This was such a cute place to have brunch. My date and I had just grabbed some coffee from down the street and we're looking for a place to enjoy our drinks and have brunch. We went here as it was down the street from the coffee shop and it also had outdoor seating. To order, you must go inside and one of the servers will take your order. You can then find your seat and they will bring the food out to you. I ordered a cinnamon waffle, which had blueberries and whipped cream on top. And my date had ordered a seasonal cinnamon French toast. We both tried each other's food and we enjoyed it very much. As you can tell, we really enjoy cinnamon flavor. The cinnamon and the sweetness did get a little overwhelming. I love the ambience and feel of this restaurant. It was a little difficult finding the restroom, as it was all the way in the back. And as I was walking towards the restroom, I got lost because it seems like I was watching into the kitchen. So just to know that the restroom is all the way in the back. I would definitely recommend if you were in the downtown Covina area.

what we ordered: * west cochina burrito (the best thing on the menu) * verde chilaquiles (crunchy big chips w chicken) * avocado toast (... no ... i can make better) * caramelo (super sweet aroma but milky watery) * spanglish (not enough caffeine, sweet and watery) all in all, i don't think i'd come back but had a nice experience for my first time !

The name rings true ~ a cafe for chismosas. The vibe is fun - lots of greenery and vibrant colors worthy for a photo op. It's the kind of place you'd meet up with a girlfriend for a quick and casual meal. Fittingly, I found myself here with my sister. We shared the following: -chorizo burrito ($11): chorizo, eggs, papas, cheese -red chilaquiles ($13): fresh tortilla chips, eggs, frijoles, salsa, cotija, onion, crema The chorizo burrito was very tasty especially with the salsa they give you (red, green - both are excellent). While I don't love potatoes of any kind in my breakfast burritos, I somehow didn't mind them here. They were seasoned and didn't take up a ton of real estate the in the burrito. The chilaquiles were equally as good. They scramble the eggs on their chilaquiles which is a fresh take on the usual over easy situation. It made for egg distribution that much easier. Food is excellent, but drinks are even better. Did I mention there's no upcharge for oat milk? The drinks alone are worth a visit.

THEY ARE CLOSED ON MONDAYS! I love this place!! I have came here a few times with my friend to grab coffee and a bite to eat and I just love everything about this place! From the interior design and decorations, to the theme of the cafe, to the drinks and items on the menu. My absolute favorite from here is the cafe de olla. Their food is good too, but I return to this spot for the delicious drinks. Every time I have come here, the staff are always so helpful with my questions. I like to ask questions about drinks and take recommendations, and they are always accommodating and offer advice on what to order.

Had an incredible first coffee date, and the star of the show was the warm Cuban Latte. It was everything I hoped for--smooth, balanced, and just the right touch of cortadito without being too sweet. That first sip? Pure magic. It brought a sense of peace so profound, I momentarily forgot I was even on a date! Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a coffee experience that goes beyond the cup.

Cute place. There is two-hour parking right next to the cafe, so that was extra convenient. Been here twice, but having their Horchata latte this time was great! Definitely will come back and order it again. My friend liked their Cafe de Olla too.

Love this little brunch spot in old town (or downtown?) Covina. The food here is on point and have they have a really great selection of specialty coffees. Highly recommend the Cafe de Olla or the Taro-Chata lattes. I've been here a few times my favorite thing I've ever ordered was the West Cochina Burrito (5/5!). You also cannot go wrong with any of the waffles. This spot is also dog friendly! We brought our lil corgi and sat on the patio and the server was super kind and brought out a bowl of water for him. That's always a plus in my book. If you're looking for a brunch spot, or even just a spot for coffee, Chismosa Cafe is it!

Great food great price super cute location! Came in for a nice breakfast. I thought the name was super cute and trendy! Reservation- they have waitlists. I showed up on a Thursday and it wasn't too busy. I was sat within a few minutes. Coffee- HORCHATA COLD BREW IS BOMB!!! Food- the morning Sammie is tasty. I've tried their other food and I'll have to say the chilaquiles and burritos are better. Price- great price for the food quality!

Phenomenal Food Phenomenal Coffee Amazing service, beautiful decor, and atmosphere. Fleetwood Mac was playing while I scarfed down my delicious chismosa pork belly chilaquiles and took sips of my hot drip coffee. The pork belly was perfect seasoned, well cooked, tender inside and crispy outside, was perfect shreddable and easy to cut through. And a very nice size serving to match. The red sauce chilaquiles are so flavorful, I want to say garlicky and roasted chilies, just perfect and not spicy. Wasn't overwhelmed with cilantro (Thank God) with sour cream and guacamole. Just perfect. Love the soft scrambled eggs too, custard like and soft and fluffy!! Love Chismosa Cafe!!!!

Came here to meet up with a friend and sister. It was our first time. Food was good and good portion. The service is good, attentive and friendly. Now the ambiance could be more welcoming. I think they need some more love inside. There is a lot of space that could be used differently and the deco could be more chismosa type like art, some magazine chisme articles etc. is in a freer location they should do some more about it.

It was okay. Was expecting more. Super small place. Service was okay they added chorizo to my friend chilaquiles and she didn't order that. They were a little spicy. Drinks were good. Not many options on the menu. You order before you have a seat and they bring the food to you (so no refills unless you line up to order another drink). Many people were stopping for just a drink. So mostly knows for the drinks.

Super cute cafe with friendly staff. Judging by the name, you are encouraged to come gossip while you sip on your cafecito and enjoy breakfast. My meal started out right with an iced cafe de olla latte. The taro-chata and vanilla vice lattes sounds delectable and are next on my list! Chismosa's chilaquiles are served either roja and verde and come with beans, salsa, cotija cheese, onion and crema in a generous portion and both tasted real sweet to my tastebuds. I couldn't quite pin down what ingredient made it taste like candy, but this isn't a complaint. The West Cochina burrito with pork belly, bacon, eggs, potatoes and salda verde is sizeable, and was not as sweet as the chilaquiles. Public street parking, lot parking, or garage parking real close to this cafe. You check in to the restaurant with an iPad out front, and the wait was shorter than estimated.

I love breakfast and have been wanting to check out this spot since they moved to downtown Covina. Took my wife, kids and mother and law during the week it's nice to avoid the weekend rush. We were greeted as we walked in and sat right away (perk of being an early bird). They have a sign in right by the door for busy times (my guess). High chairs for the kiddos made it easy to sit us all on one round table without feeling too crowded. Felt nice and warm inside with the recent cool weather it felt great to sit inside and eat a hot meal. The only reason I don't give a 5 star are a few things: - My mother in law asked for queso fresco but they didn't have any on hand - Wife and I wanted an over easy eggs on the chilaquiles but they couldn't do it. - cafe de olla wasn't as good as I'd hope for. My plate was delicious! Barbacoa y huevos. Every had a bite, my wife even switched plates with me. Tres leches waffle was good, very sweet I'm surprised my kids didn't want it but wanted to eat the migas burrito (as long as they eat). I'd definitely go back and try something else on the menu. Go early and avoid the busy times.

I am confused as to the hours. On Apple Maps it says it's open, but are the yelp hours the most accurate? I left a message as well to attempt to ask, but didn't hear back.

We are open Fri-sun- 10a-2p. We are officially closing down June 22nd…

Do you make reservations for weekends? I need a reservation for 3, tomorrow, 5/11/24 at 12:30p. Thank you.

We are fast causal now. No res required its fist come first serve. Order at register.

    Is this place dog friendly?

    Yes it is

Do you have reservations or private events?

I arrived without a reservation. There was a clipboard or tablet to add your name to the waiting list. I am sure they can accommodate a private party, especially since they are not open every day, there's opportunity to reserve for your group.

My husband got the chilaquiles, he has they were flavorful and the chips were crispy & everything was fresh. I ordered the enchiladas, the sauce was tasty and the chicken was delicious. I was worried it would be boiled chicken but the chicken had onions and good spices. The rice was so yummy!! The margarita was a good size, perfectly sweet and the chamoy rim was a yummy touch. We were the only people in the restaurant, they open at 9 & we got there at 9:03. The waitress was friendly and attentive. We will be back for their $6 Monday Margarita specials and to try other dishes. The food tasted pretty authentic and the price point was great. Chilaquiles with rice & beans $12 (+$6 for meat) Enchiladas $18 Margarita $6 (Monday special)

Perfect! The wine-based cantarito paloma was a fun twist on a classic and beautifully presented. Service was friendly, not too attentive but ok, the ambiance was relaxed and catered to our kiddo by putting on a movie for him that was kind of them.... A great spot in San Dimas for some somewhat authentic mexican flavors....we would give it another shot again... see what else we try next time.

Carlos took amazing care of us from start to finish--super friendly, attentive, and just has a great overall vibe. Let's start with the margarita I got, I did not taste any alcohol in it (and I cannot have strong drinks! So that can tell you a lot) not worth $18. We basically paid for an expensive agua fresca! Then I ordered the carne asada skewers. The first bite was okay, not very flavorful, but I thought I could just finish it. As I go through the meat, I notice so much fat and very little meat. I grab another piece and bite into it, I start chewing and realize that it tasted like raw meat (with a hint taste of raw meat that spent too much time in the fridge) I immediately got nauseous and spit it out on a napkin. I told our server and he asked me what else I would like. I then ordered the fish tacos, he brought it out in less than 5 minutes (kind of fast if you ask me) I try a small piece of the fish and it wasn't bad, I give a piece to my friend and she only got fat. Why is there fat in my fish tacos! I tried to pick through it so I could atleast get full, but I couldn't do it. The server came to pick up our plates and asked me if I didn't like the tacos, I said no but that's okay don't worry about it. I was so disappointed because I was starving. My friend ordered the rib eye tacos and had to pick through it too because most of it was fat. The only good thing that happened was that our server did not charge me for the two plates that I didn't eat. We thanked him, paid the check and left. Unfortunately, this was not the best food and we were excited to eat and celebrate my birthday.

Topped with crema, avocado sauce, and fresh onions, they had the perfect balance of crunchy + creamy + tangy. Loved that they were stuffed full or shrimp and not greasy. An evening here feels, at first, like an invitation into something refined--dim lighting, polished interiors, and a menu that promises indulgence. The mole poblano delivered beautifully: rich, layered, and deeply satisfying. The ahi tuna ceviche followed with freshness and elegance, showcasing the kitchen's true capability. However, not every detail carried that same intention. The guacamole lacked depth and seasoning--unexpected for a restaurant at this level. But the most defining part of the experience happens before you even sit down. With valet as the only real parking option (approximately $35), guests are required to wait outside in a crowded, unpredictable environment. During my visit, the atmosphere felt chaotic and, at times, unsafe. What stood out most was the absence of a consistent, visible security presence at the entrance. For a restaurant of this caliber, a dedicated security guard stationed at the entrance should be standard--not optional. Managing the valet flow, maintaining order, and most importantly ensuring guests feel safe and comfortable should be part of the experience. Javier's delivers moments of excellence on the plate--but true luxury is holistic. It's not just what you serve, it's how you protect, welcome, and elevate your guests from the very first step.
