I got there 10 minutes after it opened and there were already two regulars there. I sat in a booth, though counter seating is plentiful. The owners work the place and are the friendliest people. I started with a coffee and water. The coffee was excellent -- not acidic, not watery, full bodied flavor. I ordered an Irish Benny and a side of crispy bacon. Absolutely delicious! The muffin was toasted to perfection and the eggs were just liquid enough to blend well with the hollandaise. While I was there 2 or 3 people came in -- a mix of old and new customers. Came here for breakfast with my girlfriend at 10am on Saturday. The place was almost full, but we were quickly seated. The servers were attentive and friendly, I never had to ask for a refill. The only downside was the wait to get our food was a bit long. There seemed to be only one person cooking. I didn't mind too much though, as the atmosphere was great and I enjoyed my time there. I was heading out from Boston with the family for a day of hiking in the White Mountains, and I was looking for a great breakfast option that was both open early (before 8 AM) and on the way. Cameo Diner looked like a fabulous option so we stopped by a little after 7 AM. From the outside the diner admittedly doesn't look like much. Inside it has a bunch of tables on one side and the long bar on the other, giving it that classic diner feel. The menu options also hearken back to that, consisting of breakfast staples like eggs and bacon, pancakes and french toast, and omelettes, and not straying too far from traditional flavors. I love omelettes and decided to try the Bomb-Lette, which came with shaved steak, salami, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and cheese. It came with the option of home fries or beans and a choice of toast. Beans seemed a bit odd to me for breakfast, and I love home fries, so I went with that, along with cinnamon raisin toast. First, let's talk about the omelette. Dang. To date myself a bit, the Bomb-lette was "da bomb!!" I mentioned earlier that the menu may be a bit simple, but there was nothing simple about the flavor of this omelette. The ingredients melded perfectly and were distributed nicely throughout the omelette, ensuring every bite was consistently delicious. It was definitely one of the better omelettes I have had in quite some time. The home fries had a nice flavor and were a nice mix of tender and crispy. I might have liked a little more seasoning, but they were quite good, and the salsa I stole from my son's Mexican omelette was delicious on them. I was pretty stoked getting buttered cinnamon raisin toast, and it was also delicious. Speaking of my son, he loved the Mexican omelet. So did my father-in-law, who added both jalapenos and sausage to it. My daughter had the blueberry pancakes with bacon, and I have never seen her eat pancakes so quickly. They were big, blueberry hearty, and delicious. Everyone in our rather large group (we found a nice combo booth in the corner near the front door) thoroughly enjoyed their breakfast. Cameo Diner definitely has the mom and pop feel. The service was fabulous, as it was friendly, attentive, and fast. It definitely has a local feel, evident by the stares our car got as we pulled into the parking lot (we were clearly out of towners!). The quality of the food and the portions were great, and the prices were also quite good. I was very happy with my breakfast, and there is no doubt Cameo Diner will be our go to breakfast spot anytime we are heading north from Boston. read more

Wow, what a find! This tiny, greasy spoon diner is well worth it. The father/son team of cooks whip up your breakfast fresh in front of you. My bf and I both ordered eggs benny - mine with hash, his the triple special (ham, sausage end bacon). The eggs were cooked perfectly - solid whites and runny yolk. The hash was tasty as well. The home fries were simply potatoes cooked in the drippings of the meats on the grill. The flavor was good. I personally would have preferred them well done with onions. We later heard someone order them that way, so go for it if thats your thing too. The hollandaise sauce was flavorful but my only complaint was that it wasn't mixed well - we could see the butter on top. But the entire staff was so friendly and chatty it more than made up for any shortcomings. We will definitely go back. read more

My husband became ill after eating here and the man has an industrial strength digestive tract. So why two whole stars? Cameo is a one block walk away from my grandparent's house. H and I walked over and realized that the small, free parking lot beside the diner is actually for patrons. Haha! Once you walk in, you'll find that you need to seat yourself. It's usually packed regardless of when you come in, so be sure to snag the first (or second) table or booth you see! I don't quite remember what my H ordered but I remember ordering a bootmill (which is oh-so-Lowell). It was good... but I remember having better. I liked that my egg was nice and gooey. My girlfriend and I are avid diner goers and are always looking to try new places. This one had great reviews and was on our way to NH so we figured we'd give it a go. The wait staff was very pleasant. Loads of smiles and pleasantries and they'd surely get a higher rating if that were all I reviewed. The food was mediocre at best and sparse to boot. I ordered a cheese and sausage omelette with home fries. The sausage in the omelette was not cut into bite sized pieces but left quite large making it cumbersome. The home fries I had requested to be crisped. They were not and the portion brought was severely under sized. In fact I count no matter re than 10 pieces of potato. Two bite full to be exact. The pricing was on the higher side for breakfast as well. I'll may give them another shot as I never discount an establishment based on one visit read more

This was my first time trying this place and I'm not from the area. I went with 5 other friends and they let us move to a bigger table as soon as it was available :) I really like their hospitality. They let me use sriracha even though they said it stains their plates . I promised to not put it on their plates and they were very friendly and nice . I have lived in Lowell my entire life and I have eaten at EVERY diner in the city. Cameo not only has the best food of all the diner's, they treat their customers great and the waitstaff if very attentive. I have eaten here over 50 times and I can assure you the PERSON who wrote the negative review is probably one of those miserable people with nothing better to do. Probably ate here once. Get a clue. My husband and I just moved across the river and decided to walk across the Aiken Street Bridge to check out the Cameo diner. What a gem this place is. It has the feel of an authentic old school breakfast spot. Everyone was so warm and friendly checking in with us several times to make sure the food was great and it certainly was! We even overheard another customer saying to the owner that one of his favorite things in the world is the Eggs Benedict! "It's all in the sauce" was the response and I will have to try it next time. Ignore chump reviews like ones from Frank, guy doesn't know what hes talking about. Read some of his other reviews and they were just laughable, that's his kind of taste he has I guess. ^Edit: Removed the original part where I expressed my opinion of him being a chode and avoiding all his recommended places with his bad taste. I'd rather express my opinion on how great Cameo really is and giving it the praise it deserves. Lived in Lowell my WHOLE life, been around the city and back and Cameo is hands down one of, if not THEE, top 3 places in this city. Great, cheerful, super friendly staff and awesome food in a timely manner for a hot spot breakfast place. Owner always hooks it up, I cannot say I've had one bad experience there (as long as you don't count waiting to upwards of 10-15 min, which at a breakfast place is not bad at alllll) Love the Pancakes, famous Cody's beans, and the never disappointing Bacon Boot Mill. Only downside is they close so early! But I guess when you serve such a great product and are so successful you don't need to stay open till 2-3:00 like other breakfast places.
