[[HIGHLIGHT]]What a wonderful evening it was -- from the beautiful ambience and impeccable service to the delicious cocktails and charming food presentations, every detail was thoughtfully executed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff was warm and attentive throughout the night, and we were even invited to tour the kitchen, which was such a delightful experience . We especially enjoyed the tableside cocktail experience, and to make the evening even more special, they generously shared the ingredients with us along with an additional cocktail on the house. It elevated our date night into something unforgettable. Highly recommended for a special night out with someone special.

My experience at Daniel's exceeded expectations. Phenomenal! I understand why it is considered one of the best in NYC. My fiancé & I were warmly greeted as soon as we arrived by all staff. We were waited on by who I can confidently say is the best waiter I have ever had. Zach is the epitome of what Michelin star service is, from sharing restaurant facts, giving us a kitchen tour and a hand written thank you note. He truly made our experience one I will never forget. It was incredible experience, I am definitely looking forward to my next visit.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Venue was very enjoyable-wonderful background music, high ceilings, amazing and vibrant artwork, soft lighting that compliments the food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was flawless from checkin, coat check, and in dining room. Enjoyed the five course tasting menu. All dishes served were works of art. Bravo to the kitchen team on delivery of hot, colorful and clean plates. Quality of food was stellar. It was so good I paused eating so I could consume the plate with my eyes and dream about how I could create similar dishes at home. Venison was my favorite. It was at proper temp, great flavor (not gamey), tender and the accompanying sauerkraut warmed my insides with aromatic spice. Fluke really tasty. Bread service was attentive and generous. Cheese cart was a highlight as was the kitchen tour. Thank you Chef Eddy Leroux. (Hopeful you have a wild game dinner in the future!) Decaf coffee at the end of the experience was hot, smooth and looked picture perfect. Thank you Magalie for a memorable evening, appreciated your attention to detail, knowledge and professionalism. (This includes going above and beyond with providing a written recommendation for the restaurant in my hometown and coordinating the kitchen tour.)

Truly impeccable service/ I went around the holiday season 2025 and until the end, their detail-oriented customer service impressed me, including complementary holiday dessert and take home gifts. So for service, I give 5 out of 5. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I personally liked their decor more than Le Bernardin but it's personal taste. It gives modern vibe and even all the waitors seem very European looking (?), which felt like a strategic move. 5/5[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For food, obviously they are Michelin so it was all good with my 5 course tasting menu. i forgot what my drink was called but even the visual was soo pretty on top of its excellent taste. The only reason why I gave 4 for overall is that the food was all very good but nothing sticks to mind after the visit. It didnt have much "wow" factor in terms of plating, creativity but overall, I loved my whole 3 hr dining "experience" Highly recommend esp around holiday season

We've been to several other restaurants from Chef Daniel a few times including Le Pavilion and Le Gratin - which we always enjoyed so we were excited for our dinner reservation this past weekend. The service was as you'd expect from a fine dining experience with the gentleman for our table incredibly professional, prompt, and just in general everyone going above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The food was delicious across the board. We went with the five course and can say I enjoyed everything I had. The venison in particular was definitely one of the best I had but everything was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Beautiful restaurant which also had subtle holiday theme for the season which was a nice touch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We also were offered a quick view of the kitchen which we appreciated as we saw just how hard the team works behind the scene.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All in all a great experience we recommend.

I dined here several years ago when Daniel held three Michelin stars. I wondered if I could recognize why it had been downgraded to one star. (Although one star is a pretty remarkable achievement.) I would summarize the experience as gaps in attention punctuated by brief, polite, but rushed service. Virtually every conversation with hostesses, the waiter, servers, and bus staff gave me the impression they needed to rush off to somewhere else. They were not rude, but didn't give the impression that my presence was important. I arrived early and ordered a cocktail while seated in the lounge. When my table was ready, the cocktail was brought over from the bar. I was maybe 2/3 finished when someone tried to take it away. This matched the tone for the meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Of course I was seated at a table, yet it almost seemed like a counter at McDonald's: "thank you for coming, here's your order, next!"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The pacing of each course coming out was fine, although the arrival of the food and the wine could have been closer together. Service improved about halfway through my meal after other diners departed. This seems to indicate they were understaffed. In addition to the five-course prix-fixe, I asked for the wine pairing. The amuse and bread service were excellent but it was about 30 minutes before the first glass of wine arrived. It was a stellar Sauvignon Blanc that paired perfectly with the scallop carpaccio first course. But it was one of the stingiest pours I have ever seen. The remaining courses and pairings were also excellent. The Dover sole was probably my favorite but the American Waygu was also remarkable. Overall, the food and wine pairings were excellent but service at this price point should be nearly perfect.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Rare Gem. Nothing left to chance. Pride in all aspects of food service and comfort[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Restaurant Daniel is the best of the best (from a frequent traveler). Such an amazing time. Not in NYC frequently but everytime I go here... is as good as it gets. Thank you

Having been to Daniel several times, I was excited to return after being away since Covid. The greeting we received and the service in the lounge was totally on point. We had the loveliest of servers. But what followed in the main dining room missed the mark for me. We were 4 people for a 6:45pm Resy. We had a nice table on the periphery of the room tucked into a corner which was nice for conversation. We opted for the 5 course prix fixe. I avoid gluten for the most part and they get major props for excellent substitutions without changing the dishes. The scallop carpaccio was a nice starter but it didn't wow me. The fluke ordered by others was just meh. The next course was a seafood Fricasse and while cooked perfectly, it was just kinda heavy in a clunky way. The mushroom pasta broth choice definitely was better but I avoided due to concerns with gluten. The cod was gorgeous in presentation, but not the most flavorful. The tuna by others accounts was so so. The duck and pork were winners, but I didn't love my wagyu strip. It was tough to cut and I expected it to be soft given how fatty Wagyu typically is. I'd note that we were told that the salmon for two was unavailable. We looked at our neighbors who were being served that dish. It was surprising that at 6:45pm they were out of a key dish on the menu. Hard to believe a place like this doesn't have the requisite ingredients for a Saturday night. Desserts were the star for me. All 3 were gluten free for me and each one was delicious and stunning. Of course the petit fours were fab and the classic madeleines were wonderful. They sent us away with the canneles pastry and for me, French macarons. This is always a nice touch. Hubby had the wine pairing which substantively he thought was good. However, we got little explanation about the selections and there was no back and forth discussion like we love to have with most sommeliers. It might have been that the servers weren't well versed in the wine pairings. Service overall was nice but it felt a bit harried and just not nearly as special an experience as we have come to expect. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We did get to peek in the fully operationally kitchen and our server took our pic which was nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Guess I just was underwhelmed in general. Last time we ate at Le Pavillon when it first opened we were blown away. It felt like the flagship just wasn't what it used to be. Would go back but first would like to try out La Tete and return to Le Pavillon.

I finally had the chance to dine at Daniel for my birthday and we opted for the 5-course prix fixe menu. Canapes: Excellent start. There was a uni bite I really enjoyed, though I wish I remembered the rest--it all went by quickly but set the tone nicely. Maine Sea Scallop Carpaccio: A solid beginning to the courses. The scallop paired beautifully with grapefruit--fresh, light, and delicious. Warm Seafood Fricassee: This one was interesting. It came with small pieces of snail, octopus, squid, mussels, a SINGLE small pieces of lobster, and scallop. The seafood itself was great, though the sauce threw me off--it had a peanut or nutty flavor that didn't work for me (personal preference, since I'm not a fan of nutty sauces). The squid was also a little chewy. Funny enough, while I was jotting notes on my phone, the waiter came over almost immediately to check in and even offered to replace the dish. I appreciated the attentiveness but decided to keep it. Black Cod: Served with caviar and beluga lentils. The texture of the fish was tender and cooked well, though slightly bland. Pennsylvania Duck: Perfectly cooked--medium and tender--but I wasn't a fan of the olives embedded in the duck or the pecan sauce, which I felt didn't complement the dish. Mekonga (Dessert): A dark chocolate dessert with coconut milk jam. I didn't get much of the coconut flavor, but overall it was a solid, well balanced dessert. They also served freshly baked madeleines at the end, which were decent but not particularly memorable. The chocolate piece with gold flakes looked pretty but didn't taste special, and the mini coffee macaron was a definite miss for me. At the end of the night, they invited us into the kitchen for a quick look. It was a kind gesture, though there wasn't much to see--nice touch, but not particularly rewarding... meh... Overall, I'd give Daniel a strong 4 stars. The service was exceptional--though it did slow down once the restaurant got busy, and we ended up waiting almost 30 minutes for dessert. Still, it was a great experience overall. A few dishes could use small tweaks. But, solid.

I was lucky enough to come here for my birthday celebration and had an amazing dining experience at Daniel. Service was great and the food was also very delicious. End to end experience was what you'd expect out of a Michelin Star restaurant. Thank you!

The best meal I've ever experienced. The food, amazing. The service, impeccable. The price, a lot. Worth every penny, though. It is NYC. Just paid over $80 for a run of the mill breakfast buffet so there's that. We were a little intimadated before we sat down but we were quickly made to feel comfortable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The room was elegant without being stuffy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Some of the art was beyond my comprehension but the bar is pretty low there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

A celebratory meal in every respect! Daniel delivered top notch personal, approachable service, a beautiful and delicious 5 course tasting menu of generous portions with multiple surprise additions in [[HIGHLIGHT]]a gracious, open and serene setting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everything was delicious and although I may not remember the taste of every bite, the total experience gives me happy, exquisite memories!

Wow, one of the best restaurateurs and restaurants in North America IMHO. Incredible food and service 5 star food: the French modern with American twists food is simply fantastic. I'm not a huge food grad fan, but this was the best I've ever had, anywhere 5 star service: the service was so elegant it was like a PBS movie or maybe Downton Abbey. Perfect, smooth and almost completely silent gliding in and out 5 star ambience: even the front door exudes Belle Epoque charm, or maybe Robber Baron charm. Either way, the spaces beautifully inside and out

Can we order from both the pre-fix menu and the tasting menu?

As we had our cocktails we discussed going somewhere else as the vibe was flat. But my husband convinced me to stay as it's already 8:30. We head upstairs to our table, only to be greeted by another less enthusiastic server. He never told us his name or offered up any menu highlights. I was excited to have bone marrow and escargot. Both failed epically. The bone marrow was inedible as it was like cold custard. Escargot had zero flavor and a real lack of garlic and good butter. Tasted more like vegetable oil than good butter. We shared the lobster pasta entree. Tasted more like Mexican goulash. No Italian flavors to be found in the sauce. Never once did the nameless waiter stop and inquire about our meal. Just all around a poor experience and a disappointing Friday night. There are far better places that appreciate your patronage. We will not be coming back. Not worth it.

Ambiance: This place has a nice ambiance, definitely very "New York" -- dark (you can't see how dirty the floor is) and loud music (maybe too loud). We sat upstairs (we had a reservation) and of all the people on the top there was a party of 4 (us), a party of 8 (all dudes celebrating something) and the rest of the tables were on a DATE - which I thought was funny. Service: We were served by Ann-Marie who was so delightful. She was kind, super nice, and took the time to speak to us (which is basically how we figured out she wasn't a native New York City person). She gave us good food suggestions and we were very happy with our selection. Food: Here is what we ordered * Steak Frites: My two boys got the steak frites and I have to say the steak was awesome! I had a bite of each of theirs and they each ordered it differently (one Medium Rare/Medium and one Medium) and they both were prepared PERFECTLY. The fries were overflowing. * Caeser Salad with Salmon: My wife got the salad with Salmon (they only have a few salad options) and she enjoyed it. * Prawn and Crab Risotto: I got this and I have to say it was VERY bland. I wouldn't get this if you are looking for taste. I had to put salt and pepper on it to make it have any semblance of taste. Value/Price: I would say this is not over priced but it is not cheap either...bill is attached. I would recommend it to folks who are looking for a good place to either go out on a date or a family type meal.

Service was good. We had the fried chicken Benedict and the crab cake Benedict. I was a bit confused when I saw that each Benedict dish only had one poached egg - shouldn't it always be two? I guess that's shrinkflation (plus inflation) for you. That bent said, the crab cake was actually really big and filling. The side of potatoes were really delicious. Would I come back for brunch again? Very unlikely. But, it does seem like a pretty "safe choice" if you need a last minute reservation for a group.

We reserved for a quick bite at Redeye Grill before catching Dog Day Afternoon on Broadway, but as soon as we walked up, some bouncer told us they were closed for a private wedding reception. We were dazed and confused because how was I able to reserve online? But the real plot twist was that it ended up being the best thing that happened. We actually stumbled into Tanner Smith's thinking it'd be the typical, boring bar-food spot. Nope. They first sat us at a hi-top by the door, but that wasn't our vibe, so we grabbed seats at the bar instead. Best decision. Our bartender, Josiah, was absolutely killing it. My cocktail had passion fruit, so of course I asked my usual question: "But is it real passion fruit?" He just nodded in agreement and that told me everything I needed to know. That drink was legit and had nice strength. The food was great too. My fish tacos were packed with fresh fish, the guacamole and salsa were chunky and full of flavor and hubs enjoyed his pastrami sandwich. I have no clue when we'll be back in Midtown, but one thing's for sure- we're sitting with Josiah again.

The shepherd's pie is insanely salty and it's very off-putting. It was inedible. I was looking forward to having it but I would not in good faith recommend this to anyone. The buttermilk tenders is supposed to come with pickled shallots and marinated green beans. We didn't get the pickled shallots or the marinated green beans, which was a shame. The chicken tenders by themselves didn't have much flavor. It also is unfortunate paying $17 for what was considered a small plate and just getting the chicken tenders. The Asian-sesame wings were okay. Also, didn't have much flavor and weren't that impressive. There was also still hair on some of the pieces of chicken, so the chicken could have been cleaned better. They have fries and hand cut fries. The regular fries were soggy. Should have went with the hand cut fries. The tater tots were okay. I was told that the chicken sandwich was good. It came with a little side of rustic chips. I would not come back for the food but I would possibly go back to try a drink if I was in the area. The drink menu looked pretty good.

I arrived in 2008 with very little, and when Graydon Carter revived the restaurant in 2009, I was beginning a rise of my own, first at a large global bank and then, to my astonishment, at one of the city's most powerful investment firms. The suits were daily, the walls were gold, and the pressure was so consuming that even success could feel like a form of attrition. After a few years, I moved to a smaller firm with Southern roots, where the culture was more humane, the work gave me greater autonomy, and I produced some of the strongest results of my career, even within an industry still governed by fear, greed, and status. Inside, the red booths, low lighting, generous spacing, and hand-painted monkey murals made lunch feel ceremonial without becoming stiff. The room was timeless and handsome, with polished service, quality food, and the subtle assurance of a place where you could be proud to bring someone important. I especially remember sitting in one of those booths with two mentors, each only a few years older than I was and therefore close enough in vintage to feel relatable, trustworthy, and genuinely within reach. One had entered my life after I left the larger firm and helped me understand an earlier chapter that had also ended abruptly and, at the time, felt deeply unfair; the other had guided me through the smaller firm where I finally found a more sustainable way to work. Over that long lunch, I introduced them, we discussed several promising ideas, and for a moment my career seemed to have reached the point where relationships, experience, and opportunity were finally converging. One of those ideas consumed an extraordinary amount of my time and energy, and I believed it might become the foundation of my next chapter. Instead, the arrangement eventually turned on me, the role I thought I had earned never materialized, and the business itself sputtered. My professional life, financial footing, and pride all collapsed just as COVID was beginning. Then Monkey Bar closed in 2020, which made the ending feel almost unnervingly complete: the restaurant, the city, and the version of myself built around New York finance all went dark at once. For years, I experienced that ending as devastating and unfair; now I can see it as wisdom delivered through an unnecessarily rough process. The restaurant's later revival by a Chicago hospitality group feels fitting because it still honors tradition and ceremony while allowing the old forms to evolve into something healthier, looser, and more current. I have not been back since that lunch, but a return now would feel like visiting the museum of my past, not reclaiming a life that asked too much, gave too little, and finally lost its hold on me. Even now, I remember Monkey Bar as a great Midtown lunch in a memorable room, surrounded by the residue of old ambitions and the gratitude of having survived them. The cocktails were sharp, the service was impeccable, and the dining room carried that glamorous old New York energy without feeling trapped by it. I remain deeply fond of the place, partly for what it was and partly for what it witnessed. Some restaurants become attached to a chapter of your life, and Monkey Bar holds mine with unusual grace.

It featured a crispy, sugar-glazed exterior and a soft, chewy interior, topped with truffle cheese and served with a truffle butter dip; the pairing was superb, and it tasted great both on its own and with the dip. For the main course, I ordered the miso-glazed black cod. The flavor was flawless, and while the portion was small (which was acceptable), the pool of broth accompanying it was completely unnecessary; it was inedibly salty, so what was the point of serving it? After finishing the fish, I was left with a plate full of broth, rendering the plate unusable. Plus, it was overpriced; for this dish, you're better off going to Strip House Strip House remains the undisputed king of this dish in New York. A friend ordered the chicken parmesan. It was just average. Another friend ordered the short rib stroganoff. The flavor was decent, but it was far too rich and heavy. As someone whose palate is split 50/50 between Western and Chinese cuisine, I could manage only five bites at most. If you have a palate that prefers 100% Chinese food, proceed with caution on this dish. Friends ordered sides of mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. These are dishes originally meant for low-income Americans to fill up on cheaply; there's no limit to how good they can be, but also no floor to how bad they can get. Both were on par with the average quality found in upscale restaurants. Honestly, these are two dishes I would never order myself. To sum up: the atmosphere was great. It's also hard to get a reservation; the place was packed when we had lunch at 2 PM. Aside from that monkey bread, I didn't feel like anything else justified the price or offered something you couldn't find elsewhere. I don't quite get the hype. Perhaps I just didn't order the right dishes; maybe next time I'll try the burger and the steak.

They have to let you in. I didn't have a reservation, but was seated immediately. Win! I really should've asked questions instead of going rogue. My intention was to do the lunch prix fixe menu. The menu on the table was a la carte. This did however work out better for me as I had limited time since I was catching a broadway show. Started with the olives then followed with the hot dogs and closed with the gem lettuce. They did come at different times. This gave me the perfect time to nibble slowly. The olives paired perfectly with the salad. The hot dogs were my favorite. The whole meal was perfectly balanced for me. Just have to mention how amazing the service was. No table had anything waiting to be taken away because there was always someone walking around. At one point, one of the guys clocked I had just finished drinking my water and within seconds he was at my table refilling my glass. I mean c'mon. Will took great care of me. He even suggested the dessert I ended up getting which was the peach cruller. I'm gonna try to come back to do the lunch tasting before I go back home to LA.

Bursting with flavor and the potatoes made for a nice variation of textures. Salmon with endive salad was also great. Salmon skin was cooked perfectly. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the corn gelato. Just didn't taste like much and the peaches I found didn't really play well with the dish for me. Overall though, service was top notch and you can't beat the upscale vibe. Would definitely recommend this for restaurant week experiences if you're looking to get a fine dining taste at a reduced cost. Portions felt reasonable for the quality and left full (far from bursting, but definitely not hungry at all).

The only thing I'd mention is that the restrooms are located down a fairly long flight of stairs. If you're wearing heels, have a stroller, or have mobility limitations, it's something to be aware of. Overall, this was a fantastic experience with excellent food, attentive service, and a beautiful atmosphere. I'd gladly return and would recommend Quality Bistro to anyone looking for an upscale French dining experience.
