The quintessential three. Nothing noteworthy in either the positive or negative, though I gotta say the prices are very reasonable. Beyond that, the food is edible--no better, no worse. Eggs uneventful. Toast uneventful. Homefries uneventful (wish they had more crust and any onions, but that's me). Sausages uneventful, uncrusted, and a little sweet. Pancake syrup is a bottle of store-brand. Coffee is New England Coffee Company, which is as three as it gets. Okay so we wanted to come here and try it out, This place is hilarious the food is not bad. Make sure you CASH ONLY!!! The beans on the other hand is bland and taste sour. The steak and eggs were good. Pancakes were a bit too small for my liking. The environment is funny with Lowell best coming from the bars and clubs,loud and crazy but doesn't bother me it's comical. Parking is not that bad. They do not have handicap ramp so we had to carry my mother in law in good thing she's is only 90 lbs soak and wet ,lol but while my husband was parking the SUV I was waiting outside with my son and 2 guys from the diner they were customers helped my mother in law in!! My friends and I wandered into this diner because it was midnight, we were hungry, and not a lot of places were still open (we did not feel like going into any bars). It was fairly empty so we were able to seat ourselves. The decor is very homely and the place itself is quite spacious. The service was quick and prompt- the food came out shortly after we placed our orders. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with a side of fries. The fries were quite dry and the grilled cheese was a little too greasy for my liking, but overall, the food experience was not so bad. They only accept cash, but there is an ATM in the corner of the establishment! read more

I just had one of the most prototypical and amazing diner experiences in my life at the Club. I grew up in Jersey; that's a big deal. It's the morning after a moderate snow, but the sun's out and people are doing their thing, just a little slower than normal. I'm working from home, but decide to duck out for a fast, late breakfast. Walk over, grab a counter seat. The place is empty except for 2 old guys, regulars, in the back corner shooting the breeze. They obviously own that booth. Nice waitress, but not over-nice (which is good! I'd rather the honesty.) Ordered 2 eggs up, bacon, rye toast, home fries and coffee. The coffee was perfectly, blisteringly hot, just bitter enough to remind you that you're in a greasy spoon but not diesel-fuel sludgy. The bacon was thick, and there was a ton of it. The eggs were obviously fresh and perfectly fried. The toast was buttered but not sopping, the home fries soft and salty. Local news on the TV, which I normally hate but accept as part of this environment, and after some weather so they were hamming it up a bit. The cook came out and greeted me in an easy and satisfying, "two guys saying hi," sort of way. Grand total: 7.50, and 20 minutes. I walked out into a warmer day than I'd walked in from. The Club is my favorite diner in Lowell. There are some pros and cons to any diner, but the overall food quality at the Club has been consistently the best for a number of years. -- The omelets are HUGE and delectable. -- The coffee is always decent. Now, if you aren't a coffee drinker, or a fan of diners, this might mean nothing to you-- but good diner coffee can be difficult to find. The Club has *the best* coffee I've ever had in a diner. (Yes, that means it's WAY better than Dunkin' Donuts and other truck stop coffee, but not on par w/Starbucks obviously.) -- The service is prompt, and the place small enough that you can easily get the waitress' attention if you need a refill. Downsides are that they open and close early on Sat. morning (11:15 AM). No sleeping in if you want the best omelets in Lowell. read more

So I ate here a couple months ago. Food was great, waitress was wicked nice, and it was a nice stop after bar hopping for some food before heading home. Though, I'm now really scared to go back to this place. Maybe it was the loud drunken group behind me that never learned what an "inside voice" was. Maybe it was the brawl that errupted behind me five minutes later between two guys. Maybe it was that said brawl happening in the booth behind me that pushed me into the table, and freaked me out to the point where I hid behind other patrons in the restaurant that did it. Maybe it was the subsequent swarm of Lowell Police officers that arrived to respond to it. I don't know. But all I can say is if I ever go back, it's going to be when all the drunk people are far, far away. But if I do, I hope I get that same waitress because watching her yell at that group of drunk people and subduing the situation was probably one of the most epic things I've ever seen. I have driven past this diner for years and I have always wondered about it. I may have had a burger here back in 1999 but I'm not sure...anyways yesterday I stopped in for breakfast. I had the Grandslam....One egg..any style...2 bacon strips, 2 sausage links, one pancake. It was decent...not blow away... it was adequate for what I payed...$7.00. Hey......can't beat that price..everything is reasonably priced. I liked that. It's really a Lowell institution/landmark and they have been there since the 1930s. I love that. Service: The waitress was EXTREMELY nice...just so cool and easy to talk to...fun.. we are both MA people and had funny insights on society. It was a really good time. I came here after a night of drinks on a saturday night/sunday morning around 2:30am and it was awesome. All I really wanted was sweet and sour shrimp, but nothing was open. Club Diner satisfied my shrimp needs! The wait staff were super friendly, fast and lovely, a pretty no frills type of place. There are some characters in there, like the 14 year old girl insulting a gay red head by calling him a fire crotch (I had to ask since when is that an insult?). Anyways, the menu has a lot of different food items such as burgers, fries, breakfast, SHRIMP, etc you get the point. It comes out to you quick and delicious. The closest place to get a quick bite to eat if you've been downtown after-hours. Food "67" and the Lumberjack special is what I always get here. The "67" is a sandwich, and I usually like mine with sausage, ham, bacon, egg, and home-fries. I don't mean on the side. I mean everything IN-A-BURGER. Don't knock it till you try it. It's delicious. The Lumberjack special is pretty standard breakfast material. Eggs, meats, toast, home fries. I just like it because it has a little of everything, and it's pretty cheap. Atmosphere One thing I've always noticed is on the trimming above, there's a loooong set of group photos. How does one get on this elite-photo list, and what's it about? Staff There's always the same waitress every single time I come here (late). She's tough as nails without any milk, but she's actually pretty nice if you're nice. I guess she had to develop a persona vs. rude drunks and dine-n-dashers/chew-n-screwers. Very prompt, and won't forget your order. Then you realize she's the only one running about 10 tables at any given time - and your mind is blown. Final Thoughts Even though I've gotten runny eggs on my designer clothes, witnessed a fight break out, and watched people cry in here - I'd probably come back for the breakfast food. I visit this diner exactly once a year, and it never disappoints. My yearly tradition involves waiting for my wife to finish running the Bay State Marathon, and passing the time by shoving eggs, bacon, toast and pancakes down my gullet (all of which are top-notch as far as diners are concerned). For me, the true test of the quality of any diner revolves around pie. Though I have never been impressed with the selection here, all the pie I've had has been great. If you're ever in the area, you should check this place out, even if you're not trying to pass 3 hours by slamming food into your face hole. read more

The last and final racist experience I hope I will ever have at Club Diner in downtown Lowell. After a night of drinking (water and a whiskey sour, that's one whiskey sour so I wasn't drunk or belligerent), I was waiting for my uber ride by the gas station near club diner. I suddenly needed to pee and my uber ride was 10 mins away. I asked my brother in law William (who is White) where the nearest bathroom was and he told me I could go to club diner and pee because HE HAS DONE IT BEFORE. I wasn't sure because I had boycotted club diner after previous experience of feeling uncomfortable every time I was there because of how I was treated and also because fox news was usually on the screen and the vibe was just that. But I was desperate so... I went up to the counter at club diner with my brother Martin and asked the waitress who has served me in the past if I could please use the bathroom and she flat out told me there was no bathroom. Clearly she was lying, so I asked her where the nearest bathroom was and she said the Worthen (which was closed as it was 2am). My brother simply said I'll buy something so I can use it and she said no, but at that point I was disappointed and knew she clearly did not want me to use it so I left. Because I still needed to pee (I'm human), while I waited for my uber, my brother went back and said he'll pay for a full meal if I can just pee, no one has to make the meal he'll just pay so I can pee. He was told I couldn't because it's only for paying customers (that is the mythical bathroom that did not previously exist), so if he paid only he could use it. He asked again and she walked away without answering. Luckily 5 mins later the uber arrived. My brother in law wanted to go back and let her know he had used the facilities before without paying by simply coming in and asking to use the bathroom (sometimes after a night of drinking) but at that point I was just disappointed. My expectations where already low but after tonight, it was just shocking to have my previous perceptions of the place confirmed. My brother, sister, and brother in law were there for me and stood up for me but I'm still so shocked by how different I'm treated based on the hue of my skin...still. read more

The Club Diner is a real diner for real working-class people. No pretense, no frills, just hearty, simple food. I went for the first time today and got the Diner Mites, a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a grilled English muffin that comes with a side of home fries. While it came out exactly as expected, I like my home fries crispy and these were not, though they were still good. There were only a few people there at 11 a.m., so I was served quickly and my food came right off the grill. The coffee was a good light roast with flavor and was absolutely piping hot. I only give 3 stars because I havent sampled enough of the menu to be able to say more. I'm new to the city and am trying to make my way to all the local diners in the downtown area. Another good experience here and I would definitely upgrade to 4 stars. If you want to try it out, I suggest going early. Though they are open late enough to serve some lunch items, they close by early afternoon. read more

Can't beat this family owned Lowell institution. The breakfast is solid and served anytime, I believe. They offer beans as a substitute for homefries which is bonus points with this guy. The lunches are solid diner food. The steak fries are simple yet everything you need, sometimes I go just for them. A nice turkey club and a Pepsi is in order every now and then too. Being born and raised in Lowell i have seen it transform for the better over the years. Its now become a bustling daytime activity and tourist destination. However, its equally as good to see some of the steadfast landmarks deeply rooted in the city through the thick and thin years havent changed . Club Diner is one of them. I used to come here for post-bar hopping eats as its conveinently located next to the downtown bars, and hangover breakfasts, as it was genrally always convientently located near my home. I hadnt been here in six years when I decided on the spur of the moment to have a late breakfast the other day (non-hangover). At first i was put off that they're cash-only. Well, i guess i was more put off by the fact that i forgot that, walked in, then had to walk out to the nearest ATM. I also forgot that they close at 11:30 AM when i sat down at 11:25. D'oh! They were cool tough. They let me put in an order under the wire and told me to take my time eating. As i sat there i had this feeling that i was transported to a simpler time. I never really thought to take in the full ambiance of this place in my youthful drunken/hungover states. Not much has changed here since they opened 1938, or at least appears that way. The seating, the stools, the breakfast counter, all with a chrome edged and sleek old school feel (Think Marty McFly walking in to Lou's cafe only with less flash and much cozier) The bacon, eggs, ham and homefies breakfast with coffee and OJ in a place like this is something to be experienced. My robust omlette was filled end to end with cheese with full stems of broccoli nestled moderalty throughout. The serving of homefries was decent and the coffee mug was large. The only thing that interferred with this experience (and almost my appetite) was Fox News being broadcast on the TV. The "should David Letterman be fired and how-this-is-really-Barack-Obama's-fault tie in" report almost made me puke the toast ,eggs, ham, homefries and all in my mouth a little. Yes, ewww. LOVE this place!! I have no idea what they put in their home fry potato things, but they are by far the best Ive had!!! Servers all remember us by name, and greet us, talk to us. The owner is friendly. I cant say for sure but I think its a father-son-grandfather owned place. We go during the week so we always see the son. The meatloaf is the best!!! So is the chicken noodle soup. One time they had this macaroni-pepper-onion kind of soup that was awesome! Coffee is always good and its cheap. Very good prices! I would rather go here then IHOP or McDonalds.... I love how the place looks authentic. Not poser diner decor. My husband and I love dinners, but this place is hands down the best! read more

My friend, who has patronized this place along with family and friends, needed to use the bathroom last night and was told there wasn't one (she's black). Her brother in law (who's white) was allowed to use it. Her brother (black) offered to pay for a meal (even though they didn't need to prepare it) just so she could use the bathroom but they declined. First time here and would not recommend. Single waitress trying to service everyone and the wait time for a couple of eggs can be 30 minutes before they even take your order.
