Busy, but not too crowded, bartender was excellent. Started off with a vodka martini (was going to order oysters). Ordered the beet salad to start and it was huge. Roasted beets, tomatoes, and blue cheese w/frisee lettuce was very good. Next appetizer was the fried green tomatoes. Huge, crispy and lots of them. Crab meat and remoulade on top was just right. They had imported oysters from New England (Wellfleet) so ordered a 1/2 dozen to go with my martini. Excellent presentation and taste. Next was the peel and eat shrimp. Big and not overcooked. The cocktail sauce was good, with lots of horseradish. On top of all the good food was the atmosphere. More like a resort than a restaurant. Great view of the river. I had heard many great things about Frigate's from locals and was very pleased when my coworker chose this spot for her retirement lunch. With a group of 10+ people, they were extremely accommodating. Once our entire party arrived, we were promptly seated outside on the deck in a nicely shaded area with terrific views of the river. We even spotted some alligators and dolphins! Everything on the menu looked and sounded amazing, with plenty of fantastic seafood options. For appetizers, we ordered the crispy calamari and cracked conch. Both were delicious and so popular they were devoured within minutes. I had a hard time choosing a lunch entrée because everything sounded so good, but I ultimately decided on the sushi. I ordered the Seminole Roll: krab, spicy tuna, topped with tuna, tempura flakes, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and sriracha. It was one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had. They were also huge! I saved half for lunch the following day. A few of my coworkers ordered the grouper sandwich, and it looked incredible as well. Everything was very fresh, and the portions were generous. Considering the size of our group, I was very impressed with the speed of service. Everything was flawless, and our server was fantastic. My wife and I stopped by for an early dinner. It was pouring rain so we sat inside. They do have a beautiful view of the water outside. Inside doesn't offer any views. We were driving from Ponte Vedra to Fort Lauderdale today and decided to give this place a try for lunch. I am so glad we did because it was great! First of all the outdoor seating and ambiance is fantastic. The menu had plenty of appetizers, salads, sushi, sandwiches and entrees. Our server, Justin, made some recommendations and I went with one of them and ordered the grouper sandwich. It was macadamia and coconut crusted and was the Crispiest fish sandwich I have ever had. There was no wait to be seated, which was convenient, and the service overall was just "alright." The menu felt limited, especially for a place that should highlight seafood. To start, we had the fried calamari. For drinks, I ordered the frozen creamsicle cocktail--like an adult orange creamsicle shake with vodka--which was fun and refreshing. For entrées, I went with the Spicy Mediterranean Bowl. While it included shrimp, scallops, pasta, and feta cheese, the Mediterranean label felt more like a stretch than a true description. My husband ordered the grilled salmon, which he enjoyed. We had planned on dessert and chose the flourless chocolate cake, but our server presented the check without even asking if we wanted dessert. When the cake finally came out, our spoons were placed directly over the chocolate syrup--making them sticky and messy to use. After asking for clean spoons, we weren't even offered an apology, which felt careless. What a beautiful tropical setting for a casual lunch on a Friday afternoon! We stopped by while driving through Florida, and we were fortunate to find Frigates. I had the tacos and an iced tea, but the best part was really the beautiful environment and the wonderful service from Justin. This restaurant is what enjoying Florida is all about - sunshine, palm trees, a waterfront location, with wonderful food and great service. There are so many seating locations within the restaurant that all patrons should be able to find their happy place, weather inside in air conditioning, or outside in nature. Pricing is quite reasonable, averaging just about $30 per person all in, including tip, tax and drinks. Everybody at the restaurant was extra kind in notifying us that the tip/service fee is included in the bill, the service was so wonderful that we tipped a little extra to recognize the quality of their staff. If I lived in the Melbourne area, I'd certainly be there more often - for us, I'll just make sure to stop by every time we pass through town. read more

Total disappointment and do not recommend this restaurant . While visiting the area I saw the menu online - it was quite inviting so we decided to eat dinner there. My partner ordered a Wagyu Beef Cheese Burger to be cooked medium rare, and I ordered the Thai Chili Glazed Salmon and substituted risotto with vegetables. Dinner was served and my partner's burger was cooked medium, so it was returned and had to wait for it to be cooked correctly. My salmon was on the dry side (slightly overcooked), the green beans in the vegetable medley were mostly limp vs firm, and the "Thai Chili" was in name only as there was no distinguishable "chili"taste per se; I made the strategic decision just to eat it vs waiting on a complete do over. This restaurant also charges a non-negotiable 20% gratuity fee, irrespective how well the food or service actually is (note-service was good). Clearly the food cookery was subpar and as this was our first impression of Frigate's--we do not recommend this restaurant. read more

We had two servers that were attentive. We started our meal with a land shark beer and a pineapple mule that was delicious and refreshing For appetizers we had the Crispy calamari there were criapy yet tender inside tossed with battered fried cherry peppers and served with Mariana on the side. Didn't care for the Mariana it was too sweet for me. But you could tell it was house made. We also had the Cracked Conch, super tender perfectly fried served with a remoulade sauce. That was the best fried Conch I've ever had. For our main courses we had the Fish and Chips and Macadamia Snapper. Both perfection. The food was amazing! I had the herb and parmesean encrusted grouper, and the grouper was perfectly cooked while the breading was crispy and flavorful. The spinach risotto that the fish laid on was probabky the best spinach rosotto I have had in years, and brought a comforting feel to the already wonderful dish. I had also had a virgin mojito, which many places tend to make too sweet or watery, but Frigates made it refreshing and delicious. The staff present were so helpful as well! We had ordered a half dozen oysters as an appetizer and they had given us a full dozen and comped it for the blunder. Our waitress was also very attentive, but always at the correct times. She never interrupted us while we were eating or engrossed in conversation, but somehow found the perfect moment to drop in and refill our drinks! The view was breathtaking as well! We had a table facing the river and when the sun finally set, the view of the torches and lights reflecting off if the water was absolutely breathtaking. Overall 10/10 experience! The restaurant is gorgeous - open air and on water - tropical lush even in November. Extended family came for Tgiving lunch. Seated on lower level which meant lots steep-stairs exercise to get to buffet (thank goodness my mom doesn't have mobility issues). Overall, the seafood saved the meal. Lots of variety: traditional Tgiving fare, grilled , steaks, ham - all very average. Loved the $5 sangria & Bloody Mary's. Let's start with the service. Had no issue there, Jessica was friendly and on spot. Next the restaurant, no issues there either. Now the not so good parts. We went to the bar downstairs and waited for our table for 9. It was happy Hour, so my wife ordered her drink and then we were called to our table. We got to the table and were immediately presented with a huge sign stating that 20% is added to ALL tickets. I consider myself to be a healthy tipper, so I asked our server about this 20%. She was apologetic and said she didn't make the rules and that was that. Then my wife asked for her second drink from happy hour and the server said that it was only good for the bar downstairs, wait, what? It's the same building and business! I told her to tell her owner, boss, manager that whoever made the policies that this was bad business and we would never be back. She couldn't apologize enough. If we hadn't already ordered, I would have had my entire party leave. Even though they tagged us with that 20%, I still left her a twenty. And almost forgot, the food isn't that great. Poorly timed preparation and getting them all out at once. Wanted to give one star but I'll let it stay at two. Hope future guests don't experience this place like we did. This was my third time at Frigate's Waterfront Bar and Grill, and it's quickly becoming a favorite. My first visit was for brunch, and the last two times were for lunch. Honestly, I want to try everything on the menu. This is definitely a case of my eyes being bigger than my belly, hence the multiple trips back to sample something new each time. I've tried a variety of dishes, including the Cracked Conch fried with spicy sauce, smoked fish dip with carrots, celery, jalapeños, and pepperoncini peppers, and the Spinach and Goat Cheese Salad with shaved fennel, roasted macadamia nuts, fig vinaigrette, grape tomatoes, and crumbled bacon. The fish and chips, Lobster Roll, Macadamia & Coconut Grouper Sandwich, and Crunchy Shrimp Roll have all been highlights as well. Frigate's is a great place to enjoy the warm breeze under the palm trees or beers and TVs under the thatched roof outdoor bar overlooking the water. We had been here a few times. The first time we went, we were stunned by the view with the sunset and how beautiful the property is. I went with my parents and my husband. My husband and I split the tomahawk... it's was $75 and DELICIOUS. We came back a couple months later and the tomahawk was mainly fat, smaller, and it's now $91. This restaurant is magical. The setting on the water cannot be beat. I called to make a reservation for my daughter's graduation celebration. The service and friendliness of every employee you encountered was warm and genuine. The food was outstanding, there were 13 of us and everyone loved their meal. It was a special meal for sure. But the day of dinner I come up to the counter and tell them that I have a reservation mine you when I reserved they told me that they were going to write down that it was a surprise birthday dinner, but the people at the front ruined it by saying "oh is it a birthday dinner?" like how clueless can they freaking be. It took her about 30 minutes just to start us off with water and it wasn't even busy. After she came back with the waters, it took her another 30 minutes to come back to take our order. I'm a very observant person so I would see groups of people come in and they would get their food before us. That's crazy. Anyways, after another 30 minutes, the waiter came to take our orders. We all knew what we wanted cause we were already there for an hour. About 20 minutes later. Our food comes out and two people order was wrong. We tell the lady and she said she's gonna get it fixed 10 minutes ago by and the person just ends up eating whatever they were given. Overall worst experience ever never coming back.
