It's very rare to find a Restaurant in City Island that offer Happy Hours so we ventured out to Vistamar to try their Happy Hour Drinks. To my surprise, no one was sitting at the bar when we arrived so we had a choice of seats. This restaurant has a very elegant decor and I was looking forward to trying their drinks. The mixologist handed us an iPad which had all of the menus, drinks along with pictures - which was very helpful. The drinks we ordered looked exactly like the picture and were very good. We ordered a round of Sangria, Margaritas and a Lychee Martini. We were very pleased with our choices and our very pleasant mixologist who did an excellent job. Vistamar is definitely worth visiting for the drinks and we will be back to try the food. read more

Too damn noisy!!! it looks nice on the inside, but you can't eat decor! You better learn how to read lips if you expect to eat there and have a conversation. It's a seafood place with almost as many meat options as Seafood. They have valet service, but there is a language barrier. With dozens of other seafood restaurants on the island go anywhere else and enjoy your dinner! read more

I came here for my moms Birthday. It's a Hispanic fine dining restaurant in city island. We came here early afternoon on a Sunday for the brunch menu and it was an interesting experience. The interior is really nice. It's fancy and you get a view of the water. We started with sides. Everybody was able to pick a side from the brunch menu. We got chips & Guac, calamari, and I got the soup of the day. I feel like they could've done better on the calamari portions but it was definitely good quality. All the other sides were solid. My soup was good. The broth just needed more of kick to it. The octopus dish was my favorite of all. My sister got the oysters. I don't eat them so I can't speak on those. She seemed to enjoy the oysters. For the mains, I got the chicken and waffles which doesn't come with a side. Every brunch dish comes with a side besides the chicken and waffles. One of my sisters got the branzino with rice & beans and my mom got the steak and eggs with mashed potatoes. The chicken and waffles was okay. Presentation was on point. I love how they added all the fruits. The chicken had flavor but was lowkey hard/not tender as I wanted. I tried the branzino. I like how soft and flaky the fish was. The rice & beans was bland. The steak and eggs was really good. I like the portions of the steak, eggs, and mashed potatoes. Everything pairs well. If I had brunch here again I would get that dish instead. For dessert I got the flan. I love the cotton candy hit. The flan wasn't as sweet as I expected but I ate it with the cotton candy and it worked. As someone who loves Flan, it was definitely an interesting mix lol. For service, I wasn't a big fan of it. I felt like everything felt delayed. I don't know if it's because there's unlimited mimosas a part of the brunch package or something. There was only one person at the table actively drinking. We got there before the rush of people but overall anything we needed took more time than expected. One of my favorite parts was the entertainment. They had singers and dancers at first. Then Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Then there was a clown lady. I enjoyed the entertainment it was funny and family friendly. Overall, the experience was not bad. read more

Tons of fun, average food: Great fun atmosphere and perfect for a lively and entertaining restaurant experience. The food seemed to play second fiddle to the spectacle but was good enough. Periodic performances from the staff added to the fun aspect and was executed with great entertainment value precision. The service was good but overall, it took a while for our orders and drinks due to the kitchen and bar being backed up. We went on a Saturday so birthday celebrations were abundant adding to the festive vibe. The DJ played great music all night but the volume was loud, so it was hard to hear while conversing. Outdoors, people enjoyed hookah and/or the perfect weather. All in all, great place for a fun time and good/decent food, but not necessarily the place for a more intimate setting or exceptional eating experience. read more

Found out about this place last year and really enjoyed it, but after coming back a bunch of times since then (current Duke of Vistamar), I've realized they really play fast and loose with their rules. One of my hard NOs for some places is when they are misleading with their pricing/billing. Sometimes they honor the happy hour thru to 7, sometimes they don't and it's extremely frustrating because nobody lives out here; it can require additional effort or an uber to make it in time. So when they decide to go to 7 or stop at 6:45 (when you get there at 6:47), it's like a slap in the face. Idc, update the website daily to your actual honored hours based on however the manager feels when they woke up that morning. read more

Birthday Dinner at Vista Mar -- A Whole Vibe! So apparently I was the guest of honor and didn't even know it -- my birthday dinner at Vista Mar was a total surprise! From the outside décor to the inside ambiance, this spot was giving vacation dinner in another country energy. When we arrived, a live performance had just wrapped up, but don't worry -- we got treated to three more shows throughout dinner! I was living for the energy -- it gave the night that "we're not in Brooklyn anymore" vibe. Appetizers: I had the crab cake -- good, but not the best. He had the lobster mac & cheese and shrimp cocktail, and let me tell you, that mac & cheese was definitely the star of the starters. Entrées: I went with the lobster linguine (10/10 recommend), and he had steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli. When I say that steak was so tender it cut like butter, I mean it. Whoever cooked it deserves a raise. Drinks: I sipped on a spicy margarita and a sidecar -- both strong enough to make me dance but classy enough to keep it cute. Dessert: The lemon drop cheesecake was heaven! It came with ice cream, macaroons, and the cutest birthday sign. The presentation alone made me feel like a celebrity. There were Libra birthdays everywhere that night -- it felt like a whole zodiac convention. The vibe, the food, the performances... everything was top-tier. I've been a loyal customer of Crab Shanty's for 35 years, so I had high hopes when I decided to try something new and visit Vistamar on City Island for a fun and classy evening by the water. Based on Google reviews, it seemed like a great pick, but the experience turned out to be quite surprising. First off, Vistamar has a Latin nightclub vibe with bachata, merengue, salsa, and heavy reggaeton music blaring so loudly you can feel it in your bones. Unfortunately, my Spanish isn't the best, and most of the staff spoke only Spanish. Even after I explained the language barrier, they couldn't hear us over the music anyway, so communication was a real challenge. Adding to the chaos, the DJ constantly interrupted the music to sing along--badly. We ordered a couple of appetizers and an entrée to share. The ceviche was mediocre at best--a 6/10. The crab cakes were the highlight of the meal and earned a solid 7.5/10. For the entrée, we got the whole lobster with shrimp, mussels, clams, octopus, corn, and potatoes in lobster sauce. Sadly, the lobster was undercooked, making it almost impossible to remove the meat from the shell. My date had to request rubber gloves to deal with it, and when we asked the waitress if the chef could crack the lobster for us, she said yes--but nothing came of it. Again, I don't think she could hear us over the music. There was one bright spot: an energetic busboy who, despite the language barrier, checked on us every two minutes and danced for every table. While we couldn't stop laughing at the sheer entertainment of it all, it didn't make up for the challenges. Overall, the experience was a 6/10. We made the best of it and had some laughs, but between the deafening music, language barriers, and underwhelming food, I can't say I'd return. If you're looking for a lively Latin dance party with okay food, this is your spot--but it's not for everyone. read more

Visited Vistamar for my sister's birthday during their Wednesday cigar and live music night. We were seated right away outside, and although the live music was quite loud, the view was amazing. We got there right around sunset and it couldn't have been prettier. They are doing some updating inside their restaurant, but overall, the ambience indoor is beautiful- I loved the bar and various photo op spots. I would opt to sit inside for the next visit. Jonathan was our server and he seemed new to the gig. Nonetheless, he was attentive when we called him over and adhered to our requests. For drinks we ordered bottle service which came out right away. For dinner we got the seafood tower which was HUGE. The only complaint I had was the whole lobster served with it. It was so messy to break this lobster down and most of it ended up going to waste :( We ordered a few other appetizer samplers and they were not bad but for the price our expectations were higher. Overall, for the steep price of dinner, I expected better tasting options and better communication from the servers. For 6 adults, with bottle service and mainly appetizers, our total bill was $630. I would give Vistamar another shot for drinks only and taking in the scenic water view. read more

I went to a birthday brunch here, and before I call out the pitfalls of this restaurant, let me highlight some positive things. The entertainment and disney characters for the kids is a nice touch, the restaurant is spacious, they have some tacky decor for photo ops which people seem to be into, and there's valet service upon arrival The service was mediocre, the waitress had an attitude the whole time, and very difficult to get any subs from the menu, ie: I prefer my eggs Sunnyside up instead of scrambled but they wouldn't comply with my request, they promote bottomless brunch but i got 2 drinks during that 90 mins span and then had to order coktails from the bar and the food was ok nothing to rave about or come back to. read more

What a fantastic holiday find! I'm so glad we decided to try this spot during happy hour (some restaurants were not doing happy hour due to the holiday). My partner and I enjoyed both the red and white sangria, along with delicious coconut shrimp, fresh oysters, and flavorful empanadas. And at just $10 a glass, the sangria packed a punch, seriously, where else can you find such a great deal on strong drinks? The smooth music and overall vibe were perfect, and Jose, our bartender, was incredibly attentive. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu! read more

Met up here with my family for Saturday brunch. My daughter ordered French toast with cotton candy which was presented nicely, as well as her fudge brownie with ice cream dessert. My sister didn't think the food tasted as good as it looked. I only tried their mimosa, it was fresh and strong, they offer bottomless for 2 hours. There are many lovely areas for photo ops. At night this spot becomes club like. I don't think I'd plan to come here to eat, but I'm willing to meet up with family and have some more drinks again. read more

I really enjoyed Vista Mar. The happy hour deal is great. There's both food and drinks on the menu. Get there at 5:30 latest thought because they're are very funny about offering happy hour as the time approaches 6. The space is also beautiful it's great for happy hour or a good night out. Thought the set up outside is nice, bugs were all over the plates and silverware. One giant one even landed on me, so I can't eat outside. I also found that the waiter we had was pretty inattentive despite the restaurant not being busy. We had poor communication with the host and she had us sit down in the patio outside . The flies was all over our food! Also there was a damn rat that ran past us by the entrance . I came here for a friend's birthday celebration. Parking was valet and they had us checked in quickly. The restaurant was decorated beautifully. The music was upbeat and the bar had a nice selection of spirits. The hourly performances were very entertaining and had all of us singing and dancing in our seats. The menu was a prefixed and they accommodated the shellfish allergies at the table. The entrees came out timely but the food was lukewarm which was disappointing but it did taste good. There were no prices on the menu we had at our table for the food and i do feel for what we received food wise , the price was too high. I always go to city island but tend to always go to the same restaurant. I decided to give this place a try and it did not disappoint. They have outdoor dining but it was a little cool so I opted to eat inside. For appetizer, I got buffalo wings. Then as a main course, I got crispy fried shrimp. I only came for drinks, so I can't really speak on too much. It was pretty much empty with only two tables occupied. However, I sat at the bar. The bartender was really amazing, offering her suggestions and she was spot on. Both drinks were really good, and of course the presentation of the Jack Sparrow was super dope. Now, there was a live DJ and this is one of those times where I was not feeling this vibe at all. Aside from only playing Spanish music, the music was SO LOUD. Like I could not even here the person I was with. It was super annoying and it seemed like the DJ was not reading the room. He was in his own little world with his friends at the DJ Booth smoking Hookah. I would really like to come back to try the food, and hopefully I can report a better experience. Brunch but make it Boozy! I had the pleasure of eating here on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. I was apart of a large party celebrating a baptism. There were 25-30 people in our party. Firstly they allowed us to be seated as we entered. Unlike other restaurants that won't seat you unless your entire party is present (imagine having to wait for 25ppl before you can sit?!) As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the hostess. I told her the party I was with and she escorted me over to our area. Vistamar is the definition of esthetically pleasing!! Amazing views of the water, full length glass windows, pops of color throughout with pretty floral arrangements and tons of natural lighting. Shortly after supplying us all with water our waiter made his way over and began taking orders. He was so on point and organized. He started with our appetizer and drink orders. Once our apps hit he came back and took our entree orders. Since we were a large party he also created tabs by table!!!! No discrepancies when the bills came because it was only you and the ppl you're sitting with. GENIUS!!!! I started with a caesar salad as my appetizer. The dressing had to have been made in house... the best caesar dressing I've ever had. The salad was so good I totally forgot to take a picture of it and by the time I did it was almost gone. As my entree I had the Todo Terreno. Mangu was full of flavor, eggs were seasoned & scrambled hard with cheese. For an additional $25 you can enjoy 90 minutes of unlimited mimosa and sangria. The sangria was soooo good that I never had a chance to taste the mimosa. Whenever it was time for a refill I stayed with the sangria. At the end of the night we all said to each other.... "What was in that sangria" LOL. Brunch was such a vibe.... Great music, DJ and an MC. The MC was so entertaining. Walking around with the mic & interacting with the entire restaurant. I ordered the bottomless mimosas (for only $25) & chicken & waffles.Waffles were really hard & chicken was mediocre.It was fried little chicken cutlet pieces in a batter.Im used to having chicken & waffles w/ fried chicken legs,thighs,breast,or wings.my cousin had a cheeseburger w/ fries. I should have ordered that instead. He said it was so delicious. Me and My Honey came here for our one year anniversary. This is the second time we have came here and the experience was even better than the last. The food was delicious and the Service was on point! Shout out to Jonathan and the other staff helping out!! All of our questions were answered and we were constantly checked on We got the chicken Empanadas and the crab cakes for appetizers. The crab cakes were delicious and the sauce that it came with just complemented the dish. I got the Paradise island for a drink. It had a beautiful presentation and was my drink of the night! For dinner, my honey got the T-bone steak with Mashed Potatoes and I got the City Island (Skirt steak, Shrimp and Lobster tail) with potatoes. We were both very happy with our food and the steaks were cooked as asked. The lobster tail stood out to me as well. It wasn't fishy and it was cooked to perfection!! I have a love hate relationship with Lobster, but when I come back I will be sure there is a tail on my plate!! I took dessert to go. We came on a Wednesday night for dinner. The last time we came the manager /new owners stopped by and said they were going to be making changes and we'd likely see them by the time we came back. I was not prepared for how many changes were in store. The menu was practically completely revamped. The ambience is the same as far as the vibe as set up but different aesthetically if that makes sense. They've prettied up the outside a bit more as well. And there are more decorations all around. I know there is another section for private parties and a catering hall I believe but I haven't visited that part. The main dining area is very nice. Last night we had the pleasure of being waited on by Suli and she was sweet and attentive but not overbearing. We would definitely ask for her again if she's available on our next visit. This time we ordered: Sparkling water for the table Appetizers - Salmon Croquettes ($18) Buratta with tomatoes on the side ($22) Entrees- Branzino ($39) Crispy Fried Shrimp ($27) Add on of four (4) fried scallops ($12) Drinks- Mango Margarita ($16) Pink Paris ($17) Everything was absolutely delicious! They may have changed the menu but they didn't downgrade in any way! The food is still great! The service is still awesome! I believe it was the evening manager who stopped by to check and make sure we were happy and and everything was good, which speaks to the customer service. And also they make it very clear that the tip is included on the bill. It's a moderate 18% and you can choose to add any additional if you choose. I'm also glad they don't charge a credit card fee. Parking is $5 cash only. We got here on a Saturday afternoon, it was a perfect time, because there was nobody really there(1pm). We got to sit outside since the weather was perfect. Although the indoor seating was very nice as well. The staff was all kind and helpful. There was a wedding going on in their event room, so the parking got pretty crowded fast. I believe they have Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday brunch djs, so I can imagine this place becomes a big party. We ordered a the appetizer for two and Mac and cheese, later we got the mofongo with shrimp. I can't complain about anything at all. The server recommended the Shrimp mofongo and it was delicious. We liked looking out to the water and enjoyed the decorations outdoors. We had such a nice experience here I will absolutely be back soon! read more

Came here for our Anniversary because my Wife saw it on Instagram, & we wanted to try somewhere new. So glad that we did!! We're already planning to come back with friends. They have a shared lot with another business & Valet Parking which cost $5. They have beautiful waterside dining, stunning views, but we ate inside because we didn't wanna sit in the 95° heat for the view, LOL. The interior is nicely designed with a blue theme (my favorite color). The staff was speedy & attentive. When we first arrived it was EMPTY, as in us & one other couple. By the time we left it was starting to get crowded, but the staff's service did not change. Now for the food: 1st they give you complimentary buttered bread sticks....So good. Maybe needed salt, but still very good. (I think they used unsalted butter) We had the Asian Style Pork Ribs appetizer & my God....DELICIOUS!!! Literally fall off of the bone tender. The "Asian style" sesame sauce they're glazed in is amazing. For our main courses we had the 'Surf & Turf,' & 'Broiled Lobster w/Scallops' with a side of 'Mofongo.' The food was incredible, except for the Mofongo. It was dry & flavorless. Drinks, we had a Long Island Iced Tea, needless to say it was STRONG! Also the Miami Vice & Jack Sparrow, the latter of which interestingly has no rum in it. We didn't do dessert, but I ended our experience with an espresso. Good on flavor & presentation, bad on temperature. It was just above room temperature, warm at best. Overall, Great food, wonderful experience, we WILL be back. read more
