Packed this time of year at this location. Prepare to wait in line. However, the line moves quickly and you will be out quickly as they have many staff working at a time for check out. The store is fully stock with many Christmas dishes, decorations, etc. There were some items for children but not as many as I had hoped for I.e. didn't find many toys. But they did have agent calendars and gingerbread cookie kits. There was a clearance sale of fall items at 90% off and so the cups and pumpkin items were around just over a dollar each. I'm sure it is gone now but it gives me hope for after Christmas. read more

Rude cashier ( middle aged woman with brown wavy hair working on a Saturday early afternoon) who clearly didn't want to be there and basically grunted at me as she rung us up. There's so many colorful trinkets and cute but stale snack options here. It's a bit of a madhouse in here in December as people are holiday shopping. this is usually a place I like to take my time perusing... but the grumpy wet blanket of a cashier soured the experience. Still such an amazing store. It got busy during the holidays this year, but they were well staffed so the crowded lines kept moving. I shop here a lot. For my loyalty, I get rewarded $5 savings and/or a free gifts with purchase. I have bought lots of food and snacks here. Sale items sometimes can be hidden, but it gives me an opportunity to see everything new in store too. I love trying food from around the globe. I'm always eager to shop here if they are running a good sale or have a special promotion. It's in my top 3 stores for my groceries. Most people think it's just specialty goods, but I've gotten a lot of great food and gifts here. The staff are amazing too. I think I only had one time where an employee had a bad day and was off. I'm a huge Cost Plus World Market fan, and when I lived in the Seattle area for over 25 years, I went to these stores frequently (especially those in Redmond and Bellevue, WA). I've missed this store so much when I moved to Vancouver, BC (I go to Bellingham a lot, and there are no World Markets there). So when I recently visited my kid in Oregon, we came here a few days after Thanksgiving. I had forgotten how AWESOME this store was during the holiday season. Seriously, this is THE place to get ornaments and holiday decor (not to mention gifts and stocking stuffings). It brought back so many memories, how I used to get so many holiday decorations at this store. Re: ornaments, wow, there are so many, in so many themes, in so many materials, and many were selling for 2 for $6. I'm talking good quality ornaments, many in glass. $3 each. Wow. There are also so many holiday treats and sweets, for many European countries, all packaged beautifully. And gourmet foods for gifting. And household accessories. A great assortment of greeting cards. I never was a fan of the jewelry here, as I used to think them "tinny", but during this visit, both my kid and I found some lovely earrings that looked quite expensive and we each got a pair. They have a good selection of lotions and potions and soaps and candles, and an impressive selection of incense and incense holders, too. There are a ton of throw pillows and some furniture pieces, too. Most of all, they are food-focussed, with a gazillion food items available from so many different countries. This particular Cost Plus World Market isn't as large or as "pretty" as some I've been to, and the aisles and layout aren't as easy to navigate as those in some other stores, but it's still a nice store, and the cashiers were efficient and kept the lines moving (I was there two days after Thanksgiving, which is a busy holiday shopping day. Our cashier was Beth and she was great). The only reason I'm not giving out 5 stars is because the bathroom I went to was rather grungy and falling apart (the paper towel holder was broken so they put a huge roll of the brown paper towels atop the broken wall-mounted holder. Came here specifically because they carried a bbq marinade I've been looking for. So yay! Inside is pretty interesting. They have a larger variety of things for the home and kitchen, bedroom and bath. Liked the style of things they had. A little pricy for my taste though. But the sales can be good. Nice that they carry some of the harder to find stuff. Although it did seem like they were out of many things. Not that many people there so service was quick. I have always loved this store and usually leave with lots of items during my vacation, however, things are definitely not the same. Their liquor section was completely disappointing. Didn't see any local wines really. There seemed to be substantially less of each section as well. There were very few deals. No real seasonal items. Not sure if Covid affected this store, but I definitely have no desire to return if this is how it will stay. read more

Never shopping at a world market again. This store was a mess. Poor management had these poor employees so understaffed that there was a long line into almost the back room. Staff that was there didn't seem to know how to work the registers. Things around the store were priced incorrectly. Multiple items in my order did not reflect the listed price and they would not honor it. Said some of items may just be for decoration and not for sale. How does that make sense if they have a price? Additionally I signed my partner up for the rewards thing and they wouldn't do the 15% off. What a crock. Don't go here. read more

This used to be the coolest store ever... Especially when it came to summer. Their outdoor decor was off the charts. They used to have great sales and treat their world market members really well with discounts etc. I have been a member for at least a decade. I have decorated not only my home but also offices throughout the years utilizing this company. Apparently things are tightening up. I went to get a outdoor rug and noticed a sign that said that I would get a 10% discount if I used curbside pick up. Since I was already here I asked if I could still get the SMALL discount and was told no Discount unless I order it online then come in and pick it up. So literally I would have to go outside or sit here and order it on my phone for them to honor the small discount. LOL How silly is that!! Are you serious.... you would risk pissing off a long time customer by not giving 10% off when they are a member? I am not playing that game. What happened to customer service? Had a miserable experience - so bad I'm taking to this site as my only recourse as their "corporate" complaint line seems like a myth. In short, terrible customer service headed by one, Leah Beckett - who seemed more interested in her phone and being rude than answering my wife's and my questions. We did not provoke or escalate, merely asked about the store's return policy and then endured a very irritated, partial lecture on how we should "be sure" before we buy something and "we don't do returns if we can help it." What a total creep. I'm not looking for a great deal in a customer service experience - I'm just looking for a non-condescending adult to answer my questions. I was not able to achieve that goal at World Market at Washington Square. Leah Beckett was not able to provide it. read more

I really enjoy Cost Plus. When I was in grad school I had the quintessential cost plus papasan chair, you know the one, and a baskety trunk thing as a coffee table. I also ate a lot of imported licorice and coffee candy from there at that point. I still like all their holiday items, particularly Christmas ornaments. They always have great stocking stuffers. We have awesome black and white curtains I bought here for our bedroom, cheap. They are unusual, pretty, and cotton, nice. I enjoy buying cards and gift wrap here, baskets, rugs.... Husband likes the beer and wine ( oh, me too, come on). They have awesome snack foods and a good selection of chocolate. I get cute little kitchen things here too. A couple years back I bought little melanine (?) red dishes, and my husband was like, what are those for? and I said I dunno...and we use them ALL the time. For dipping sauces, ketchup, syrup, little pickles, etc. They're really sweet and still look brand new. Cost plus is my friend. read more

On the hunt for chocolate and was very underwhelmed. The store seems to have rearranged the layout and had a partnership with Sanrio going on as walking in, one side was full of goods and food from Sanrio. So much to see, from all foods and drinks to clothes, cards, furniture, and knickknacks of toys. It's just so much at you, but fun to browse. The chocolate section definitely got smaller as it was only 2 full vertical shelves when I recall there being a full wall previously. The selection didn't seem like much either. With a consistent clearances on a variety of sections, it's a fun place to "window shop" too. I'm thinking I just have to come back when maybe things are fully stocked? read more

If I had it my way, I'd seriously be here every freaking day. But I don't. So I milk the visits I've got by walking every aisle. They have the everything to make the perfect picnic basket from teeny tiny tabasco bottles and portable nutella packets to cured meats and international sodas and wine. We are obsessed with Bundaberg Ginger Ale and get it every time we stop in. I dream up a whole new house in the furniture section and I suddenly need everything in my kitchen when I hit the serveware. Everyone here we've interacted with have been beyond friendly. I bought some furniture when we first moved into our home and the gal was so helpful. She remembered us each day and made sure she gave us our coupon discount on rain checked items. The store is located on the washington square mall campus next to Strada and Pieology and not far from The Thirsty Lion pub. I do really love the offerings of this store. It matches my taste in really much everything in my house and wardrobe. Offerings from around the globe. So much I don't know where to start. Some of our favorite things are; scarves, jewelry, furniture, stationary,soaps and candles, olives, curry, fancy petite rice bowls, household decor, beverages of all varieties. Walking into this place is like, SQUIRREL... SQUIRREL!... SQUIRREL... I've been going to this store a few times a year for about a decade now. The place has changed a lot but has always remained the same. They have a lot of interesting things and most you would not find at any other store in the area. My house can go though a lot of coffee and it can be expensive to keep coffee of good quality in the house. During a trip to purchase an interesting shelve unit (on sale) , I discovered their coffee. I have seen it there before but never paid much attention. Their price is under 9 bucks for a 24 oz bag. I bought two to give them a try. Well, it's been two weeks and I am indecisive about the coffee. I know, I know. "Cheep not good - good not cheep." It's not the best cup of coffee, but I'm not paying 13 or 14 bucks for a 12 oz bag either. I think I need to find a balance in coffee. read more

I went to Cost Plus a couple weeks ago to buy some stemless champagne glasses ($2 each, USA made) that I liked while at a friends house. I also grabbed soda bread mix, canned champagne and multicolor quinoa. I found a loveseat that I really liked and will likely buy in the next few months. World Market rocks! Lots of unique items and interesting finds. Furniture - they've got it! On the spendy side but well made and a good variety to choose from. Bought a lamp here that I LOVE. A+ for unique beer & wine selection and the prices are hard to beat - many cheaper than in grocery stores! Plus they have sales all the time. Candies and packaged food from around the world, coffee, tea, kitchen ware, jewerly, framed pictures, cards, home goods, paper goods....it's all here! I can't give it 5 stars only because I dropped my iPhone here and it shattered the screen. Damn concerete flooring. Sad memories. :( read more

I find myself returning to Cost Plus World Market throughout the year. Usually for that one snack or treat I haven't been able to find outside of Japan or Hawaii. Sure I could order my lychee drinks and macadamia chocolate online, but the store carries very fashionable or cute home furnishings! We've been updating our house and searching for new furniture. We wanted to stay clear of Ikea but real furniture is costly! A friend recommended we try World Market. The one in NW had recently closed so we headed over to the SW location. I've always loved their selection and eclectic style but what blew us away was the customer service. We ended up purchasing an entirely new dining room and some accent tables. We were all set to go and one of the associates let us know that a huge sale was a week away (30% off $300 or more). We were so grateful for the info! Upon returning not only did he remember us but in addition, two other team members went above and beyond to help us measure boxes, come up with the most efficient way to deliver everything home, and in the end packed our car and tied everything up safely. When we started to assemble everything we noticed that one of our tables we missing screws and the dining table leg was cracked. We made a quick call, Rob told us to come back right away and he swapped out the leg, found us screws, and we ended up buying a larger rug which two other team members made sure we got for the best price. The team at this location made this project so much fun. They all helped us and it made spending the money we did easy and worthwhile. Many managers who've been abused by Karens are turning into Karens themselves. When I was younger I read Armstead Maupins Tails of the City, It was right before a trip to San Francisco. Early in the first book Mary Anne shops at the original Cost Plus in Fisherman's Wharf. I found lots of sights from the books. Cost Plus was one of them. I was impressed, and bought some candy. I like Cost Plus, they have good things. It is fun to shop here. I like to see all the stuff from all over the world. In the end I get some foods that I can't find anywhere else. Candies, cookies.... it's a great store. I don't shop here as often as I thought I would. I guess I dont need that much candy and cookies. That said they have good stuff and I do keep coming back! read more

This is my second pantry. Don't tell anyone. This is where I get my stash of Italian fruit sodas, vinho verde , pinot gritio, caramels, honey combs, and chocolate candies. This is also where I get unique things to decorate my house. They have bright furnitures and fabrics. They have rustic looking things. The have different texture that will make your house a home. It may not be your style but they definitely have something that will make you smile. They often run good deals on items so always be on the look out. I can't even! We bought a mid century bar cart from a different location in a different state in anticipation of our move to PDX. When we opened the box to assemble none of the hardware was there. We tried to find replacements at several stores but these are specialty items. Called general CS for World Market and were told to call local store. Called Tigard and spike with Amanda who explained she needed to check on availability, whether waitlisted, etc. She came back on line a few later and said they wouldn't be able to order it at all - BUT they would open up a cart they had in store and give us the hardware. For years, for years, for years I put off curtains in my home. Those gross damask fabric that could be used for Beethoven's performance coat was just never my thing. But alas, sheer panels, curtains with practical wooden hoops and sewn in grommets changed my ways. Today, I bought for the very first time in my life a wooden curtain rod and lined curtains that will make my dining room look spectacular. This place also has great sales on wall decor that is similar to what you would find at Pier 1 Imports or even Pottery Barn. I bought an iron wall sconce that holds 5 candles about 2' x 2' and it was only $12.99. Just one of those cool places that you can find cheap buys when you feel like spicing up your home a bit. read more

It has a pretty big wine and beer selection, TONs of quirky imported delicacies (nothing fresh, all canned but good nonetheless), and a reasonable selection of glassware, dishes, furniture, etc. Other Highlights:They have a whole bunch of Torani syrups for espresso or Italian soda. Their imported candy section is great. Their green olive section is pretty good sized, but don't waste time buying their store brand. The stuffings are great, but the olives themselves suck. It's always fun shopping for food here - you obviously will find stuff here that you won't in a grocery store - and the prices are great. The wine selection (and beer) is also great and there are often sales (hit a 50% clearance on wine this weekend!). Cost Plus is also a good place to pick up art for your walls - they sell individual prints at a lower cost as they aren't framed (although some are). You can then find nice frames, often on sale or clearance. Staff here is pretty good too...they are generally good about noticing when lines at the registers build up. I have also had a good experience exchanging product here - I had purchased some shelving units and one didn't have all the hardware. It was pretty quick and painless to get it exchanged. read more

Like a lot of businesses, I usually look at items on-line and use their on-line system to tell me if the item is in stock at a store. Went to pick-up an item at this store (their on-line system said it was in-stock and available for pick-up that day), only to be told (by the store manager) that the item was not in stock, and their on-line inventory system in NEVER correct???? When I asked him how a store could operate in this manner, his response was 'we have no responsibility for on-line inventory accuracy', and I should have called the store first (wow - welcome to the 1950's school of inventory management).... Come on Cost Plus - fix a system that is obviously broken. Until you update your systems, I'll choose to shop elsewhere. read more
