What a wonderful evening it was -- from the beautiful ambience and impeccable service to the delicious cocktails and charming food presentations, every detail was thoughtfully executed. The staff was warm and attentive throughout the night, and we were even invited to tour the kitchen, which was such a delightful experience . We especially enjoyed the tableside cocktail experience, and to make the evening even more special, they generously shared the ingredients with us along with an additional cocktail on the house. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I was thoroughly disappointed at my experience here. We ordered the seven course tasting menu, and I can honestly say there was only one bite I truly enjoyed - a small carrot forward amuse bouche. Okay also the kiwi dessert, and I dislike kiwis so I suppose those two items lived up the to hype? Anyway, we arrived for our reservation at 8pm and were told to wait. We were seated and waited yet again (I think the theme was "sit around, be ignored and wait"). Finally at 11pm I asked how many courses we had left to go (there were 3 more), and told them to skip the rest and just let us leave. The sturgeon was AWFUL. The crawfish overcooked and lacked any sophistication. Crab was fine, but not some revelation. Same with the risotto - even with the loaded freshly shaved black truffles. Like I said, the kiwi dessert was well done. The chocolate and dulce de leche .. "meh". They did give me a discount because I cut early which was kind. Ironically, the only staff who were genuinely welcoming was the busboy - he was telling us his story of how he came to New York from France and his American dream (I love these people and stories - AND WE ASKED!) but he was quickly ushered away by our "captain" and not allowed to speak again. I understand that these dining experiences are supposed to take time, but expecting us to stay well over 4 hours is ludicrous. Plus the food was not worth the price OR wait. Venue was very enjoyable-wonderful background music, high ceilings, amazing and vibrant artwork, soft lighting that compliments the food. Service was flawless from checkin, coat check, and in dining room. Enjoyed the five course tasting menu. All dishes served were works of art. Bravo to the kitchen team on delivery of hot, colorful and clean plates. Quality of food was stellar. It was so good I paused eating so I could consume the plate with my eyes and dream about how I could create similar dishes at home. Venison was my favorite. It was at proper temp, great flavor (not gamey), tender and the accompanying sauerkraut warmed my insides with aromatic spice. Fluke really tasty. Bread service was attentive and generous. Cheese cart was a highlight as was the kitchen tour. Thank you Chef Eddy Leroux. (Hopeful you have a wild game dinner in the future!) Truly impeccable service/ I went around the holiday season 2025 and until the end, their detail-oriented customer service impressed me, including complementary holiday dessert and take home gifts. So for service, I give 5 out of 5. I personally liked their decor more than Le Bernardin but it's personal taste. It gives modern vibe and even all the waitors seem very European looking (?), which felt like a strategic move. 5/5 For food, obviously they are Michelin so it was all good with my 5 course tasting menu. i forgot what my drink was called but even the visual was soo pretty on top of its excellent taste. The only reason why I gave 4 for overall is that the food was all very good but nothing sticks to mind after the visit. We've been to several other restaurants from Chef Daniel a few times including Le Pavilion and Le Gratin - which we always enjoyed so we were excited for our dinner reservation this past weekend. The service was as you'd expect from a fine dining experience with the gentleman for our table incredibly professional, prompt, and just in general everyone going above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The food was delicious across the board. We went with the five course and can say I enjoyed everything I had. The venison in particular was definitely one of the best I had but everything was great. Beautiful restaurant which also had subtle holiday theme for the season which was a nice touch. We also were offered a quick view of the kitchen which we appreciated as we saw just how hard the team works behind the scene. All in all a great experience we recommend. read more

I dined here several years ago when Daniel held three Michelin stars. I wondered if I could recognize why it had been downgraded to one star. (Although one star is a pretty remarkable achievement.) I would summarize the experience as gaps in attention punctuated by brief, polite, but rushed service. Virtually every conversation with hostesses, the waiter, servers, and bus staff gave me the impression they needed to rush off to somewhere else. They were not rude, but didn't give the impression that my presence was important. I arrived early and ordered a cocktail while seated in the lounge. When my table was ready, the cocktail was brought over from the bar. I was maybe 2/3 finished when someone tried to take it away. This matched the tone for the meal. Of course I was seated at a table, yet it almost seemed like a counter at McDonald's: "thank you for coming, here's your order, next!" The pacing of each course coming out was fine, although the arrival of the food and the wine could have been closer together. Service improved about halfway through my meal after other diners departed. This seems to indicate they were understaffed. In addition to the five-course prix-fixe, I asked for the wine pairing. The amuse and bread service were excellent but it was about 30 minutes before the first glass of wine arrived. It was a stellar Sauvignon Blanc that paired perfectly with the scallop carpaccio first course. But it was one of the stingiest pours I have ever seen. The remaining courses and pairings were also excellent. The Dover sole was probably my favorite but the American Waygu was also remarkable. Having been to Daniel several times, I was excited to return after being away since Covid. The greeting we received and the service in the lounge was totally on point. We had the loveliest of servers. But what followed in the main dining room missed the mark for me. We were 4 people for a 6:45pm Resy. We had a nice table on the periphery of the room tucked into a corner which was nice for conversation. We opted for the 5 course prix fixe. I avoid gluten for the most part and they get major props for excellent substitutions without changing the dishes. The scallop carpaccio was a nice starter but it didn't wow me. The fluke ordered by others was just meh. The next course was a seafood Fricasse and while cooked perfectly, it was just kinda heavy in a clunky way. The mushroom pasta broth choice definitely was better but I avoided due to concerns with gluten. The cod was gorgeous in presentation, but not the most flavorful. The tuna by others accounts was so so. The duck and pork were winners, but I didn't love my wagyu strip. It was tough to cut and I expected it to be soft given how fatty Wagyu typically is. I'd note that we were told that the salmon for two was unavailable. We looked at our neighbors who were being served that dish. It was surprising that at 6:45pm they were out of a key dish on the menu. Hard to believe a place like this doesn't have the requisite ingredients for a Saturday night. Desserts were the star for me. All 3 were gluten free for me and each one was delicious and stunning. Of course the petit fours were fab and the classic madeleines were wonderful. They sent us away with the canneles pastry and for me, French macarons. This is always a nice touch. Hubby had the wine pairing which substantively he thought was good. However, we got little explanation about the selections and there was no back and forth discussion like we love to have with most sommeliers. It might have been that the servers weren't well versed in the wine pairings. Service overall was nice but it felt a bit harried and just not nearly as special an experience as we have come to expect. We did get to peek in the fully operationally kitchen and our server took our pic which was nice. Guess I just was underwhelmed in general. Last time we ate at Le Pavillon when it first opened we were blown away. It felt like the flagship just wasn't what it used to be. I finally had the chance to dine at Daniel for my birthday and we opted for the 5-course prix fixe menu. Canapes: Excellent start. There was a uni bite I really enjoyed, though I wish I remembered the rest--it all went by quickly but set the tone nicely. Maine Sea Scallop Carpaccio: A solid beginning to the courses. The scallop paired beautifully with grapefruit--fresh, light, and delicious. Warm Seafood Fricassee: This one was interesting. It came with small pieces of snail, octopus, squid, mussels, a SINGLE small pieces of lobster, and scallop. The seafood itself was great, though the sauce threw me off--it had a peanut or nutty flavor that didn't work for me (personal preference, since I'm not a fan of nutty sauces). The squid was also a little chewy. Funny enough, while I was jotting notes on my phone, the waiter came over almost immediately to check in and even offered to replace the dish. I appreciated the attentiveness but decided to keep it. Black Cod: Served with caviar and beluga lentils. The texture of the fish was tender and cooked well, though slightly bland. Pennsylvania Duck: Perfectly cooked--medium and tender--but I wasn't a fan of the olives embedded in the duck or the pecan sauce, which I felt didn't complement the dish. Mekonga (Dessert): A dark chocolate dessert with coconut milk jam. I didn't get much of the coconut flavor, but overall it was a solid, well balanced dessert. They also served freshly baked madeleines at the end, which were decent but not particularly memorable. The chocolate piece with gold flakes looked pretty but didn't taste special, and the mini coffee macaron was a definite miss for me. At the end of the night, they invited us into the kitchen for a quick look. It was a kind gesture, though there wasn't much to see--nice touch, but not particularly rewarding... meh... Overall, I'd give Daniel a strong 4 stars. The service was exceptional--though it did slow down once the restaurant got busy, and we ended up waiting almost 30 minutes for dessert. I came here for a group event organized by our fearless leader, Jordan the one from Canada). Going to the Daniel has been one of my major NYC experiences. There two major things to love about Daniel. The staff is flawless! Some of the most professional I have ever encountered and super helpful as well. The food is amazing across three horizons. It has sensational tastes with just incredible ingredients. It also looks artistic, without overdoing it. I also like that it uses farm to table ingredients, without too scientific. I celebrated my birthday here. Upon entry, swanky bark and lounge area to the right. Followed by a walk way to the main dining area. We were presented with a beautiful table which sort of gave us access to the whole view of the dining area. The food was amazing. All 5 courses plus complementary tastings from the chef. * chef's kiss*. Every bite had me anticipating the next course. Drinks were well made, several Normandy nights did the trick. The ambiance was classy, graceful and everyone dined beautifully. The lighting and art were exceptional and added a certain je nais sais quoi. Service was amazing, all the staff I encountered were polite & helpful. My waiter Mynor -was polite, professional and generous and made the night flow perfectly. I love this restaurant! My wife and I have been here several times but the most recent visit made it incredibly special. We've always made reservations and made the dinner a dressy event. It's 100% worth it and never disappoints. Our last visit we were walking through the city and walked past the restaurant. No reservation. Dressed nicely but dressed nicely for a walk through the city - not for dinner at Daniel. No tables available but we were offered two seats at the bar. An amazing experience. As expected the service is impeccable here. They are friendly without being overbearing. Staff is very attentive noticing every fine detail to make sure your experience is the best it can be. We got seated in the dining room next to the bar and it was very cozy and comfortable. I cannot do justice to the food by describing it. You really have to experience it yourself. What a fun experience!!! One of my Toastmaster buddies that used to live in NYC recommended this place to me. I was so impressed by everything about it. Top notch service, beautiful decor, and nice ambience. Interesting crystals on display on the way to the restroom. They really make you feel like part of the family, and not only was the food delectable and with a beautiful presentation it was so cozy. Went with the tasting menu that had 9 courses. I feel in love with the butter from France Maison Bordier Le Beurre Bordier. They helped me look it up on my phone since I don't speak French. I filled up on so much bread. Had a fantastic dinner in this quintessential Upper East Side French restaurant - the experience delivers as its reputation. The dining room is elegant, brightly lit, formal, and very comfortable in seating. The decor is artsy and definitely felt French. The staff were so nice in welcoming and seem genuinely invested in engagement, chatting and in getting to know me and how to make it a great dinner for me. I wore a jacket for the occasion, which isn't required but did make me feel good. Staff operated like a choreographed team in how members placed/removed flatware/silverware and wine glasses. The drink menu has extensive options - I went with the classic wine pairing and signature Daniel cocktail, which was sweet and delicious. The wines were primarily from France- Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Savoie, Roussillon and Rhone valley. Each wine paired nicely with the courses in either enhancing or contrasting the dish well and I was given generous pours. I got the tasting menu- started off with calvados foie gras terrine - artfully presented and with enormous flavor from the foie gras. Next was long island fluke that was good but not memorable. Then was castroville artichoke - just delicious with basil, sunflower and parmesan tuile. Warm Seafood Fricassee featured snail, octopus, squid, lobster, scallop, mussels. It was fairly chewy but tasty. Now for my two favorite savory courses- the Dover sole w/ leeks and sauce monterey was just so delicious with the sauce, rich and creamy. Then the pennsylvania duck w/ fall squash, beer braised, sauce gastrique was perfectly cooked - tender, juicy, crispy skin and enhanced so well with the sauce. One of the best ducks I've had. Finally for dessert, I had wild blueberry - citrus cheesecake, herb biscuit that was sweet, light and refreshing. finally the mekonga with vietnamese dark chocolate, coconut milk jam, carmelized black sugar was a sweet and diverse way to end the dessert and meal with small bites. Daniel truly demonstrated consideration towards diners and one staff was even asking me about cuisines I liked and offered NYC recommendations in a handwritten envelope! First off, I do have to say it was a one of a kind experience from a service standpoint. It was definitely a fine dining experience. Our amuse bouche was a course in itself with four different options presented in a very creative/ornate under the sea way. There was a complimentary warm bread service. I wish we were less self-conscious and asked for more bread. They had four different options ranging from brioche to what appeared like a cheddar bagel. For my first entree, I got the foie gras followed by the abalone which was very unique in presentation and taste. The salmon course was probably one of the best salmon I've ever had. For the last entree, I chose the pork one which was not very good. I forget what I didn't like about it, but I coudn't finish it. The beef was much better, which was what my partner got. The attention to detail was bar none as one would expect (replaced my wine glass instantly when there was a speck of dust I saw, brought a stool for my wife's purse, and even the dessert round they didn't just plop a candle on an existing dessert you ordered, but added a dessert and wrote in chocolate cursive my full name) 3. Friendliness of the staff completely enhanced the typically stuffy vibes of such fine dining establishments, which was such a nice surprise 4. Food was incredible. From start to finish every dish was executed to perfection, so balanced, well developed textures, and delicate presentation 5. Living in NY last 10+ years and trying so many Michelin starred restaurants, this exceeded all my expectations 6. The cherry on top was a kitchen tour 7. Long overdue, for sure...But here goes. This place is special !!! From the entrance, the staff, the bar, the layout of the dining rooms. Everything. Even you feel special going here. We did go on a special night too; Our 3 Year Wedding Anniversary. Dressed up and ready to experience DANIEL, we were sat at a cute little table, side by side. Greeted by so many people. Waiters, Captains, Sommeliers, Servers, and even the Head Maitre D. The menu was big, full of complex food. But easy to navigate. Two options really. Five course Pre-Fix (4 courses & dessert) with optional add-ons and wine pairings or the seven course tasting menu. We chose the five course with Royal Ossetra Caviar to start. We ended up having 8 different plates {that we shared of course}. Too many to list, but highlights included Amuse Bouche, Fois Gras, Maine Lobster, Dove Sole & Monk Fish, Lamb Chops. And oh, the BREAD !! When dessert came, we were approaching a food coma, but we persevered. Quince, which was incredible and Gianduja, which was a tad arid. So the Maitre D, Matt, brought us the Maracaibo. Great recommendation. Then, they had the audacity to bring out cookies and a big hunk of cake. Honestly, I can't remember having this much food at once. Truly an incredible experience all around. Not just the food, but the interaction with the staff. The way they talk to you and with you. My soulmate and I celebrated my birthday this year at our favorite French restaurant in the city. The decor at Daniel is so beautiful with flowers in every corner of the main dining room. I love how they have a stool next to each female customer for their purse. The atmosphere is high-end with a very professional staff. We were fortunate to get our favorite server, Zack, that night. He is full of knowledge and explains every dish with so much detail. Most importantly, every dish we selected for the 5-course menu was heavenly. We only left clean plates for them to take away after each course. They brought out an extra dessert for me with a candle together with our chosen dessert. I only wished for one thing before I blew out the candle, that they would bring back the pan-seared Foie Gras to their menu. After eating all of the sweets, it was an honor to get a tour of their clean kitchen. Thanks to the entire staff at Daniel for a wonderful evening. We booked before the star demotion and came away feeling like it was not a meaningful gesture. The trend now is to hate on Daniel. We didn't notice any of the referenced slippage in the food or presentation. Our only complaints were that the dinner was excruciatingly long and the dining room was at least ten degrees too warm. I left feeling that Per Se and Gabriel Kreuther may have pulled ahead, but to suggest that this restaurant should be skipped entirely is lunacy. To be honest, most people who chase the hottest tables in NYC should probably be starting here instead--this is the essence of fine dining. read more

This meal was exquisite, but the best part was that Chef Daniel Boulud was in the restaurant that evening and talking to guests in the dining room. We were definitely starstruck when he stopped by our table. We had the five course menu with the wine pairing. For this menu, there are course selections, so we did not all get the same meal. First up is the amuse bouche, which was several items of including a tartlet, foie gras, scallop and a croquette - all beautifully presented. My husband still can't stop talking about the abalone that he had. And I really enjoyed the red mullet and duo of east coast crab - a tempura soft-shelled and a bisque. However, all the dishes were excellent. For dessert, my Raspberry selection was excellent. It's described as - Abbey Ale Ice Cream, Raspberry Sorbet, Sakura Blossom Meringue, Chantilly. Yum! My husband had Bolivia, dark chocolate mousse, and he enjoyed it. And our friend had the Macadamia, that she thought was delicious. The modern decor, soft couches, and the attention to all details of service. We went for the 5 course meal option, which included 4 courses and dessert. Each category had 3 options (except for the dessert which had 4 options) so we were able to sample most of the menu between the two of us. They had a wide ranging selection from oxtail, lobster, various fresh fish, steak, lamb. All of the meat was well seasoned and well cooked. I did feel like while the food was tasty, it lacked the wow factor in terms of taste that I expect for a restaurant of this stature. The service was amazing however - unlimited freshly baked bread (baguette and brioche were my favs) and they even provide an extra appetizer and extra round of desserts for free. Def a large enough quantity of food to satisfy and then some. PSA: technically you can order a la carte but you don't really save all that much money so probably better off going for the 5 course option read more

My husband and I went to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. What a special treat. We opted for the 9 course and wine pairing. The food was excellent. The staff was super friendly. The explanations were clear and our asking questions was received with grace and excitement to share more knowledge. We were even taken to the kitchen to capture a picture and presented with a menu booklet commemorating the date. When another milestone moment comes, I wouldn't hesitate to return. I went here for a business dinner and it was overall a phenomenal experience. Reservations are fairly easy to get in comparison to other 2 Michelin star restaurants, so that was a big plus especially for those that do not want to plan around a meal months in advance. We both got the tasting menu and shared 1 of the higher tier wine pairing, featuring vintages (two of which are of the year 2000), a great upgrade for a not-too-big price differential to the base tier wine pairing. I unfortunately, somehow, did not take a picture of the menu, but there were a few dishes that were memorable, like the abalone dish that had a puree in the abalone shell, along with the abalone itself, and the duck dish that had the right texture with not too much fat, which somewhat resembled an Asian inspired dish. The chocolate biscuits, particularly the passionfruit one, where they serve hors d'oeuvres style were also very good. It helped contrast with the numerous sweet desserts offered. There was a lot of food, and if you are not too full, the bread service that come around to your table 3-4 times throughout the course, where you can choose any amount of pieces you want, will fill you up. I tried all 4 and liked the cheese bread and multigrain the most, but I ate a small fraction of it to ensure I am not too full for the actual courses (but I was very stuffed at the end!) Service is excellent as they refill water frequently and clean out bread crumbs in between courses. When you go to the restroom, they fold the napkin for you. One occasion, my friend took a bit longer in the restroom and they put a metal cover on top of the dish so that the temperature and freshness of the dish is preserved. read more

Friendly and welcoming staff, a nicely laid out restaurant and fantastic food. For any other restaurant, any of these factors would be a nice bonus but, for Daniel's reputation these factors were expected and they did not miss the mark. Each dish was fantastic and explained in depth as it was served. The wait staff were highly knowledgeable about the meal options and beverage pairings. What really set Daniel apart though, was the experience that the staff created. The presentation of each dish was carefully laid out and presented in an almost choreographed way. Additionally, their attention to detail was almost predictive of our needs. I have never had a dining experience like my experience at Daniel. I highly recommend visiting Daniel especially if you are trying to make an evening, "a night to remember". read more

Service and ambiance were on point in my opinion. The culinary experience was however not all hits and I found it to be a cumulative 3 stars for me. For example, I really enjoyed the parsnip-celeriac veloute, but found their rendition of foie gras gelatinous and unimpressive. Furthermore, the bison seemed to have been sitting under a lamp for too long and was cooked more than medium. I felt the remaining dishes were well executed. read more

At the end of our meal Matthew, the maitre d' asked us if we wanted a tour of the restaurant...my husband had to scoop my jaw up off the floor I was so thrilled. Walking into the hustle I got a chance to see Executive chef Eddy Leroux in action--he glanced up and offered such a warm smile, I was absolutely giddy. The kitchen moved with such expertise, my standing in the way (gawking) did not at all disturb the rhythm. Matt and the rest of the staff were also very sweet, very fun, and always asked what our favorites were. If the menu were a story then some parts I loved more than others but it was a very moving experience. I got to pick the caviar for the evening so we started with the royal ossetra that they split in 2 for us. Perfect! The amuse bouche was *almost* too cute to eat, 4 different little bites of love. Then the first course, the show stopping foie gras and the sea scallops. Second course we had the squash velouté soup and the Maine lobster, third course was Dover sole and monkfish, fourth were the entrees which were venison and lamb chop--Divine. Because it was our anniversary they gave us 237 different desserts they wanted us to try and we were absolutely stuffed and content and the party didn't stop because we got to see the kitchen in action as well.
