I have been here several times and enjoyed the spot. This particular Saturday afternoon around 3..i guess the shift was changing was terrible. We sat for a good 20 min before we got water. We only stayed because we were in good conversation and catching up. The server was running around frantic but only had 3 tables. Playing in his hair as if he on Malibu Beach fluffing his bangs. Smh. We ordered an appetizer it came AFTER our meal. The Cheese Ravioli with Chicken Pasta was oily. You could pour out so much oil. He did apologize NUMEROUS times..hey that's tje kitchen fault..i get it. The bill comes it's extra stuff on our bill, server apologizes again comes back with the SAME BILL...apologizes again and says dessert on us. Before we coukd say what dessert we want, this time he comes back with a tiramisu in a plastic container saying this for you....sorry but no thanks. Gotta go with 4 stars considering the place in comparison to the other options around. Loved the decor and it does have a manhattan feel but in the bronx which I enjoyed. I was their for lunch with my boss and the food was okay but I have to go for dinner for a true assessment so this kind of a warm up review. The wine list was impressive. Went to the G-Bar with some friends for Brunch - yum yum! The food selection is great - chilled seafood, salads, Italian dishes, and breakfast items. There is so much food - you have to go in shifts! Then there's the choice of champagne, mimosa, or belini to compliment your meal. Brunch is a great value at $25.95. The ambiance is casual and the staff is friendly. This was my second brunch journey to the G-Bar and I'm sure it will not be my last! read more

Born and raised in The Bronx. There are not that many nice bar/lounge feel places to go to. Especially for a date. Only a handfull and The G-Bar is one of them. Came here this past Friday night with an old flame to catch up *Devilish smile* and to watch the Celtics get their but kicked by the Cavs. We had Steamed Mussels, crab cakes, fried calamari, and mozzarella sticks. So after my SOBRO experience at the Bruckner Bar & Grill Hetu and I headed to the G Bar! Located on 575 on the Grand Concourse the G Bar was a beautiful bar really nice interior. The Thursday night crowd, I have to say was so interesting!! All kinds of ppl! For a second before we walked in I was like, oh GOD Hetu, they're gonna be like what the hell are these two Indians doing here-it was the exact opposite-I didn't feel that way at all! Anyway... Our bar tender was super nice-she...paid attention to our needs....The food ppl was amazing. It was good homemade Italian food, but it was so FRESH, and original. We had red snapper which came with clams on the side..(which was a sweet surprise) in a tomato sauce. Oh and we had it cheesy Garlic bread...Yummy! The atmosphere was really laid back; you can eat right at the bar, or in the restaurant area. The crowd was fun! It was quirky yet original and true to the BX vibe!! Everything was confusing and bizarre as we walked in to this Italian joint. My friend and I jaunted our way through the to-go area thinking someone might be a hostess and seat us. Mm-no. We finally sat. It took what seemed ages to order food and get some water but once the bread with the sun-dried tomato oil and bread came, we stopped our catching up and hoarded the taste in our mouths. Yum- stop talking to me, Erin. This is is just too good. "Can we have some more? Thanks." The food came. It was great. Simple. Families were dining and having their time together. I noticed the to-go girls eating ice cream pops while putting orders in. So cute and authentic to the day and what jaded Brooklyn 30-somethings think of the Bronx nowadays! If I could rate 3 1/2 stars, that would be more accurate to describe this establishment. It's better than three stars, but not quite four. You have to commend G-Bar as being a legitimate, cool bar in the South Bronx. As someone who resides nearby, it's refreshing to see a restaurant that's classy and semi-bougie. The restaurant is divided into 3 parts: the sports bar, the traditional bar, and the nice multilevel seating area upstairs. If you sit upstairs on top of the sports bar, you'll have a great view of half-dozen or so TV's. The traditional bar is more somewhat low key but still fun to enjoy a drink. There are, however, two small gripes that I have with G-Bar. The "G" in G-Bar stands for Giovanni, which is the pizza restaurant on the other side. The restaurant's menu is simply the Giovanni menu except that it's more expensive. Just like the old saying goes, you can take someone out the 'hood but you can't take the 'hood out the person. You do, on occasion, see a more rowdy and boisterous crowd than you'd otherwise expect. But I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and say that they're just having a good time. G-Bar is an overall very good experience for someone who has money, but doesn't really *have* money. read more

This rating is for the bar only, which you enter through the door on Grand Concourse. (If you just see a dark room with tiles and 4 top tables, you entered in the wrong place and need to walk back and to the left to the bar.) If G-Bar were in Manhattan, I would give it only 3 stars, but it is the only upscale-ish bar I know of in the South Bronx and that gives it bonus points. It's decor is pretty sleek, with a well appointed bar, and lots of fancy cocktails on the menu. The drinks are nothing special and almost as expensive as in Manhattan, but it's understandable that they would charge a little bit of a premium since they're filling a much-needed niche in the area. I've come a couple of times for Happy Hour and the bar is always packed. The crowd is very diverse and on the young side. Regardless of your background, you won't feel uncomfortable or out of place. My hunch is that most of the people who hang out here work in the many nearby schools, hospitals, social service agencies, and court buildings. read more

Let's get this straight. The food is good, and the portions are nice. The drinks are nice as well. But for the life of me, after suffering a huge embarrassment on Mother's Day, I will never go here again. Our server kept pressuring us over and over to leave. We were there only 20-25 minutes before being asked if we were done eating, and was given a bill immediately. I told her we were interested in buying more drinks after we finished our current ones and she wanted us to order new ones while our cups were still full. I recommended to my wife and mother on law to come here because I've always liked the place, but left in embarrassment because of how we were treated. There were empty seats all around us as well - so there was no reason to rush us out. All I could think was maybe I smelled bad or something. It had what i was sent .. was clearly chicken marsala When i called back to say that my order was wrong Im asked to describe it .. and told my order was correct conclusion: This resturant has the same dish under 2 diff names when a chicken is swimming in marsala sauce .. its chicken marsala period. PS .. i asked for their ROLLITINI SAUCE whatever that is, to he put on the side ..instead got a container of marsala sauce making my chicken soggy and not edible I was so annoyed with my order, including the garlic knots i didnt ask for, but didnt come with marinara sauce. With great excitement for good times merriment with a my 2013 Valentine's in the Bronx, low and behold I'd signed up for a forty five minute eternal wait by the bar for one measly table. Aija! Waiting time for a party of two table was dreadful eternally long. Unbeknownst and unplanned I also ran into one of my former managers of a past employment which a familiar old face was warmingly good to see. Upon our entrance we were instructed of a long wait and received buzzers while blushing and flirting to Long Island Tea for him and Cabernet Sauvignon for myself. Drinks are, I believe, reasonable amid my friend an able man who refuse any contributions by me nor would he permit me to review the bill. The long wait in conjunction with the excessively loud noise volume was discouraging to dine at G-Bar, ergo we finished our drinks and took off which was when, ironically, the moment is our buzzer lit alive. There are hooks under the bar for one's personal belongings and purses. Disappointingly, I really wanted to go to the lounge in the upper level from examining the photos online albeit, I was not hungry from sustaining my hunger pangs earlier from Dim Sum. G-Bar is a large restaurant space with a back dinning room and a front dinning room including a lounge in the upper level. This review is for their all you can eat brunch... save your precious $34 and go somewhere else. First and foremost Giovanni's is most likely the food preparers for this brunch and they have a C rating by the health department. That alone should've turned me away but I said what the heck and rolled the dice on brunch. Yes, there is a variety of food but does it taste fresh, no! The turkey sausage links tasted like they'd been siting our forever, chicken Parm was ok nothing spectacular to rave home about, the chicken tenders and fries were a disappointment (how do you mess up chicken tenders and fries?!?!). My friend (who loves ribs btw) took one bite of the ribs then threw the rest away. The mussels or oysters made my friend want to puke. However, on May 17, 2017, I ordered penne Ala vodka with chicken, The food was so bland that I couldn't even eat half of it. The sauce tasted like it came straight from a jar. The chicken was bland and smothered in batter as well. My friends ordered the penne with brocoli rabe in garlic sauce. Their food was as bad as mine. They asked me to check the number again to make sure that I actually ordered from a genuine Italian place! I am not sure what happened to Giovanni! Perhaps there's a different chef that has no idea how to prepare standard Italian dishes. Or, they just got sloppy. I can't think of any other rationale for such bland and unsavory Italian dishes. Came here for drinks after work, it wasn't overly crowded which I like! There was also a second bar that I sat at. The happy hour specials were good. The passion fruit sangria was tasty, not strong enough for me but tasty none the less. The wings and calamari also were good! The bartender was very attentive and polite. She made good conversation too. There was nothing over the top or exceptional. Drinks food and good service which is the least I expect from and establishment when I go out. I use to love coming to The G Bar but in recent times the food is GROSS! The drinks are watered down. I had to send back the calamari it taste like rubber the wings had entirely too much sauce oh and the bruschetta had so much garlic it was inedible when I tried to send it back they offered to make it over I declined the offer and was still charged :( No worries that turned me off so bad I unfortunately give up on this place. This is a good spot. The food is definitely great. They have a lot of options. They have pizza, calzones if you're into take out, and they have good italian food if you want to dine in the restaurant. I walk by here to and from work everyday and it's always filled with people. The crowd tends to be older though. I give this place 3 stars because of poor service. The only time I went to grab a drink with my friends, the waiter acted like a total douche bag and the drinks were not that great. It wasn't cheap either..it was about $10-$12 a drink and that's comparable to manhattan prices. Im not paying that for this place. Went on a Sunday for brunch with a group of 7. Brunch is $28.95 per person (11am-3pm only) and it includes 2 cocktails free of charge. If you want more cocktails, it will cost you $2 extra for each additional drink after your initial 2 (mimosa, bellini, champagne). Please note my only critique is that my mimosa was mostly champagne and no OJ in it, which resulted in all of us getting a little tipsy... The food selection is primarily made up of seafood so if you have shellfish allergies this place might not be such a great choice as you will have very limited choices. Like others have mentioned G-Bar is a part of the Giovanni's, which is on the corner but are strangely connected. They have a very young staff but most of them are very friendly and attentive. Pros: Nice decor and atmosphere. Cons: Overpriced food and drinks, with European servers that come across as racist. I have been familiar with this spot since its opening in the early 2000's and I was a frequent patron, until it completely lost its appeal. During its first years, G-Bar was the go-to spot for attorneys and judges from the nearby courthouses during the day, and the hot spot for local residents at night. The decor looked classy, the food though pricey was excellent and service was prompt. But, my associates and I were never entirely comfortable with the attitude of the servers; almost exclusively European, they had (what we perceived as) Aryan, snobbish attitudes. And once G-Bar raised their prices, I chose to no longer support them. I went back very recently for dinner (hadn't been there in many years, thought I'd give it a try) and the experience was troubling. My wine was served in a glass that was clearly dirty at the base and stem and when I called this to the attention of the server, his response was: "We only wash the front of the glasses." My party and I were like HUH??? I called for the manager who immediately took the wine off my bill and offered me another drink without charge. By then, our food had arrived and while it was edible, the price points really didn't justify the value. Ultimately, the incident with the dirty glass left a bad taste in my mouth (pun very much intended). As for the servers that come across as racist, I coincidentally had a conversation with a friend shortly after my recent experience. She told me she had brunch at G-Bar the weekend prior and felt the food wasn't bad but the supremacist-type attitude of the servers was a serious turn off. Both she and I have decided never to patronize the establishment again. With so many great places to eat in NYC that bend over backwards for your business, why settle for anything less? read more

My bestfriend and I went to the G bar a few weeks ago for drinks and chews just to catch up on things. It was a nice choice. Nice decor and good service. The bar area is pretty small for an afterwork crowd. The crowd is very mixed - professionals and locals. The main thing I liked about this place is if you want to get away from the crowd there is an upstairs seating area that has an intimate setting. This area is also good for an intimate dinner. The food was ok. The part I didn't like is that they closed at 12am on a Friday! (Wtf!) And we had just arrived at 10:30pm. The staff was not too proud to say it was time to go. One of my favorite, easy places to go in The Bronx but this past Thursday service was so horrible. Barely greeted by the hostess, the waiter was clearly not ready for work. He was yawning and repeated our order several times. We witness another customer who was given the wrong check by him. So I placed the order for the children first, and then drink orders for the adults. GBar is always a great "local" spot to visit! Monday they have a great deal on lobster which I had oreganato style and it was meaty (mostly lobster tail) and delicous. It was karaoke night which was pretty funny and entertaining. The side salad was lacking but the angel hair pasta was a great side choice for the lobster.
