I can best describe IV Seasons as a cozy, popular, neighborhood tavern which serves delicious Portuguese style food. It's casual and friendly. The menu is not huge, but it has enough for you to be satisfied. Beverages include beer and soft drinks, a small selection of wines, many of which are Portuguese, and sangria, red and white. Note that the prices of the wines and the sangria are not on the menu. We ordered the red sangria, which comes by the glass, and if I recall is approximately $9.45/glass. It's delicious and quite strong. Our appetizer was the cod cakes, which could just as easily be described as "cod cake tots" due to their size, but they're also priced "tot size" at $1.75 each. The Portuguese style meals are typically chicken, beef, or various types of seafood, generally served with a tomato based sauce with onions and peppers, on your choice of pasta or rice. Potatoes will also come with some meals. Our dinners came out VERY quickly, just about the time we were finished with the codfish tots. Dinner plus the appetizer and sangria came to about $45 each adding tax and tip, a reasonable amount for the quality of the food and atmosphere. read more

Food was excellent. Dining experience was loud with people yelling their conversation to one another. Imagine people at the bar yelling for a number to come up in Keno? Screaming guests made this dining experience very unpleasant. Next time I'll consider a rake out. read more

What a great neighborhood bistro. Portuguese flair, nice Portuguese wines & ports add to a creative menu. The appetizer was very good, flavorful and enough for 2. Portuguese stew was scallop shrimp fish and potatoes in a light red sauce. We sat at the bar and had great service. It's a local restaurant, nice group of customers at bar, we were warmly greeted. Hidden Gem of Lowell. IV Seasons Restaurant on Central Street. Been over a decade since ive been here and I'm kicking myself in the butt for that. Little neck clams were similar (if not better) than the old Norm's Whitehorse in Methuen. Homemade Italian dressing for the salad was best I've had in long time. The service was outstanding. Our server was top tier. He was very informative about each question on the dishes and the Portuguese wines they offer. Bartender was awesome and they didn't skip a beat and worked seamlessly together. The atmosphere was cool, calm and friendly with locals playing cards in the back and very friendly people all around. Small place, but not overly loud. Small parking lot right out front and it's right off the Lowell Connector. We got all the food pictured (sorry, pictures are awful but added descriptions) plus drinks (2 glasses of that great pour of Portuguese wine and the most delicious Espresso Martini, and a Beer) with a garden salad and mozzarella sticks to go for $130, not including tip. It's not a "fine dining" establishment...but if you are looking for great "home-cooked" food, great service and don't want to put a hole in your wallet, then check this place out! read more

With an atmosphere and openness that feels like "Cheers", this is a great place to grab a solid meal and a beer after work that's affordable and friendly. We went no a Monday around 6 pm and found most people gathered around the bar, telling stories and laughing. At first it seemed like they all knew each other and gathered there regularly, but once they started leaving, we realized that this could have been their first time meeting- so it's obviously quite a friendly and accepting place to hang out. We decided to sit at one of the few small tables in the main area around the bar. The first thing to hit my tastebuds was the Portuguese appetizer and WOW.. what a great first impression!! It's served very similarly to tapas with a few chunks of slightly spicy marinated pork and Linguiça (portuguese sausage) along with black and green olives as well as an interesting white cheddar that leans toward the bite of a bleu. When the large bakery rolls arrived, I realized that I could have made a meal out of just the appetizer and rolls! Yummy!! My husband went into flavor nirvana over the seafood stew which was served in a tomato flavored broth seemingly cooked inside the same stew pot it was served in. I ordered one of the daily specials, which was pork & sausage stir fry. I was hoping for a little more of that amazing marinade from the appetizer, but it was a different seasoning that was still quite tasty. I went on the server's recommendation to get it over rice, and ended up with a bowl of dinner that I could only finish half of! (I'm sure part of that was due to my devouring the appetizer and roll up front!) While there isn't a huge selection of beer - just some basic domestic hoppy brews, the food is really outstanding for the price! We didn't even get the steak- but you can get a 14 oz steak for $11!! What a wonderful find! The staff was very friendly and attentive. Quaint bar and dining area with beautiful wood everywhere. I had the piping hot seafood stew (Caldeirada) which was great! My wife had the lobster, shrimp & scallop scampi special which was delicious. Served with a basket of amazing Portuguese rolls from Winter Hill Bakery in Somerville. Big portions allowed us to bring home leftovers for dinner. Topped off our lunch with warm, moist carrot cake! We will definitely be back! read more

Hands-down one of the best espresso martinis in the area. They have portuguese food options mixed with the american pub fare and irish feel. Very quaint, small, cozy hang-out location for locals. They have karaoke every Friday afternoon, which is generally a blast and the line isn't too long if you're a big fan of singing more than one song. Even the bartenders sing! This place is small, but cozy. It's got exposed brickwork which is always nice, and the bar is made out of half barrels. There's a few tables when you walk in, and the more on the other side of the bar. There's also some tables outside. They make good use of the space. The best thing about this place is the food. It's pretty good, and surprisingly cheap. I got a cheeseburger and fries for 6.95, but you can also get a fisherman's platter for around 10 bucks, with decent portion sizes The menu has typical bar fare, but they also offer Portuguese food like linguica, bifanas, and seafood dishes. It's nice to have some different options. This is a casual place to go for some beers and cheap, but good food. read more

There isn't that much on the menu, just a few popular Portuguese dishes. The food was good the prices were low. There's nothing to rave about, but it's good for lunch. They have a couple tables and chairs on the sidewalk outside. Tip: it's on a one way street off Central Street right in downtown Lowell. You can park, for free, on either side of the street. Feel a little ashamed, I've lived in Lowell all my life and never been to this hidden jewel. Apps are amazing, the food was amazing, very fresh. This restaurant isn't in the best area and isn't all that impressive at first glance, but the food is out of this world. I highly recommend that you go multiple times and work your way through the menu--it isn't that big. The specials rotate, which is nice, because the lamb is awesome. At first glance, IV Seasons looks like a bar where everybody has known everybody else for years. That doesn't mean they won't welcome you in, though, and it's worth going because the food is top-notch. I brought my parents who were in from out-of-town, and we shared the Portuguese appetizer (sausage, pork, cheese and olives) and some red wine. Those were good, but the seafood entrees were amazing. I got the seafood stew, my dad got the Mariscata, and my mom got baked haddock. They also have a good selection of non-seafood items, and a specials board with some other interesting options. I'm not a fan of squid so I thought I'd have to pick it out of the seafood stew, but they make everything to order, so they just made mine with more of everything else, which was great. My parents liked theirs, but I think my dad was secretly jealous that he didn't get the stew too :) Our waiter, Nick, whose family owns the place, was basically serving the entire restaurant all by himself. Granted, it's a small place, and about half of it is taken up by the bar, but it was still impressive. He was running around the whole time, and we didn't have to wait all that long for anything, but he still had time to give us good food and drink recommendations. When I said I'd have to bring my wife back sometime, he gave me a takeout menu so she could find something she liked before we even came in (she's allergic to shellfish, so that narrows things down a bit for her). Even with all that fancy food, it wasn't even all that expensive. I've had seafood stew at other places that was about the same size and similar ingredients and it cost twice as much. So I hate to do this. Food is still good. Problem was with the management. We ordered 5 scallops wrapped in bacon and 5 shrimp wrapped in bacon. What came was 10 scallops. We didn't really realize until a few scallops in. We ate them & I asked "can we order 5 shrimp since we got 10 scallops instead of 5 and 5" manager comes over and says " well the waiter thought you said 5 scallops each" I say nicely "awww ok no we said 5 shrimp and 5 scallops" manager says well scallops cost more so I can't comp your new shrimp even though I never asked for comp, just wanted the shrimp (which they SHOULD have comped). Poor business practice especially when thy are both $2.75 each on the menu. They took 6$ off but after a lot of hassle when they were wrong. I am a foodie. I am fussy. This is a gem. Please have the fish cakes. They are homemade crispy and light with creamy from potatoes which I suspect they make so light and fluffy by using a ricer with the potatoes. The lobster, shrimp, scallop scampi is wonderful. Great place! Don't be put off by the slightly odd location nestled between Central and Gorham. The family that runs this place is top notch. And the food is amazing, especially considering the prices. The only downside, if you can call it that, is its is often crowded. My wife and I like to sit at the bar but that's often hard real estate to come by. We can usually get a table though and my wife can't get her steak tips fast enough! I am really surprised by the reviews here saying the food is good, but the atmosphere is terrible. I found the exact opposite. I liked the local feel. It was crowded on a Friday night. Everyone at the bar having a great time. After we sat down, it took awhile to get a beer. We both ordered from the specials, my husband ordered the sirloin, med rare, FF and rice, I ordered the shrimp and scallop scampi. We should have known we were in trouble as soon as the "bread" was put in front of us, day old, cold Fantini bulkie rolls! They brought our dinner, and it looked as bad as it tasted. My husbands steak was gray, with some charcoal marks on it, cooked medium well, no flavor, no seasonings, tough, better steak comes in a Dunkin Donuts breakfast sandwich! French fries were potato slices that were attempted to be fried, but they were a pile of greasy, limp, potatoes. My "scampi" was actually an alfredo. Scampi to me is a garlic,butter white wine sauce. They put a congealed, heavy cheese sauce on a mound of pasta with three little shrimp and three scallops. At least the seafood was edible. It looked like if you were a regular, then you got good service from the waitstaff, otherwise, they paid no attention to you. Have taken wife there for dinner three times in the last ~2 months. Always went on a weekday and ate in the downstairs bar - apparently upstairs dining room is only open on weekends. It's very definitely a neighborhood hangout but the patrons are friendly, as is the service. Downstairs bar has tables for four and is a bit noisy (brick interior) but not too bad. Menu prices are very reasonable but I can only comment on two of the dishes. Every time we go there my wife and I both have the calvadeiros (Portuguese seafood stew) which is excellent. It comes in an individual metal pot with a generous quantity of seafood in a spicy tomato broth. In fact it's so darn good we have yet to try anything else. On our last visit we took along our daughter, who ordered the fisherman's platter. She said it was very good and cleaned her plate. Dinner for the three of us including a beer, tax and tip was less than $50. Getting there is a little tricky, since Central St. is a one-way into the main drag. If you're heading north on Gorham turn right onto Union St (2nd street past the courthouse) - go to the end and turn left onto Central. Four Seasons is a block and a half ahead on your left. The atmosphere might not be upper crust but the food is good, plentiful and cheap. read more

This is a place my wife & I have dined at many times. She is Portuguese and we have taken her family here for its Portuguese fare. It is a neighborhood kind of place with what appears to be regulars at the bar, which fills the middle of the space. We like that. Tonight there were a bunch of tables pushed together for an extended family with numerous young, well behaved but lively children. We like that too. This place is a hidden gem! Grew up in Lowell and always wanted to try it but never did. Now I'm sorry I hadn't sooner! Came in with my boyfriend on a rainy wed. night and sat at the bar as we usual do. The place is cozy with a real hometown feel - makes you want to become a regular. The bartender was very attentive and friendly, asked our names and introduced himself (rare today), made us feel welcome. No wonder they've been in business for over 20 years. The food was awesome, I recommend the Steak of the House with boiled potatoes. The Chicken-Broccoli-Shrimp-Ziti will be my next try (looked mouth watering). Clean, family owned restaurant/bar with good hearty food, good prices, specials, TVs, darts, keno and great service. Will definitely be coming back. Great local spot. And they do take-out! I went to this restaurant last week after passing by it many times and am i glad that I went. My wife and I both had seafood and it was really good. I had the stew which was loaded with seafood and had a nice red broth. The place was crowded and we sat at the bar which was loaded with regulars. We both found them very friendly and I talked to quite a few of them. In fact we got our dinner recommendations from them and they certainly steered us in the right direction.
