When I am in Portland, I always grocery shop at either Fred Mayer or WinCo. I like this particular Fred Mayer due to its convenient location, and large size. You can find just about anything in there including a nice selection of tap beers to fill a growler with. Great selection of fresh produce. Cons: the entrance is a bit confusing. Make sure you go in the grocery entrance if that is what you are shopping for, otherwise you have a long hike to get to the groceries. They didn't seem to have much to chose from for coffee - just some in-store bulk brands, and they there's Peet's at their in-store kiosk. Maybe I just didn't look in the right spot. The parking lot is a hassle to get out of if you park on the South side. I recommend you park on the West side where egress is easier. When I was there a couple of days ago I needed to find some canned pineapple, and I asked an employee for help and he struggled to find it too. The canned fruit area was not labeled very well. I do like that my Kroger card from Tucson works here, so I get the loyalty card pricing and fuel points. read more

Purchased salmon last night went to cook it tonight and it smelled like it was a week old. Salmon should not smell fishy it should smell fresh. Fred Meyer is very deceptive. Two weeks ago I priced a pair of gloves that was $24. Today they were marked 50% off so when I was at check out the gloves came out to be $16. They should have been $12. Fred Meyer raised the price up to $32 then marked that price at 50% off. Do instead of paying $12 I paid $16. Kind of deceptive and dishonest if you ask me. read more

Seriously. I show up to grocery shop at 6pm. The deli is closed. The employees don't even acknowledge me. When I finally get one of the 3 workers attention, the day they are closed! Why in the heck is the deli closed in a friggin grocery store at 6pm??? No sliced meats, cheeses, no hot chickens. Nothing. Clearly coming here after 6pm is a waste of your time, as you will have to make a second trip since the deli doesn't feel like working store hours. read more

Fred Meyer, a NW classic. I like that Freddie's tends to have almost everything I want to shop for. But... I almost never shop here without trying at least 3 other locations first. Why? Because the price is usually at least 25% higher than my other regular stores. Your wine section is lovely, and your cheese selection divine. I really miss that you've removed a lot of specialty items from your natural section, mostly in the health section. Only 6 essential oils? Come on.... I'll continue to shop here, because they have some odd items I can't find elsewhere. But only after exhausting other options. read more

A lot of homeless people hang out in the parking lot. Then first time someone approached my car when I was sitting inside with the windows up. The next time I was walking inside and two men stopped me to ask for money, when I said I didn't have any they called me a liar. On my way out they asked if I took out any cash. Exhausting experience. Never enough checkouts open. Waited 17 minutes in line. Store is poorly organized and and extremely under-staffed and not well stocked, advertised items are frequently missing. Have a question? Well, good luck finding anyone to ask. Customer Service usually has a looooooog wait. I don't know how the checkers retain their sanity yet alone stay polite, but they do. Terrible customer service, avoid if you can. So I literally just bought a bunch of new Lego toys (marked 20% off), then find out walking out the door that the cashier didn't ring up the discount. Attempt to get back in (around 3:58pm, a couple on minutes before the 4pm closing time) and the assistant manager ("Katie") refuses to let me back in saying the store was closed (even though it technically wasn't closing time yet, it was Fred Meyer's mistake and wouldn't have taken much time to fix, and it's a waste of time driving all the way back out here during the workweek). Fred Meyer should be taking customer service lessons from Costco; am less and less inclined to shop there now. Every store makes mistakes, but the good ones at least try to fix them without further inconveniencing their customers. read more

I haven't been to a Fred Meyer in quite sometime as it is not near me, stopped in for a gift card and was surprised at the selection and it was nice to see gift cards grouped together by the same category and company that owns the stores. Everything was clearly clearly marked and with the display in the front middle of the store, by the registers, you can't miss it. For a weekdays evening, it was busy but plenty of check out lanes. 2 sections for self check out which is far more than other grocery stores I have seen. Large store with so much to see, I can't speak on behalf of each department and various other tasks like Chase bank, Vision care, Jewelry department and more as my objective was just for a gift card- get in and get out because I am sure I would of bought something else. I stop at this Fred Meyer a LOT as it's on my way home. Though there are really a few days where I think to myself "must you really have milk today?" Why? Because this Fred Meyer has two strikes against it - crazy parking lot. There is just...no logic to it + dumb drivers = hair-pulling out instances of just trying to find a parking space. Strike #2 - It's always so freaking busy. Does no one in Beaverton work EVER!?!?!?! I guess that's not FM's fault. OH, ok here's strike #2 then - could you please make sure to have at least 1/2 of your can machines working? I swear, I just leave bottles there because they're not working. Plus, giant bins of crushed glass laying around said machines? That's surely not an accident waiting to happen. Phew, those are my big complaints and apparently I have quite the opinion on them. Otherwise it's a pretty big freaking store with mostly anything you may possibly need. The produce selection is good and mostly always fresh, tasty breads and a good selections of beer. read more

I've been shopping at this Fred Meyer off and on for many years. Sadly, I find the service has deteriorated noticeably, especially since Kroger bought the chain. When I can't find something at Costco, Fred Meyer is usually my first backup. Often they have what I'm looking for. My last trip was to buy some lottery tickets and groceries. When the lottery machine kept rejecting my perfectly filled-out play-slip I decided to have "customer service" run it. Nope - they can only check tickets for payout - and all too happy to tell me so. When asked to look at the play-slip to see if they could spot the problem I got a blank stare, a shrug, and a non-committal "I dunno". Awesome. Or not. So I was left to spend more time trying to figure it out, which I did. It's this kind of crappy numb-skull "help" and "customer service" that is driving longtime customers like myself away in droves. Like many big-box stores, Fred Meyer seems uninterested in hiring people that are sincerely invested in helping other people. It's really frustrating as a consumer, and moving forward I will be looking for a viable replacement of my #2 grocery and household items source. That is, a store that cares about customer service and the interactions employees have with their customers, lest we lose sight of exactly who is paying the bills. read more

I shopped at Freddie's today in Beaverton. went to exit and my shopping cart came to dead stop at exit door. Some guy comes over with a wand to make passes over my groceries, giving me the impression I had stolen something. Didn't bother to look at my receipt. Is this because I didn't purchase their bags? I have been shopping there for 30 years. Now I hate to go there. I consider this poor behavior, very unpleasant treatment of customers. read more

This isn't usually the Fred Meyer I go to, but I stop by if I'm in the area. It is absolutely huge! Almost too big, it's tough to find the section you need sometimes. Today was 70% off clothes and there was a much larger selection than at the Tigard store. I'll probably make this my go to for clearance shopping. read more

Beaverton fred meyer pharmacy is consistently the worst. On jan 10th I went to buy syringes for my dogs diabetes. Showed them the ones i needed, the sold me completely different ones. Granted I should have checked before I left.. When I went to retrieve return them due to policy which is understandable they don't take returns on them. The Pharmacist claimed that she Told me that they didn't have those and if the ones that she were giving me would suffice would suffice which was a lie. I let her know I was not happy about having to eat the cost. When I then asked for the correct ones she explained I would need a prescription from the vet in order to get them. Again a blatant lie because you do not need a prescription to get syringes in Oregon besides why would she be able to sell me the wrong syringes without a prescription yet not the correct ones. On top of that she was very rude. I have consistently received poor service from them. Keep giving them chances because the location is convenient. Will no longer give them chances. read more

As Fred Meyers go, this one is a'ight. While not as large as the FM location in Beaverton Town Square (a few miles down Beaverton-Hillsdale, this will do for a majority of your daily needs. Contrary to its sister locations, this FM has a manageable parking lot, which is nice. Somehow it seems that the average DIQ (driving IQ) of those folks generally driving in this lot is a step above your average TJ's. Being located as far as it is from me, I am not here often, so my ease in parking lot navigation may have been a fluke. Overall, it does the trick. read more

They are open until 11 but they are locking down all the doors except 1 at 9pm but don't tell people in the store which door is remaining open. The customer service at the Beaverton store was horrible when I asked which door can use to leave. I was treated very poorly by the Fred Meyer team, so much I will not be back. read more

"F" in the Art & Science of Grocery Bagging Although it should just be common sense, Fred Meyer grocery baggers/clerks either don't know or don't care about how they bag groceries. More often than not, soft produce such as tomatoes and bananas are put in the bags first followed by canned goods so that if you have chosen relatively undinged fruits and vegetables, they won't be by the time you get home. Furthermore, they seem to be oblivious in taking into account the customer's age and physical condition. Putting a two liter soda bottle and half-gallon of milk in one plastic bag when the customer is in their 90s, bent over, and using a cane demonstrates a remarkable obliviousness. Fred Meyer management clearly needs to initiate a remedial course in Grocery Bagging 101 for many of their clerks/baggers. At the Beaverton store, there is one very obese clerk who seems to be unable to learn the basics even after weeks of suggestions. In general, the quality of the produce and clerks/baggers has been in decline for some time. read more

If you've been to one Freddie's, you've been to them all...but not really. This Fred Meyer is close to my work. I wish it was the one close to my home for one reason and one reason alone: the beer selection. The cold case at this Freddie's is jam-packed with a huge variety of bottles and bombers. I guess the folks who frequent the Fred Meyer in my neighborhood prefer sh*tty, yellow, fizzy beer over delicious craft brew--either that or the beer manager is just plain evil. To make things even better, there's a decent liquor store right next door to this location. It's the party Freddie's for sure. read more

Everybody talks about what they got at 'Freddie's.' Since I came to this town, it's "blah, blah, Freddie's, Freddie's, Freddie's..." Overpriced meat. Overpriced produce. Overpriced beer. Overpriced garden tools. Overpriced clothing? Almost everything I saw in this store could be gotten somewhere else for a fair percentage cheaper. This place is sparkly clean and snooty. They are not cheap by my standards, but Kroger stores were priced more reasonably, open 24 hours, and didn't muck it up with a bunch of unnecessary merch. Save money. Not a fan. I am a squeezer. I squeeze the Charmin, I squeeze the avocados, and I squeeze the puglieses... Yesterday I arrived in the Fred Meyer Bakery around 1pm and I started my ritualistic squeezing of the artisan breads. It's a guilty pleasure of mine to pick up a round, warm loaf of freshly baked bread. When it gives off a scent off a warm sweet aroma, I faint a little on the inside and want to hug it a little closer. And, when I sense that just beyond it's crisp crust lies a soft and doughy center I can't wait to get it home and tear off its wrapper and have my way with my loaf.....yes I'm a carb whore like that. So, it's after 1pm and I find myself drawn to the corner of artfully lit baskets full of artisan breads. No warm loaves...only cold hard ones. Then I start my ritual squeezing. To my surprise, some of the loaves were beyond soft....they were soggy....but only in spots...I try to get the attention of the lady behind the bakery counter and bring it to her attention, and they just ignored me. Finally I found a loaf of artisan Italian I thought I could live with. But, by the time I got to the front of the store, it was also soggy on the bottom and I was in no mood to mince words. I told the man managing the front of store self-checkout. Long story short: I believe they are spraying down their artisan breads in order to be able to sell them as fresh. I've seen this practice done in other stores, but I was shocked that it was happening here. Fred Meyer would roll over in his grave. The man at the check-out, whom I've seen around this FM for years appeared to be attentive to my concern, and tried to call the in store manager over to talk to me. But, he was evidently unavailable, and I didn't have time to wait for some guy to come over and tell me that I must be mistaken, when I know that I'm not. I will steer clear of their bakery from now on. Shame on you, Fred Meyer conglomerate Kroger owned corporate communists! read more

I always find Fred Meyer to be a little bit overwhelming. The sheer size of it is uncanny. However, I've always found it to be bright and clean, which I love. Their holiday section right out in front near the registers got me in the holiday spirit and I found myself just walking around, perusing the isles. I really love their selection of kitchenware and appliances. I was disappointed at the lack of nicer gloves. I wanted a pair of winter gloves, and I felt like my only options were cheap, overpriced, knit gloves. I was looking for a pair of leather gloves but wound up settling for a pair of the knit gloves. For the frugal at heart, all scarves, hats, and gloves were nearly all 50% off :). read more

The bakery staff will decorate just about anything you need for your birthday cakes and more. My daughter purchased a watch from another retailer and needed to have a couple of links taken out to fit her wrist. She called ahead and found out that the Fred Myers Jewelry had a gentleman who was on site and able to help. I took the watch in and there was only one person ahead of me. I had a 15 minute wait. The jeweler was able to size the watch immediately in less than 5 minutes. Very skilled. They made me feel comfortable even on a "Black Friday" shopping day. read more

Check out lines are so slow. One time I waited almost 45 mins to check out! The guy was slower at scanning and bagging and by the time I realized this all the other lines were backed up down the aisles and I couldn't switch without being back at the end. Should have switched though because I saw people in lanes next to me who started behind me get done before I was even up. Also last time I went I had to do a return. I had bought Christmas lights (never used, I had gotten them for next year) but my mom had also bought me a few boxes since she didn't know I had already got some. I go to return the ones I had bought (with a receipt) and the guy tells me he can't return them. That they don't return holiday items. I said there were no final sale signs up and the receipt doesn't say that. He tells me people like to "rent" them for the holidays and even did the hand quotations around the rent part as he said it. I said I had just gotten these a couple weeks prior, like literally the week before Christmas, why would I buy lights to hang up right before the holiday... that they're all still TIED UP in the boxes (I never even unraveled them) and he could check. All I did was plug them in to make sure they lit up and that one strand did not (was broken). I had four boxes, he said well which one is broken and I said I don't know which box, but if you plug them in you'll see. He told me well we can't resell them we're just going to have to throw them away (they still had Christmas decorations out so they definitely could have put the none broken ones back out... but even if there's some policy on not reshelving lights there is 100% no policy saying I can't return these). I told him no where does it say these can't be returned. He calls someone on the phone to "check" then after hanging up says ok I can do it as a one time thing. So he ended up returning them but not after acting like he couldn't when there's no policy saying it couldn't be returned (I double checked the policy's again after that and still there was nothing written). So he just hassled me for nothing and it was completely unnecessary. read more

They're making very little effort to comply with the state's mask mandate. In a space of maybe 10 minutes, I saw at least half a dozen people shopping without masks. Employees either are oblivious or dismissive because they being told by their management not to bother because it doesn't do any good. With Omicron raging, it's amazing that the store is more focused on "we're hiring" signs than signs about masking. read more

I'm not sure how to rate a supermarket. Is there some kind of standard that I should use? I don't think so. So... the standard I'm using is their selection of beers. SUPERB. Unlike Albertsons, FM has a large selection of beers ranging from micro (local and beyond) to macro brewery. It's good to see some good competition going on in the liquor aisle. Some may compare FM to Wal Mart. How dare they. First, the quality of FM's products far exceeds that of Wal Mart's. Plus, FM is local based not hell based (ahem). read more

"Fresh foods market" not so fresh. All of their soups that have veggies smell and taste moldy. At first I thought it was just the vegan wild rice and mushroom. But the chicken noodle soup is the same. Something is amiss in the food quality check before cooking their "fresh" foods. read more
