The Atmosphere: What can I say is that G-Bar is a sleek elegant, Manhattan-like bar/lounge/restaurant all in one situated in the Bronx! Walking in for the first time not knowing a spot like this exists in the Bronx had me examining the place and nodding saying "This is nice....real nice....." in approval. Gbar has a nice grown mature, diverse crowd from what I've seen being here on a Tuesday night. There were folks drinking at the bar and eating. There were people sitting at tables drinking. There were people just dining. Some were locals just hanging out at the bar looking at the big screen. When entering, this place has two levels and upstairs with tables. The front area is more of the bar lounge area with the main bar, and when you walk more towards the back; its more of a spacious dining room area with tables with another bar. The Food: I ordered one of the pasta dishes a Linguine w/ Shrimp, Arugula, in a Zesty Lemon sauce. The pasta dish is a huge portion that can feed two people if you're into sharing a meal. There was a high visual off shrimp strategically placed in my pasta, which I really appreciated. There is nothing worse than ordering a shrimp meal and getting few gumdrops of shrimp. The pasta dish was decent, it wasn't the best. There was a lack of lemon sauce in to even get it my pasta a good twirl on my fork. The pasta needed some serious lubrication, it was horribly dry. I was debating in tracking down our waitress and asking for a side of Alfredo sauce. The shrimp and the arugula complimented the dish well; all it really needed was some serious sauce lubrication. Also with pasta dishes I would expect my meal to come with bread and butter. I think I saw a gentleman receive a bread basket when eating at the bar with his pasta, I felt I got gypped, but I was already done with my meal to even request for any. Live Music: Came here on a Tuesday evening and there was a small band set up playing live instrumental beats of Latin and Jazz music. It was nice background music to have while you eating, chatting and drinking. There were even two girls dancing to the music and made their own dance floor. The average cocktail prices are $10. Wine are from $7-$10 They have a happy hour from 3pm - 6pm. Drinks for $6. read more

This place is as good as it gets for the Bronx. The borough where most of the population can not even afford to eat out . So they do what they can with the type of economy they are doing business at with the area they are in . With that being said the Brunch Buffet from this place is what you should go for because it is a boozey one. Other than that do not go for dinner. it is over priced and the service is not worth the money. The last time i went to dinner at this joint my waitress had on tights and was not wearing a dress or long shirt to cover herself properly. let just say that i got to see the cottage cheese on her thighs and noticed that the chick had no under wear on. i could not believe that the manager let her walk around the place like that. it looked gross. if you work at a food service establishment the least you can do is dress appropriate so as to not inspire disgust from the patrons. When I gave her specific directions on how to order my meal she took it upon herself to not listen to me and order something else from the menu she thought i wanted. I come here quite often because I've worked in the area for the last 4 years. G-Bar is cool. Sunday brunch is great, unlimited mimosas and lots of options of the buffet. I generally am not a fan of buffets, but the dishes were changed quite often, so nothing sat out for too long, looking all forlorn and picked-over. I've been for happy hour and for dinner as well. The drinks are strong. The buffalo wings are nice and crispy just the way I like them. Pizza, pasta and crab cakes are good too. Came here on a Saturday night and there was a great band playing. Get's 3 stars just because I don't know what the alternative would be in the South Bx. Joined some friends for drinks and appetizers on a Friday night. It was plenty busy and lively. But the drinks were super sweet and the apps were directly from the freezer section at Costco. That said, G-Bar isn't a BAD hang. Just stick with what you know (that would be vodka and cranberry for me) and leave the sweet drink menu to the boppers. Don't know about their entrees and I'm not sure I would be willing to try one. If you want to grab a quick drink in a lively atmosphere, you could do a lot worse than the G-Bar. read more

OMG! This place was the best! My birthday was yesterday and my 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters decided to go here from recommendations from a friend. It was a Monday night and the place was packed! We got a booth table, thanks to the manager. It was karaoke night and the joint was jumping! I had the best margarita ever! It was very strong and good! The food and drinks were Excellent! I We were entertained by a nice Gentleman that played the heck out of his harmonica, and he also played Happy Birthday to me!!! One of my daughters got up and sang. We had a ball! Came here on Father's day and I was so surprised that it was not crowded. We walked in and were immediately seated. Service was ok, honestly I don't remember. Food was good, we had the calamari which was really good and fresh. I had the chicken penne alla vodka which was great as well. read more

I've only been here twice and both times received awful service from the same waiter. He treats everyone the same he does not greet you, does not wipe the bar after customers leave, he does not bring menus to the table, he does take drink orders without you calling him over. Basically he sucks and so did the other server that was supposed to help him. We asked her to help us and she said she was "just trying to get out of there". Add to that flies big flies all over the place and crappy live music and you've got yourself the worst happy hour dump in the Bronx. You'd be better off ordering take out from the pizza shop next door that owns this place, get a bottle of wine and put your feet up at home. Skip this place. read more

I've been a long time loyal customers of Giovanni's pizza on the Grand-concourse near 149 street in the Bronx, for years and never felt the need to post a review based on a negative experience, because management has always been very responsive to errors made on behave of their staff. However, today after waiting nearing an hour for my food to arrive (which I anticipated). I was extremely disappointed as part of the order was wrong and the rest was cold,of course we all make "mistakes" And things happen. However, I requested the entire order be redelivered so I can enjoy my entire meal, as this was my dinner!!! I truly believe in a chance in attempt to turn the customers experience around. I called and explained to Samantha the manger the "SIMPLE" error made on their behalf and asked for my requested be accommodated as the error was made on their behalfBut, to my surprise Samantha the "MANAGER" refused to replace the order and goes to say "the rest of the order isn't wrong and asked me to wait an additional 30 mins" to have the one dish redelivered. Personally, my expectations is that I receive what I ordered .... would it be "HOT"? maybe not will it be neatly delivered? not expected. But, what I do expect is at the very least, is that I get what I ordered ....as I paid good $$$$ for the service. Food is great service SUCKS!!! My coworkers and I went in for happy hour but I must say I was a bit disappointed. The piña colada was weak and so was the apple martini. My friend had the sangria and she said it was just OK. The wings were a bit soggy so I asked that ours be fried and add the sauce to the side. Overall it was just OK. Not many options on this side of town. Lol read more

We came here during the drink specials which were pretty much regular priced drinks (based on NJ prices; I'm from NJ). It was $5 for a beer (don't remember how much the second one was), $11 frozen margarita (got one at the special price and the other at regular since the time expired for the specials). The menu had a lot of items that looked good so it was hard to choose. First I would like to point out that the prices are pretty high for Italian (as far as what you're getting (many pasta dishes that are pretty simple to make). I ordered Fried Calamari and Mozzarella Sticks for the appetizer. The Calamari had no flavor and was pretty chewy (not what I'm used to). As far as the Mozarella sticks you'd have to be a pretty bad restaurant to mess that up so no complaints there. I asked the waiter for a good recommendation between 3 dishes and he pretty much was useless in that department. For our entree I ordered the short stack ribs which came with rice (that's it). The rice tasted like it had been fermenting in a metal pot for eons. The ribs weren't too bad but weren't cooked to fall off the bone although the sauce was flavorful. My lady ordered the stuff shells. Considering all you're essential getting is pasta with ricotta @ $16 it wasn't worth it especially when they bought out 4 medium sized shells. We didn't get bread at our table like we saw at other tables and forgot to ask as our waiter was pretty much non-existent after taking our order. All in all the tab came out to $90 ($105 w/ tip (shouldn't even tipped the guy that much since the service was crap)). I've had better food at other places for the same price or slightly less (Morgan's BBQ comes to mind). I will not come here again partly because of the service but more so because Italian food is so plain to me (not much to it and overpriced at many places for essentially pasta with some sauce on it). If you want to come here for the live show then do so and just have some drinks and maybe some appetizers. Cliffs: Pros: -Live band -Ambiance (lighting/decor) -Big place. Cons: -Service (may have just been our waiter to be fair) -Overpriced for pasta but it's to be expected when going to overrated Italian spots, -Drink specials (if they want to call them that) aren't really that great compared to other spots in the city or nearby. read more

The ambiance has a nice feel and the drinks are great. I usually come to G-Bar to sit at the bar. Today I invited my friend for her first visit. Unfortunately, it was a lack luster experience due to the poor service. The bartender seemed like he was all over the place. He walked past us several times without giving us a menu. Every time I needed something I had to call him several times before he acknowledged us. I noticed my food was taking a while to come, so when I looked over, my wings was sitting idol near the frozen drink maker!!! Yes, He left my food sitting there making drinks over it! Who knows how LONG they were sitting there, but him making drinks over my food was completely unacceptable! My wings were cold by this point so I asked to reheat it which took it longer for my food to come. He was so lackadaisical about the situation it completely turned me off! I asked for my check while it wasn't busy and the other server seemed uninterested taking care of it. I watched him gesture me to wait a second as he walked over to do something else. I'm looking at him go to the end of the bar and basically chill. I pulled out $40 unknown of my bill bc he hasn't given me my check yet. He finally realized I was ready to GO and gave me my check. Amongst other stupid things that completely ruined my experience here, I left him a tip. I will be returning bc I do like the space, but only when the bartender I like is working, otherwise I am NOT giving them my service based on the bullshit they pulled today. read more

Came here this past weekend with a few others for a friend's birthday. The atmosphere was nice, and the place looked clean. We were given bread for the table, as some others in previous reviews said they had not. I ordered the penne alla vodka with grilled chicken, and I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. Everyone else was pleased with their meals, as well. Food arrived surprisingly fast, also. Although, this may have been because the place was a bit dead. So because carmines was packed and I really wanted Italian food I let my hubby take me to the G bar for Mother's Day dinner. Of course I wanted some tortellini or baked ziti but it wasn't on the " Mother's Day menu" so I decided to get the lasagna. Our waiter was nice but was really all over the place forgetting my husbands salad and when my lasagna came out it was ice cold. We called him over and he said " sorry give me one second" 10 mins later no salad and my cold lasagna was still sitting there! I now asked for the manager he came over said the lasagna would be on the house and will send another order out, this time it was warm but half the size of the original size! oh well! This is my first time going to G-Bar. Sat at the bar during happy hour, it took a long time for the bartender to notice us. We ordered the wings, fried zucchini and calamari off the happy hour menu. The wing sauce was strange...not good, not bad but if you're looking for traditional wing sauce this isn't it. The fried zucchini was cut way too thick and the batter didn't keep. The calimari was tasty and a large portion, enough for two. Crab stuffed shrimp was very good and the wine sauce on the linguini...you won't miss that hint (declaration) of wine flavor. The best thing about the G-Bar are the drinks. Spot on across the board. Definitely not the watered down drinks you sometimes get at other happy hours. read more

The waitress seemed to struggle with the language. I asked for zucchini sticks instead of mussels for the hot antipasto plate. When I finally was served the hot antipasto plate, at least five minutes after my companion received her food, it arrived with some sliced zucchinin on the side. Now about the hot antipasto plate: 3 tasteless shrimps, 4 so-so baked clams, and some cheesey, gooey thing. What a disappointment! My companion liked her penne a la vodka with chicken. This is the spot for SOuth Bronx. Everybody hangs out here and its a semi professional atmosphere with great food and music. Live music during the week with a lot of great acts. I took one of my out-of-state New England girlfriends here for brunch one Sunday. I am a big fan of brunch, and an even bigger fan when I'm with girlfriends! This place has fabulous brunch dishes. It's a brunch buffet and they also provide omelettes made to order. The drinks were tasty, and the atmosphere definitely felt as if this is the local brunch spot in the area. The portions were huge put it the chicken cacciatore was so tasteless (as was the fried calamari I sampled and the other pasta dish whose name I don't remember). I was very disappointed because I was really craving it. The strawberry martini kinda sorta made up for it in that it was absolutely delicious (fresh strawberry puree!) but it was also not filling like a plate of chicken and spaghetti with melted cheese and marinara.
