We had a fabulous lunch today at the Pine Restaurant and couldn't have been happier with the experience. Our waiter, Ramon M., was exceptional--warm, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout. His recommendation for my entrée was spot on. I had dined here once before for a busy Saturday night dinner, so it was especially nice to experience a quieter, more relaxed lunch this time around--a completely different vibe, but just as enjoyable. We skipped the complimentary bread and ordered the garlic bread instead--absolutely worth it. Warm, flavorful, and truly delicious. For appetizers, my husband had the arancini rice balls, while I ordered the artichoke hearts oreganato. Both were excellent--well-prepared, flavorful, and satisfying. For mains, I followed Ramon's suggestion and went with the sole Francese, paired with a side of linguine in garlic and oil. The fish was incredibly tender, fresh, and absolutely flavorful--cooked perfectly. In fact, as I'm writing this review, I'm still thinking about it and already looking forward to coming back to have it again. My husband's rigatoni filetto di pomodoro was equally impressive--simple, classic, and full of flavor. Even though we were completely full--and had leftovers to take home--we couldn't resist dessert. The tiramisu was the perfect ending: light, balanced, and just the right touch of sweetness. Great food, beautiful weather, and a relaxed atmosphere made for a perfect afternoon. Oh The Pine! I was introduced to this spot by a friend for my Birthday dinner. I must say the service was spectacular the minute I walked into this beautiful restaurant. First of all they bring out this freshly baked loaf of warm bread with butter that's perfect to start with. Then I had a chicken and pasta dish that was so delicious. I keep going for the dish. It's that good. Amazing. And I finished off with their crème brûlée. The service was nothing short of stellar. The wait staff was attentive and accommodating. Didn't miss a beat. Very nice crew. This has been our go to restaurant for years. We love it here. The last time we went was on Christmas Day and it was absolutely incredible. Wonderful drinks, incredible service... We have never had a bad experience here. I even had my graduation dinner here, 10 years ago, and at the time I had no idea about planning, lol, and they pulled together a last minute section for me and my group of 10. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. We look forward to the next time we visit and hope to continue to eat here for years to come, even when we move out of the Bronx. The lobster ravioli comes with little shrimps and spinach and is absolutely delicious. The penne à la vodka is so flavorful and when you add chicken it's actually a good amount. We opted for valet due to the limited street parking available. This place seems to be a favorite of many and I understand why. Good authentic Italian. It's tough parking so use valet! The place is huge and staff very friendly! We tried the eggplant parm and side order of meatballs. They both were very good. The eggplant was seasoned good the sauce tasted fresh and it was hardy with a slight nod to sweet which I like. Our friends got the pasta with vodka sauce and sausage and it was delicious as well. For starters we ordered a salad ( really good for a salad lol) lamb chops lil over done but in fairness we didn't provide a temp when ordered and the clams which I can't eat but hubby said they were really good!!!! In my opinion they've gotten better since my last visit. Consensus at our table from regulars that are constantly here, is that F&J seems to be providing larger portions to match their prices. You don't hear that everyday. Afternoon service was fast...maybe too fast in some instances, but nothing that affected our meals or dampened our spirits. The restaurant was half empty during lunch hence the reason for staff being eager to keep busy. At least that's what I'm guessing. My cousin rented A & J Pine for her graduation party, and overall, it turned out to be the best value for a party of 40. The venue itself is very pretty; there's a charming fountain out front that sets a great first impression. To pass the time before the festivities, a few of us hit the bar. My man ordered a blue piña colada (super fun and tropical), and I had a spicy margarita. It was decent, but I think it would've hit harder if they used Tajín on the rim instead of salt. For "Cocktail Hour" we had passing of hors d'oeuvres of Chicken Parm Sliders that came out kind of cold, Fried Ravioli with a cheese filling that was too dry for me, Coconut Shrimp, and Crab Cakes; I don't eat seafood, but those who did raved about the crispiness of the two. The Salad Bar & Cold Antipasto display looked nice and fresh. The cured meats, mozzarella, and focaccia were crowd-pleasers. For the Main Course we had Sirloin of Beef, Sadly, the quality felt more like a frozen TV dinner cut. There was Pork Tenderloin, but I didn't care try it. The potatoes were dry and hard. The Eggplant Rollatini was too thick and juicy for my taste, not the best texture for this dish. The Penne & Stuffed Ravioli were good, something you'd expect from an Italian restaurant. The Venetian Dessert Table was the highlight of the night, it was a work of art . Table was beautifully done, with a chocolate fountain at the center and a great variety of sweets: tiramisu, cheesecake, cannoli, mini pastries, cupcakes, and more. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. My daughter was so excited for this. There was Unlimited red and white wine at the table (Canyon Road) was a definite plus. Also, a good range of soft drinks, juices, tea, and coffee was available throughout the evening. Despite the food being hit or miss (leaning a bit too mid for my taste), most of us felt we got our money's worth. The venue was beautiful, the drinks flowed, and we had a great time celebrating. This place is an institution for the real OG's of The Bronx. Although it's not technically in Arthur Ave, it gives off that same classic Italian-American vibe. My best friend's family has been coming here ever since his grandparents emigrated years back, and it's been their tradition since the 50s when they'd seek out community, driving in all the way from Queens. The place has changed locations a few times, but this one really makes you feel welcome. It gives off more of a suburb, local feel, with people dressed in all sorts of manner. It was nice to see everyone dressed up in their Sunday best for this Memorial Day weekend. Just a heads up that Valet parking is available (and mandatory) outside to help deal with The Bronx Traffic (an eccentricity of this area/borough). We had a reservation for 2, and I imagined it helped a lot, since all of the tables were perpetually full for the entire duration of our meal. This place serves up the classics, and that's exactly what we got. We ordered the Arancini Balls (Parmigiano Reggiano, arborio rice, mozzarella cheese, ground beef and green peas) to start, chicken parm (of course) with a small side of angel hair (that comes included) for the first main, alongside the Orecchiette Broccoli DI Rapa and Sausage. Free salad and bread comes at the start of every meal, which beats out Olive Garden regardless of "unlimited". The salad was fresh and the bread was super soft -- just make sure not to get super full from it. The Arancini Balls come in a set of three that resemble 3 large boulders with a small sea of delicious "gravy" -- definitely get this if you come. The chicken parm came with three/four large chicken breasts and admittedly, just one bested me; the pasta dish was also only 1/3rd tackled by us, despite our best efforts. The Orecchiette was perfectly cooked and the sausage bathed in the rich garlic sauce was divine. The chicken parm was standard fare, though I would have liked there to be more breading and larger chicken breast -- it was a bit flatter than I expected. All in all, a great meal set in a great environment if you're in the area. read more

A group of us went their for Thanksgiving. First, they text you like crazy to confirm your reservation. You get there and they can't find it! It was busy but not like it used to be years ago! The waiters are always friendly so that's always nice. The young bartender needed help making drinks but she was alright. 1st allow me to display the food ordered. Eggplant appetizer, calamari, brushetta with shrimps and baked clams. All was just ok .. !!! Sadly, I expected it to be outstanding but it wasn't. The server is not the purchaser of the food. The calamari were very small thin and not a large serving. The brushtta was on a hard piece of toast and the shrimps topping that were overcooked. What disturbed me beyond anything was the gentleman (or lack thereof) and his rude behavior. After being there for 1.5 hours and today Saturday March 29 the temperature here in New York City was a solid 82*, I kindly requested for the air to be turned on because it was warm .. Sadly, this animal represeting this establishment, yelled at me telling me that there was nothing he could do with the oven on and the restaurant filling. He refused to assist. What disturbed me was that he could have said the same thing professionally yet he didn't... I asked him to please lower his voice and to that his response was "NOT EVEN MY MOTHER TELLS ME TO LOWER MY VOICE"! I quickly removed myself and returned to my table. As we left, this animal says to us "REMEMBER I'M THE MAN"! What is this man's issue???? In addition, the food was not up to par, however, this man who i have pictured in my review. The heroes are filled with fillings and large. The seafood bisque and pasta figole are my favorite soup. Can't go wrong with their risotto and seafood linguine. Great service and good food a gem in the bronx i got pesto gnocchi and it is out of this world. i need to ask them for the pesto recipe. it was fluffy and full of flavor. i think this will be my go-to every time i visit! the veal masala was good at first but after awhile the sauce started tasting like soap and i wasn't a fan of it anymore. i wonder if it's the pesto gnocchi combo that did teach but overall it was pretty good in the beginning. its a lot of food ! ambiance has lots of bronx italian heritage things and is family friendly awesome space and has valet on premise 9/10 too good read more

I came here w/ my cousin,friend, & her mom. We came here for a birthday lunch for my cousin. Her birthday was the previous day. The decor inside is beautiful!They have a section where you can have a huge party w/ a mini waterfall on the outside. There's portraits of celebrities & the NY Yankees everywhere on the walls. It used to be just called Frankie's & Johnnie's. They used to have the best chicken parm sandwich in town. It took a little bit for the food to come out. I walked around exploring. I was soooo disappointed in my food. It didn't taste like before. They fell off badly.The sandwich had hardly any chicken (mostly bread) & the chicken was so thin @ that.The sauce/chicken flavor was off & the bread wasn't toasted. It had been many years since I had been to F&J Pines. It may have been called just Frankie & Johnny's at the time, and I always remember it being a great restaurant for Italian cuisine. Well I came back to have my mother's 75th birthday dinner, and F&J pines has not missed a beat. The food and service was outstanding, from the antipasto to the family style plates of all Italian dishes. Every plate of food was delicious. I have been coming to Frankie & Johnnie's Pine Tavern since I was a kid. (I know it's now "F&J Pine Restaurant", but not to me.) Old school Italian men I looked up to brought me here back in the day. The same gentlemen who taught me to cook. So, I confess my bias. (Although I have no affiliation with the staff or management other than being a fan.) I was back home for the holidays, and took the opportunity to bring my kids, now that they are adults and can appreciate it. They now share my love for the joint, and were telling their friends who live in NY about it during the ride home. In the day, this was a hidden gem. Not a speak easy, but despite always being packed, it felt like a private club. One of those places people who know would come to rather than go to the better known tracks of Little Italy and Arthur Avenue. Closely held by word of mouth. Hopefully I don't get kneecapped for writing this review. So we rolled in with a big family group this time. 3 generations of hungry Sicilians who love Italian food. The decor is still classic and upscale. Dark oak, red carpets, white tablecloths, and brass railings, with memorabilia of an homage to Italian heritage and the NY Yankees (autographed photos, bats, and jerseys of Bronx Bombers of every era). The servers treat you like a bygone era. They wear the white jackets, introduce themselves, make recommendations, and are conversational and friendly without interrupting you. (Chiui was on point all evening, and did not rush us as the crowd started to thin as they drew to closing.) And the food is always phenomenal. Authentic, and delicious. The menu is long. You probably won't reach the last page because you'll already be torn between 5 great options by page 3. And there are so many tasty seafood options, appropriate to my Italian heritage. Their pasta y fajole is some of the best. I've had the veal so many wonderful ways over the years. But this time my kids and I couldn't decide, so we ordered 3 entrees to split family style. Frankie's Ragu is rigatoni and meatballs in a delicious meat sauce full of ground pork, sausage, and beef. The lobster ravioli is in a delicious garlic lobster cream sauce with spinach. And the linguine Pescatore is in a red sauce chock full of lobster, crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, and octopus. We had loads of leftovers (not of the lobster ravioli) to bring home for lunch the next day, but had to get some of the amazing desserts too. Despite having such a large group and us moving around the table to socialize, the waiter was patient with us and able to take all of our orders accurately. Food was tasty and came in large portions. As customers who have ordered delivery from Frankie & Johnny ( F & J Pine restaurant)several times, We will NEVER spend our money with you again. This evening we ordered lasagna $30 and eggplant parmigiana $22 to be delivered. When we received our order we noticed that it was chicken parmigiana, we were not eating meat for a fast. My husband called and spoke to "the manager" Marco who preceded to tell us that he will give us "store credit" which doesn't make sense since we don't eat from there on a regular basis. When we went to open the lasagna to feed our kids there was a single portion of lasagna that we know was not the portion size we have ordered in the past. We called Marco again to complain about the order and he told us to send him a picture then hangs up the phone. I sent him a photo via text and he never responded. My husband called him back and he preceded to argue that this is the correct size. We explained to him we have order their $30 lasagna several times and we always had portions that could feed at least two but he continued to argue that we were wrong he was so loud that I could hear him without the phone being on speaker. After this fiasco, my husband told him we did not want the food and would like a refund and we will personally get in our car and return it, this is when Marco hung up the phone on my husband, in other words "you're getting nothing!" Not only was he rude but was very unprofessional! I'm sure it could of been busy and someone made a mistake with the orders but to act as if it's our fault and don't even try to amend the situation shows a lack of integrity and consideration for your customers and I will never spend or recommend this business to anyone. read more

Came here for a grad dinner, the hosting family are regulars at this restaurant. The calamari was pretty good but not the best I've had, still worth an order though. The drinks were strong but still good, the mojitos and espresso martinis were favorites at the table. The bread service was great as well. The toasted ravioli was also popular at the table. The shrimp fettuccine Alfredo was good, fairly rich in flavor. Lamb chops were good as well. A member of our party had gotten the pesto gnocchi and didn't like their dish. The waitstaff was very good about replacing the dish for them, it was swapped out for another shrimp fettuccine Alfredo. The cheesecake, crème brûlée, and ice cream were good as well. We had celebrated HS Reunion 50th Anniversary. The price we paid for the food in my opinion was over priced for 13. The food was not warm, the chicken Parmesan was over cooked and hard to cut, the ribs were not cooked properly and was not seasoned properly, the chicken wings and drumsticks were to myself ok. Overall, not the best place for me to eat there again. I travel a lot and I am a foodie, who likes to rate restaurants for their food, hospitality, etc. We decided to take a group picture and it cost a lot in my opinion with frame. One picture we took as a group,frame felled and broke and when requested to see if they could replace as a courtesy their response was no you have to pay for it again that is outrageous for the amount of money we paid for a group and their service was mediocre. One of my friends talked to the manager and the money paid extra was returned.Don't think I would go back first and last time. I was told that it was not as good as it was many years ago. Living in the Bronx, never been to this restaurant, but did hear how good the food was and its service but during the years many said it had changed. I was warned that it's just not the same anymore. I should've listened to my friends. You get treated like a king walking in this place so my family came from Puerto Rico never ate Italian food and what better way to show my family. A good time is to take him to this place. I get there and warm reception that I usually get wasn't received this time so I'm looking around I ask where is Marko? I found out he left. Didn't look too good in front of my family. I get a table waiter that was new and didn't know the menu. So I couldn't explain to my aunt what she was exactly eating since I'm not Italian. So since Marko left this place isn't the same anymore. I came here with a group of friends and the place is so elegant. As soon as you walk in, it feels like you're at a really fancy spot. They have a brick oven for their pizzas in the front which makes it look so authentic. The food was good and the portions are huge. The only complaint I really had was that the penne allá vodka lacked flavor but I fixed that by adding salt that was already on the table and asked for red pepper flakes. It took it to another level.
