It's been almost a decade since I've been to a 2 Michelin star restaurant, so I was excited to have the dinner. The food was good and the service impeccable (despite us not fully understanding what our waiters were telling us, but that's more on us for not understanding the accent), but there wasn't really anything that memorable when it came to the food. Each of the dishes were tasty, but I wouldn't come back since I didn't think it was worth the price. We did the 7 course tasting menu, and what I enjoyed the most was actually the butter that's imported from Brittany. You did get full despite each dish looking very small, so don't be deceived - all of us were struggling to finish the dish even by the 4th/5th one. They also give you more dessert items after the one you pick. They printed out the menu with the wine selections, even without us asking. Again, impeccable service. read more

I do not understand how anyone could give this restaurant anything less than 5 stars! How pretentious and snobby do you have to be to think that you the right to criticize this level of expertise and mastery? My review is not a review, but a praise. My wife and I had the most magical experience while celebrating our 4 year anniversary at Daniel. As expected, the food indescribably delicious. It was beautiful to taste familiar foods that complimented other flavors to bring it new complex flavors. It was a unique experience to taste layers of different flavor tones. The more you chewed, the more the flavors changed. I'm not going to go into detail about every course, but enjoy the photos! We were seated along the side and had an amazing view of the dining room. It was a little crazy seeing the flow of the staff and how attentive they were to each table and every customer's needs. We were blessed to be served by Pascal. I genuinely believe that a large part of Daniel's success is because of the dedication and hardwork of Pascal. He shared with us a little bit of his life and his passion. By the end of the night, Pascal felt like family. The rest is his team was very attentive and polite. I hope Pascal sees this to know that he was very much appreciated! To preface, I really enjoyed this meal. I had a great evening here. But I do not think it lived up to expectations. The price point is too high for food and service that frankly I didn't feel deserved it. Service started off impersonal and disorganized, it improved toward the end. Our server answered the questions I had, but I expected more attention to detail. Again, it wasn't bad. It would've been passable elsewhere. Every dish had some element to it that didn't really work for me. The pheasant terrine was phenomenal, but the ginger bread that came with it felt disjointed. The sea bass was delicious, but the celery was overused, overpowering, and too salty. I was not at all impressed by the preparation of the duck, and I RARELY come across a duck dish I don't love. The berries were way too bitter. Desserts were forgettable. I definitely would have come back to try the 7 courses had I felt that the experience warranted it, but I won't drop that amount of money on a meal unless it's impeccable. This was not. This is what we call "fine dining." We did not reserve the main dining room, as one of our party did not care for prix fixe. We opted for the lounge as you can have à la carte or prix fixe. When you first arrive, you are greeted by a pleasant hat/coat check lady. We arrived early and said we would wait for the other couple and were invited to wait in the intimate cocktail area. The cocktails were superb and served with a house-made cocktail snack. When the guests of the party arrived, we were escorted to the lounge area. An intimate area with about six to eight tables. After being seated and greeted by the head server (maître d' or captain), who explained our options, we all opted for the à la carte menu. After looking at all the choices, we decided to split two appetizers to start. Even though the number of items on each choice was uneven, the server said, "Let me take care of it. And then beautifully presented plates arrived with equal portions. And it only got better from there. The entrées were each explained in detail, including their origins and how they were prepared. I could go on and on. The fish, beef, duck breast, and pork were everything we expected and more. We all commented, maybe the best we have had. The house made desserts were perfect. I had possibly the best cheese plate I have ever had. The entire staff of servers were professionals and enhanced the evening. The most disappointing part of the evening was when a guest entering the dining room (after removing his overcoat) came in dressed in Dockers and a short-sleeve polo. This is an insult to the owner, the chef, and the entire staff at this fine restaurant. But maybe he was an elite or a "special" person. We all said we would be back. read more

The restaurant is beautiful and luxurious, everything you would expect from Daniel Boulud. The hostess was very accommodating when our table wasn't ready for a bit when we got there. The service was absolutely impeccable- placement, care, and attention were 5 stars. Even the maitre d' came over to welcome us and introduce himself. The sommelier was fantastic and picked the perfect bottle for what we explained to him. The food was good, but frankly I was expecting more from the flavors. The plating was spectacular and it was certainly a show! We did the 9 course tasting menu, which was a bit too much for us. Because we didn't love everything, we said we'd go with the 5 course next time, so we have options and we can select what we want to eat. Stopped In, unexpectedly, with a friend for a quick dinner that rapidly expanded to a luxurious dining experience. We were seated at a table in the opulent bar room on red velvet corner banquette seating. We both ordered non-alcoholic beverages (mine was pineapple yuzu) that were sophisticated & delicious. We decided to order several things to share.we chose the following... as our starter the showstopping Upstate New York Foie Gras Terrine flavored with Long Island Beach Plum, Pickled Japanese Knotweed Pluot, Marsala Wine, "Brioche Feuilletée" (flambé). The waiter assembled & flambéed the foie table side which is always kinda cool. She did it well & with a flourish. The dish was terrific. The foie was tender and as rich as anticipated with a gentle glaze of sauce. We also had to try the Castroville Artichoke with Basil Paccheri Pasta, "Cinco Jotas" Iberico Ham "Jus Barigoule". The artichoke & ham are rolled inside the basil pasta and plated vertically. Very visually satisfying but much better to consume! Light & a nice balance of flavor with the basil pasta simply accenting the artichoke. The second entree we shared was the Iberian Pork Chop flavored withWild Rose, Confit Red Beet, Potato "Fondante" Green Cabbage "Farci" (cabbage pork meatball), Pink Peppercorn Warm Beet Vinaigrette. The pork had a perfect cook (light pink in the center) with a lovely lightly crusted exterior. The mashed warm beet vinaigrette was a nice savory compliment to the pork. My only issue was there was only one cabbage meatball! We managed to share it nonetheless. The roasted root vegetables were wonderful too. A great dish. Dessert? Well okay...just 2! The MADIROFOLO Madagascan Dark Chocolate Crémeux Ponche de Tamarindo Ice Cream BOLIVIA Milk Chocolate Chiboust, Chocolate Meringue, Miso Caramel Ice Cream Both of them were too beautiful to touch...but touch we did!!! We went back to Daniel this January for the first time since the pandemic to celebrate my husband's birthday, and we took the opportunity to turn it into a dress-up dinner date night. My wife and I were happy to return to Daniel for the Spring menu. On this visit we were seated in the upper lounge - a quieter, smaller spot overlooking the bar. The lounge provides a comfortable spot that affords more privacy and easier conversation. As we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, the lounge was perfect. Also perfect was the friendly, helpful and knowledgeable service provided by Pascal and Serenity - both of whom enhanced the experience with their clear focus on our comfort and enjoyment. Kudos to Pascal and Serenity. A nice touch was the visits we received from some of our past servers just to say hello. Every element of Daniel is designed to make us feel at home, as we are among friends who offer a great experience. Few restaurants in NY offer this level of doubting our comfort. While sitting in the lounge offers one the opportunity for ordering alle carte, we opted to explore the 5-course tasting menu. My wife added a sixth - the outstanding duck consume. Starting with beautifully prepared amuse bouche of little delicious canapés, each a work of art. With each successive dish our amazement at the beauty of the preparation and the perfection of the preparation increased. We very much look forward to returning. All I can say is "WOW". I have been coming here for years and this was probably my best experience yet. We were a party of 4 for a birthday celebration. You really cannot beat Daniel for service as you are treated like royalty. In my opinion the experience is worth every dollar. For a number of hours you feel like you are in another world. The food, the ambience, the service is unmatched for most restaurants in New York City unless you are dining in another 2 star Michelin Star restaurant. I have to acknowledge the Regional Manager Karim who I have known for years. He is one of the best managers I have met in any business. He keeps to his word, works with everyone on his team to ensure the experience is seamless, is on the floor observing, helping, not sitting in an office and has the respect of his team. Our waiter Javier is someone that is that special that I have requested every time I go to Daniel He is genuine, hard working loyal and will also make sure you have an experience that is above and beyond. Every staff member that I interacted with was cordial and see if there is anything you need no matter where you are sitting or standing. They will stop dead in their tracks and step aside so you can pass anywhere in the restaurant. It's all about you the customer. I want to keep this short so I am not going into too many details on the food. Just check out my photos. You can read my previous reviews which address the food in detail. We had a 4 course meal which was Prefix, the preparation, temperature, flavor, quality was beyond. The deserts just kept coming! We spent hours and were truly stuffed. The portions are small although it is all about the quality. There were so many courses you could not help but be filled. The ultimate moment for my friend was selecting a wine from the wine list. He could not believe that Daniel would have any wine older than a 2005. He selected a 1995 Portuguese Cabernet Sauvignon called Quinta Poco Lobo. This was incredibly priced at only $140 and was truly amazing. They have a great wine selection along with cocktails, liquors, etc. The owner Daniel Boulud is a master at his craft. He gives back and is extremely active in his charity work. He has countless restaurants around New York, the USA and the world. He is also a collaborator with Celebrity Cruise lines and has several restaurants on their ships. I was lucky enough to eat in them on the Celebrity Apex this summer while traveling from Amsterdam. The Showtime series Billions filmed a scene and will be filming again this week. This is a fitting setting for the show. We decided to give Daniel another shot, it only took us 10 + years... On the positive, I'm glad we came back. We ordered smarter and enjoyed most of what we ate. On the negative, we won't be coming back. If you want first rate service in a beautiful environment, Daniel doesn't disappoint. If you want great food and want to actually taste the food, not overpowering spices, then pass. We had: - Peekytoe Crab Salad - very good - Hamachi - tasty and fresh - Scallops - tasty but the scallops were completely overpowered by the endive. If you ate a scallop with the endive, you tasted endive. Bad paring. - Lamb Chop - Not good. All you tasted was the middle eastern seasoning. You couldn't taste the lamb at all. - Chicken - the cauliflower stuffing completely overpowered the chicken. It also had one cipollini onion. One. Tiny. My least favorite Michelin dinner. Payola? 2 Michelin stars is excessive. Nothing felt inventive or even interesting. Judging by the majority of the crowd; stuffy, 70+ year olds, I just knew dinner would be underwhelming. My favorite bite of the night was the bread service. Thank you to the waiter who kept refreshing my plate. I would've left starved otherwise. We chose to do 4 courses versus 7 as the longer menu just wasn't anything we were interested in eating. Although I still ended up disliking 3/4 dishes I chose, I would scream if I had to sit for more courses. Adhd and a meal you don't enjoy is a painful combination. What I did enjoy was the service. Everyone was welcoming and attentive. I also enjoyed the dessert course and the fresh madeleines. However you don't pay $700+ on dinner just for dessert. read more

This is a classic NYC Michelin star restaurant. Yet, it never feels pretentious or snobbish like others that try to be more than. The greeter was friendly and polite and seated is in the, ain dining room. The setting of the restaurant is classic modern, beautifully decorated. One thing you'll immediately notice is its quiet enough to have a conversation across the table without screaming, something you end up doing in most places today. The menu is unique, and tries to be on the edge of eating fashion. Still, it was mostly disappointing. The taste was mostly familiar, nothing that screamed wow of a top NYC place. And this is where it goes down hill. Our servers gave a detailed presentation of everything we were about to eat. However, the language barrier was so thick we could not understand most of what was described and kept asking "would you say that again?". At first it was not a big deal, but at some point you stop asking, you get more upset the presentation of a very expensive meal is incomplete, and it leaves you with an experience questioning why management would place a customer facing employee in a star role, but would ignore the lack of language skills. The special touches throughout the night were very well done. The service is incredible from the moment you walk in until you leave. The venue is beautiful and larger than expected when looking at it from outside. They have flowers and cool paintings everywhere. Talk about setting the mood! We opted for the dinner and wine pairing, 7 courses. The food was incredible, rich, and artistic. The wines were well paired and uniquely from a variety of areas. We spent our last 6 day trip in NY at Daniel. (Dramatic of us, we know) Gorgeous lobby the minute you walk in. The main dining room is simple with eye catching art and a fairly noisy environment. Not as intimate as I was expecting. I felt as if our waiters were having what seemed to be a rough day from the lack of engagement and enthusiasm throughout my dinner. While eating, my boyf and I noticed other waiters being much more engaging with other tables. We were left wanting that same experience. We each got the tasting menu. All of the dishes were creative with ingredients and presented beautifully... however, almost all dishes did not make me feel like I was at a 2 star michelin. Nothing made my toes curl. Nothing made me want to urgently come back here. Nothing made me feel like I can't get the same thing elsewhere. The Foie Gras in the Pennsylvanian Guinea Hen Terrine was AHHHMAZING, but that's the most memorable it gets. Not even the dessert(s) were memorable, and we are FIRM believers in dessert. Daniel has one of the most stunning dining rooms with fabulous paintings and brilliantly crafted pillar, ceiling, and cornices. As you enter, you are immediately greeted by the a team member to check in then you are seated in a lounge area (that is different from their formal lounge) as you wait to be seated in the dining room. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. The menu is a five course menu or a nine course tasting menu. I opted with the nine course tasting menu and had a few cocktails which were excellent. The entire menu is thoughtful and I left stuffed. I enjoyed ECKERTON HILL FARM TOMATO "À LA NAGE" which was extra tasty, the Pennsylvania Duck Ballotine was a dished crafted with brilliance as the figs paired well with the duck, the grilled swordfish was excellent as it had a nice charred flavor to it, the striploin was great with the mushroom along with the parmentier (which was like a small pot pie), and the desserts were good. However, I'm not a cheese person so the artisanal cheeses were a little aggressive for me. I am conflicted if the cheese should be part of the chef's tasting menu since they don't make the cheese. Although, if you love imported artisanal cheese then you will like the selection. Also do not skip on the bread because they are baked fresh daily and are delicious! All in all, I can see why Daniel has been at the top of the fine dinning experience for over 3 decades. This was my first experience at a Michelin star restaurant. It was absolutely amazing and the food was stellar. What stood out most is my dress was ripped between the taxi and dinner. I was so embarrassed but the women in the coat check room swarmed to help me figure it out and made sure I felt comfortable. So obviously the food and service is amazing but that extra care is beyond anything I've experienced before and I'm so grateful. It really is a great choice for celebration dining. We had the four course meal, but it ended up being so much more - there were three more sweet offerings after our 4th course desert. I was afraid of getting more food in the end! They gifted us couple of little rum cake bites to go which I didn't have the stomach to eat until the next day. I asked the waiter whether anything on the pre fix menu was raw and he said everything was cooked, then served me steak tartare, roe and caviar lol I expected a lot more service from this restaurant considering the menu tasting requirements. The details of each dish was stunningly impeccable. Even the design of the bread that was brought to us caught my attention! We had foie gras, fluke, cauliflower, scallops, sea bass and venison. For the first course we had the winter squash veloute and Alaskan wild king salmon. The veloute wonderful, velvety smooth with so much flavor and the salmon was delicious but our fav was the winter squash. For the second course we had the pacific yellowtail and the Montauk black sea bass. Again both delicious. We had never had yellowtail cooked and it was such a surprising treat!!!
