Boy, was I glad I did. I grew up in NJ - diners are a religion. This, to me, was a nicer (yet still casual and welcoming) diner. There's no neon and stainless steel to let me think it was a diner - but it's the best of a family-style restaurant and the diner we all know and love. Service was simply fantastic. Friendly, prompt, fun/funny. Atmosphere comfortable and not pretentious. Food: I had a simple cheeseburger and rather than fries, took them up on their offer for a small bowl of soup. All - exactly what I had hoped. Cook on the medium rare burger was clinically perfect. Meat to bun ratio was spot on. Hot, juicy. Terrific. Giving four stars in its category today as I want to dive deeper into the menu. I want to try their coleslaw, and pickles, and a chicken strip, fries, onion rings/straws before I hold it truly against a classic diner. But let's put it this way - I can't wait. Ps. So we wanted to thank them and alert others to this slightly hidden gem in the Litchfield Hills. They make some terrific sandwiches -- the roast beef dip is incredibly tasty. All the sandwiches are packed with fillings (the tuna melt is wonderful tasty, too). And they prepared a delicious turkey dinner for us with excellent stuffing and gravy, yams, etc. Gene (the owner) and his employees are really agreeable, knowledgeable and helpful in every way. Prices are great, like $10 for a large grinder and it Will crush any hangry needs. Plus the store sells beer and mixed drinks along with cigarettes, light groceries, and lotto. Definitely recommend this place because it's great food and just super nice people and positive vibes, I think the world needs more places like this.
