We have been here a few times and it is good, but the front desk hostess is completely incompetent and rude. Went the other night at 6:30 and was told sorry were completely booked up for the night! There were at least 5-6 open tables between inside and outside. Never expressed to us a wait time or offered or suggested the bar which had two seats open. There was no line or anyone waiting and there were lots of tables that looked like they were ready to leave. This is the second time this has happened to us going there. The first time I pointed out the open tables everywhere and was seated, this time I just left and spent my $150 somewhere else! read more

Friends called us and said there was a new restaurant in Moorpark and we have to go. Reservations at 6:00. So we went. I trust these friends as they travel a lot and dine all over the world. They have yet to steer us wrong. This is one of the best I've been to in ages. My friend said pizza as good as in NYC where he grew up. And he was right. It was absolutely delicious. We had the special which was arugula with prosciutto oh my gosh. The crust. You won't waste a single piece. We had the braised Caesar salad fabulous - also a special - and we ordered the zucchini ribbons. I could bury myself in those ribbons. You have to order them. I didn't order a cocktail but those that did said they were great and I did notice they were served in beautiful glassware. I just had water and they served me a little bowl of lemons and limes to make my water more interesting. I didn't even ask for it. How thoughtful. I began, as I sometimes do, to notice what other tables were ordering and it all looked good. Service was excellent. Ambiance was friendly and warm. Seating inside and out in a Victorian building. Btw, Moorpark is changing. Especially High Street. Come and enjoy. I'm telling you that you will be glad you did. This restaurant is fabulous. And not hideously expensive. I can't stop thinking about those ribbons. Open for brunch on weekends - can't wait to try that. And lunch. Check days and times. But get there! read more

My friend and I went for lunch. We both had the Cuban Sandwich with the side cesar salad. It was honestly so so good! My friend and I got a side of fries, not pictured but also very good. The service was great. We sat on the lovely patio. They said they should be getting their liquor license in a couple weeks. Looking forward to going back. read more

Strong drinks, delicious pizza and appetizers. Server in training, friendly and quick

Lunch date with my friend and we decided to go out on a limb and try something different. She lives in Simi and I live in Thousand Oaks so we thought somewhere in Moorpark would work for us to meet. I searched restaurants in Moorpark and this one came up. The outside looked darling and the reviews were ok. I thought...."why not?!" We met on a Friday at 12:30 for lunch. It was easy to find and the building it is in is absolutely beautiful on the outside and has so much character. They even have a cute outdoor eating patio and plenty of parking in back. We decided to get a table inside because it was a bit too cold for us to eat outside. The inside was cute but definitely didn't have as much character as the outside. We were sat almost immediately. It wasn't crowded at all so we felt like we chose a great time to go. We were given the menus and were asked if we wanted a drink. My friend was thinking of getting a glass of wine but when she asked the waitress she said that they didn't have a liquor license. We both decided on water. The menu consisted of sandwiches, salads, pizza, a few appetizers and 5 entree choices (salmon, chicken, ribeye, short ribs and steak frites). Since it was cold we both declined on ordering our usual salad order and opted for a sandwich thinking that it's hard to make a bad sandwich. We were disappointed when we discovered it was easy for them to make a sub par sandwich. My friend ordered the $18 meatball sandwich with came with fries. The bread was large, soft and tasted fresh. The meatballs were scarce (she said they needed more to fill the roll and that it was mostly bread) and the taste was "just ok". I ordered the $17 steak and cheese sandwich. I specifically asked the waitress if the meat was lean and if it was sliced thinly. She said yes that it was. I decided to proceed with that order that also included fries. The bread/roll was good but the meat not so much. It was very fatty and not very tender. It also had grilled onions and Irish cheddar cheese which was good. The fillings on mine did seem to fill the roll with the majority of it being meat which would have been perfect if the meat was good. It was served with au jus which was tasty and was supposed to have been served with creamy horseradish which it was not. I forgot about the horseradish after we had left. The fries were crispy, hot and tasty and there were plenty. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes and should have tried something else? However, with the prices the way they are, no liquor license, not much ambience inside and the quality and taste of the food I most likely will not be back, unfortunately. I wanted so much to say I found a new, favorite lunch spot that wasn't a chain...I really did....and I'm disappointed to say I haven't. I'll continue my search... read more

Can't say enough good things about this place, and SO EXCITED to have a new restaurant in Moorpark! We had the brussel sprouts (on special but I hope they add to the regular menu) and meatballs as appetizers, and for entrees the chicken scallopini and short ribs. Everything was incredible!! I called to place a to go order and the waitress was the sweetest! They had my order ready within 10 minutes from the time I called and the restaurant looked clean and beautiful. My husband and I were finally able to try Freda's and we were not disappointed. You could tell everything was made fresh. We tried the mac and cheese balls, chicken parm, pizza and banana cream pie for dessert. You can not go wrong. Manager came by to check on us. Bartender was very friendly. We had happy hour wine. We can't wait to come back read more

We love Freda's! Everything and anything! The burgers are delicious, the lobster rolls, steak, meatballs AND the salmon!!! The soups!! I also REALLY enjoy the wedge salad. The wines are good, cocktails are delicious - listen to owner Phil's recommendations! read more

I would like to rate the food but I can't because we were never served. Three of us went mid-day on a Saturday. We were seated by the hostess on the patio by ourselves. At first we thought maybe they forgot we were out there. Then the hostess seated 2 other parties at the tables next to us. The servers came out and addressed those tables but continued to ignore our table. After waiting 15 to 20 minutes for someone to come take our order, we left. I did walk through the main dining area with the intention of saying something but all the workers had their backs to me and stayed that way. I gave up and left. We went to the pub down the street and enjoyed a nice meal. read more

This spot is so dang good. Everything I've tried on the menu has been delicious. They also have one of the best happy hours around. $5 beers and some of the best wings you'll find in the area (get the Alabama sauce). Extra points for always having Enegren beers. My gf and I are obsessed. Make sure to try the specials too. 5 stars. Great staff and a beautiful interior . read more

Very poor service, place was 3/4 empty including bar but failed to find a solution to seat us Inside or on the patio. Not even asking to take our number incase of cancellations. They must not want to serve their community or build their business for first timers. we've been in Moorpark for 20 years and never been denied service anywhere. Do they think they are too good for some in Moorpark because we came on our bikes for a nice Sunday evening ride? read more

Ate next door about a month ago & saw Frieda's so it was a must try, I got the $60 Filet, not worth $60, was good but not yummy, it came with a loaded bake potato, which was on the lukewarm side with cold spots. MY husband got the special- which was Pizza with a creamy garlic sauce, arugula, oregeno & Parmesan mixture. It would have been amazing if they had not covered the pizza with so much of the arugula mixture, it was way over baring. I do want to go back & try the lobster roll, which we should have gotten in the 1st place. Service was excellent. read more

Excellent food, service and ambience. Reasonably priced grilled lobster sandwich was delicious. Perfectly seasoned french fries so good. Service staff, helpful and attentive, but not overbearing. Will be back. read more

Flavor bomb! My husband, daughter, and I made a reservation for Saturday night. The historic building on high street is a nice touch, and we liked what they did with the interior. My husband and I shared the wedge salad with Gorgonzola cream dressing. The dressing was extremely flavorful and delicious. The wedge was cut into thirds which made it more refined and easier to share! For dinner my husband had the lobster roll, which he referred to as "the best sandwich he had eaten in a long time." My daughter had the cheeseburger that she said was perfect. I had the braised short ribs in red wine sauce. The wine sauce and creamy mashed potatoes that accompanied the short ribs made the dish! My husband and daughter kept asking for bites to taste. We look forward to dining at Frieda's again soon! read more

Made reservations for Saturday night. Love the look of this small restaurant. Lots of outdoor dining available. The cheeseburger was very good! So was the chicken scallopini. Will be back to try more. read more

Excellent food with friendly service in nice decor restaurants. Went to the WLV restaurant & had a great pizza, so we decided to go to their restaurant in Moorpark. On 2 occasions the cheeseburgers were delicious. Salmon was ordered al-dente & was cooked to perfection (probably the best piece of salmon ever eaten). All the front-of-the-house staff have been very friendly & accommodating. Both restaurants are nice looking & clean, with the Moorpark location in a restored old Victorian house having quaint sounds of locomotives as it is across the street from a train station. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! read more

This place was so good! All the food we had was absolutely spectacular. Our server was kind and funny. I actually had been craving Chicken Parmesan and they had it as one of their entree specials (not on the menu) which was fantastic! My husband tried one of their Mezcal specials and it tasted a little watery (but he didn't want to say anything!). I think when we come back he will try it again and I bet it will be perfect! Inside is small but they do a great job with making sure space is utilized. read more

Revisited for Saturday brunch after hearing good things since my previous visit during the soft opening and was impressed. I had the crabcake eggs benedict, which was delicious, and tried some of their biscuits and gravy which was also very nicely done. The standout to me was the house's version of an Aperol spritz which had a great balance that not every bar can achieve. Sat out on the side patio to enjoy the weather, the cozy yet casual ambiance remains a big plus. Our server was great, and went the extra mile to accommodate some substitutions for a member of our party. I will definitely be returning to see what their dinner service is like. read more

Short version: Didn't even try the food. Extremely poor service. Seated in a black hole of a conference room that was so depressing we got up and left before we even ordered. Passed the hostess on the way out and she didn't even ask why we were leaving. Went a week ago, arrivedat 5:30pm. First time trying Freda's. Didn't not have a reservation, but figured it's Tuesday, early evening and there were only two of us, so let's would give it a go. It was also my birthday, and our dinner at home plans had changed due to work. Enter the restaurant, and a bus boy asked if we have reservations, which I said we do not. The hostess asked if we would like to be seated inside or on the patio. We said inside would be great, there were six open tables in the dining area. Hostess grabs two menus, then says she needs to go set up our table and heads down the hallway. I assumed there was another dining area that she was setting up. She comes back and leads us into a small conference room with three tables, one of which is a two top just inside the door. No one else is in the room. The conference space is a small rectangular room, with black board and batten on all the walls going approximately 4.5, and then a blue wall color above it to the ceiling. Absolutely no art on the walls. There is a black TV which hangs over the two top table, and there was a door to the outside. So basically you're seated in a black hole. Husband hadn't seated as he went to the restroom. I'm sitting there thinking, wow this is depressing. Husband returns, sits down and says, "this is depressing." We looked over the menu for a minute, and then I said, "this isn't the way I want to spend my birthday, there isn't even any art on the walls." We got up and left. Passes the hostess on the way out, and she said nothing. Seemed like she wasn't surprised. Dining out isn't just about the quality of the food, it's about the service. If you didn't have space due to the lack of a reservation, why not convey that our only option is the black "conference room". Throughly unimpressed! FYI - With minimal effort and investment one could easily design away the desolate vide in the black hole - grab some amazing art for the walls with digital art downloads from Etsy, print at Staples and frame. HomeGoods is a great resource for beautiful reasonably priced frames. Small glass bud vases from Amazon for the tables with simple greens, along with votives create layers and the desire to sit and stay awhile. It's like Freda's doesn't even want to try It was really sad. And not what I'd hoped for on my birthday. Should have gone to M on High. read more

We dined at Fredas this past Friday evening and were delighted with the service and the friendliness of the staff. We did an online reservation the day before but when we arrived, the Hostess did not find our reservation. What a wonderful experience which could have been the opposite. read more

Pretty small delicious though, wife order chicken scallopini small portion as well said it was good. I order the burger which looked great fries were awesome but the bun sadly was a little stale, for desert ordered blueberry cobbler which wasn't that great watered down and first go around it was cold, told the service and they made a fresh one but still watered down. Service was good very quick to refill water and drinks came quickly. read more

We made reservations for a large group of people where I wasn't entirely sure how many people would come. The staff was very accommodating as we added more guests throughout the evening, and allowed us to reserve their whole beautiful outdoor patio. The wine and cocktail list was pretty extensive, and they had some of my favorite Paso wines by the glass that I haven't seen at other restaurants. The food was wonderful as well. So nice to have a local restaurant that meets all of the criteria of ambiance, great service and delicious food. Yay! read more

Great food and venue. Loved the Moorpark high school jazz band, too! I would definitely go back!

Our waitress was great. Food was good, location was nice, thank the waitress for all the recommendations. Good luck with Family Therapy.

Decided to try out the new hotspot in Moorpark. The inside is very cute and small. I would recommend a reservation and to ask to not sit by the door as 1/4 of the restaurant is exposed to the cold when people walk in and out. They still didn't have their liquor license when we went which was a bummer but no biggie. Service was excellent, our server checked on us frequently along with the owner which was a nice touch. We started with the wings and zucchini. The wings were drumettes, very very small drumsticks, I was intrigued and asked the owner why they were so small. He stated it was how they cut the meat. It makes it so the small piece of meat falls off the bone. I actually really enjoyed them. The zucchini was crisp, served with a lovely marinara. I ordered the salmon and my guy ordered the short rib. My salmon was raw in the middle and I did end up sending it back, the owner was very apologetic and said that they serve it medium rare... I found this a little odd as I had never had salmon prepared that way. It was truly raw in the middle. But he was kind and sent it back. My guy enjoyed his short rib. Once getting the salmon back, I realized that cooking it again once It had cooled a bit made it much fishier lol the flavors were ok but it lacked the wow factor for me. Overall 3.5 stars. I'd love to come back and try the pizza as it looked really delicious. I think they still have some kinks to workout but overall it was a nice meal. read more

The service was excellent! I ordered the Chicken Scallopini, and it was excellent! The restaurant is cozy. Will definitely be back!

Decided to take my mom / family here for her birthday, poor choice and will not be back: Pros: 1. Good food Cons: 1. Entered the front door to a zoo and receptionist didn't acknowledge us for a few min. was entertaining hearing the receptionist/hostess/servers discuss how everything is out of control. This restaurant seems to be overcommitting and can't manage. 2. For our party of 11, we got seated with 5 menus. 6 more came 10 min later when our drink orders were taken. 3. Took 35 minutes to get drinks. Thankfully we ordered food and drinks together. 4. The bread appetizer we ordered came after we were done eating. Waiter mentioned the first one was burnt. 5. Daughter's chicken tenders came out last, about 15 minutes after all the other food delivered. Manager came over to apologize for the "disappearing chicken" but it never showed up to dissapear. When it arrived, the carrots we asked for in substitute of fries didn't come so the order was wrong. They did bring out carrots quickly, thanks. can't believe they charged us for the kids meal. I could go on. Place sucks and we will not be back. read more

The service was lovely - thank you, Elizabeth. The hostess & bus gentleman were also very warm & friendly. However, we were VASTLY underwhelmed with the food. The Short Rib, just one (@$36), was dry. The Chicken Scallopini w/Spinach & Shitake Mushrooms: pasta was almost mush, chicken was dry & there were just a few tiny pieces of shitake (the whole reason I ordered this dish) & the rest of the mushrooms were some other species...all DROWNING in butter & oil. Just yuck. We like to support our Moorpark restaurant community but sorry Freda's. read more
