My friend and I have been coming to this place to feed our family over the past 5 months on spontaneous weekends. Typically when we are CRAVING it, because it use to be that good! EVERYTIME we come, we spend A LOT of money! As we have a pretty big family. We've recommended the place to almost everyone we know because aside from the delicious food we are always greeted and treated with great hospitality. Today we were not greeted with the same smiles and big personalities. Although not rude, it was not the vibe we were use to. After ordering and leaving a tip we paid $152.34. When we receive our food 20-35 minutes later. We take it to the car, typically the food is amazing so no need to check the bag. We took a sip of the Koolaid and it tasted like FAUCET water and lack of flavor, which is typically the complete opposite of what we are use to. When we got to the house and distributed everyone's food (3- fish combos, 1- gumbo, 2- deserts) the shrimp was SEVERELY over cooked(looked as if they redropped old shrimp), macaroni was beyond flavorless and there was a this coat of what looked to be a pile of cheese, greens had a VERY weird taste, banana pudding looked as if it had been sitting for DAYS(the Nilla Wafers disintegrated when scooped out), the pie crust to the sweet potato pie wasn't cooked all the way through. The fish was decent, the yams were the star of the show. Sadly we will not be back, for that money and amount of time we waited we expected the same food and service we typically get when coming. Friends we had recommended to eat here texted, after seeing us post we were there, saying the food is awful and they gave it to homeless. It's very unfortunate as we've NEVER had this experience, but definitely left a horrible taste in our mouths. For almost $200 we were forced to eat the food. I'm originally from the south and damn do I miss true southern soul food! I've gone all over the bay since moving here looking for something remotely similar and have left feeling a little bit disappointed every time, but that all changed when I stepped in Frickin Fried! Everything about the environment, from the music to the warm welcome, made me feel like I was back home hanging out with my family waiting to eat Sunday night dinner. This was very disappointing, I'm sad to say I don't think I'd return and it definitely wasn't worth the delivery fees from ordering through UberEats. I ordered: Catfish and Chicken Combo, Dirty Rice, Mac n Cheese, and Banana Pudding. Is catfish supposed to taste like I'm licking the walls of a dirty fish tank? If yes, PERFECT. If not....RIP. The breading seasoning wasn't bad, but I still heavily relied on tartar sauce and ketchup to make it go down easier. Wings? Nah. Bland and honestly kinda sad, not enough crunch. Cornbread, not bad. Crumbly but not too dry. Garlic fries were seasoned well but the thick cut fries were not my favorite, they're too mushy/soft. The dirty rice looked beautiful, but it was so salty. I will be making rice later and mixing it in to mute the saltiness. I heavily dislike when people make mac n cheese where the oil hella separates from the cheese and call it good. The banana pudding was the best thing I ordered....but packaged vanilla pudding and Nilla wafers will make anything delicious. This food was awful!!! I ordered catfish and I don't know what that was but it was not catfish. It was super salty and rubbery. The greens was under cooked and reasonless my daughter said the yams was ok. The cornbread was mushy the fried lobster was little dry. I spent over $120 and I regret all of it. The people was nice but the food sucks. I end up going to Popeyes chicken to get a real Friday night dinner. I hope the can improve because I love supporting Black owned businesses. Tried this place for the first time after I seen it on TikTok & it was very good . I ordered the party chicken wings (seasoned to the T!), macaroni and cheese, cornbread, & peach cobbler on the side. Now, I was really surprised to taste the chicken and how seasoned it was. It's rare that you find a soul food place with well seasoned chicken, in my opinion. Saw a post on Instagram about this place and since were in the area decided to try it. It is small restaurant but the customer service is wonderful. Very friendly people. All the staff we encountered was very nice. They gave us a sample of peach cobbler and barbecue chicken when we were waiting for our order it was very good. My son loved the chicken sandwich. The pice of chicken inside was huge and very tasty. My husband had the catfish it was delicious and so was the coleslaw. I had the dark meat chicken. It was very good. My only complaint was that the chicken was so small it almost looked like Cornish hen size but it was so tasty I got over it . The greens were good and so was the cornbread it was very moist. The mac and cheese was was ok. We then got desert. The fried Oreos were so delicious. I we also tried the caramel cake and the 7 up cake both were good too. Definitely my go to place for a southern fried chicken cooking. Good full size chicken wings portion along with your choice of the sides, can't beat it! The staffs are friendly and courteous, place seems small but definitely worth the drive, pick it up, and head back home so you can enjoy your wings while relaxing & watching TV..... Decided to try this place out after seeing it pop up on yelp a few times. Happy that I did. The portions were very generous and the food was delicious. I had been wanting to try alligator for years so I got the catfish and alligator combo. The gator was great, with a little bit of a gamey flavor as I like with meat. The catfish was great and the breading was the right thickness. Some cornbread is bland but theirs was the right amount of sweetness, amazing cornbread. I love mom and pop places such as this and we need to support more of them rather than chain restaurants. They were extremely hospitable and it felt like we were part of the family. This is now my new favorite soul food source in the Bay Area. The Basa catfish is (so far) my favorite, and the Mac and cheese and the cornbread are a close second. The collard greens were not bad either. My wife got the fried chicken (dark), fried okra, and chicken gizzards. It was all good. We did takeout, so I appreciated the service when they brought the food out to our car. As others pointed out there is very limited seating so I hope they do well enough to get more space someday. I am so happy I read the reviews after ordering over $100 worth of food. Upon entering, we were met with the friendliest face and personality who welcomed us in. The staff who took our order was also very friendly. We went to sit outside to wait (ONLY 20 MINS, for a LOT of food) and he brought us out our drinks while we waited, and even turned on the heater that was outside because he saw we were cold. The food? Nothing short of AMAZING. We got the oxtails, greens, catfish, chicken, yams, Mac & Cheese, shrimp, peach cobbler, fries and koolaid ... I believe that it is all. They had a very extensive menu, and the dessert case let me tell you had a flash to my childhood at my grandma's. My son and I got the four wing plates with greens and Mac n cheese. They gave us a sampler to try the shrimp tempura, yams and mac & cheese. Yams were good. Shrimp tempura was nothing special. My fiancé said the Mac & cheese was good. It has so much potential but there is a bitter after taste Indo not like. Is it horseradish? It's a good sauce but that taste creep up on you. This was my 1st time here. The owners are really nice so I really wanted to like this place. I ordered the smothered pork chops but was really disappointed because it looked so good but it was too salty for me to enjoy (the flavor was there though). Portions are good and I liked the cornbread and collard greens. Not sure if the salt issue was just an off day or what. I really want to enjoy this place, but I can't seem to get over the fact that every time I order catfish it is either over cooked or very dark which I don't understand. I don't know if it is the oil that they keep reusing or what but I am not a fan of overly cooked fried fish. The sides and desserts are good though.
