I must say that after shopping at quite a few other Safeways doing delivery driving, I really do appreciate the few locations with genuine, and consistently good customer service. First, having a motorized cart that is charged and works great... THANK YOU. I did a shop at the 185th location an hour before their close for a one item drop to a customer. They actually said their restroom was closed - the one that that location requires to use a code to get into...like you can't even have an employee code you in. They said their restroom is "closed for the evening". Here...restroom right there, open so a person can use it and I was so grateful. And the motorized carts right there at the entrance open that I can access. Next up, I ask for something I am pretty certain they do not have but the employees actually get it - we are in it together and they are so kind, actually looking and saying they are pretty sure but.... I appreciate that so much! And when I go back to them to check out saying, oh you found that instead... Thank you for having such a great team and store. read more

When I'm running errands or have appointments in this area - which is frequently - I stop at this Safeway. It's such a pleasure compared to the downtown Portland location that is closer to my house and that I renamed the Un-Safeway for obvious reasons. To be able to enter a store without stepping over people and being harassed is now a noticeable and head shaking experience! Toto, we are not in Kansas anymore! The store is clean and well stocked. Service friendly and efficient. Plenty of parking. And all the items I buy at the other locations without all things that make the SW Jefferson, Lloyd Center Pearl locations a hassle, and sometimes, unsafe, experience. read more

I come here for their in-house deli made hot fried chicken !! Seriously, sometimes I just get a hankering for those secret ingredients. If you like KFC original recipe this Safeway is the closest for half the price. Crispy and juicy with a nice balance of seasoning, maybe even tasty enough to give The Colonel a run for the money. Be sure to get the ones that haven't been sitting there all day. I've tried other delis and they just aren't the same, Fred Meyer was super bland by comparison, which is branded by Home Chef so I'm not sure if it's even made in-house. Never been a fan of Popeye's so nothing to compare there. When I'm not scouring to satisfy my chicken craving I actually do some grocery shopping too. It's pretty much just another Safeway, nothing special, larger so there's good inventory and selection, but nothing unusual about it. Maybe not as run down or dirty as some in rougher neighborhoods. They do have higher pricing compared to Walmart or Fred Meyer, but there are deals to be had if you indulge your club card, sales and digital coupons ruthlessly. Meat and seafood department is decent, prices sure have gone up everywhere! If you're frugal with a keen eye you might find a decent fresh red steak or other tasty meat hiding in the clearance section now and then, thankfully not everything is brown or starting to decay. I do like that the seafood department usually sells clean Opillio or Bairdi Snow Crab legs, it's just a far superior tasting crab versus Dungeness, more flaky meat and much sweeter, and sometimes it goes on sale for as low as $8.99 a pound $12.99-$15 a lbs is average across the board. Sushi section is actually pretty decent too if you want a quick fix without breaking the bank, I believe they can fix it fresh or custom for you too. All the usual produce with organic selection. Full lotto machine and customer service, don't forget there's actually a doorbell button to press if no one is there. Curbside Pickup - There used to be a sweet older grandma type who worked the curbside pickup carts, not sure if she's still there. Instead of living a relaxed retired life she was always working hard pushing and running carts around for customers, maybe she just liked working and keeping busy. It was always a pleasure to chat with her a bit when I'd do curbside pickup. Always thought she was a real gem of a lady... in a picture prefect cookies and milk kind of way. Surely an asset to the business. Delivery - I haven't used it for awhile, but it was free for the first few times. They mostly use their own delivery trucks (versus Instacart or personal drivers) with refrigeration so things stay cool. Never had any complaints when I have used it. Nice to have the option for if you're ill, disabled or elderly or just plain ole tired. Bathrooms have been in decent shape the times I've gone in. Fairly easy parking, but it is often full up closer as well as not enough disabled parking. Mall lot also shared with Saturday Market during the warmer season and lots of other stores. Also blue USPS mail drop boxes and clothing shoe donation drop boxes on the lot. The mall lot is also a crow hangout during the day, it's not uncommon to see a larger murder or gathering of cheeky corvids. Only full grocer within a 3 mile radius aside from Market of Choice, which is priced more like Whole Foods or New Seasons. Newer micro Target in Cedar Mill. Did you ever have one of those weeks where grocery shopping was impossible? you were just too busy, worked too many hours, had too many extra events/happenings/issues/challenges? We just had one of those. Actually two weeks in a row. The first week we used up all the easy slightly yummy food, the second we ran out of staples. No bread, no milk, no butter, no cheese, no eggs, no peanut butter. No frozen veggies. Nada. It was bad. My teen lived on their Amazon- delivered- it- in a -giant- box- ramen- stash. I ate tuna until we ran out of pickles. I cannot eat tuna without pickles. Late Saturday night I spotted a $10 off pickup coupon in my email and ordered groceries on Safeway's app to pick up from this store in the window between two of teen's obligations across town from one another. I stupidly ( foreshadowing) thought we would grab them and drop them off and get the kid to the second one. It was tight but doable. Their website was tricky. Lots of coupons and deals for club card holders slowed me down. It took me a whole hour to choose groceries while I was running laundry and watching Walking Dead. I got an email confirmation that my order was set for 3pm Sunday pickup. Ok. We got there at 2:55pm. There are 3 spots for pickup . One had a car in it. We were car # 2. You call the phone # on the sign. I was told they were running 20-25 minutes behind. Car #1 got their groceries at 2:25. It was freaking hot and we were cranky. Car #3 pulled up. A fourth driver didn't get a spot but came and talked to the Safeway guy after he said bye to car #1, and while he was talking to car# 3. Then the Safeway guy came and asked our name. He went in the store and before he gave car #3 their groceries he told me our credit card didn't go through. So no groceries. Ya'll... 1) why did Safeway confirm our order? 2) If my card was denied why did no one tell me sooner so we could check it or use a different card? Dude offered to take a different card and have me come back later when our order was filled. Nope. No thankyou. I took teen to work,( hungry, poor kid) and called customer support. She was really lovely btw. She checked with the store a couple times and they said they don't run the card until right before the pickup time and they will sometimes call the customer to advise them of a denied card, IF they have time. She asked me if I wanted to arrange delivery. Um no, if I was going to be home to receive groceries, I would have done that. I should have just shopped in that half hour we sat in the car waiting. I am rather old and have a hard time shopping by myself, It's hard for me to talk to people because I have a bad lisp. I had came in to get some strawberries since they were on sale and I couldn't find them. A young man working there noticed I needed help and he was very kind and patient with me. He apologized for not having the strawberries in the display, he went into the back and carried back 3 cases in his arm and even looked through and got me the best looking ones! He was very caring and understanding and made me feel as if I didn't have a lisp at all. Great Safeway! Stopped here on our way to the coast and to use the restroom. It's very large, clean, and well-stocked. Not to mention the location is fantastic. There is also an ample amount of parking, accompanied by a only a short drive to Forest Park, which is where we had been in the morning prior to stopping by. This Safeway is much larger than most, as the locations in Portland have way less parking and are a larger hassle to travel to. Lines seemed to be pretty short and they had a full staff of cashiers! Well, I finally caved and got a Safeway card so the checkers would stop hazing me about it. Unfortunately, the checkers continued to be very weird. It's a whole cast of characters! There's an overly buff guy who's been there a long time, and he likes to comment on what you're buying, in kind of an off-putting way. We avoid him like the plague. Then there's another guy who just grunts at you as a greeting and casually tosses the groceries toward the bagging area after ringing them up. Our favorite is the other guy who seems hard of hearing and always says weird things. Then there's a new one, who actually wanted to start an argument with us when we didn't want to round up our total to contribute to a charity. We appreciate the savings, but we go to self-check as often as possible. If we're lucky, we don't have to call for assistance. Lots of bugs in the system, such as yellow squash, for which they can't manage to get the code right. Sometimes we're lucky and don't have to interact with any of the employees. Do not do a pick up or delivery order. I scheduled mine 4 days ago and I arrived at the right time. I was told the order was cancel. No text, no email, just cancelled. The app listed the order as a past order. Not cancelled. It was as if it had been completed, but it wasn't. After a looong wait on the phone, customer service said there was nothing they could do, that deliveries as well are being cancelled, and that my credit card would be refunded eventually. Not only is it totally unacceptable, but it has put a pretty bad burden on us as we're now scrambling to find groceries. Beware. I would suggest not using Safeway, and if you try you better have a plan B. read more

Do not use Albertson's/Safeway delivery service. I have taken them up on offers of discounts and free shipping about a dozen times now and every time there is a problem. That have never brought 100% of my items, saying they were out of stock, and they still short me items they said they brought. That makes me have to be on the phone for almost 30min to explain all of my issues and hope they refund me for the missing items and override the offer due to them not having the items. It is extremely frustrating and not worth any amount of discounts. Safeway needs to hire a better team of tech people to figure out what they have in stock and/or letting the customer know in advance that it is out of stock so adjustments can be made. Their current system forces you to accept whatever they choose to bring you and if that messes up the deal being offered, it is your problem to deal with. There are a few grocery store delivery services out there that vary in cost. I have had zero issues with Alpenrose but they are way too expensive. If only those companies can get together to make a system that is efficient, cost effective and brings you the correct items. I recommend staying away from Safeway and maybe someday they will get the hint that their system needs an overhaul. The customer service people on the phone are fairly polite but the time and headache they put on the customer to resolve the issues is not even close to worth the discounts offered. read more

Honestly I don't think I've ever felt inclined to review a grocery store before this so that should tell you something. Side note: It's so insanely hot this weekend... I am reviewing my experience ONLINE ordering with delivery. It turns out that the online ordering website and app are integrated and fairly easy to use. We were motivated to start ordering groceries delivered for my wife's parents who are vulnerable during COVID, and with Winter coming, we may need deliveries if we are stuck at our house due to weather. There was a promo code SAVE20 which was for $20 off delivery on online orders of $75 or more. The Safeway Club discounts were estimated, and I tried some Just 4 u digital coupons, that weren't calculated on the initial order but were correctly reflected on the receipt. We ordered at 1040am and allowed to edit before 11am, which I did as well. The order delivery was estimated to arrive the same day at 5-7pm and it arrived just before 5pm. The text alert included a link to track the delivery and it was similar to Lyft or Uber. They emailed the receipt which was a good deal since just about every deal in store works on delivery. This method of ordering groceries helps people stay safe, and the essential workers who provide the services are doing a great job! We appreciate you and I just wish there was a way to provide a tip on the app. I chose unlimited delivery for $99/year which is free for the first 30 days. read more

#### Buyer Beware ##### I am a long time Safeway shopper. I come from the same city in CA as where safeway was born and I support them whenever I can. While caring for my aged Mother in Vancouver Wa I purchased two potted orchids at Safeway. One was beautiful and one died all at once the next day. No problem I thought, I'll just return it out here where I work. The floral department representative tells me they don't take returns for other stores, you must return it where you bought it (I had the receipt). Furthermore, she goes on to say they only stand behind plant sales for 7 days (cut flowers should last that long). The manager offered me a 50% gift card with some disgust. This is an example of poor customer service from a once-great chain. Don't shop here unless you want to be dismissed, treated badly, and leave with only half of what you came with. read more

I shop at this Safeway fairly regularly. I have never once had an issue. The employees have always seemed to be nice. During the pandemic they were the only store I went into that seemed to always be stocked up on most items and they had toilet paper a lot of the time! Back in July 2021, Safeway on NW Cornell Rd. on a Tuesday evening, I went to grab a couple of sale items. Which if you shop at Safeway, you know is the last day for their weekly specials to end and new ones start on Wednesday morning. When I got up to the register, my items weren't ringing up without those sale prices as if they had ended already, even though it was still Tuesday. My cashier Mary, was so wonderful! She looked at all of the sale prices, changed all of the prices to the correct amounts right then and there since the sale was ending later that night. She was incredibly patient with me, and just an all around wonderful cashier. I asked her for her name so I could leave a review. I should've left a review sooner, I just kept forgetting to leave one with my busy schedule. I have never forgotten her kindness and patience. Thank you again Mary! All I've wanted, multiple times, is a breakfast burrito with chicken in it instead of the pork sausage and bacon that are their only options at this store. At the Safeway in SW Portland they have this option, ready to go no questions asked. At this location however, they take time to go get a manager to tell you the chicken costs too much to do that and to order the chicken bacon wrap instead without bacon -- a menu item twice the price. So I'm just supposed to forego the egg, spend twice the money for an item missing part of it, because I can't eat pork? Safeway is a grocery store just like any other. However, what is different from other grocery stores is in order for you to get their "deals" and sales, you need to have a club card. So make sure you sign up for it! This particular safeway has a starbucks in it and a good sized deli/hot foods section. The staff 90% happy, cheerful, and friendly! There are a few that are not quite as friendly but luckily they do not make up the majority. Their floral department is so great, if you want some help with flowers, just ask. Sometimes they will rearrange some for you! The produce and meat are okay, better than the discount grocery store but not quite as top notch as a whole foods store - this is reflected in the price (most of the time). My only request is that they have more cost-effective "health foods." They do have wild grain rice and whole wheat pasta, organic this and that but you're better off purchasing at a whole foods or new seasons sometimes because they will be 3/4 to 1/2 of the price there. read more

I usually come here for my lunch to grab salad or do my groceries. Today I stood in front of the Sushies and stared, then started to walk away with nothing. Sushi chef approached me and ask what I was looking for and I told him sashimis, he walked behind the counter and started making me Sashimis with avocadoes, just like I wanted. This Safeway is one of the better-run chain grocery stores I frequent, and I go there all the time since it is walking distance from my home. While they do not carry some of the high-end products (cheeses, meats, etc) that I sometimes seek, and have a stagnant and uninspired wine selection; they do run a VERY tight ship, there are rarely exorbitant lines, their prices are very competitive, and their customer service is top notch. Reasons why I rate this store 4 stars... 1) You always see the same Register Clerks, AKA it must be a job worth keeping, and you can become familiar with the employees, gives it a more neighborhood feel. 2) Well staffed. Rarely do you see a situation where there aren't enough clerks to keep up with the lines. 3) Customer service. Once I was scouting a nicer bottle of wine, and chose one at about $30, on sale down from $45. Anyway, I got to the counter, and they rang it up...it came up as $56 dollars! I told them that there must be a mistake, and that I wasn't looking to spend that much on the bottle. The very nice checker insisted on walking back to the wine section with me, and we discovered that the bottle I selected was shelved under the wrong slot...long story short, I got the $56 of wine for $30. That's what keeps me coming back. The manager there is (from what I can discern) the reason it is so well run, I think he has been there for over 10 years, and is VERY hands on, always jumping on a station to help get the customers through the line, always has a smile on his face. Only if all grocery stores were this well run. Because in the end, you really aren't going to go broke or get rich shopping at one store or another, and you are always somewhat limited and liberated by what every grocery provider has to offer; in the end, if it isn't a pleasant experience shopping and hassle free, that's when I start to look elsewhere. read more

Spent five minutes standing at the bottle return right next to two associates on break. All I overheard was how good they were and how they want to move up. I asked them if they could help with the bottle return machines as they were both full, they said "Sorry man, yeah we're on break. I did hear someone call the courtesy clerk". When they finally finished their vape, he told me "Wish I had a key man because I'd totally help you out man. I'm going to go get an energy drink then find someone to come out and help." Oh yeah, another guy came out and told the two that he was going on break. The courtesy clerk finally came after I went in and asked. He had no idea what to do. He walked at a snails pace and tried to push down the bottles and cans in the bins then finally said. "I think the sensors need to be cleaned...". That was it. The trash on the ground at the machines was piled up two feet up the wall and took over half the ground space in front of the machines. Not one person cleaned up the area. The two guys on break, the guy going on break and the clerk that couldn't fix the machine. Shows you what type of leadership exists at the store. Inside the store, every single line was five customers deep down the aisles. No one seemed in an urgent mode of work. No courtesy clerks available to expedite things. I wouldn't be so frustrated to the point of leaving a bad Yelp review but this store is always this way. Every time we go back we just hope it is a different experience. I don't know why we punish ourselves. But the other Safeway is on 185th and out of our way and QFC is overpriced. read more

Walking into this safeway was literally one of the best decisions I have ever made. Did you know this store is literally FULL of food and other useful household items? Well, it is! The logical and easy-to-navigate layout allowed me to find a gallon of milk and carton of non-dairy holiday nog lickety-split! And how could I forget the helpful and non-judgemental staff, who so kindly directed me and my fidgeting 6-year old toward an immaculate public restroom?!
