I just found this place and I'm glad I did. The quesabirria tacos at Fuego Cravings Covina were really good -- crispy on the outside, cheesy, and packed with flavorful meat. They tasted fresh, had a great balance of texture and flavor, and the salsa on the side added a perfect kick. Definitely a solid spot worth coming back to if you're craving good quesabirria tacos

Tucked away behind a modest storefront, this family-run gem pulses with life--bold red and black interiors, laughter rising above the hum of the kitchen, and the kind of service that feels more like a welcome home than a transaction. By the way, this place is located in a large plaza shopping center. Rene, the charismatic staff member who greeted me, guided me toward the Surf and Turf Fries--"one of our most popular dishes," he promised. I took the bait, and I'm glad I did. What arrived was a feast of contrasts and comfort: perfectly crisp fries buried beneath tender, char-grilled asada and crowned with plump, garlic-kissed shrimp. A verdant drizzle of creamy green salsa and a generous layer of melted cheese tied it all together into a bold, unapologetic bite of coastal street food indulgence. To wash it down? A large cup of Jamaica, refreshingly tart and vibrant, cutting through the richness like a breeze on a summer day. This is the kind of place you come back to--not just for the food, but for the soul it serves. Next visit, I have my sights set on the birria. If the fries are any indication, I'm in for something special.

Have been coming here for 1-2 years and usually always get the fuego fries with birria & a birria burrito ! Wasn't able to write a review yet because every time we go we pig out because it's so good! Fuego fries come with cheese and jalepeños, and your side of meat. 10/10 hits the spot for something snackish but also fills you up!

3 stars because the food was.... :( . but they have the best cashier / hostess = Milady :D she was super great and nice and patient! Thank you!!! I feel bad abt writing this because Milady was suuuupeer great but unfortunately I usually write about the food so I can rememeber the places we'll go back to or not.. so here it is... We ordered: 1. Street taco plate (pick 3 meats) which consists of: A. Rice = undercooked and overcooked at the same time. Some were hard and some were super soft... tasted good but cook was inconsistent B. Beans = hubby liked it. Balanced taste and cooked well C. Chips = crunchy and fresh. Seasoned inconsistently but still good D. Chicken tacos = i liked it. Nothing extraordinary. Seasoned okay with hint of lemon, cooked evenly throughout. E. Al pastor = cooked evenly but lacked the usual pineapple taste / sweet taste. Decent. F. Asada = bland and tough. You'll see in the pic how it's pale looking.. 2. Shrimp tacos = hubby didn't like it.. I liked it coz it was salty and the sauce made it a bit sweet then fresh coz of cabbage. It was decent. 3. Birria in tostada = hubby was disappointed coz he said that birria is usually a bit red/orange and never bland.. the birria was pale and bland like boiled meat... I've read a bunch of reviews abt how great this place is, so hopefully today was just an off day.. but again, thank you Milady, ure so awesome!

I was looking for a place to meet up with my friend that was visiting her brother in Covina and saw that Fuego was pretty close to her. First thing that caught my eye when I walked in was the aguas frescas. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. I ordered quesa birria tacos, my daughter ordered birria ramen and my friend ordered a mulita de birria. The birria was so good, it had so much flavor. I got an agua de horchata and the size of the mason jar was pretty big. The guy at the counter was super friendly and kept asking if we were doing ok. The place has a few tables and they had the tv on playing a movie. I will be back to try the rest of the food on the menu. Hidden gem for sure.

Fuego!!! I love the surf and turf tacos. I also tried the quesabirria, birria taco, fish taco, surf and turf burrito, and Covina burrito. They were alright. My whole party agreed that the surf and turf tacos are the best. We are honestly not really birria fans but it seems that a lot of people like it and it's clearly popular here. Service was great. I got a few cups of water and borrowed a bottle of salsa. The place is nice and clean. The complex is not busy and the restaurant was not crowded, although I came around 8:00 PM on a Thursday and around 2:00 PM on a Friday so that may be different on a Friday or Saturday around 7 PM. My critiques would be: the "sour cream sauce" and "guacamole sauce" are a bit watery, and the Covina burrito had too much rice and beans. But the surf and turf tacos make up for that. I'd come back just for the surf and turf tacos. The prices and portions are good for me, especially compared to where I'm from - the San Francisco bay area.

Surf and Turf Fries: These fries were supposed to be "seasoned." Looks nothing like the photos.

I've been seeing this place on DoorDash and had it bookmarked for a while. I finally decided to give it a shot, but I don't understand the raving reviews? We ordered 2 green chilaquiles bowls (one w/ asada and the other w/ pastor) and the surf & turf fries - to go. The chilaquiles were soggy and flavorless. The description for the surf & turf fries stated that they were "crispy" and "seasoned." However, they fries were plain, soft and bland; no crisp whatsoever. Overall, after spending $45, we were super disappointed.

We were craving some birria and found this place with great reviews. We came in at around 5-6PM on a weekend on found it pretty empty, but was kindly introduced and told how to order with the wait staff. We got a total of 9 birria tacos with some consome along with a horchata drink to wash it all down. I personally mainly enjoyed the horchata, it was nicely sweetened without being overly powering and was a pleasure the drinks. The birria tacos to me were a bit dry (making the consome a must buy if you are ganna try these), and felt a bit smaller than I would expect for 5$ a taco, but otherwise they were a decent snack. Definitely loved the consome tho so would be interested in trying their other options like their ramen. Otherwise, was a nice small homey feel with decent food.

I've been coming to Fuegos Tacos for over a year and usually have great experiences. Today was different. I asked for no onions, but all three of my queso birria tacos had onions when I got home. It was frustrating and disappointing. I might give them another try later, but for now they're on a timeout.

My mom and I visited for the first time a couple of days ago, and unfortunately, we left a bit disappointed We had asked about the quesa-birria tacos and their size, and were told they were larger than the regular tacos. Based on that, my mom ordered two. I was even surprised because usually quesa-birrias are huge! I ordered the birria loaded fries. When the food arrived, we were really shocked at how small the tacos were -- they looked more like regular-size tacos, not larger. The fries also looked great but tasted a bit bland despite all the toppings; it felt like something was missing in flavor. We came in really excited and wanting to love the food, but sadly it just didn't live up to our expectations this time.

I was pleasantly surprised how flavorful the birria quesadilla tasted. It did not disappoint with the traditional flavor of juicy birria and they use extra cheese. Third street tacos are very good. The meat is savory and the tortillas do taste homemade, on the thick side.

We changed our plans to 12pm. That's where things started going wrong in ways we couldn't have predicted. There was a huge line outside. All reservation holders, all waiting, none being told anything useful. We stood there for over an hour. This restaurant enforces a 90-minute table limit, so the only way reservations run 60 minutes behind is if you sold more tables than you have. When they finally seated us, they walked us to the very back of the restaurant to plastic folding picnic tables and plastic chairs. The furthest possible seats, out of sight from the mariachi stage. Then we asked for the brunch menu. The server looked surprised, "We're out of the brunch menu. Everyone ordered the same thing." You promoted a brunch, and everyone ordered brunch? Shocking lol. We had to order off the regular menu instead. Our reservation was at 12pm, we sat down at 1:05pm and I finally got my meal at 1:30pm. There were several mistakes to our orders. One person at our table got the grilled shrimp. They served it raw and he sent it back. He ended up not eating and left without a meal. One of the staff was telling frustrated customers that this is simply what you should expect on Mother's Day. No accountability. Just the excuse that wanting a functional experience on a holiday is your fault for going out. This made it worse. And the mariachi? They stopped playing five minutes after we finally sat down. The same guy who told us this to lower our standards told us the band was on a 15-minute break. That break lasted 50 minutes. They came back to play right as our plates were being cleared away. Remember, we were seated in the very back, nowhere near the stage. The band finally made their way toward us just as we were asking for the check. They comped a few items and brought complimentary dessert. It didn't matter by then. This is a bar and lounge that decided to become a holiday brunch venue for one day. The grandmothers in that line didn't come for the lounge atmosphere. They came for the brunch and the mariachi -- the two things this restaurant completely failed to deliver. But I'd bet the staff is somewhere high-fiving each other for surviving a busy shift, convinced we all got exactly the Mother's Day we deserved for daring to go out. We still spend $300. We fell for the trap. And the portions were not large enough, so we went down the street to an Irish pub after and ate some appetizers to make up for it. Better to stick with family restaurants that have experience with special occasions.

An evening here feels, at first, like an invitation into something refined--dim lighting, polished interiors, and a menu that promises indulgence. The mole poblano delivered beautifully: rich, layered, and deeply satisfying. The ahi tuna ceviche followed with freshness and elegance, showcasing the kitchen's true capability. However, not every detail carried that same intention. The guacamole lacked depth and seasoning--unexpected for a restaurant at this level. But the most defining part of the experience happens before you even sit down. With valet as the only real parking option (approximately $35), guests are required to wait outside in a crowded, unpredictable environment. During my visit, the atmosphere felt chaotic and, at times, unsafe. What stood out most was the absence of a consistent, visible security presence at the entrance. For a restaurant of this caliber, a dedicated security guard stationed at the entrance should be standard--not optional. Managing the valet flow, maintaining order, and most importantly ensuring guests feel safe and comfortable should be part of the experience. Javier's delivers moments of excellence on the plate--but true luxury is holistic. It's not just what you serve, it's how you protect, welcome, and elevate your guests from the very first step.
