I've always enjoyed eating at this restaurant. The food is fresh and top quality every time. The vibe is cool. The staff are professional. The service is always right on. My favorite dish is the grilled salmon with purple sticky rice and mango salsa. Appetizers: brussels sprouts, risotto balls and bruschetta are musts every time. Dessert: creme brûlée, which we sometimes get to go. It's nice that it's right in Easthampton and has plenty of parking. They have outdoor seating in the front and back. There is also a private room for gatherings. The decor is 1960's chic. The bar side is my favorite; its cozy on a winter evening. There is a nice group of locals there. This place is fabulous and I can't understand the bad reviews. My husband and I went for dinner on Saturday night and sat in the bar. Our server, Michael, was knowledgeable and very pleasant. We started with the fried Brussels sprouts with a delicious aioli on the side and the mushroom polenta. Both were delicious and nothing was left on the plates. For dinner I had the pistachio encrusted salmon, which used to be on the menu at the Apollo Grill, and it is fabulous! Michael asked me how I wanted my salmon cooked, which is sooooo appreciated because there is nothing worse than overcooked salmon and I ordered it medium rare. My husband had the filet, medium rare. 9:15 on Tuesday night. The scowling bartender pours beers, and needs to be asked to top off the one which ends an inch from the rim. She asks if I want to close my tab. She walks away to a computer behind the bar, and then, after, right past me, to the back of the place. She does this without a "it'll just be a minute" or anything similar -- just leaves me standing there. Horrible, rude, inattentive first impression. read more

Bartender that served us was nice but kept chatting with a couple next to us that she was clearly friends with. So we waited and waited for her to finally finish talking and take our order. Our dinner was wonderful! We started with delicious pork dumplings that came with slaw that had a nice little bite to it. We also shared a beet salad with chopped pistachios and feta that was very well put together. One of us had chicken piccata that came with garlic spinach and polenta and the other had shrimp and grits small plate that also had delicious slices of andouille sausage. We thought most of the prices were fare. Small plates are $7 and $8. My shrimp and grits for $8 was a very filling amount of food. Conversely, the chicken piccata entree for $17 was not any more food than my small plate, but it was excellent. Quality is more important. We shared a warm chocolate cake with mascarpone cheese and cherries on the side and it was terrific. I'm sorry some of the previous diners had disappointing waitstaff because our waitress was very friendly, helpful and cared enough to ask how our food was every time she brought out a new plate. Galaxy's decor is charming. Background music varied from annoying, loud rock to vocal standards that were more appropriate for the atmosphere. REALLY, really liked this place. Galaxy leaves many other restaurants far, far away... The decor is very mid century modern and right up my alley! However, and more importantly, the food was perfectly prepared and the menu was different and probably could be termed unique. They had grilled cheese and deviled eggs as appetizers. We had both and were happy we ordered them. They had more traditional entrees (with a twist of course) for our main courses. I had some really nice scallops for my main meal and my sister and brother in law had some lamb. We all sampled each other's meals and we were all very satisfied. The Galaxy is different ...and different is good. I would have more expected to find Galaxy in Northampton. I hear they switch up the menu seasonally and that's great. If I lived in Easthampton I would be here very often. It gets pretty busy on the weekends here and we had to eat at the bar. If they take reservations I would make some. Maybe one complaint was the bar was a little dark. On the other hand Jessica was a treat as a bartender and made some super good drinks. My Old Fashioned's were rocking and would kick a mule's a$$. Can't say enough about this place. My wife and I went here early one Sunday evening, ravenous and relaxed after going to the massage school. We sat at the bar and ordered a non stop barrage of small plates and several fancy cocktails. The bartender gave excellent recommendations and the service could have not been any better. Every creative plate was prepared beautifully, wonderfully seasoned, generous portion sizes for the money and fresh ingredients. The portions were what I would call large tapas sizes. Enough to share, but small enough that you can really try many things and not feel miserably stuffed if you try to finish them all. I lived briefly in Charleston South Carolina and the local dish is Shrimp and Grits. Galaxy's version may be the best I have ever had! Three weeks later I returned with a friend. We sat at a table in the bar. We ordered drinks I had two small plates as she had already eaten. The waitress was hilarious and so wonderful. Again, food prepared beautifully, seasoned well and good portions for the money. read more

Okay, positives first y'all, the beer list is close to perfect (unless you want PBR) and the food is good if not a tad expensive. One wouldn't make eye contact with me which was sad. In general it was a positive experience, but the flow could be better and the hipster level could come down a solid 3 notches (scientifically) to make it better. I'm excited for a new, up market option in Easthampton. Come for the bar, stay for the creative and tasty small plates. The bar area is fantastic--it makes me feel like I'm hanging out in Dick Van Dyke's living room. The cocktail list is fun, and the bartenders are friendly. The white and yellow restaurant side burns the retinas a bit, but there's a cozy wood paneled back room if 2001 space odyssey isn't your thing. As for the food, I would say it is certainly a step up from Apollo, but not quite at the level of coco. However, the small plates are creative and well executed. This place would be better for a group than coco, and is a little more laid back. Call ahead on busy nights! read more

Pros: the food here is not only delicious, but is high quality. The fare here is served in small portions which is fantastic because I can never decide what I want- so I can order several dishes and get the perfect size sampling of what I want. The pork belly sliders make my belly smile. The poutine, frisée salad, and Mac and cheese are all very impressive. The brussel sprouts are great, but they don't give you enough Aoli and I always have to ask for more. I look forward to eating my way through the menu. Cons: While Galaxy does host an impressive cocktail menu- I wasn't overly impressed with them. The flavor combos seemed a bit overworked and overpowering. Food was good, but I will never make reservations there again. We reserved the back "private room" for a group of 8 professionals. 30 minutes into our nice private dinner, a group of 10 people with 6 children under 6 sat at the other "private room" table. Needless to say, that we could not hear ourselves think, let alone talk. When I asked to talk to the manager then the owner, I was told that they cannot control who reserves the room. I explained that a private room reservation on Saturday night should provide some context. He said that there was nothing he could do. They did not ask for the kids to quiet down (I had to), nor did they comp us anything. The food was good, but if I wanted to eat at chucky cheese, that is where I would have gone. The owner did not bat an eyelash when I told him that he should have at least warned us that the other party was children. Save your money and go somewhere that cares about their customers... This is from someone in town who has had good meals there before. Just bad customer service from ownership. We're long time customers and big fans of first the Apollo and now Galaxy. I look forward to each visit that we make. The beer list is always a tough decision for me when you have roughly a dozen great choices. Food - the menu seems to always have something that hits the spot. Unlike most menu's in the valley they change often. It's nice to see someone always adapting their menu to accommodate for seasonal changes . When its summer and the valley is producing veggies they take advantage of it and you're guaranteed fresh local choices. Service - exceptional in the one time we had an issue we voiced our concern and it was dealt with. They provide consistent excellent service with a sense of humor. Great Restaurant! This was the second time I have been to Galaxy and it was equally as enjoyable as my first visit. They have a great Tapas menu as well as a regular dinner menu. We sampled off the Tapas menu and had the Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese Salad, Wild Braised Mushrooms over Polenta, Shrimp and grits and Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert. I would recommend all of these!! The people on both side of us had the dumplings and they equally as pleased with that dish. We sat at the bar and the bartender was excellent . She was pleasant, helpful with drink recommendations and added to our wonderful dining experience. We will definitely be back! read more

Stumbled upon this place (doesn't even have a sign!) and are so glad we did! Started with a deliciously original herbal cocktail, and a great beer selection, too. We shared several small plates which is so fun. Pork belly sliders: cute, flavorful, crisp and warm with creamy avocado....elevated by tangy spicy slaw. Lobster pot pie: perfectly cooked lobster, great crust, well-spiced. Deviled eggs with candied bacon were good, could have been more vinegary for our palates. Smoked duck salad: I love duck, and the salad treated it well, super creamy farm cheese, spinach, a simple vinaigrette. We just had to order some fries with duck gravy and cheese curds... Entirely hit or miss, and mostly miss these days. And I'm sad about it because it is nearby and I really want it to be my favorite. Innovative menu, but really poor execution. Ordered caprese salad which was standard good. But no bread with it. When I asked, I was dismissed.. They didn't have bread. Ok .... Then it was short rib burger. Holy cow short rib! Ordered it medium. Came out dry at about medium well. Worse, added bacon and cheese. Paid the up charge. Seriously folks, no kidding, it was that thin supermarket precooked bacon. Gross. How on earth do you ever pair short rib (freshly ground maybe?) with that crap?? Shameful. No pride in the kitchen here. And the fries were in greasy side and way over salted. Yuck. Dessert menu still has that weird earl gray creme brûlée. Used to have a nice vanilla bean. They keep blaming they can't find dessert chef. Seriously? And then they rip you off with bar tab. 1/6 to 1/8 wine bottle pours into tiny carafe then into glass. Not looking for heavy hand but come on. Charging 8 bucks a glass on an 8.99 bottle retail. That's 600 to 800% markup. Of course they need to make a profit, but that is beyond a rip off. Of course, then there is the service. Some excellent waitresses work there, so take a table. But the bar staff?? Entirely rude and obnoxious. They don't make you feel welcome. Not even close. Hour before closing? Don't even bother. You aren't welcome there. Sad. Very very sad. Finally made it back to the PV to try this place as I'm always up for a restaurant/bar with some personality. I'd heard mixed reviews and the decor intrigued me. Plus, drinks and apps - a perfect kick off to the weekend. I couldn't make up my mind on a drink (wine, beer, cocktail, can be a tough decision on a Friday evening) and settled on wine. The bartender (Michael) suggested a sauv blanc and my friend got a Manhattan...rye and maple? (OMG, amazing) He only shared a sip - the SB was solid and I was kept happy by the recommended vino. We always try to pick a few apps off the menu and see what the staff has to say (you can tell a lot by staff enthusiasm or pause to respond), Michael raved about our choices. He did suggest the rabe, but once I heard a positive review of the Brussel sprouts, I was in...The citrus aioli on those fried BS was stellar (swoon) and when was the last time that you had truffle fries? Yup. (drool). We left feeling like we'd been coming for years (Norm!). It was clean, fun, decent menu, great drink choices and owned it's personality. Very helpful with the menu, which was smaller than I'm used to, but after he helped me picked out small plate items it was nothing but perfection moving forward. Small plates are KEY! It makes choosing what you want more decisive and straight to be point. Our favorites were the Thai Pork Dumplings, the Orecchiette Carbonara and Grilled Focaccia! I decided to try this place out with my girlfriend and I will definitely not be going back. First things I noticed was portions were very small. Not really enough for a full meal if you are hungry. My girlfriend has a sensitive stomach so it can be difficult eating out however her order was pretty simple. She ordered a salad with salmon and dressing on the side. Her salad came out and the waitress said: "we only have pistachio crusted salmon so we put that on your salad. Hope that's ok." My girlfriend hates pistachio so politely sent it back and asked for grilled chicken. The waitress rolled her eyes at us and took the salad back to the kitchen as I sit with my food in front of me getting cold. After about 10 minutes the waitress comes back with the salad and chicken on it but its covered in dressing. At this point my girlfriend asked to cancel her order as we prepare to go somewhere else. The waitress brings the check and sure enough I see the salad charged on our receipt. I remind the waitress that my girlfriend cancelled her salad and did not eat anything. The waitress again rolled her eyes and said: "oh yeah...oops. I forgot." I understand that people make mistakes and that it can be hard dealing with customers with food sensitivity but the main reason I am writing this review is the waitresses condescending and negative attitude and trying to charge us for something we didn't even want and told her to cancel was going to far. read more

Went for the first time last night after hearing nothing but good things from friends. The service was good, wait staff were attentive and helpful, but the food was very expensive for what we received. Our two medium rare steaks were much closer to raw than medium rare, and our pork was overcooked. Went here with a friend about a month or so ago. I was unpleasantly surprised by the not-so-great food, especially for how overpriced it was. We had the risotto balls, which were ok but nothing special and definitely not worth $8 for four tiny rice balls. We also tried the lobster roll, which was good, very good lobster salad on a cornbread bun, but it was so tiny it seemed hard to justify paying $16 for it. We sat outside on a nice day and the atmosphere was lovely but the food and prices were disappointing and I don't think I'll be back. read more

I love this place so much I got an outfit that I only wear to it. It's a cowboy shirt with rockets on it where you would usually see horses. Anyway the place is very retro and sci fi ish and the food and drinks are always fancy and greatly varied so I can't say anything other than the place is like a fusion American Bistro.
