This place was a little difficult to get to if you were not familiar with the area. Once we got there it was a little confusing on the parking. At first glance it looked like we were going to have a huge parking fee but the smaller print said that we get $2 parking if you validate at Fuego. If you are going, do not forget to do that. This restaurant is part of the Maya hotel and has a nice ambiance. The wait staff were very nice and drinks and food game relatively quickly. We also had live music on a Saturday evening for approximately 30 mins. The audio was a little loud but the musician was very talented. Unfortunately, since this was part of the hotel, there seamed to be a lot of younger drunk people that were a little rowdy but did not cause any trouble. The steak I ordered was a good but had too much going on with the plate. It came with an odd amount of corn that was spread across the entire plate. Weird but it did not detract from the good tasting steak and sauce. Overall the ambiance makes it a nice place to go with their inside/outside feel and decent lighting. Made reservations for dinner on a Saturday night and surprisingly there was openings. The host Rudy was super cool and helpful over the phone. They had our table ready when we arrived some minutes before our reservations. We ordered a round of drink to start off with. I had the alderwood and my wife tried the alma one. They were pretty solid. For food we ordered the quesadilla. It was good, not super impressed but good. Now for the main courses we ordered the salmon and the ropa vieja. The salmon plate was actually pretty tasty, over a bed of spinach and a puree of black beans. The ropa plate didn't impress me. The shredded beef didn't have much flavor to it, it was served over a tostada and a coleslaw type deal. The plantains were ok too. The views at this restaurant were amazing specially as the sun is setting between 6 pm and 8 pm. The filet minion is one of my favorite dishes and this restaurant did not disappoint. As for the crab cakes and calamari, they weren't the best I've had but still pretty good. The service was pretty decent, definitely some room for improvement but I cant complain. I would have preferred not to have served my own wine but not a big deal, I survived. The only thing I would probably have to complain about would be the bugs. I came here for the sunday brunch with bottomless mimosas for our anniversary. I made a reservation online. We got there around 11am, which is where the brunch starts. We got seated right along the water with an amazing view of the Pacific Ocean and the LBC. We loved everything about our experience here-the food, the atmosphere, the service. The food: The sunday brunch provides tons of food, and high quality, delicious food at that. There is a cold buffet with salads, ceviche, cheese, fruit, smoked salmon, and then some. There is also a dessert station with cheesecake, fruit tarts, mini pecan tarts, and more. In addition to all this food, you get to order an entree of your choice. I ordered the lobster, which was an additional $10, and totally worth it for 14 oz of delicious goodness. In additional to all this food, the mimosas were flowing nonstop, I actually had to be the one to call it quits. The atmosphere: This restaurant is inside the Maya Hotel and is overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the LBC, the views from this restaurant does not get any better. One star for the view. Zero for the rest. I called ahead and scheduled a reservation for our anniversary. I told the lady on the phone that it was a very special anniversary and I wanted to make it a special night. I asked if I could set up a prefix menu in advance to add a personal touch. She agreed and set it up for us. I was so excited to treat my husband to a romantic night. When we arrived, we had a nice seat right against the window, but they must had forgotten that I set up a prefix menu. I didn't mind too much (even though I wanted that special touch). We ordered calamari and the ceviche to start. The calamari was pretty big and decent and the ceviche was meh.. When our waiter finally got around to getting our dinner order, his eyes lit up when we continued to order the $44 carne asada and $40 scallops. Then he went missing for a half an hour. When he returned, he told us the food was almost ready. A few minutes later, they brought our plates. The carne asada was decent, but my scallops were disgusting. My husband (the least picky eater) even offered to switch me and couldn't eat it. Our waiter told us he would be "right back" to check on how we like the food. He finally came back 10-15 min later for me to send the scallops back. He looked disappointed. After some more time passed he offered us dessert. We declined. He pressured on for more dessert or coffee. We declined again. We definitely talked to him more during the end of our visit (paying and dessert) than our whole trip. Without the scallops our bill was still over $100 and it was NOT worth it. Pros: view of the waterfront and downtown Long Beach and Queen Mary, parking validation, good company :) Cons: ice tea with no ice, INATTENTIVE wait staff, the scallops were gross (I returned them.) I don't send food back so I ate it but was disappointed. Not only was it not medium rare but the steak looked to be all burnt all the way around. Potatoes were ok but I was looking for the chorizo and cactus were ok. I would definitely not get this again and after taking my first bite I wish I would have got something different. Seared Rare Ahi Tuna - Frisee and Arugula Lettuce Sugar peas, Daikon Radish, Green Beans, Mango, Wasabi egg and soy ginger dressing. My wife really enjoyed and I had a taste and have to say it was way better then the New York Steak. If you like Poke you will definitely like this salad. I came here for my Aunt's 60th birthday brunch. My other relatives had raved about this place so I was really excited. The atmosphere of this place is really nice of course. I expected that. The service was good, I was offered a mimosa right after I sat down. The price for drinks is kinda ridiculous though, even if it is endless for brunch. The cold foods were ok. I got some salami, heirloom tomatoes and mozzarella, charred asparagus, asparagus wrapped in smoked salmon, a pepperoncini, mahi mahi coconut ceviche and corn chips. The smoked salmon tasted kinda off truthfully might of been because it was so hot out and it might have been siting out for a while, which isn't good. The ceviche was amazing though, best part of my plate. The fish was meaty and tender and it was rich with coconut milk, but had a spice that cut right through it. Next I got the tacos because a lot of people from my table were coming back with them and saying that the steak ones were the best. I went over to the taco guy and noticed he was frying up some fatty salmon on the griddle so I decided to get a freshly cooked salmon taco and a steak taco. Topped it with cilantro, onions, lettuce, cheese and salsa and headed back to my table. I ate the salmon taco first and it was exactly as I imagined. Yummy, fall apart, fatty salmon with a nice kick of spicy salsa. The steak was good too, tender and juicy. For the main course I went over to the hot food. I just got some steak and crispy looking hash browns. I'm a steak and potatoes kinda person. The steak was pretty tender and the hash browns had a crispy top and a soft inside. By this time I was getting full so I decided to share dessert with my Mom. My Mom got flan and a cream puff for dessert. The dessert display was super indulgent and beautiful with a variety of desserts, but mostly cake. The flan was disappointing, it just tasted flat. We had to add the cream from the over the top double stuffed cream puff to the flan for it to taste alright. I also tried a super mini chocolate cake that my Uncle got, he loves chocolate. It was probably the best dessert there. Rich and moist cake perfection. For my Aunt's birthday my other Aunt brought a beautiful rose topped red velvet cake from another bakery and the staff was alright with her bringing it in, which was nice of them. The reason why I give this place three stars though is I was absolutely miserable here more than half of the time. It was extremely hot. We had umbrellas, but they didn't exactly cover all of us. There was a tall bald sever who walked past us multiple times, even stood by us awkwardly without offering us water very weird. It was about 5 mins this went on. After we were finally greeted by a server WITH WATER she took order. What I witnessed afterward we ordered was almost shocking every single table that came in after us was greeted promptly with water by someone. I mean EVERY SINGLE TABLE that was white was greeted with water, menus and a server with a smile. If you are looking for a welcoming experience this is NOT the place. This was a swanky place for an after party. I love the atmosphere here. After GPS failed us a few times, we circled the harbor and eventually found this hotel near Reef Restaurant and behind the Marriott. What an odd location but after walking in and taking in the awesome uber modern super fantastic decor and walking out onto the patio, soaking up the heat lamps and fire pits, and staring out at the magnificent view - the lighted bridge and calm water with the Queen Mary in sight. Oh yes. It was just perfect. Drinks were on happy hour extended special. I got their hefe on tap. I was hungry but unfortunately they didn't have any food and had served out the last of the chips. Martinis only came with one olive so they must have really been low on food. We chilled for a bit, enjoyed the great view, but after the drinks were done we had to split and find some food. They served bottled water to decrease contamination and served tortilla chips in a paper bag for the same purpose. we got cocktails that came in glasses and the rest of the food came out on regular plates and bowls, so not entirely consistent but that was fine. The food was good but... Throughout dinner, there was a hoard of flies that kept flying over our food so instead of eating we spent most of the time trying to shoo them away instead of eating. We asked the server as well as the manager politely about what can be done, but we were met with annoyance, a lack of empathy, and lack of a way to fix the situation. Fuego! Located inside the Long Beach staple Hotel Maya by DoubleTree, this restaurant and bar had amazing views! Even late at night when we arrived, we could still enjoy the waterfront scenery. We experienced the haunted harbor at the Queen Mary on a Saturday night and had to walk back to our hotel The Residence Inn about half a mile away. Fuego was en route, so of course we stopped in for a drink! Halloween weekend on a Saturday night the bar had some life but not too busy. There was a costume party going on but we managed to grab a table outside by the fireplace and there was no one else in sight! Very romantic evening :) The kitchen was closed for the night at the time but the server kindly brought us out some chips and salsa which were delicious! My GF had some wine and I ordered a cocktail, both pretty decent quality from what I remember (was a long night of drinking). The restaurant was dead on a Thursday night and they had the hardest time accommodating our group even though we had a reservation for weeks. We got the salmon sliders and steak tacos, which were both fine but definitely not memorable. Each entree for lunch will run you about $20 here. The salmon sliders were on the salty side. The fries that came with it were generic. The steak tacos were a little bland and the rice that came with it tasted like plain white rice.
