I was here two or three times during a several day event at the Tsongas Center and was very pleased on each visit. Service was always good. They had a nice selection of craft beer. The HALF POUND LAMB BURGER & olive relish, applewood bacon was really great and the FISH N CHIPS Crispy fried cod, house fries, Napa slaw & lemon caper tartar worked out well too. We are new to the Boston area about 2 weeks and looking to explore. A visiting friend from Tallahassee is what enticed us to get out and about. We decided on a place about half way for each of us and Fuse Bistro got the votes. Downtown Lowell, which is not very exciting. Right away I was not impressed with the neighborhood and honestly it felt a little sketchy to me. The photos I'd seen of Fuse were very inviting but looks can be deceiving. What we got was a drab, boring, uninviting establishment, short on atmosphere and service. We arrived a little earlier than our friend and decided on some drinks. I discovered very early in the game that the server was going to be less than friendly. Not even a smile. Have you ever been to a comedy club and there's some clod sitting in the front row who doesn't even crack a smile, even though the comic is extremely funny. That's this guy. Anyway, the wine selection was good and I decided on the house red which was actually a blend. It was very happy with my selection. The server had nothing to offer us in terms of recommendations and the beer menu was boring. Does anybody drink Bud or Miller anymore? Seriously. The food though presented nicely, wasn't very appealing. I had a tuna steak ordered medium rare but what I actually got was a seared version, which I don't have a problem with. It's just the fact that I got something different than what I ordered and that's kind of a faux pas in the restaurant world. It was served nicely with 4 ravioli and some asparagus spears but it was flavorless and unimaginative, swimming in a soupy broth on a plate. Now I know fish are swimmers but I don't think they care when they're dead. In the future if we're ever in Lowell, we'll be trying other things. My experience is not yours. Check it out for yourself and you might find yourself up there with all the other 4 and 5 stars. read more

My husband and I have been more and more impressed with Downtown Lowell and wanted to pick a spot to try for lunch. We choose this on a recommendation of a friend and are very glad we did. Lunch was burgers, apps, salads.. a small menu. However it was tough to pick what we wanted. The options were all appealing. I had a hamburger and my husband just got an app (although he wanted a burger AND the appetizer he only got one... he wasn't really all that clear, I don't blame the waiter 100%) What we had was cooked very well, the burger was slightly overdone but it didn't at all distract from how good and how fresh everything was. Even something as simple as pickles were just a bit different than what one is used to. It was a superb lunch sitting out in the lovely weather while looking down a very quaint street. I came back on a busy Saturday night; had to wait a while to get a seat. Three of my party was new here, so I was hoping to show them a good restaurant, but was disappointed. They ran out of the special (grass-fed sirloin) by 9pm, the entrees were nothing exceptional. The only highlight was the live performance from a guitarist with a great voice accompanied by another man who could play the drums and guitar. I had the Tuna Burger, which was all right. The all Natural Fried Chicken was good too. However, the Filet Mignon was disappointing, as the zucchini cakes were highly salty and the steak itself only mediocre. The Streak Fritte was probably better. The soy-ginger wings were okay. Overall, my second experience was disappointing since I had an amazing experience the first time. This could be a result of the packed place (compared to the relatively few patrons from the other night). In conclusion, I'll come here seasonally for the meals, since they have special dishes and great drinks, but won't be some place I'd frequent regularly. read more

Fuse is located inside an old fire station, built in the 1880s if memory serves. It was also the location of the illustrious Cafe Paradise, boasting the best top shelf spirits and Sunday brunch in Lowell for some very spottily remembered years. But, enough historical waxing. The draw for me is two simple items: 1. The only dedicated Boulevard brewing - Tank 7 tap in walking distance from my house. 2. They make their own tater tots. Yup. Tater tots. In all fairness the tots are less latka balls reminiscent of middle school hot lunch and more panko rolled mashed tater croquette. They hit the spot for me, all crispy and creamy and greyere-y. I get the creme fresh on the side, otherwise it can detract from the mouth feel. There was a time when "fusion" was the buzz word. An exciting mix of classic and modern sensibilities through the lens cuisine. Conceptually, that motif has become mainstream to the point of being ubiquitous; from chain restaurants to gastro-pop food trucks. Fuse is, unapologetically, the result of that normalization. Personally, I don't think that's good or bad. It's for you to decide if or when you patron them. A final note. I love the people watching on this street. Its an old Lowell boulevard. Like, OLD, old Lowell. Cobblestones and light strung trees lining the slab stone side walks. Mix in the occasional reggea tone throbbing hoopty, gaggle of hammered UML coeds, and a kaleidescope of bohemian, ethnic, masterpiece level social misfits that exemplify the "New Lowell" art/culture scene and its worthy of a fine summer evening spent out on Fuse's patio. read more

I tried Fuse Bistro out yesterday evening in Lowell out, based on the reviews here on Yelp! I'm not from Lowell, but was hanging out with a friend who was. He was only having drinks, but I was hungry, so this seemed to be a perfect fit. BEST first ... The BBQ Burger w/Cape Cod chips on top. WOW, what a burger. Cooked medium and it was actually medium. One of the best burgers I have had - and I love burgers! $9 with fries! The rest of the menu looked good, with prices from $9-$28 on entrees. NEXT .. the drinks were good. Not too strong, but again good. $7-$9 was the range on the mixed drinks I got. FINALLY ... the service was okay. There were maybe four patrons in there, but a few periods of delays of occurred. The staff was very friendly, however. The ambiance was nice -- contemporary in an old mill setting, quite fun. read more

We went to Fuse in Lowell after work one day on a whim - it was a beautiful night and we wanted to sit outside. Our server was super nice and friendly I got Caesar salad with chicken. It was okay. Chicken was served cold. It was dry, and had obviously been reheated. I will never understand restaurants that do this! It was a tiny chicken breast that could have been cooked fresh in like 3 minutes! If I wanted leftovers I would stay home, you know? Ugh My daughter got cauliflower crush flatbread. It was okay. Can't complain too much when our choices were so uninspired... The biggest hit of the night was a specialty cocktail they have this summer: a Swizzle with tequila, lime, pineapple, and chartreuse. I came with my office on a Friday for a dinner after work during the Folk Festival. The staff is very friendly but just a little slow on the service, but its understandable since its one of their busiest weekends. I ordered the appetizer ribs and was WOWED because the meat just falls off the bone and the flavor is great. Also ordered the Alaskan crab leg with the dip but definitely did not expect to only receive ONE crab leg. *Dually noted, no S at the end of the crab leg means no more than one crab leg* The main courses was fabulous though. Entree menu is small but fairly well mixed. Tuna tacos were messy but delicious. Others got burgers (Cape Codder is simple but a big hit) and house-made pasta with mussels which were completely devoured. Fuse doesn't have a ton of choices, but fills out their small menu with a selection of entrees that don't force conservative diners to get too far outside their comfort zone. Went on a Saturday late day, 6 pm or so. Wanted to go because we LOVED their sister restaurant in Westford, but sadly they closed. They had the absolutely best steaks and tips. But that did not translate to Fuse, Lowell. My fiancé's steak was to be rare, but came out medium. To their credit they did take it back and brought another. Unfortunately while it had decent flavor and was cooked correctly, it was chewy and disappointing. Me, I LOVE friend chicken so I ordered the friend chicken off the special menu. Asked the waitress several questions like "it's not precooked then reheated in the oil like some are?" No, all cooked fresh to order. Good... NOT. When the "friend chicken" came it was, yup, chicken tenders, 4 of them on top of mashed with a sauce. Yes you read it right, it was 4 chicken tenders, and not very good tasting ones too boot. It was NOT a breast and another piece or two, batter dipped and lightly friend to a golden brown. Nope chicken tenders which as i told the waitress i could have gotten at Wings Over Lowell just one street over! Finally the bill with food and two drinks each was $90 on which I left a $20 tip. When I got home I see there is a hold for $165 on my card. It was too late to call when I noticed so we stopped by Sunday and they looked up the evenings receipts and showed me another persons bill for the $165 and said someone keyed it in wrong and it will fall off Mon. Nope didn't took til Tuesday. Not a major crisis but tied up my money for a below average meal and experience I shall not forget. You shouldn't either. read more

This place is on a lovely cobblestone street in the heart of Lowell, a trendy area now. One thing that attracted us to it was its location and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating seemed great at first, until I realized that about half of it was on a long bench which doubled as a fence. It had the annoying effect having you feel it every time someone else leaned back in their seat. We ordered Diet Cokes to cool off, but the fizz was gone from mine. My wife was OK with it, though. The waitress said that happens when they change out something or other, as if it's totally out of their control. She gave me water instead, and took it off the bill for me, but not for my wife. Food arrived. My son ordered the tuna fish tacos. The fillets were grilled on both sides, but raw in the middle. Perhaps that was intentional? What wasn't intentional was having some sort of wrapper with printed writing on it sticking out of the top of one of them. He ordered a hamburger as a replacement. It was good, and came with no charge. I think that was intentional. Hard to say. My wife and I had the fish and chips. Portions were small, and eating it annoying because it was served in a container that was more vertical than horizontal, with the first floor fish separated from the groundd floor chips by a paper napkin which also had tiny barrels of quite tasty ketchup and quite ho-hum tartar sauce. My wife ordered the only acholic drink, which was quite good. I think that that is what the place is best known for. read more

Haven't been very pleased the last couple of times here. We ordered short ribs, very dry and undercooked with no braising sauce, just an au jus. For me the sauce is the one big reason I order something braised! Polenta tasted like liquid smoke and the veggies of the day-asparagus and haricots with very dark brown (regular button) mushrooms tasted just salty. The other meal we had was steak and frites with a way overcooked tenderloin tail, that just should not happen at a restaurant on this level. We mentioned this to one of the waitresses that came outside since ours didn't come back until we were almost done eating. She offered to redo it right away, but we didn't want to wait/eat alone. Or we could get a free dessert. I don't let you know if something is wrong to get a free deal, just to let them know. Not sure if this was passed along to the kitchen or our waitress since she never mentioned a thing....or offered us anything. Overall tasteless and not very interesting. The only good item was baba ganoush. We skipped dessert for the above reasons. Also the outside seating bench is scary wobbly, we changed our table since I wasn't sure it wouldn't just crash under my weight and take the whole row of people down with me! read more

Great spot for dinner. Nice ambiance but it can get a bit loud inside if it's crowded. Outdoor seating is ideal on the warmer evenings. I love that the menu changes with the season and they get their produce & meats from local farms. The fish entree on the seasonal menu is usually fish tacos. Wish they had more non-meat options besides pastas and tuna burgers. They have a nice drink menu too but the bar area is a bit small. If you were planning on going out for drinks I'd recommend getting a table and ordering drinks and apps. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the neighborhood and looking for something a little different. read more

We wandered over here after placing our lawn chairs for a Lowell Summer Music Festival concert. We ordered gruyere tater tots for an appetizer, and I had a glass of excellent Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon; Bob had a draft Baxter IPA. Nick took great care of us and tolerated our questions about the menu. I ordered steak frites and Bob ordered the tuna tacos. Very delicious flavor although the steak was a little more medium well than medium rare. We had a nice chat with Nick about concerts and wrapped up our meal with a second round of drinks. Fuse suffers at the hands of the "kids" who seem to be running the place, from behind the bar. We all have choices and after multiple issues over the course of the last few years, I take my business elsewhere. I have to say that Lowell yelp reviews never fail to surprise me - some good places have really low ratings while some really dumpy places have 4.5 stars. Hopefully the Fuse's current rating won't keep people from trying it out - trust me, it's worth it. We love the Fuse. Ever since it has opened it has been our date night staple - every time we swear to try something else, and every time we end up back at the Fuse. The food is delicious, the drinks are strong and they have great music on Thursdays. And yes, we have had a couple of wtf moments ($8 cheese plate with literally two small bites of cheese, I'm looking at you), have sent back a glass of bad wine (which they didn't have any issues with), and have had to wait to get seated, but in all honesty it just doesn't matter. They have great food made with fresh local ingredients, have an amazing beer list and a decent wine selection and the atmosphere is the best in town. Its essence is very similar to the city of Lowell itself - no, it's not the world's most quaint and charming town. It has its rough patches and areas that could use improvement. It's a love it or hate it kind of place, but if you do love it, it will treat you very well and surprise you with just how much it has to offer. read more

So I took my mom here as an early mothers day present because she had seen it on Phantom Gourmet. We were in around 3:45 pm on a Subday afternoon making us one of 2 tables in the entire place. The food was good, the serive was HORIBLE! We were treated like we were inconveniencing them by being there. I shared a dish with my mom, told the waitress that took our order, and when the bus boy...??? Brought out our food I asked very nicely if we could have a second plate. He stopped and gave me the dirtiest look like I had asked for his first born! He stomped off and my fiance and mom both stated that he "mean mugged" me. We've been here for dinner twice and both times were fabulous! This past weekend we showed up around 8:30 and almost all the tables were filled. We were quickly seated but it did take our waitress a while to come over and greet us, not a big deal since it appeared she was the only waiter on the floor. As far as food goes we had the crab rangoon appetizer - fantastic and much better than anything you could get at an asian restaurant. For our meals we have the steak frites and crunch burger.
