Cocina Azul This place needs a facelift. Doesn't really have ambience and it's so bright, I could've wore my sunglasses. Champagne and Arthur were fabulous actually all the employees this night was super nice. I ordered the green chili stew with potatoes and it was to die for. It was so good. I had to take some to go. I had my choice of a tortilla or a sopapilla, of course I took the sopapilla, Yum fresh and hot, so good with honey. . I WOULD RECOMMEND

    Excellent margarita!!!

For a Sunday mid day it's busy with the football games on. Cool vibe sitting outside with our pup. Unsure if dog friendly but we just walked in like we own the place. Service took awhile to get drinks and orders but they got us in. We are STARVING having just got back from Santa Fe. We got our food after a small weight and it was delightful! Great flavor and enough to really feed you and place you into a food coma! The place is clean inside and out and the staff was very friendly. I think we were starving to the point of thinking that everything was just going slower than it actually was. This is a good place to stop and get some good food with Rich flavor!

So great to have this restaurant close to us in the foothills.

Within the last two months we have been here for a late lite lunch, ya know save room for dinner! The first time in early January both of us ordered the appetizer "taquito bowl" and 2 waters. A small bowl filled with 8 half size taquitos dunked in a good amount of queso! It was so yummy great!!! Freshly made, some heat, and you need to ask for a basket full of tortilla chips to finish off the queso!!! We were full! Our server Sonny, is the absolute best waiter! Caring, attentive and kind! There was no question that on our second visit a few days ago that we would order the "same thing." Once again, the taquitos & queso were delicious!! I did order a spicy margarita this time and loved it! Sonny was our server, and we were happy to see him again! I am sure we will be back and maybe have dinner next time. When that happens we will want Sonny as our server!!!

    SOLID salsas and chips. Mmm!

I enjoy their chiles' flavor, but prices have crept up and up and up and service has really deteriorated (I said "thank you" to my server _five_ times today and his only response - and only once! - was "Yup!"). Not as clean as it has been: I was seated at a booth today that needed to have its top wiped - and no one wiped it - or came to wipe it, so I did it. Food was served and but no silverware; had to request it. Salsa and chips - which are quite delicious - are no longer complientary, but are a $5 add-on to the already pricey ($18 for a plate of enchiladas?) food. And my $14 burger today - while yummy - was served with wilted lettuce and tomato that should have been in the garbage, not on a customer's plate. This was during a weekday lunch - at the front end of the lunch, so it wasn't busy. This outlet of Cocina Azul on Holly clearly needs some managerial attention. Friends and I have been coming here for lunch every couple of months, but I think I just need to back-burner this place and make the slightly longer drive to a better restaurant.

My 5th yelp review for Cocina Azul and probably my 10th visit here! I've always had luck here for Sunday breakfast. We all know how packed some restaurants can get during this time. This Sunday, it was packed! They had a car show and a live music! It was so much fun :)

The green chili cream pork soup was too spicy for most of us. Liked the burger and a taco. Line out the door on Saturday 14 October after the eclipse and balloon festival. Please put a QR code in the window so that people can see the menu before they enter

This place is awesome, I accidentally went to eat there and to my surprise their red and green chili is the best in Albuquerque by far.

Ordered cold beer and cocktails after we were seated inside Lotsa flies.....we get it....pretty much an open-air restaurant this time of year They did set a spinner on our table which helped. Was decently cool inside too I have been wanting to try their Kizer beef and pork offerings so i threw down on a cheeseburger (hard to not order New Mexican food here) But that burger was perfect! Delicious I recommend and was plenty big Of course i dropped a big spoonful of green chile on it And the green chile strip appetizer was outstanding Summer at El Pinto. Enjoy!

My parents lived in ABQ for years and always thought that the atmosphere was great, but the food was so-so. However, on this instance, we all thought the food was quite good. Flavorful carne adovada, although it was a bit tough. Red chile sauce was spicy but had great flavor. The green chile sauce was hot and tasty. Posole was also good. The gold margaritas were also good - to anyone complaining about the price - at $14.50, the price is very fair considering the cost of ingredients. If you want a cheap junk margarita that is more sugar than anything else, go somewhere else! Our gripe... The place is huge and has an abundance of great places to seat guests. We had a pretty large group - 7 people celebrating a family reunion of sorts. However, they sat us right next to the bussing station that had noisy carts, dishwashers, and other distractions. It was so loud, it was hard to hear the person across the table. There were at least 10 other tables that they could have seated us at! It seems to me that this area should be used only when the restaurant is completely full. This seems to be a poor management decision rather than the fault of the servers or hosts.

Next, the entry door is no longer facing the street. It is on the north wall of the building off the entry to the parking lot. The entrance sign is just sharpie or pen on paper and very faded. Once inside this small converted residence there are two dining rooms. The first was full but there was open seating in the second. There isn't a lot on the walls so the room echoes your conversation to everyone in the room. A bit more art on the walls and the diner vibe would really make itself known. The food. The NYT recently put Mary and Tito's in their 41 best list in the US so I had very high expectations. Usually my wife and I order a single item and share the meal. This time we ordered knowing we'd have take home leftovers. I ordered the Mexican Turnover Combination with beef. This is a pastry crust folded over a combination of ground beef, rice and beans. I ordered the red chile with this. My wife ordered the cheese enchiladas with green chile, rice and beans. This came with a lot of chopped green chile, not a sauce. Overall it was ok, but the beans and chopped chile put down so much liquid it rapidly became a soggy texture less mess. My turnover was tasty and the red chile also ok but not up to the rave reviews I've heard. At this time, I'd rate it the third best red I've had in NM. (See my review for La Cocina in Espanola for my pick for best Red chile in NM- so far anyway ) Overall, I'm glad we finally got the opportunity to dine at this local institution. When we do give it another try, I'm going to follow the recommendation for chicarones and pork adovado. Actual rating 3.5 stars.

I asked for some more green sauce on the side, but the one that was brought out was still red. The sopaipilla was a little too big. Some came to put our name on the list, and others arrived later. Our wait was 1 hour. Not bad, we had some drinks at the bar while waiting. Mom had her margarita (classic), and I had a watermelon, cucumber margarita. I didn't really care for it, then switched to an IPA. My partner had the pina colada. But let's talk about how HUGE this place is. They have room after room after room. I walked around a bit and found a second bar further back. One of the rooms is sunlit, which would have been nice. But when they seated us (all 8 of us) we were in what I would consider the main room towards the front. Because of the high ceilings and vast amount of sunshine, the room feels big and airy. The one thing I would have liked is some rice to go with my beans. They serve potatoes with the beans. Huh? I ordered the shrimp tacos, which were good. The pinto beans that came with the meal were okay, and again....... the potatoes (I didn't eat them, my brother took them home for leftovers). He had the taco burger. Yes, taco burger. Really, it's a ginormous taco. Lol. He ate it. My niece had a huge burrito. The other niece had a salad. My partner has never had green chile, so we ordered that as a side. But...it's not green chile. I was confused. Oh, the salsa is spicy! She liked it, and although I kept eating it, I generally prefer a milder salsa. The chips were great! I actually came for the sopaipillas! They came towards the end and I drizzled mine with honey. They were just like Grandma's. Overall, the meal was okay. I kind of expected more, but Mom was happy. They gave all the Mother's a rose, which was nice. They also have a gift store on site where you can purchase their salsa, shirts, and other merchandise.
