Great atmosphere and fun entertainment -- Garrison's definitely does that part well. The vibe is lively, and it's a solid spot to grab a drink and enjoy the scene. The bar food is good, but just to set expectations: this is not one of those local pubs where the food feels like home cooking. It's more standard bar fare. I tried the prime rib and was disappointed -- it was lukewarm and tasted like it had been cooked earlier and reheated. The baked potato came cold, added butter but somehow the butter wasn't even melted, which was confusing and took away from the experience. First time going here for lunch with a friend. From what I saw portion sizes looked great! I love a good turkey dinner and so I went for it. Total disappointment!! Very obvious the stuffing was boxed. Everything other than the gravy was cold. Mashed potatoes had no flavor, if I didn't know any better I'd say they were boxed as well. FOOD: Nothing to write home about here. Very overpriced. Food not very good and cooks cannot cook. First time there I got Veal Parm, my favorite to order if available at any restaurant. It was chewy, probably pounder pork loin and not real veal. Second time I got a pastrami and swiss sandwich. Pieces of pastrami no bigger than the fingernail on my little finger, very gross and salty, no swiss. Last time tried the hamburger. Asked for Med Rare, came out well done. Bun was toasted, which I did not ask for but bun was burnt, not brown, but black burnt. Table behind me had same exact issues with hamburger. He sent his back and I heard him wondering if the kitchen staff would not treat his return so well and he would probably not have returned it on second thought. SERVICE Got seated right away with reservations. Didn't see a waiter for 10 minutes. HE took drink order and didn't see drinks for 15 minutes and he missed one of the drinks we never got. 15 minutes later food order went in. 45 minutes later we got our food. TIME: 6:00 P.M. on A Saturday night. AMBIANCE: Simple walls and lighting, nothing special to tie to the price of food & drinks. Drinks somewhat weak. BOTTOM LINE: Would have been much better staying at home and cooking for about $10 a head instead of dropping $54 a head at Garrisons and having to endure bad food, bad service and terrible dining out experience. Went to Garrisons the other night. I had forgotten we have been there before and can't believe I have never reviewed. There is a big bar in one room and dining booths are in a separate room. I can't remember what I got the first time, but I do remember we split an Apple Crisp which was out of this world! It is made to order, and topped with ice cream and loads of whipped cream. We went again the other night. Sat at a cozy booth and ordered a Cosmo. The Cosmo came and something was off. Way off. So I asked the waitress to get me something else and she was happy to accommodate. The second drink was a fruity drink off the specials menu and was delicious. We ordered our entrees which came complimentary with soup. The soup was Turkey vegetable and hit the spot. I was in the mood for both steak and seafood, so I ordered the steak tips and baked scallops. I was a little leery of both as unless the menu says dry scallops you could end up with chemical tasting scallops, but I thought I would try anyway. I never order steak tips but didn't want to order the 14 oz strip steak as I would have never finished it. I asked for rice Florentine as a side. My steak tips were very good and scallops were excellent. I was really impressed with their "breadcrumbs" which were actually cracker crumbs which I prefer anyway over breadcrumbs. The rice was probably the best Florentine I have had. Flavorful, moist and delicious. My entree was very enjoyable and priced at $29.99. My husband got Chicken Parmesan with Penne and said it was very good. Price was $20.99. On our second recent visit, I ordered the same entrée as the first time. The scallops were as delicious as the first time but the steak tips were too well done. The rice was just as delicious as well. My husband got baked haddock which he said was fresh, flaky and delicious with a delicious cracker topping. We did receive bread the second time which is toasted bread with herbs on it. I would have preferred just plain bread as some of the pieces were pretty hard and were pretty hard to eat. We asked if they had the apple crisp and unfortunately, they did not. Maybe next time. The food and service are solidly 4 stars, everyone and I mean everyone from reception, waitress, servers and bartenders are friendly and professional. The scallops as everyone has noted were perfectly cooked and delicious. My wife's crab topped haddock had very little crab and the haddock was a bit overdone. The music was great, but only if you went to the small alcove where the musician was playing. Virtually a waste as no one else on the other side of the bar or the bar area dining room could hear him.... The server was friendly and the food came out the way it was ordered although a bit cooler than one would expect for dining in. Came here with a friend who is a regular and had a great time! Got a table in the bar, people are playing Keno, its kinda loud and packed- food must be good! Ordered some cold beers and got an appetizer plate while we talked and decided on what to eat. My local friends ordered the eggplant parmesan -which was very tasty and more than he could eat, and she got the Atlantic Haddock. Both were huge plates- the eggplant parm was fantastic and the fish was as well. .I ordered the haddock with scallops and glad I did. Since I was craving lobster, the scallops were cooked perfect, and the haddock had a nice batter, tender, great white flakey fish. The side was a spinach rice which was buttery and rich- perfect for the dish. With the scallops, my plate was $20- a great value which even makes it better!! Service was on the spot, had quite a few Sam Adams and enjoyed the evening there. For a Thursday night, to be this packed, it has to be one of the go to places in the area. Food was terrible. I asked that they go light on the wine and butter in my seafood casserole. It was drownding in wine and butter. That's all I could taste. Yuck! I ate one of the shrimp and one of the scallops, which were just okay and tasted like wine! I was hungry but couldn't eat anymore of that terrible dish. And the cooked zucchini and summer squash was mushy! I ordered a drink afterwards and it was watered down with soda water. The servers and bartenders are nice but food and the owner of this place suck! The band was amazing and people were dancing and having fun. At 9:30pm the owner shut the band off and closed the place. Who does that. The bar and bar side tables were filled with people!! We all went to another nearby bar that will now have my business. Never again will I go to Garrison's. Finally tried Garrisons out after recommendations from our friends. Sadly, we were very disappointed. We ordered surf and turf and upgraded to the baked lobster. Also added in a side salad for $3.99. Our meal came with no sides and no salad. Is it typical to spend almost $50 for a meal and not receive any sides and they forget the salad that you paid extra for? Our server was excellent, so I do commend that. The food, however, was really not good, and definitely not worth the price. The artichokes were nothing but a disappointment. We sent them back, and they were taken off the bill. I ordered the Tuscan chicken sandwich with no cheese. The chicken was so dry and flavorless, it was pointless. I got sautéed spinach and mushrooms for the side, and it was overwhelming with salt. Very overpriced. My husband got lobster ravioli. It was not hot, when served. It was taken and reheated. A very weird situation, because the pasta was dry, but the sauce was so watery. It had a very strange flavor. He took one bite. Our waitress asked how it was, and he expressed the dissatisfaction. It was replaced with lobster mac n cheese, which was much better. I appreciate the kind and wonderful service, but this was a huge hassle to have dinner. read more

They should pay staff to go to bartending school. Some don't know basic cocktails. The cigarette container at the entrance is disgusting. Get rid of it. Ok... Went again...and this time was better. Had the Onion Rings appetizer...and the Fisherman's Platter. Yeah...deep fry overload, but I had heard that the seafood was pretty good here, so I thought I'd give it a go. (Pics uploaded) So the Onion Rings were good...a firm batter is used here and it's obvious these are hand breaded and fried. Quite good...they came out with a Marinara Sauce that is average...and it's the first place I've seen that served Onion Rings with Marinara...thought that was just a Cheese Stick thang. Then the Fisherman's Platter came out...wow...tons of food. Finished about half of this thing. Fried food doesn't make the best of leftovers, but no way was I going to dust this thing off. Haddock, Scallops, Shrimp, Clam Strips, same onion rings and fries. Haddock...a little fishy. Fresh Haddock is never fishy...so you do the math. Shrimp...not a big fan of deep fried shrimp overall...I prefer it grilled or cold with a nice side of spicy cocktail sauce...this shrimp tasted chewy and a tad overcooked. Clam Strips...not great, not awful....in fact, quite par for course as far as Clam Strips go. Fries...pretty good, not great, but good. Tarter Sauce was ok. Cole Slaw was ok. And now I mention the scallops. Wow. So I got this plate to try the sampling of deep fried seafood...and I have to say, I would definitely go with the scallops next time. A whole big plate of 'em. Very tasty. The batter seemed to be a little thinner on these...maybe that is why I liked 'em best... Overall, a pretty good plate of seafood. The place is clean...dimly lit of course per usual. Both times I've been to this place, the staff were really friendly...I have to say, tonight however, we had Leana, (one N lol), waiting on us. Very cute...very funny...and a really good sense of humor. My buddy and I had a good time sharing a couple laughs with her. So this place hasn't blown me away food wise...but staff wise, they're the kinda place you want to throw into the regular rotation. I'll be back. read more

Came here just for drinks. I've gotten take out soup before. Really loved the soup. Always wanted to sit down, now we did! I got the coconut margarita. It was great! Fiancé had a blue moon. I believe one of the managers was taking care of us. He was supper nice and polite. He made sure we were taken care of, even though we were just stopping by for drinks. Great atmosphere and service. I can definitely see why this is such a busy local place. There was live music too. I think it was an event because there was a poster by the door, but I think they do live music often. The food was great! Highly recommended the French onion soup. The server Kerman was not good unfortunately. We felt rushed the whole time by her. We ordered the soup and 2 minutes after our soup came out, our dinner was given to us. We weren't even half way down our soup by the time our dinner was out. Obviously our dinner got cold because we were still eating the soup and she didn't care about it. I mentioned it to her and she didn't even apologize or do anything about it. Even when she gave us our bill, she was hovering over us to get the bill right away when we still had drinks to finish so I don't understand why she was rushing us so much. Great steaks, fun atmosphere, we were seated immediately. The tables were clean and our server was prompt, if even a little brusque. The menu is your standard American fair, steaks with potato or fries, chicken and fish dishes in a couple of specials. The food is nothing to rave over, but it is hearty comfort food. I ordered the prime rib rare and was not at all disappointed... Portion was great and my sides were good. Prices are in keeping with restaurants of this type. Casual dress, very local place.
