Fujiwara opened in Dublin's Ulferts Center back in September 2019, replacing Osaka Ramen. E and I came here for lunch on 10/01/2019. We walked in at 1 pm and the place was busy with lunch goers. We were greeted and seated at the last available table. The renovated interior looked bright and welcoming. There was a newly installed counter island in the middle. That and the half a dozen or so tables provided enough seating for dine-in customers. There were a couple TVs mounted on the walls. Their logo was prominently displayed on one of the walls. We were served by one of owners, a friendly Chinese lady. I asked and was told that they are not affiliated with famed tsukemen shop by the same name in Hiroshima, Japan. She also told me that her business partner spent more than a decade learning his craft at a Japanese restaurant in New York. Their menu featured five ramen options plus close to a dozen appetizers. E and I each got a bowl of their Kuro Tonkotsu ($13). I also got a mini Chashu Bowl ($4.5) on the side. Our food came pretty quickly. They were nicely presented on wooden trays bearing their logo. The Kuro Tonkotsu came with thick noodles by default (you have the option of thin or thick noodles). Accompaniments included two thick slices of chashu, nori, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, kikurage mushrooms, a seasoned egg (halved), and finely chopped scallions. The broth, topped with their black garlic sauce, was thick in body and robust in taste. It dressed the noodles really well. The egg was perfect. It was marinated in a slightly sweet soy brine and had a very creamy yolk. The chashu was tasty but a bit dry. The rest of the accompaniments were fine. The chashu bowl was generously portioned and pretty tasty. Chopped chashu, half of a ramen egg, pickled ginger, and scallions topped a good size bowl of rice. I liked the fact the they didn't overdo it with the sauce. Service we received was good. The lady boss and another staff member checked on us a few times during our meal. The total, with T/T, was about $40. Overall, I thought the quality and value of the food were good and much better than its predecessor. I would put them ahead of the nearby Jinya in both categories. Delish ramen in a busy strip mall. Black garlic ramen is the way to go. Wasn't incredibly garlicky but the flavors in the broth worked. So much umami without being unnecessarily oily. Despite the tapered bowl, there was a lot of food. Noods were chewy, chashu was thick and tender, eggs done right. My fave is the bamboo...crunchy and marinated which is just the way I like 'em. Fujiwara is the new Ramen shop to open in the Tri-Valley. Fujiwara takes over the space vacated by the long time Osaka Ramen. Still in the soft opening stages the menu is limited. The restaurant décor is almost exactly the way Osaka Ramen left it with the exception of the two new TV's on the wall. Because we wanted to try more flavorful soup bases my wife and I ordered the Spicy Tonkatsu and the Black Garlic Ramen. Black Garlic Ramen, lots of toppings, excellent chewy noodles, tender chashu. Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen, lots of toppings, chewy noodles, tender chashu, but the soup base was not spicy at all. I actually thought they delivered the wrong bowl and asked the server. The server confirmed it was the spicy tonkatsu. Wound up adding a lot of the chili powder that was on the table. The fried Calamari was 5 stars excellent. Not many patrons yet, service was good. Plenty of parking in the Ulferts center. Fujiwara is better option then the previous Osaka but there is room for improvement. read more

I came here by myself on a Saturday night after a gig. I ordered the Fujiwara Ramen and fried calamari; the calamari came out really quickly and the ramen came out shortly after. I really liked the calamari! It was perfectly cooked, the calamari was fresh, and the dipping sauce was really good. The ramen also did not disappoint - creamy and rich broth, chewy noodles, and flavorful chashu. The portions were also really generous, so I was super duper stuffed. It's a nice place to have dinner by yourself or with friends, and the waitstaff is really friendly and nice. Will definitely be back if I'm in the area! read more

My coworker and I came here on Thursday past 12 and we we got seated immediately. They took a while to get our order. I got the original ramen and my coworker got the black sesame garlic ramen. My ramen was just okay, tasted like any other ramen I've tasted. The pork was really fatty but that was okay haha my coworker thought the black garlic ramen was okay but it was really really oily. The ramen you get for your money is good. Unfortunately, the black garlic ramen was so different from all the other black garlic ramen's ever, it seemed wrong. The second order of ramen was the original ramen--that was a huge serving of ramen and very yummy egg with runny yolk, nicely done. BUT--At the end of eating, I could see the 1cm height of oil floating on the top of my bowl, this left an unpleasant feel afterwards. The staff was standard, took the order and brought the food soon. I have been here two times now and both times I had pretty good ramen and good service. I've been looking for a good ramen place to be my go to on this side of the bay and I think this is it. I've tries the shiro ramen (original tonkostu) and shio (salt) ramen. Both came with a good amount of toppings and a lot of noodles. I've had to take leftovers home both times. I like that they have more than just the regular tonkostu most places have been serving lately. I will need to come back and try the shoyu ramen. read more

Definitely not the first place I'd choose for ramen in the EB but also not a terrible option if you're in the area. Came Tuesday around 7:30pm and it was dead. Not surprising considering the area it's in and the day of week. AKA TONKOTSU (SPICY): 7/10 - noodles: you can choose between thick and thin. i got the thick noodles. they were decently al dente. not the worst showing. - egg: yay, you get an entire egg (which is more than i can say for some places) but it was a tad overcooked. not the biggest deal breaker but will also note that it was plain/unseasoned. no marinade of any sort, which i know matters to some. - broth: i have a high spice tolerance but this was arguably still mild at best. i added the spice powder they had on the table (the type you use for udon, so clearly not the same which muddled flavors). broth was rich, not nauseatingly so, but it created an unappetizing film on top if you didn't touch your bowl for a couple minutes. first time seeing that at a ramen joint. mine was also a tad on the colder side when it arrived. CHICKEN KARA-AGE: 6/10 - batter was pretty light but it had no seasoning so the chicken lacked flavor overall if you don't use the mayo We were the only table in the restaurant so of course service was decent. Came to Dublin with my family to visit my sister and found this place on yelp to appease their tastes for asian food. Didn't seem to be that many ramen places nearby so my expectations weren't that high. I was pleasantly surprised! I ordered the spicy ramen which came with a soft boiled egg (they call it tamago which is confusing because tamago is something else) and some pork slices. The pork was tender, and the egg was delicious. The broth wasn't too heavy and had good flavor but contained a giant plop of spicy sauce on the bottom. The flavor and texture of the sauce wasn't great so I avoided mixing it into the soup and it was fine. My family members liked their ramen too but wished there was more meat. Pretty decent place! I have to give Fujiwara a round of applause.. it's the best ramen I've had in a really long time, and by far the best I've had in the East Bay. I consider myself a bit of a ramen connoisseur. I've tried all the famous spots: HiroNori, Santouka, Orenchi, Ramen Nagi, Ramen Dojo to name a few. When I moved to the East Bay from San Jose, I was a bit heartbroken to move far away from the best ramen shops in the Bay Area... until I found Fujiwara! I ordered the Aka Tonkotsu, which seems to basically be their basic tonkotsu (pork) ramen broth, but with a side of hot chili oil. When you order, you can choose thick or thin noodles and add extra toppings as well. I chose thin noodles and I added an extra egg accidentally (it already comes with one) but I'm not mad about it: the eggs were perfectly cooked with a jammy center. The broth was super delicious, creamy and rich without being too salty or gritty. The hot chili oil was a nice touch on the side without being overly spicy. The thin noodles were perfectly cooked and slightly chewy. But by far the shining star was the pork belly. It's the best I've had at any ramen place, including the famous ones I mentioned earlier. They gave 2 thick slices which were extremely tender and flavorful, no tough pieces at all! Even more impressive is that I ordered it through Doordash, which can really compromise the quality of food. It didn't diminish it here (or maybe it's THAT good, that in person, it's even better if that's possible.) Everything was perfectly packaged and labeled, and the broth was still hot, even though I live 20 mins away. Best of all, the portion was so large that I had leftovers and those were amazing too. I didn't realize they had Hong Kong style cafe food and because the Baked Seafood Rice was so good... I forgot to take a picture. I only eat Baked Seafood Rice usually and I have to say it's top notch. The cream was on par with Hong Kong and there were mussels and scallops. My only complaint is it's pricey a nearly $18 whereas the quantity was a bit small which meant the ingredients were on the light side. This is the best ramen I've found in my area. I recommend the black garlic, it's pretty much to die for. The place is always busy, and one time I was turned away at the door because they had run out of noodles! If that's not a sign of good food, what is?? The service is pretty fast though sometimes I do have to get up and ask for simple things, such as water refill. Service is very important to me and although the staff is fast, they don't go out of their way to be friendly. But hey, sometimes it's all about turning over the tables and not about making friends with every customer that comes through the door. The ramen will keep me coming back anyway, so I don't have much room to complain. The restaurant looks clean, is pretty small but in a cozy-ish way, and manages to never seem too loud, even when every table is full. Four stars! read more

Great bowls of ramen with rich tasting broth! What an improvement over the previous ramen restaurant. The menu offers a better selection of ramen and dishes, plus their dishes are made well. We tried the Black Garlic Ramen and the Tonkatsu Ramen. Both had flavorful broth, chewy noodles, tender pork and a perfectly cooked egg. My husband did comment that the Black Garlic was just an added oil and wished there were garlic pieces. The chicken karage came with large chunks of crispy well seasoned chicken thighs. We really enjoyed the gyoza with perfect crispy bottoms. I prefer pan fried over completely deep fried dumplings. I like this ramen place and it's a great addition to the Ulfert Center! read more

We were greeted by bustling, welcoming staff at Fujiwara. This ramen joint has a great intimate atmosphere without being super cramped. Their decor is also on point. Nice and clean without being too "modern". Bathrooms are also clean, nice smelling. Our ramen floored us. Our first ramen was the black garlic ramen. It has a deep, rich, and complex broth base. The pork looked just beautiful and it fell apart in an appropriate manner. Slightly smoky mushrooms and a lovely ramen egg which was slightly sweet but worked. It tasted like they marinated it in sugar/soy sauce/mirin. We also tried their Aka ramen (spicy). It was appropriately spiced and really didn't need anything added to it to feel complete. During a second visit, we had the Fujiwara and Shiro ramen, along with a pair of their pork buns. Definitely avoid the pork buns - not worth the price or taste. They're fine, just too expensive. The Shiro ramen was very dense with a creamy stock, and the Fujiwara was a great overall balance of flavors. I look forward to stopping by again if we're in the mood for ramen! They were definitely pretty busy, but it helped build our appetite as we waited and it was a Friday night. I ordered the Black Garlic Ramen with thin noodle and I was super pleased! *Note, you can also request to have thick noodles, which is the regular noodles that ramen is usually served with. I wanted something a little different from my norm so opted for such. I found the broth to be flavorful and it really hit the spot. The bowl was also pretty deep and very filling! My only wish would be if they had an option to add-in corn, but there was no corn on the menu (but let's be real here, that's clearly just a personal preference not a necessity). My friend ordered the spicy ramen and she was also really pleased with her choice! If you're not a fan of anything spicy, I would stray away from this one. While I personally do love spicy foods, I felt like the broth on that version to a bit too overwhelming, but it could've been my tastebuds! Overall, really diggin' Fujiwara and would definitely return. They not only served up some hearty bowls of ramen, but they had really good service. This ramen place isn't too bad. I love ramen, so I always enjoy trying places nearby. Fujiwara is located downstairs in the Koi Palace shopping center. When I arrived, there was a small line. The shop isn't that big, there's booth seating in the center and table seating on the edges. The staff is definitely busy and trying to be very attentive. Once we sat down,we looked at the menu and decided what we wanted. They only have 2 people out in front helping with cleaning the tables, waiting on tables and being a hostess. My husband and I got the Kuro and Shio Tonkotsu. Both were decent, one complaint I have is the portion sizes. I wish they were bigger but we enjoyed the broth. They gave us an option of thin or thick noodles, we love thick noodles but honestly, I didn't think they were as thick as they could be. Overall, it wasn't bad. This place does take credit card which is always good. They work efficiently and quickly. If you come during a lunch/dinner rush, the wait may be longer. read more

Fujiwara Ramen: A- According to the menu the soup was made with original pork broth with bonito fish dashi - I could definitely taste the bonito fish which added just a hint of bitterness without covering the tonkotsu base, it's obviously different from other ramen joints selling Tonkotsu based ramen. The egg noodles was on the medium-firm side, and the chashu was exceptionally good - it was marinated well and kind of sweet although the original pork taste was still there. The texture was perfect tenderness with slight grilled on the outside. The egg was well-seasoned and sort of sweet too. I have been spoiled by the ramen scene in the bay area, I typically don't go back to big names ramen restaurant coming from Japan like Mensho or Ramen Nagi, but those places usually have long lines and whenever I need a quick ramen fix, Fujiwara is definitely on top of the list. read more

Came here with a group of friends - it's a small/mid-sized restaurant, but it should be able to accommodate small groups. There's a middle section with some higher bar-type seating as well. It was fairly busy when we visited on a Friday evening, so we had to wait about 15 minutes outside. I love the simplicity of the menu! A handful of ramen options, some appetizers, and some drinks and dessert. It's additionally nice how you can choose the noodles (thick/thin) - my group was split between each option. I loved the thin noodles. I got the black garlic ramen here - while it was delicious in how overwhelming the garlic flavor was, the broth was also extremely heavy on the oil and richness and extremely filling (my friend was less able to stomach all the oiliness). The two pieces of cha-shu pork were also the fattiest pork I've ever had in any ramen bowl, though that meant it was also rather satisfying. (I can see how it would turn off others though.) The soft-boiled egg (a whole egg!) was perfectly done and amazing. In my opinion, it was also nice how the bowl wasn't filled with noodles - sometimes it gets overwhelming and tiresome for a lighter ramen eater like me. (There's also the option of extra noodles for $3, if it's not enough.) My boyfriend's fujiwara ramen (original pork broth with bonito dashi) was delicious and everything I wanted in soup and flavor - so much umami, with the savoriness of the dashi! Decent ramen spot that just opened up in the Dublin / Pleasanton area. Since this place is new, there can be a bit of a wait if you go during the normal dinner / lunch hours, but (!) they do have a happy hour menu that is a little cheaper on weekdays. Parking - This is in the same plaza as a lot of other Asian restaurants, but there's lots of spaces both in front of and behind the building. Wait Times - We went on a Friday night and had to wait about 15 - 20 minutes for a party of two. The ramen did take a little while to come out, but the place is new and had lots of people in it. Seating - There's about 8 bar seats and 8 tables that seat parties of max 6. Food - The ramen was alright. Nothing super amazing. But, they do let you choose between "thin" and "thick" noodles, which are essentially the same size, but the thin noodles are white and the thicker noodles are the yellow egg noodles. read more

Look out Ramen lovers! This place is the real deal! I'd say it's the best in tri valley if not the entire east bay. Their broth is so rich and without any msg or alike so you don't feel thirsty afterwards. The Fujiwara Bonito has the right balance between the pork flavor and fish (bonito) flavor and its kinda unique. Black garlic is as good as what I had in Japan. The noodle is just right for this kind of broth, a little firm (kinda like al dente in pasta) but if you prefer softer just let them know.
