Checked out Cajun Soul in Cocoa Village today and here are my thoughts…read more  We started with the ordered Southern Poutine (fries with cheese curds and pot roast). Comfort food. I ordered the Shrimp & Crawfish Étouffée as my entree. Liked the presentation and the portion size. A tiny bit spicy for my taste but I still enjoyed eating it.** ** Service was very welcoming and the best part is that is a local business. Always happy to support local eateries. Parking was a little tricky but I called and they said park behind the car oil business and sure enough there was public parking on the grass across the church.

We decided to have dinner when they had soulfood Sunday. The original waitress we had was cool and friendly, but the 2nd was not friendly, never took a drink order, never told us what was still available. We orginally ordered yams, after 15/20 of waiting we were told there weren't any left and what would we like to replace it with, but luckily they discovered they had enough for at least one serving. The peel & eat shrimp is literally too salty to eat. Following this dinner we had full blown headaches and suspect it was from this salty dish that we could not finish. The catfish was cooked well, and seasoned well, yet also salty along with the collard greens. The mac was good and balanced, the bite with some catfish was perfect. I was happy they did bring out the yams because they were made perfectly, soft, not too sweet and complimented every part of the meal. The smothered porkchops, a bit too smothered for our liking in a salty gravy. Trying to eat the porkchop itself was a challenge not worth much because you may be getting fatty piece. My wife, being the kind person she is, decided to try dessert. She has been looking for real banana pudding, what they had left was red velvet cake. It was pretty good, not much to say on it honestly I was beyond done. That said, we will not be returning. I really wanted a po boy, but its not worth getting a headache over due to high sodium

Inside is a tiki bar vibe, it is very small business and the waitress is super nice (and must deal with a lot). It was virtually empty when we went for dinner. Mussel and clam in white wine: okay the bread was not even grilled (I had expected some buttery smoked grill mark situation) and the clams had a lot of sand in them. There was a handful of dead mussels. And overall it was a bit salty and lacking in freshness. Mahi taco- inside was good but idk if orlando doesn't have a good bread place cuz the tortilla was soo bad. Like no moisture, fake tasting tortilla. Otherwise the fish and toppings are yummy and I can see why its recommended. Again not really the blackened grill flavor. The fries were real potato (russet) but also felt a overfried/fried too long at a low temperature because they were greasy and some were burnt.. The fried oysters were okay, on the smaller side. Overall, this place might be better for fried baskets and like fish and chips rather than fresh seafood experience. Also considering it is on the cape/island you do have to drive out a long way on a single road to get to it, so that might have also influenced my expectations. Again the service is good and nice if you do want to support a local business. Just for the price and repertoire, maybe I had higher expectations.

We also tried the Hawaiian pasta salad. I was skeptical but it turned out to be pretty good. Coconut custard pie was good, fresh and delicious.

Walk in, take a right. Walk to the back as you start smelling the food more and more. White board to the left offing you todays choices. You also just passed the meat patties on the right. I can't really tell you what a plate ran, but 2 lunch plates (meat and 2), a killer ginger lemonade, and a beef patty came out to just shy of $24 - so guessing the plates were around $9 each. Got the salt fish and wifey got the curried chicken. I do wish the food was spicier - it seems like everyone here in the Cape is catering to the "locals" vs keeping it "natively" spiced. Alas - some hot sauce and things are where they should be. Green bananas, fried plantains and yam rounded out lunch. Boy I wish this was a buffet though - some foods just lend themselves to this style (see all Indian food), but just enough was on the plate for a normal person As this is a mile from our house - this will get put into the rotation. It should be in yours too. Added in some pics of the place and the food
