The power jack on my laptop has been loose for a while, but only recently has it gotten to a point where I can hardly work on my laptop because it keeps flipping between AC and battery power. I found this place online and decided to take my laptop here to get it fixed. Well, apparently they don't do this. They gave me a business card for Mr. Notebook. So basically, a computer repair place doesn't fix one of the most common wear and tear problems for laptops? I often work from home at nights and am also a serious PC gamer. I built my rig from scratch, purchasing high-end parts to make it run fast and smooth. So when it comes to putting things together and troubleshooting software issues, I can usually fix it, given enough time. However, I've been incredibly busy with life the past few months and when my PC "bricked", it added one more burden I had to deal with. Yes, I could have spent hours figuring out what the issue was, but time is money, so I decided to take it into Friendly Computers. Literally, within a few hours, they found out my DVD drive was shot and my media hard drive was dying. They replaced the DVD drive and recommended that I backup my media drive and come back for a replacement. I was expecting it to take at least a couple days, but the speed of the diagnosis was incredible. Overall experience: if Yelp had 6 stars, I'd give them the bonus one for the speed and service. The price was fair and the problem was solved. I would have not trusted any other shop with my computer (*cough* GeekSquad *cough*). If you're so mad about your computer that it makes you want to throw it out the window, I highly recommend stopping by Friendly Computers. Talk to Bill, he's the man!! read more

This company did not deliver..at all! I was charged an outrageous charge for a 20 minute visit (10 of which was spent chat chatting on non computer topics) just to be told my issue could not be fixed. I was floored when I got the invoice, but I paid it. According to what I was charged, vs time spent, they charged me $130 an hour. To make matters worse, when I told my husband, he said to call someone else because the issue was completely fixable. I did and within a half hour, it was fixed. Great Experiences - Twice now I have called on Friendly Computers off Williams Drive twice now in the past couple of years and both times they have done excellent work. The first time was when one of our primary desktops just died. It was making a horrible grinding sound for a while and then would not work at all. I opened up the case and tried to figure out what was happening, but to no avail. Friendly quickly diagnosed the problem as a faulty graphics card and even installed one they had in their shop for free - labor cost only. Most recently, I was working with my son on building a custom gaming rig. We ordered all the components, read some articles, watched some Youtube videos and went at it. We got as far as hooking up the power to the motherboard to test the connections when we could not get it to work. I was frustrated enough by that point that I called Friendly and showed up with the box of parts and let them take over. By the next morning, they called to say it was ready - only the 1-hour minimum labor charge. This would have taken me days probably and who knows what we would have messed up. read more

STAY far AWAY from this make shift computer repair business/house. I have used these guys for years and was satisfied until recently I got a new service tech and he is unable to speak clearly to customers and should learn computers prior to trying to attempt to fix a computer. I spoke with the owner after the fact and all I was offered was a horrible attitude and no resolution. If you need work find a more professional business that has a better staff and trained staff. read more

Friendly Connections came over to our office after my business partner ordered a new router and access point to get us all set up with more stable internet connection (we run an online business, internet is kinda necessary). Thomas (I believe) came by on time to set everything up and was very careful to make sure our downtime was a small as possible so we can get our work done. He worked quickly, problem solving some issues he encountered ASAP before getting us all set up. Before leaving, he even made sure our phones were connected properly, and even our chrome cast in our office. Very detailed oriented, polite, and the internet has been great ever since. Yesterday, when I logged into my laptop, it said my password was not correct. BUT I know it was. I changed it with Microsoft as the instructions said but it still wouldn't work. I called Friendly Computers and spoke to Amy and she had a suggestion on how to fix it. I drove there and within less than 30 minutes my problem was solved while I waited. Amy was very knowledgeable and reassured me that if she couldn't fix the problem while I waited they could get the files I needed off the laptop. I appreciated her reassurance and excellent skills. Also their fee was reasonable, especially for the quick response. This is the 2nd time I used Friendly Computers and both times they have done an excellent job for me. Nice local business. The exterior of the store is funky and psychedelic and cozy. Interior is a small professional shop. Service was indeed friendly and helpful. They serviced our computer exactly as needed and we got our computer back the next day. They have a nice 10% off discount with your first Yelp Check-in. I agree with the fella that stated this place does not repair things that you would think they would. I took my computer in and they immediately said it was not fixable, so I went and bought a new computer and they charged me $250.00 to transfer data that they said was easy to transfer and install at my home a few blocks away. The installer showed up nearly 4 hours late, and refused to talk in order to rush through install and just kept stating he was late for his next appt. too! He left without installing lots of important things. When I called and complained about the lack of completion in setting my computer up, and explained that after the guy left and I had found 3 things missing that are vital, the front office gal said they spent 3 hours transferring one program at the shop, this in order to justify all the fees without completion of work. But the day before she forgot she had told me over the phone, that that same particular program had been a "piece of cake" to transfer. She apparently forgot that she had told me the day before that transferring the data had been really easy, so they also do fabricate things, and embellish in order to justify lack of organization. Not good! They left me without a way to backup to the hard drive,they had it backing up or trying to and refusing, it was hooked up to some strange drive that would not take a backup. I noticed upon install they checked very little of what they installed. I had to call someone out to fix all of this. They also left me without any virus control and did not bother to tell me or ask me if I wanted it installed? and it had come with the system! I went in and checked after he left, and realized he did not turn on the firewall either. He did even bother to warn me that I was running a computer without any firewall? None of this was installed when he left? Instead, he just kept saying he had to leave for another appointment and he was late. The 3 employees I met are far too inexperienced to run this place They do not know how to handle problems correctly, and they leave work unfinished, and are in a rush to get the next customer without even offering to go back and fix incomplete work. They state to customers that the boss is out of town, they are short handed and so they were rude and short of patience. The girl that runs the front tries to work on computers and be a receptionist and trouble shoot too, all at the same time! Sorry, but I need techs who "handle" issues that arise and offer to make it good. I will not go here again. Too unorganized! Very disappointing. read more

Our work office was having a lot of internet problems, so we purchased a new router that we had no idea how to set up. Our technician was actually on time and got us up and running quickly, checked all of our computers to make sure we had access, and it's been running smoothly ever since. In my book, a company that is honest is at the top of the chart. Sending a customer to a competitor for a repair you are not properly equipped to handle is a great sign of integrity. Next, be who you say you are, and I have never been to a more "Friendly" computer environment. They will speak "geek" if you need to hear it, but if you are like me, you want it in easy-to-understand lingo without being made to feel stupid. Then, deliver. I have been back to Friendly on more than one occasion (and will go back again) because they get the job done, do it right, do it quickly, and stand behind what they do. Be fair. The prices at Friendly are as good as I have found, better than most. Along with what they charge for has come a plethora of free advice, from storage and back-up solutions, to security options, to equipment and upgrades, to maintenance recommendations - short and long-term. Finally, be consistent. I don't hesitate to recommend Friendly because everyone I have sent to them has had the same high-quality experience I have enjoyed. We have used Friendly Computer for years, but as the company grew, they seemed to have troubles. Multiple times they stated trying to reach us by phone but we have a receptionist here 8-5 and even an answering service after that. No messages ever. The service has declined and we will not be using them in the future. Great for small things but not good with larger companies. read more
