I visited Vistamar on Labor Day after some friends suggested we visit a new Happy Hour Spot they discovered. Originally I said no because I was on a date and had just finished having a light lunch. Out of the blue she asked "would you like to go to City Island?" My eyes opened wide and I said Absolutely! So I decided to to to the same place my friends suggested and to my surprise, the place is beautiful. We made it just in time before Happy Hour ended. I didn't want to sit at the bar with my friends so the Manager sat us down at the corner table with the most amazing view of the sunset. We ordered the fried calamari, and Tacos. Went on Saturday on 5/11 before Mother's Day which irregardless was a busy wknd. Had made a reservation just to be on the safe side. We were seated right away. Waitress came and greeted us and left disappeared for a while. Once our drinks came we ordered apps and mains. Appetizers came out fast granted they were only half a dozen oysters. Then we waited about 45mins-1hr for our main courses. Everyone at my table (my mom and aunt) were very upset and hungry to say the least. The waitress never even came or check up on us or give us an update about the food; it wasn't until we all kept looking around for anyone to acknowledge us that a food runner and a busboy got the manager who was apologetic and told us our food was coming. The food finally gets to our table and the whole order was wrong! I specifically told them that this was not my dish which I had ordered a seafood trifongo and I was handed a shrimp one only. The food runner took only my mom's and aunt food back and as I insisted that mine too was wrong the waitress assured me it was what I ordered. I took 2 bites bc I was hungry Nz then the manager again comes and takes the dish confirming it was not mine! So we wait a little more for our actual food to finally get there. And after all that waiting and back and forth the food was mediocre to say the least. This place has seriously lost its value since I was Don Coqui. After everything said and done the service was horrible to the fact that even the food runners commented that there is "something wrong with the waitress." Not once were we even offered to comp a drink or one meal for all the inconvenience they caused us; mind you I only had one cocktail...it would have been the least they could have offered, but alas they did not. Would not recommend this place as there are far more superior seafood places in City Island. Ambience is loud and rowdy...they also have hookah which we did not know and my aunt suffers from respiratory issues but thankfully the hookah was being served in the bar side of this place. read more

The website and reviews I saw for this restaurant are deceiving. I booked a table indoors for 10 on Sunday early afternoon. we had to decline to be seated inside because the music was so loud like discotheque. So we waited for a table outside and thank God it was not hot And they prepared the table quickly. But after that the service was horrible too much waiting for someone to attend us and the food was not that great for the long waiting I ordered a friend red snapper and fried shrimps and they were brown as they were refried a couple of times. we also ordered camarones Al ajillo the Plate had like 6 or 8 kind of small shrimps. other plates did not look appealing either. We went on a Friday night so they had a live DJ that kept the crowd entertained. I ordered the fried red snapper with rice and beans & my bf ordered the steak with lobster tail and rice&beans. The place looks beautiful and very well kept. Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to even get a table. This morning I looked online to make a reservation and saw multiple openings from 12:00pm on, since I was not sure at what time I would be able to make it I figured I just walk in. I approached the host and ask her for a table for three, her 'polite response' was give us a few minutes. Although there were multiple tables of all sizes free I understood maybe they had reservations. I stood there for several minutes during which at least three couples walked in and clearly heard them being asked if they had reservations, to which they would say no, however they were seated. (Even funnier that the last couple that walked in, the man said to the lady, so many free tables and people waiting, and then got sat). I proceeded to approach another lady that was by her self at the host table and asked her if it was going to be possible to get a table, that ( girl with curly hair), very polite asked how many and grabbed the menus to go and sit us down, at that moment the first girl I had talked to (blondish with a bun ) arrived and the curly haired girl said " I am going to sit them its a walk in for 3" to which the blond bun girl avoided eye contact with me told the girl no, and while the curly haired girl confused looked at her she shrugged her shoulders and motioned "no" with her head. The curly haired girl uncomfortably told me she couldn't sit me at the moment, to which I responded okay thank you, and left. I do not like to assume what is going through anyone's head, however it was very obvious and unpleasant, careless behavior for a host. Went here for a girls night with my close friend at first I was very skeptical about the place, we had reservations but the wait can go up to 2-3hrs and people wait!!! The vibes and inside of this place was A1 they even have an outdoor patio that was also decked out. The hostess was so sweet pretty and helpful, since it was just two of us it was somewhat hard to place us they had 5 birthdays that day! But one of the gentleman was able to get us seated thankfully. They had ah live saxophone player who was nothing short of amazing wish yelp would let me post the video. He played so well and hit ever beat of the song being played, this place turns into a party after 9 so be prepared to turn up lol. Now onto the food I loved everything but the appetizer was our favorite honestly that garlic sauce was chefs kiss. VistaMar has lost its touch of class. This is the 2nd time in 2 months we celebrate 2 occasions there.The service isn't good. The food is over cooked, Food orders done come out complete, the portions are really small. They are rushing you off the table. Both times the Steak was over cooked, the Fried Shrimps burnt dry. Came here for food, drinks and atmosphere with a crowds of 20 ppl. The space where they sat us was too tight. They get nasty, when you complain. Not professional at all. I went on a hot summer day , the service was terrible very terrible the food was terrible the drinks was missing and we had to call the owner because nothing was right and definitely not for the high price. On Instagram, Vistamar is constantly promoting a Brunch with a show that starts at 3pm and another at 5pm. When I called to make my reservation, the hostess informed that it starts at 2pm. The waitress told us that the show was for 3pm. Two dancers came out and danced for 2 minutes and that was it. My family and I were very disappointed and upset because we were there to celebrate our father's birthday and we promised him a show and dancing. There wasn't even a DJ. The music playing wasn't lively. We were planning to return for my goddaughter's graduation but that will not be happening. read more

Visited City Island for the first time this past Saturday night. Bottom line? If your looking for a place that has beautiful scenery, strong drinks, live music & a great DJ then THIS is your place! We were taken inside for a big birthday celebration at 8:30 and didn't get served our meal until 10:30. I realize it was a busy Saturday night but I find that unacceptable. On top of that, no one loved their dinner! It was decent but definitely not anything to write home about. Penne Alla Vodka was NOT good. Fish was ehhhhhh and lobster ravioli was disappointing. The drinks are strong and the live saxophonist was truly epic! The DJ played a nice mix of Latin music and R&B and their were some people dancing but they definitely need a dance floor. Felt very disrespected when the manager insisted that my service dog has to be in a cage. He is task-trained to mitigate a disability, how can he do that from a cage. When I mentioned that that requirement is illegal, he said that's our restaurant rules. And we will seat you away. ADA law states that you are not allowed to treat people with disabilities any differently than other guests. I will file a complaint with the DOJ so that they can be more aware of ADA laws. read more

We had reservations for pre fix courses for a family celebration and when we arrived we were told we would have to wait two hours for the food to come out so we ordered off the regular lunch menu. Not only did they take a whole hour to seat me even though my table had all arrived at the same time they took about 45 minutes to take our order and then the food didn't come out till 12:30AM. Our reservation was for 10PM! The food was good but by that time everyone was annoyed and didn't even want the food no more. One of my favorite places on city island. Gorgeous building and beautifully decorated. They have a big parking lot and are located right at the beginning of City Island so you don't get stuck in the famous traffic here. The host here took my order personally and he was wonderful. The skirt steak with house made chimichurri and truffle fries were out of this world. Highly recommend for a beautiful dinner and brunch. Brunch was great, they keep the drinks flowing. Steak and eggs were delicious, my husband had the chicken and waffles. The cotton candy was a nice touch but there was not much chicken with the meal. The servers were kind and very accommodating. FYI there are no substitutions with the menu and once you choose your drink option, there's no switching. The view was gorgeous, you could see the water and the nyc skyline. The bathroom is cute mermaid themed and there are plenty of cute places to take pictures with friends. One major issue though, it was TOO loud. So loud we had to put in earplugs. If you want a club vibe, this is for you, but if you are catching up with friends or have a headache, beware of the volume. read more

Brunch was delicious loved the shrimp cocktail and the chicken and waffles everything was DELICIOUS! We celebrated a 70th birthday and was expecting a simple yet elegant diner, however it was a WHOLE party! But in the most fun unexpected way. Minnie & Mickey, and clowns came out and were dancing Salsa & Bachata, but like...going in in lol. They even had face painters. We did a soul train with all the guest from the entire restaurant. When it was time to sing happy birthday, the crew came out with the lit Happy Birthday sign and a bubble gun machine, it was a scene. Took my parents and girlfriend to Vistamar yesterday Sunday. They sat us down right away and being 4 at a table we wanted to start the day with a pitcher of Sangria. The waitress told us that she wouldn't be able to serve us a pitcher because we're not a group and that if I want we can order 4 glasses of Sangria. I didn't understand because it was 4 of us in total! I didnt want to ruin our day so I said okay just bring us water then. She came back later and asked, are you sure you dont want to order anything to drink? I kindly said no just water and then I couldn't help it and I had to ask what's a group of people if a table of 4 is not a group? She then said she will ask her manager and came back with the okay! Two pitchers later we finally got our food but it didnt matter because we enjoyed the shows they put on for everyone. We enjoyed the atmosphere and will be back BUT this time I will ask how much a sangria pitcher costs because the total amount on the receipt for 3 sangria pitchers didnt make sense and each pitcher came out to about 62 and change as if tax was charged to them separate before adding to the bill. I wasn't happy about it but didnt want to make a big deal. Hopefully when I come back this wont be a issue again! read more

The decor here was beautiful! My friend brought me here to celebrate my birthday. I ate chicharrón de pollo with rice and beans. The rice was bland and a bit hard, but mixed with the beans, it tasted much better. The chicharron de pollo was delicious especially with lime juice. Based on my personal experience last night I ordered the Seafood Paella the rice I could say is paddy rice, have red and green diced pepper, clams, shrimp, oyster, calamari, and a whole Lobster but honestly the shrimp have an awful smell/ taste and the rest of the seafood except the lobster in which it was more the shell than meat. It was not enjoyable nor tasty like other Seafood Paella I had before! (I didn't ate the shrimp or the other seafood) My friend had the Churrasco with Shrimp and Lobster Tail side of Tostones and she said it was good; I should've had order the same thing No I will not recommended to my Families /friends but everyone has different tastes and drinks were like fruit punch. I felt super rushed by the male waiter even though they do have a sign awering customers "2 hours minimum seating" basically people have to order right away, that wasn't busy at all; we sat on the patio by the parking lot. Bills cannot be split between friends, if you ask me If it worth it to go and seat with friends or family my personal opinion is "NO" take it to go and go home to eat n' relax "Yes" otherwise I will go elsewhere. Go and see for yourself maybe your experience will be much better than mine. A seafood Paella should be tasty and Fresh not Frozen and rice package for $35 I expected more for the drinks they should be more delicious $12 drinks with no taste of alcohol. read more

Great vibes, poor customer service and the food was ehhh. We were a group of 7 coming together to celebrate two of our friends' birthday. From the moment we were seated it took about 10-15 minutes for us to be asked if wanted anything to drink. At this point we haven't even received water. Naturally, we ordered our cocktails, water for the table and appetizers. We ordered the coconut shrimp, the octopus and the lobster Mac and cheese. The coconut shrimp was amazing! The octopus was too hard. The lobster Mac and cheese was a bit bland in flavor. For the entrees we ordered shrimp mofongo, two grilled salmon with mash, lobster ravioli and I believe the other girls got the surf and turf. None of the entrees were good. The mofongo was bland and too dry. The salmon literally had no flavor besides the lemon I had to drench over it. Our salmon plates were supposed to come with kale salad and when I asked our waitress she said she'd look into it - she came back to advise the kitchen ran out and forgot to tell her which in turn caused her to not tell us. We literally had vegetables that looked like the frozen veggie medleys with the broccoli, carrot and peas and green bean pieces. The mashed potatoes also could have been microwaveable because they were lacking in flavor, they literally tasted inferior to mashed potatoes from the cafeteria in elementary school. The lobster ravioli was highly salted and stood untouched. The surf and turf was bad, truly a waste. We ordered a flan and a chocolate lava cake but received two flans. Mind you, the chocolate cake is more expensive and was not adjusted on our bill. I recommend the passion fruit mojitos as they are made well here. Two of the cocktails were removed from the table while being full. I was asked about my finished drinks which I approved to be taken off the table. However, some of the girls were either dancing or taking pictures and when they returned they were confused as to why all of the drinks were taken without them being asked. I looked for our waitress and advised her of the issue. The first drink she was able to replace but the second one she said she was not allowed to replace. My sister was highly upset because we paid the entire bill without asking for anything to be removed despite how poor everyone's plates were. The waitress was able to then replace that second drink as well. Overall, the vibes and music here are great but the food is not and the customer service needs work. The entertainment is great, the entertainers in masks come around and pour tequila in everyone's mouths and they make it very party-like. The music is also really good. I was disappointed because I heard the food was good, but again, I would only recommend the coconut shrimps and the passion fruit mojitos. Oh, and the cotton candy that came with the flan was amazing as well! read more
