Since I was a kid, I recall visiting the Frontier Restaurant and the delightful food they had. They also had Galaga, a video game, that I used to love. Visiting and studying there while attending UNM was commonplace and was where we all agreed to meet. Since the expansion a long time ago, they still fill every seat and there always seems to be a line. The line is quick to get through and the staff friendly! If you've never been, their cinnamon rolls are the staple and I love the huevos rancheros! If visiting the ABQ, don't miss out on this landmark! Great food and a reasonable price! The Frontier offers good food its very fast pace so you won't get that one on one experience with the staff but its fast and friendly.

They do many things here and they do them well, however nothing that you eat here is going to blow your socks off. The food is very cheap and a good value, and good tasting if you want to get full. You also are right on the large university campus and get to acquire a feel for what it's like for students there -- if you're just a tourist passing through like I was. I had the strip steak, which was decent. The cinnamon rolls that everyone talks about are pretty good...but warning, there's LOTS of butter. I've noticed that in the south, people are very big on upping the cream to flavor ratio on a lot of foods. This cinnamon roll had a higher cream to cinnamon ratio than I'm used to. Everywhere we ordered coffee in NM, there was a lot more milk/cream than coffee. Very interesting. What everyone says about it feeling cafeteria style if very true. A lot of the Mexican food that you can get in Albuquerque is very similar in style and taste, this place does it the same way, but for a much better price than most places. read more

I know this place is a landmark for all. My boyfriend has raved about Frontier for years. Finally I got to try it. Okay, so I wasn't too pleased with the flavor of their refried beans. I think it is has a spice or something that I don't like ? Ordered a cinnamon bun, and it was hard. I was hoping it would be soft and just melt in my mouth. Need to try it again. I did like their warm apple cider. Mmmmm. What I really wish that I could have ordered, was the breakfast burrito. But I'm on a mission to test as many bean and cheese burritos as I can. LOL. What I do give a huge shout out is, to their tortillas. Woot-woot! On our way back home, ordered 6 dozen bags. Everyone that we've given our presents of tortillas to, have said they are so good. Yup, they are pretty amazing. The restaurant goes far back. Like I think 4 rooms. The parking lot we found out, also goes back pretty far too. We didn't know and stupidly paid for street parking. Staff wear these cute hats, very retro. I felt like I was in the 50s. One of my faves for breakfast and amazing chile sauce! My go to if I can't decide on a place for breakfast. Super fast service even when busy. Inside is beat down and rustic but that's it's style. Food is Super good. Recommended if your just visiting town for the first time. read more

It definitely made me feel like a local hearing about the immense history in this place and how connected some of the college kids feel to this place. The food was good. It's hard to describe albuquerque cuisine, like a mix of a Native American and Tex-lex cuisine but it's more than that. You have to just try it to see. So good! Got the sweet hot roll the lyft driver recommend and it was the best thing. It melted in my mouth. I got the Mexican plate with beef enchilada, taco, beans, and rice. All was $12. I stopped in here while passing thru on another road trip and was glad I did. I ordered the single patty Duke burger. This was the best burger I think I have ever eaten. Iconic Albuquerque diner. An absolute MUST when visiting New Mexico. Their breakfast burrito with Green Chile...MUST. Their pancakes...REALLY GOOD. Their Sweet Roll...EPIC. The only downfall to this place is the homeless traffic outside...it's dicey at night time...but a great place for family dining or going with kids at any time during the day. It was Sunday night and I needed a fill. This current state of public health and wellness has not only crippled my mental state but also my diet. The fear of being around people to accumulate what would seem like a month's supply of food has become terrifying in practice and for some reason, that month's supply of food that seems to only last a week. So what do i do? Sit around and feed off of the sorrow that bellows from Robert Smith's mouth, or do I take the risk and find a cheap, satisfying meal? My girlfriend asks, "how do you feel about Frontier?" It hit me like the intro to Earth Crisis' "Firestorm." Frontier has what people crave and curb-side pickup for the cautious! We ordered our go-to plates which consist of a veggie burrito for me, and a bean and cheese burrito with a side of green chili cheese fries on the side. To top it all off, a cold cinnamon roll on the side (it's important that it's given cold so we can warm it ourselves and enjoy it the way it's suppose to be). The order was quick, affordable, and safe in the process! Taking that first bite gave me a sudden bump of adrenaline. Like Tommy Bahama staring at the gnarly curls, the was nothing left to do but devour. Anxious for my girlfriend to finish for the grand finally, I popped that bad roll in the microwave for about thirty seconds to get the icing nice and saucy. Halfway through the first bite, I had to grab something close, because that bite was taking my @$$ to Mars. The only disappointment was not ordering seconds. Would highly recommend. We came here after a few competitive and long-winded games of pool. We were hungry but sadly realized that almost nothing was open. Frontier to the rescue! It was busy, probably both because it's right by a university and so many places in Albuquerque close at 9, but the line moved quickly. This place is like a well-oiled machine with tons of efficient employees. They don't have table service; it's cafeteria-style and you wait for your number to be called. My friend and I were astonished at how fast everything went, from placing our orders to getting our food and sitting down. Both of our meals were less than $6. The menu is a combination of American, New Mexican, and breakfast food. It's not gourmet but it also doesn't pretend to be. It's just simple, well-priced food that hit the spot for us after a night on the town. read more

We are trying all things New Mexico while we are here in Albuquerque, and our next stop was the Frontier restaurant. The food was very good. I had the Duke City burger (single patty) with fries and my hubby had the Bonanza burger (double patty) with onion rings. We also had to get the famous Frontier sweet roll (warmed up) which was oh so good!!! We plan on returning for breakfast before our vacation is over! :-) Definitely worth a stop in. Reasonably priced at $22 for 2 meals (including drinks) and dessert...not bad at all. :-) SECOND VISIT...THE NEXT MORNING... :-0 Ok, don't judge us. Lol. We went back to Frontier restaurant the very next morning! I had to try the breakfast burritos that are an Albuquerque fav. I like wet and messy meals so I went for the Frontier burrito (beef, bean, and cheese) with cheese and green chili stew on top. It's not a breakfast burrito, but I made it my own breakfast. :-) I'm still not a fan of the green chilies on everything, so I substituted those for cheese on the inside of my burrito. The meal came with rice (which was hard and flavorless) and lettuce and tomatoes. OMG! I LOVED THE BURRITO! When I tell you that we finished our food in 10 mins., I am not joking! Breakfast was even better than dinner!!! :-) Only spent about $20... My husband ordered the Western omelet and showed his food no mercy! Lol. We will be returning here again during our next visit. This place is drunk food Mecca on steroids and set up on prime real estate right across the street from the college. Good sized menu with New Mex flair emphasized on most of the dishes. It's was off season for students and a Sunday night when we visited so it wasn't too busy. Walking around I saw signs stating that at this certain point it would be such n such minutes before you get tot eh counter to order so I can see this place getting packed on weekends and game nights. read more

My friends and I visited Frontier Restaurant for lunch on a Saturday. The place was busy, but they had multiple cashiers so the wait wasn't bad. There wasn't much service because we picked up our foods. I had the Frontier burrito and the cinnamon roll. Both were pretty good.
