Frevo was our first Michelin multi-course experience and we had an absolutely wonderful evening here. Having an intimate front row seat to the orchestra of chefs behind the counter was something we'll always remember. Sweet Nori - incredibly fresh, a great start Artichoke - This donut's crisp exterior leading to a soft, artichoke cream filled center definitely boosted this to my second favorite course. Loved it! Carrot - We were excited by the range of textures (foam, soup, AND ice cream) and the many preparations of carrot in this unique dish. Focaccia - The focaccia was perfection... perfectly salted, aged, and fluffy with a wonderful crust. I could take or leave the stracciatella accompaniment, but so delicious. Bluefin Tuna - INSANELY GOOD. This dish was the most beautiful and by far our favorite. The citrus, avocado, pineapple, and lightness of the tuna was just spot on. The perfect bites. Sea Bass - I'm a saucy lady so I'm all about a good sauce for fish. The fish almost melted in your mouth and the sauces depicted the art in the foyer of the restaurant. Iberico Pork - I thought this was a tad too spicy for me, but we enjoyed the sauce a lot and were surprised the portion was so large. 36-Month Comte Cheese - We thought the ice cream and honeycomb were incredible, but we would've preferred smaller shavings of cheese to better blend the two flavors. Strawberry - The strawberry was a great balance of tart and sweet. The arugula ice cream was the perfect pairing, I'd have been the happiest lady to take home a gallon of it. Add-On - We decided to add the white chocolate dessert flower to the meal and it tasted absolutely incredible. No regrets there at all! The staff were all very attentive, friendly, and explained exactly how every item was to be enjoyed throughout the evening. We had great service all throughout. I only have two critiques: 1) I really wish they offered classic cocktails as I'd have loved an old fashioned or french75 with my meal. 2) I'd agree with another reviewer that several of the dishes did lean a bit too acidic/sour. If you're new to Michelin-starred dining or fine dining in general, you might find Frevo's paint-by-numbers, utterly predictable, "French-inspired" menu interesting. We were bored almost comatose by it. Let's break down those numbers: - Small bites to kick things off that are more interesting than the main courses? Check. In this case, the Sweet Nori (shrimp aji, trout roe, shishito pepper) and Artichoke (truffle, doughnut). Both were good, both totally common. - Asian flavors (usually Japanese) incorporated throughout to give the menu an "international" edge (and also because Western/European flavors are boring)? Check. Nori this, shishito that, kombu X, yuzu Y....you get what I'm saying. - The seafood course that's basically deconstructed Japanese kaiseki fare? Yup. In this case, the Bluefin Tuna course with pineapple and kombu. See also, the Sea Bass dish with white asparagus and yuzu kosho (I kid you not). - The random spotlight dish on one pedestrian ingredient? Yup. For Frevo, this was the Carrot course, done in more ways than you knew carrot could be done. Bugs Bunny would have been proud. - The random bread course that's a really big deal for some reason but you never get enough bread to last more than one course? Check. In this case, Frevo's crisp, housemade Focaccia, which was served with just enough stracciatella to provide a small jolt of carb-y goodness but not enough to accompany us through our next course. - The obligatory meat course with sad slab of meat accompanied by sad side vegetable? You know it. For Frevo, they at least wrapped their sad meat (Iberico Pork) with their sad vegetable (cucumber)....but it was still sad enough to make angels cry. - Multiple dessert courses that never quite hit the spot? Si. We got a 36-Month Comte Cheese and honey mixture (the most interesting one), followed by a wild strawberry tart with arugula ice-cream (berry tart and lettuce ice-cream sound better on paper than in reality), and a couple of petit four nibbles whose flavors I've completely forgotten. Ultimately, Frevo is an expensive, beautifully plated nap that left me wishing they had spent less time deconstructing carrots and more time designing a memorable meal. If you're looking to actually be inspired by what's on your plate, save your money and look elsewhere--you'll find more culinary soul in a street taco. read more

I did like the fish, wagyu, carrot, and compte cheese dish to some extent, but the recurring theme was still sour after sour dish. Whole time I wanted it to end. 1. Sweet nori- Very fresh, but acidity overpowered- SOUR 2. Butternut squash - filling overpowered the truffle on top, was like eating a filled donut- curried filling inside I think- NOT SOUR 3. Carrot- one of my favorites , pickled carrots though.... so yeah sour theme again. At least the icecream balanced it out more-I was starting to guess but not yet where the theme was going- SOUR 4. Focaccia, good. I think it was aged for a while. Preferred it without dipping into the burrata cheese surprisingly. Plain without dipping but something about the cheese was missing. -Bread slightly sour almost like light sourdough-SOUR 5. Bluefin tuna- very fresh, then masked by sourness again. Idk what is with the theme. Keep everything and remove whatever was making it acidic- SOUR 6. Sea bass- nicely cooked overall very soft. I tasted each part of the sauce first before eating everything as a whole. Again whats with the sour theme? This one had Squid ink, yuzu I think, some sort of berry sauce as well. -SOUR 7.Wagyu- really liked the crust, nothing standout by itself, I woulda sous vide it, who cares about traditional ways. What made it taste better was when the perilla leaf was added. Without the leaf, the sauce, cmon, the sour again. Like cmon leave the smokiness of that special crust.-SOUR 8. 36 month compte cheese- One of my favorites, cheese and honey is always a good combo. Forgot what the icecream was- not another sour dish so good-NOT SOUR 9. Citrus- you see where this fits in? Yet another sour dish. Citrus tart and I forgot the fruits name for the sorbet. The whipped cream definitely helped, glad it was included to tone down the acidity- SOUR 10. Ending little bites The pistachio and the ball with juice inside. Sorry dont mind the names Pistachio, good small bite. Ball with juice, was like chocolate i think on outside, inside sour juice yet again-SOUR Tastewise 6.5, maybe if Im nice a 7/10 Honestly I was bored by the time the tuna dish came around. All I could think of was, Is the theme "sour"? I get the menu changes, maybe I just chose to come during the wrong theme for me. This restaurant has been on my list for a long time and we had high expectations, but unfortunately was let down. The menu looks really good and it started off strong, but then went downhill from there. For the artichoke, definitely add the uni -- it made it so much better (though wish they added more uni). We did one carrot and one carabinero to try both -- honestly just stick with the carrot, it's not worth the additional money. The others didn't have great flavors and textures overall, quite forgettable. There's just too much going on sometimes. I didn't like the cheese with the penultimate dessert. The wine list was fine, but definitely overpriced. We paid a hefty price for a mediocre dinner and would've much rather spent that money elsewhere. WOW where do I even begin? First of all, this isn't just a textbook copied and pasted Michelin star restaurant, this is a cool Michelin star restaurant hidden inside a snug art gallery. The entrance to the restaurant is literally through a piece of artwork! The vibe was upscale without being stiff and cold. The entire staff was lovely. We love an open kitchen view so we opted for the counter seating ($245pp). The seating comes with 9 courses, two being desserts-- it doesn't seem like a lot, but we didn't leave feeling hungry. The timing of each course was perfect. We didn't feel like the meal was dragging on or that we were being rushed. The food itself was good, I don't really have any complaints. There were some stand out dishes such as: butternut squash (with uni supplement), pretzel with the smoke tofu spread (so so good), wagyu & the 36 month comte cheese dessert (THIS was divine, what a perfect way to end the meal. Frevo was a cool dining experience striking balance between casual, fine dining and bit hipster. Located behind an art gallery, you wait among the artwork until the seating starts. The restaurant is a bit low lit but lighting focuses on the food. Staff immediately greet you with plenty around and are quite personable and attentive. They have some private tables in addition to counter. Counter seat spacing was great for respecting noise and wasn't loud to me. The dishes definitely reflect the artsy theme and had nice presentations. Highlights were the carrot/red curry, zucchini/curry and sea bass/yuzu with bright colors, looked like a painting in the plate and they all were just explosions of flavor. The other dishes were solid but not too memorable. Texture contrast seemed a theme and I found them fun to eat. The wine pairing had diverse geographic offerings with some interesting pairings - my favorite was with the Guinea fowl getting poured chateau musar 2018 and 2003 vintages for direct comparison - fun! Dessert hazelnut/peach was delicious and I got the optional add on dessert - chocolate flower by LYSEE that was so decadent and beautifully made. My boyfriend had been to Frevo a few times before and really liked it, so we picked this restaurant for his birthday dinner. First off, the vibe was just PERFECTION. Loved the gallery/speakeasy-esque entrance, adoredddd the combination of dark wood + minimalistic interior design, and the very close open kitchen. Service was top-tier-- I've been to my fair share of fine dining/michelin star restaurants, and I have to say the service at Frevo was top notch. Note that if u bring ur own wine/sake, the cover charge is $100. Also note that sake did go well with our food choices, but we kind of wish they had another glass? The glass we got was not the best for our sake. Food was overall really good, but some things were better than others. For a brief review of the dishes we had: - Japanese mackerel: 10/10 (really good mackerel with crunchy seaweed wrapped around it! It was kind of salty and the next appetizer was a bit smoother/blander in taste, so I did kind of wish they changed the order to prevent the second appetizer from getting lost) - Artichoke: 10/10 (it was like a soft cheesy and truffley koroke!! Loved ittt but again the taste was a bit lost in my mouth because the previous appetizer was soo strong in taste) - Spanish carabinero: 7/10 (I paid an extra $42 per person for this but honestly... this was my least favorite dish that we had. Everything about Frevo is spectacular - from the front gallery art curation, to the meticulous attention to detail in every dish - not to the mention the quality and flavor of each, to the attentive care of all staff, to the beautiful space, to all the unexpected and small surprises that will leave you ready to return tomorrow! I had incredibly high hopes for Frevo, a 1 star Michelin restaurant, but it was a complete disappointment. For two people, we ended up spending $1,200, and absolutely nothing stood out. The menu was bland; the only remotely interesting dish was a donut course, but adding Hokkaido uni was another $32. Eating them together was not it. Eating the uni alone highlighted the lack of freshness in the uni they sourced Even a basic soup had an upcharge just to add protein which was a king crab for $72. The size of the king crab meat was as big as my index finger. I could go to a seafood restaurant and get more protein for that price. I added the wine pairing which was served by people with thick accents but the actual selections it made zero sense with the food. There was no creativity, no cohesion--just a show with no substance. Skip this place...your money and time are better spent elsewhere. I spent less at Le Benardin and French Laundry which are both 3 star Michelin rated and had 10x better meals, pairings, and service. read more

I'm typically not the biggest fan of Michelin star restaurants, because I find the dishes to be overly complex, lukewarm, or not filling. However, this was not the case with Frevo - each dish here was executed with a lot of thoughtfulness and each one provided a very interesting experience. I left feeling satisfied and that I tried many new concepts. The allure of this restaurant is that it's hidden behind an art gallery. From the street looking in, you see a small room with art pieces on the wall. However, one of the pieces is actually a door that leads to the dining room of Frevo. Previously they had large paintings on the wall but they've replaced them with neon light art. I actually preferred the paintings because the neon light art made me feel like I was walking into an escape room (sorry not sorry) and it doesn't feel as special now. The dining room is set up omakase style, where you sit at a bar and are served each course in that way. I don't think I'm the biggest fan of this either, because the servers would awkwardly sneak up behind you and hover there and maneuver the plates from behind your shoulder in an attempt to serve your entire party at once (I mean, isn't the point of the bar?To serve it from behind the bar?) It's also not the best environment for larger parties because it doesn't create a space for conversation. I only saw one table in the corner that could seat a party of 4-5. So, Frevo is best reserved for a date night and not a group get together. I did like that the bar allowed the diners to view the preparation of the dishes. And that the chefs who prepared them had the opportunity to present some of the dishes themselves. I thought the charcoal grilled preparation of the Madai course was so intricate and interesting. All the dishes were very good. I particularly loved the Butternut squash (fried ball perfection), the milk bread (soft buttery heaven), and the chocolate with wasabi (an excellent rich ending to the meal). All the ingredients had a purpose and contributed to some unique aspect of the dish it was in. For instance, the truffle in the butternut squash really complimented the overall earthy flavors of the squash and the brown of the ball, rather than simply existing as truffle. The chocolate dessert was so rich that the wasabi was a necessity to cut through and balance the flavors. During the meal you have the option of choosing the zucchini dish or the langoustine. The langoustine is $65 extra and it is much better than the zucchini - I tried some of my friend's zucchini and I found it to be very underwhelming. But I wish that the $65 paid for the langoustine means that you get BOTH dishes instead of simply subbing the zucchini with the langoustine. Typically, I see paid options as EXTRAS on top of the meal instead of the diner having to make the choice to lose the experience of trying the dish it's substituting. The service I thought was good but not incredibly good (or at least not up to the level that the food is). We had an order mix up and the wine suggestions were just okay (I don't even know if the suggestions came from a sommelier). The servers were kind and professional but they didn't go out of their way to make the experience special, like at some other Michelin starred restaurants I've tried. I came here to celebrate my birthday and enjoyed every dish. You enter through an art gallery door, like a speakeasy, and are treated to artistic dishes. Starting with a kinmedai fish wrapped in seaweed with a hint of sweet candy on top. The uni with the butternut squash was one on my favorites. The milk bread was unique and came with smoked tofu spread. The zucchini three ways was amazing as the sauces they make are unique and are masterful creations that pair so well. I also liked the fluke which had an interesting foam on top. The fatty tuna was also a highlight and was unforgettable as it is paired with a light avocado ice cream and gazpacho. The main dishes included a hake fish with tagliatelle pasta on top. The lamb was crusted and cooked to perfection paired with chanterelles. The strawberry dessert also came with an ice cream and was refreshing. The plating was beautiful including the plates and bowls themselves. I also received some i cream with a candle to make a birthday wish and saw many others celebrating their birthdays as well. Finally, we had hazelnut on a cookie and an interesting pineapple candy to end the meal. Absolutely stunning dishes while also getting to see the chefs cook in front of us was a great experience. KenScale: 9.0/10 Visit: September 2023 Before we left NYC for DC a few years ago, my wife Jun and I went on a little tour of fine-dining restaurants we had visited while living in Manhattan. One of the revelations during that tour was Frevo, which we had visited in 2019 for Jun's birthday. Back then, we remembered the restaurant, secretly tucked behind an art gallery in Greenwich Village, as a very good modern French restaurant but perhaps still a bit evolving to fully showcase its culinary philosophy. When we visited again in 2021, however, we were both surprised how much the restaurant had improved. We also became closer to the Portuguese restaurateur Bernardo Silva and the Brazilian chef Franco Sampogna on that visit, and since then whenever we visited NYC, Frevo became one of our go-to restaurants to visit (along with other favorites like Atomix and Aska). We always had a great time at the restaurant (I still can't forget about the collaboration dinner the restaurant held with the acclaimed French restaurant Florilège in Tokyo last summer), and it was great to see Bernardo and chef Franco greet us like old friends. Over the summer in 2023, the restaurant was closed for renovations and reopened in late August. We went up to NYC in mid-September as I was planning a surprise big 40th birthday party for Jun in Manhattan. Since we had really only one night for restaurant dining during that trip, I decided to take her to Frevo and see how the restaurant had transformed. While the layout of the restaurant had not dramatically changed, we both liked how the counter now had wooden color to give more warmth to the dining space. More importantly, the menu had upgraded even more and we had quite a memorable meal. Jun remarked when we sat down how she could see chef Franco's menu had evolved from a more classically French cuisine to one that is more globally influenced. Maybe the collaboration with chef Hiroyasu Kawate at Florilège further inspired him to introduce new ingredients and techniques outside the previous boundary in which he was operating. That gradual yet impactful evolution, we both agreed, was executed with remarkable precision and ingenuity, starting with delicious bites like kinmedai fish in seaweed wrap like a playful take on sushi or artichoke-flavored pastry with Hokkaido sea urchin (which we gladly added as a supplement on top) that Jun was absolutely in love with. Last time we had visited the restaurant during the Memorial Day weekend, Jun also absolutely enjoyed a stunning dish of cuttlefish and quinoa with leche de tigre sauce and we were both glad it was back again during this meal. Instead of a standard bread menu, the restaurant surprised us just like our last visit with naan and tofu-based paste. Other savory dishes that followed, like the fresh amberjack in tomato-flavored broth and accompanied by beetroot granita and the carrot mousse with orange beneath, would also be stars at any other fine-dining restaurants. The best dish of the night for me belonged to the sea bass that was grilled to perfection and accompanied by lentil and caviar supplement (full disclosure: the restaurant graciously comped the caviar which would have set us back $55 per person) to give a wonderfully complex mix of flavor. I'm glad the restaurant decided to include the always delightful Comte cheese with honey and truffle as part of the regular menu instead of an optional supplement. The main dessert of the night, a rich mound of chocolate with a hint of wasabi and porcini mushroom, was another fine example of how much the restaurant had elevated its craft when it comes to sophistication and elegance. The restaurant used to be one of the best bargains among the fine-dining restaurants we had visited, and even now with the dinner ticket at $225 per person, I still believe it is one of the best steals in NYC. As always, the globally sourced wine list curated by the young sommelier Quentin Vauleon is superb and more than makes up for the fact that Frevo have a cocktail menu. The added warmth from the renovated dining space makes the restaurant one of the most unquestionably romantic places to enjoy a special evening. Despite all the amazing experiences we had had at Frevo, Jun and I sometimes wondered why the restaurant had not been getting the level of accolade we think it deserves (even after securing the first Michelin star); for instance, I believe Frevo would now easily be at least a three-star restaurant in New York Times. In any event, we don't necessarily mind that the restaurant is still flying a bit under the radar in the New York dining scene, and are glad to keep Frevo our best-kept secret in our culinary journey for a long, long time. read more

Celebrated birthday there one day. The moment we walked in it was already very mysterious about the hidden wall. The counter setup within the restaurant was very cute. You'd think it looks relativey dim/intimate inside, but it's loud and busy with the half open kitchen. Service was aveage, nothing impressive. Chefs got so busy in the kitchen - though quite a joy for us to watch them preparing each courses - they did seem like jammed in a limited space and were rushing through making the courses pretty intensely. To be more nitpicking, you will notice tiny flaws of presentation of the dishes when you compare one to another. This is what I see as room for improvement for them. A more mature open kitchen would leave customers the impression of them staying busy without losing their pace. As to food, we were overally happy about the courses. They offer the interesting fusion of European+Asian cuisine, and nothing excessive - everything balanced well. Each course has its uniqueness and varies by taste - creative and we enjoyed every bite. And in the end they gave us menu for keeping. Overall, nice good, great vibe and setups, beautiful and chic art concepts in and out. The venue is medium sized with a long chef counter and several tables in the back. We sat at the counter watching the chefs prepare our meal. Overall, the tasting menu was good. The food was well prepared with some inconsistencies between taste profiles. The milk bread was my favorite o I hope they keep that on the menu. Service was great as everyone was attentive. We had a wonderful experience here. The art exhibit at first was a great touch, limited art options to view but nice to start the evening and unique. The staff went above and beyond and had wonderful and friendly personalities. We had fantastic food options and great paired wine. The taste of each dish was unique and well thought out. We really enjoyed our evening here and would highly recommend this spot for a night out. We were surprised this location only has 1 star, it deserves 2 for sure. We were impressed considering we have been to many 2&3 Michelin stars and this spot really holds up well. TLDR: I've seen and heard so much about Frevo that my expectation was ridiculously high. Frevo exceeded those expectations and has become one of my favorite dining experiences in the city. Spontaneously saw an opening for Frevo on a weekday and took it! It's many of my friends' favorite restaurant and I've been seeing it so much on social media. Once, during a tasting at another restaurant, a patron asked me if I've ever been to Frevo and told me that I HAD to go. Afterwards, she got up from her seat, and then told everyone else that they also had to go. That experience really heightened my curiosity. Entering Frevo was such a cool experience. I've passed this gallery multiple times not realizing that it was the restuarant. Once entered, you are greeted by the host who opens a painting to reveal a modern, small seating area and bar. The only thing that is available is their seasonal tasting menu. Every single dish was memorable. Typically on a tasting menu there are a couple items that I do not care for, but everything was truly amazing. My favorite bites included: an artichoke, shiitake and black truffle filled donut; cured amberjack with jalapeño gazpacho, fried curry leaves, and almond cream; asparagus cooked in onion broth with a cashew emulsion and parsley oil; a dairy free white asparagus ice cream, shiso flowers, and caviar; aged Comte with honey truffle ice cream and truffle honey drizzle; and wasabi ice cream with a chocolate tuile and porcini syrup. ...so basically everything. Service was attentive, friendly, and open to answer any questions I had about the space and the dishes. I loved that the servers were knowledgeable about the food. Food 10/10 From start to finish, Frevo really impressed me with their tasting menu for April 2023. I loved the complex layers from the appetizer shima-aji, so many different flavors and textures from the roe and fish, and the seaweed wrapper was sharp and with a sweet kick. The fried artichoke really caught my attention, and the uni add on pairing was the perfect way to balance it out surprisingly. Their sauces were all very thoughtful, which really added to the experience and paired well with the various vegetables, fish, and meats they used. The white asparagus was a highlight, and the chocolate mousse with wasabi. SIMPLY WOW. That sure is one memorable dessert. I would've been happy if the meal ended at that, because their final few treats were just not as good and detracted from it. Atmosphere 10/10 Super cool concept of being behind a "gallery", where the artwork does change every month. I love how they highlight artists from all over the world. The interior is green tinted, quite dim actually, but that created a certain ambiance that elevated the meal. Service 7/10 To be honest, the service just wasn't as good as other fine dining restaurants, not that it was bad or anything, but they didn't ask if it was a special occasion even though it was my friend's birthday, and didn't help us with the coats at the end just sort of handed them to us. read more

Notes: Reserve via Tock. Semi-hard to get into. Interesting menu with I would say primarily French influences with a good amount of Japanese touches. A lot of nuts in dishes so if you have a cashew allergy I would definitely stay away. Mostly worth it for $198 though I think the cheese course could stay a supplement like before. I was at this interesting 1 Michelin Star restaurant with two/three others two nights ago. Several others were dining and people were dressed nicely with a few eating solely and it was pretty quiet with a relaxed atmosphere. The space is nice and the staff who was my primary waiter was friendly. Our first course or rather first bite was Shima-aji or striped jack with shiso and trout roe which was served in a miniature nori shell. This reminded me to an extent of the beginning of 63 Clinton thinks to the smoky tasty trout roe but in this case it was even tinier. Outside of this, the fish was of course fresh and the shiso added a wonderful freshness and I would describe this more as an amuse-bouche rather than a first course. The 2nd course was Artichoke with shitake and truffle which had an available supplement of Hokkaido sea urchin for $35. This was served as a donut with the other person getting a pretty substantial amount of uni on theirs but there better be for that supplement price. The donut was light but the topping was a bit too salty. The third course was Broccoli with orange and blue crab in this case served as a soup. The broccoli added crunch and a nice texture but the orange didn't work as I believe it was was candied as it wasn't really necessary with the already sweet crab. I think a more citrusy fruit would work better (perhaps passion fruit) and balance the crab better instead of putting sweet on sweet. The 4th course was Naan with tofu and shabazi which was essentially their bread course. I was surprised it was served this far through the meal. The naan was soft and delicious and better quality than most fancy Indian restaurants I've been to outside of it being less oily. The tofu was very soft essentially being a silken tofu spread and the shabazi (which is similar to zhoug, a Levantine hot sauce) added a little bit of tartness and spice but it could have used a bit more. This was alright but I think it could have been much earlier in the meal. The Amberjack with jalapeno, curry leaves, and almond was the 5th course. This was served raw and the fish had a good texture. There wasn't that many jalapenos so it kind of lacked the spiciness I would have expected and there was a little bit of sweetness (I believe online lists that there's also cashew cream in this) which works here. The almonds added some light crunch and the curry leaves were fried adding another nice texture. This was a pretty good Dish as well. The White Asparagus with cashew was a surprising highlight and was the other dish with a very expensive supplement (caviar white asparagus ice cream for $55.) The asparagus just like the dishes after this was perfectly grilled and the sweet cashew paired quite well and reminded me to an extent of Moqueca. The Madai with shimeji and yuzu koshu was made on a Japanese grill which caused a little bit of steam in the air. This consisted of a nice sized piece of fish and it was perfectly grilled possibly better than the other place I've been to. They listed that it was done on a Japanese Grill (or shichirin.) The shimeji added good flavor with my only complaint that the yuzu koshu was light resembling more regular yuzu than the former. The Zabuton Wagyu with maitake and chives was another pretty good dish and was made on the same grill. The name of the cut refers to the cut also known as a Denver steak and is part of the chuck and the flavor and spices reminded me a little bit too much of brisket outside of of course it's tenderness. The maitake was made into a foam which added some earthiness and the chive was a light sauce; perhaps too light with the rich beef. The first dessert course was 36-Month Aged Comte Cheese with honey and truffle. I watched the effort of one of the chefs shaving the cheese into small pieces per order which looked quite tiring and the cheese in particular was delicious. The truffle in this case was honey and the ice cream was also honey. I think a bit more of the ice cream would pair better. This used to be a $30 separate supplement and I think it could stay as such. The Chocolate with wasabi and porcini was the other dessert. The wasabi was an ice cream and the porcini was turned into an earthy tasty caramel and there was also a chocolate shell which I believe had some hazelnuts or some other type of nut and it had a good crunch. I generally don't like wasabi at all and thankfully there was that much of it on the plate. I mostly had it separate and after merging, it partially worked. We ended with pretty good petit fours (salted caramel choux and cardamom tart) but just like our meal, I'm out of space to write more. Mid 4. read more

Vibes: 9/10: Loved the ambiance although I think the outside part of the gallery could've been more accessible for photo taking/admiring. Everyone was sorta huddled there and didn't really admire the art fully. Food: 8/10 Quality was good but the lamb dish and the cheese one was not to my liking. Personally, I don't eat lamb but I love cheese. The cheese dish had good truffle but the overall dish was so dry. Very hard to eat and I rarely say this. The first two pieces which was a tuna piece with nori and a fried potato with uni (supplemented) were my favorites but also screamed sushi omakase but I wasn't necessarily looking for that here. Overall, I'd still come. Check Tock and book a resy. Heard the menu changes too since the website one listed several different dishes for the month of June than we saw on the physical menu when we arrived. Setting and service are top notch. The food aims high too but unfortunately fell short. Art gallery entrance. One of the frames swivels out and opens into a dark but comfortable dining room with a large counter around an open kitchen. The surprisingly large staff buzz around attentively, prepping and delivering dishes and silverware, and topping up wines. Pacing was French and we ended our meal 3 hours after our rez, but no doubt it was partly our fault as one diner was a few minutes late, and our eating pace was slowed by conversation. That said, I didn't feel rushed (much appreciated) and we still weren't the last diners when we left. On to the actual food. Like I said, they're aiming high with good ingredients and interesting combinations. Still, some of the compositions didn't make a lot of sense like caviar on ice cream. Others, I think we're failures of execution, like an excessively salty cut of wagyu or a delicate madai overpowered by sauce. But, at least it was never boring. There's a good experience here but perhaps my expectations were too high given my friend's enthusiastic recommendation. read more

We ate at Frevo earlier this week and had a truly transporting meal. This place deserves more than one Michelin star. Every single dish was...exciting. The carrot with almonds was especially complex. Many of the combinations were ones I had never seen before, e.g. ice cream with Comte cheese. But weirdly it worked. It is VERY expensive though. We ate at Kochi last night and Frevo is really an order of magnitude better even though they are both one stars. read more

I was fortunate enough to make it in to Frevo with friends to celebrate my birthday. We had the 9pm seating and showed up right around time to wait inside the gallery. After the exciting entrance (via a picture!) we were seated at the bar and the experience got started. We had the July 2023 menu with the wine pairing, so enjoyed a series of 10 courses. I really can't say that anything was a negative. From the truffle shitake donut and naan to the lamb and aged cheese, everything was well presented and tasted amazing. The wine pairings were also great to enhance the flavors of each course. Service was exceptional. The servers and sommeliers did a great job of explaining everything and were attentive throughout the evening. We really felt taken care of! The ambiance is also on point. Apart from the speakeasy restaurant vibe, being able to sit at the bar and enjoy the action made for an even better experience. Overall, I can't recommend Frevo enough. Frevo was a work of art! I arrived at the entrance with several paintings on the wall and a group of people were waiting there. Then one of the paintings opened and we walked into the actual restaurant. I thought this was the most unique and entertaining entrance! We sit down on the bar and were able to watch the chefs do their magic. Our servers were very attentive and nice. Their food were really pieces of art, my soup truly looked like a painting in the bowl as you see from the photos. The taste was so carefully planned out between each course and each combination. It was truly a wonderful experience to be able to dine at Frevo. Very deserving of its Michelin star. I would recommend to anyone looking for an upscale yet unique and interesting dining experience! read more

The gallery entrance was a nice gimmick. Food was good - the main protein better than the starters. Both of the fish dishes were delicious along with the wagyu beef but I didnt bother finishing up the soup and preferred the birthday dessert over the regular dessert.
