So cozy it may as well have been Oscar's living room. Chicken and waffles were a daunting task, but a rewarding one. Overall a nice, cozy experience for brunch.

We just had another amazing dinner at Oscar's Place on Hudson St in the West Village. The food is excellent and the service top notch. Best Beef Stew and Fish and Chips you'll ever have. The Trout Almondine is superb. Great mussels too! Oscar's is exactly the perfect little restaurant you'd want right around the corner in Greenwich Village. Warm and cozy (especially in the wintertime) it's like dining in your grandmother's kitchen. Say "hello" to Trinidad and Crispin when you go!

    Fish n' chips

This place felt like a no-frills fish n' chip shop that one could come across in London (or somewhere in Belgium for that matter!). It's a very small, but cozy restaurant, and one could tell that those that own it care about the space and how well organized, clean, and put together it is. The sense of minimalism and European food brands (ex. malt vinegars) add charm to the simple setting giving off a non-pretentious, relaxed, ambience. The waiter was friendly and efficient. Now for the most important part: the food! The fish n' chips are deliciously superb. The cod tasted fresh. The batter was light, crispy, and spiced well. What was noteworthy was the tartar sauce. It has a unique tang to it that made the fish n' chips refreshing despite the fact that it's deep-fried. Maybe it was a usage of lime and celery? The chips were nice and crispy, but you could definitely taste the potato still. I ate the whole plate. A pleasant experience. I know where I'll go to get my fish n' chips next time I'm in Manhattan.

BEST SALMON BURGER IN THE CITY. Place is really tiny but the food and staff are great. Everyone is so friendly, it feels like you're walking into their home. The salmon burger is always fresh! Not sure what's in that sauce but I can eat this everyday. Served with the crispiest French fries. They give complimentary bread and butter to start and the bread is so fluffy and toasted perfectly. Love love love!

Glorious fish & chips. Thought I couldn't finish such a generous portion, but I did!

Appearances can be deceptive. This tiny (16 seats) place isn't real pretty, but boy can they cook! The friendly staff bring masterful fish & chips - a full beautiful fillet with paper thin coating, perfectly cooked. Fries that were cut onsite, not from a bag. Butternut squash soup generously served and scrumptious. Surprising menu options from their English/Belgian background, like a steak and kidney dish, bangers and mash, and tarte tatin (simple but exacting as to technique). My friend's halibut was perfect, the lovely sauce kissed with garlic. My only wish (aside from them moving next door to me) is brighter lighting which this lovely food deserves. And the prices are actually reasonable!

Met a friend in the neighborhood for brunch. We had made reservations online but if you go early enough, or maybe get lucky, you won't need them. During the summer they had outdoor seating. The dining area is tight, with only a few tables inside and essentially in the kitchen. The server was helpful, gave recommendations for different options and kept checking in on us. Opted for the eggs cocotte for something lighter and the mash of the day, which I believe had roasted leeks. Eggs were cooked well, salad was a nice contrast, and rich mash. With a day filled with activities ahead of me, it took every bit of will power to not order a full english. But next time, I absolutely will.

It was my favorite part of the meal and that dish was absolutely cleared. The sauce reminded me of butter chicken and the lemon was so juicy, the perfect splash of acidity to the prawn. Hamachi crudo was unique tasting with the green mango, tamarind, and curry oil. The peri peri chicken was very moist, most of the flavor is coming from the buttermilk ranch and peri peri sauce though, so I like that they included sauce on the side! I also loved the chicken nugget that came with the dish more than peri peri chicken itself. Hope they do chicken nuggets with their ranch and peri peri sauce as an appetizer some day. Braised oxtail gratin was a wee bit spicy and tingly, but well seasoned. The crispy cheddar polenta and onions were my favorite part of that dish. Blood orange cheesecake was good as well, just a wee bit pricey based on the size of the slice. We were a party of 7 and we walked in on a Sunday dinner, and there was no wait. There was a wedding nearby in the restaurant, so it was a bit loud, but it was a good vibe. We ordered a bunch of dishes, such as the Platou Taranesc, Salata Bouef, Pomana Porcului, Pastrama, Mititei, Sarmale, Papanasi, and Coltunasi Platou Taranesc - country plate, basically bread and cold cut, Romanian style. It was a good experience but something I would normally not go out of my way for, since I don't like cold cut. But it is worth trying since Romanian food has a lot of cured meats and such, so the variety here is apparent Salata Bouef - bouef salad. Not beef salad. It is like a potato salad with chicken and veggies. Fairly hearty despite looking like small portions Pomana Porcului - traditional style pork fried meat - does not look fried, but it is a bit cured. A bit tough, maybe that's how they prepare it, but nonetheless flavorful. Pastrama - lamb pastrami - also a bit tough but cured. I liked the flavors but definitely need to eat it like a fork and knife style, not one bite Mititei - Romanian skinless sausages - kind of like a kofta (ground beef) and I loved this meat dish the most Sarmale - stuffed cabbage roll - one of the best cabbage rolls I have tried. Manageable size for each roll, and the cabbage has just the right amount of softness and the filling is super flavorful. Would recommend this 100% Papanasi - Romanian donuts - they say 2 pieces but the pieces are huge and sweet and hearty. A great way to conclude the meal, and enough to feed 4+ people after a nice meal Coltunasi - dumplings - we got beef. These are good but did not stand out. A nice starter Service was amazing and deserving of the auto 20% gratuity. The only miss is the water refills are not as frequent but the server gave us some sides on the house and gave us amazing recommendations of what to try for food for the first time and brought out everything we needed to enjoy the meal.

Seating is first-come, first-served, and guests are placed based on availability, which keeps things fair and efficient even during busy times. The tables for two are intimate and cozy, perfect for conversation, though they can become a bit tight when ordering several dishes at once. That said, the staff was attentive and checked in often enough to clear plates and make room, which made the experience much more comfortable. The dessert menu is separate, allowing guests to enjoy their meal at an unhurried pace before deciding on something sweet. Their beverage offerings are thoughtfully presented. Herbal tea options include green tea, chamomile, and English tea (Stash), and the tea is served in a container that provides two full servings. The cappuccino is well made and served with a sugar crystal stick, adding a distinct old-world charm that enhances the café's European feel. I regret not asking for an additional order of Turkish coffee so that's a regret . What we ordered: * Greek Salad - $18.50 * Cappuccino - $6.80 * Herbal Tea - $6.00 * Uštipci - $17.25 * Musaka - $22.95 * Šnicla (Cutlet Sandwich) - $20.75 * 2 Diet Cokes - $8.00 The musaka is a baked dish and does take about 25 minutes to prepare, as it's made fresh with baked eggs, seasoned beef, and sliced potatoes layered on top. The wait is well worth it, resulting in a hearty, comforting dish that tastes authentically homemade. The Šnicla (cutlet sandwich) arrived beautifully presented on a wooden board, adding a rustic, elevated touch that matched the restaurant's aesthetic. Mom felt it lacked in seasoning but she Didnt leave any crumbs . The Uštipci were a standout--served with feta and honey, generously portioned, and so plentiful that we happily took some home. We were too full for dessert this time, but it's absolutely on the list for a return visit. Due to winter weather, we couldn't explore the back of the restaurant, but even from the main dining area, the decor is undeniably charming and full of character. Overall, Cafe Bubamara offers authentic flavors, generous portions, attentive service, and a cozy, old-world atmosphere that makes it a place worth revisiting.

Came to King for small bites with a work group and had a nice round table by the window, which felt…read morevery cozy. King is a very small restaurant with many tables nestled together. I was glad we were seated semi-private otherwise, the main area looked very bunched together. The service was excellent, our wait staff and everyone in between were attentive. The menu is much smaller than many restaurants, with 4-5 options. On one hand I like when restaurants have a smaller menu, as you know these are ingredients that are fresh to the season and that they excel in so I did not mind too much. We ordered several dishes to share, and all from the apps section. We ordered the tagliarini with white alba truffle, Cotechino (which was a mashed pork pieces, reminded me of spam, I was unimpressed), insalata, and Panisse (which was a huge hit!) My favorite was definitely the Panisse, which looked like a large french fry, but was made of chickpea! I was so pleasantly surprised and I would hands down, come back to King just for this dish! Overall, I like the creativity of this restaurant and would definitely come back for the Panisse!

The restaurant is set up with two rooms - a bar in front with 4 seats for walk-ins and reservations and small tables and a back dining room tables though are quiet close together with a lot of noise. If you're looking for an intimate dining experience I would recommend King but it's very lively! The bartender was so nice and attentive and their wine list had solid options by the glass decently priced. For food, their menu is available online and changes frequently. You start with complimentary bread - basically crispy crackers drenched in olive oil. It was pretty messy to eat and I think I would've preferred regular bread. For food, you have three options for starters - panisse, olives and finochietta - and they also allow for all three combined at smaller portions. The olives and finochietta were standard and the panisse was crispy and flavorful. For second dish I got the risotto with sage and vin santo - tasted fine like a standard risotto but so overpriced in my opinion. For main I got the halibut- this was delicious with creamy sauce of chives, hollandaise and ruby chard and cooked well. It's a decent portion for the size but definitely pricey. Overall the meal was solid but pricey for the quality, portions and options you're given and wasn't worth it to me. The menu does get updated frequently so I would be open to returning in the future, otherwise the hospitality was great!
