but not my Tinga burrito. Don't get me wrong, it's amazing and there was this one Salvadoran place that would give El Comalito a run for it's money but I did deeply wish for the food here when I was there a few times. It's a family owned place that really takes pride in there work. We live within easy walking distance of downtown Easthampton, with all of its excellent dining options, and we still pile in the car to come here sometimes. They opened within the past year and had issues with service at first (they got swamped), so you should overlook some of the negative early reviews along those lines. Extremely friendly staff, the food was cooked to perfection and I love their margaritas. Especially on mondays and Tuesdays when its $6 a drink. We've loved this place since it was a tiny establishment behind a gas station in Amherst. Saw them become a large restaurant and now a second location close to home... that's just icing on the cake! ALL their food is delicious and truly authentic. Their pupusas are worth the wait - these yummies are labor intensive and boy do their deliver.
