H Mart in the PNW is privately owned and separated from the national chain. This means the H Mart app is not nor is there an app for the PNW locations. These location include WA and OR locations only. National H Mart provided me this information and way to contact them. I sent an email to see if they have a points program. It has been a week and no reply. Management, please let me know. My reason for visiting is their house made Kimchi and it did not disappoint. I enjoyed the kimchi in multiple dishes and by itself. Great price on a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables and some shelved products. But some brands they carry are not authentic. For example, Assi brand of sweet rice flour was good, but Choripdong brand was fake - it was mixed with regular rice flour to cut cost, while the package stated it was 100% sweet rice flour, it wasn't. When I tried to make mochi with it, it came out rough and stiff. I should have known when I was kneading it by the texture. Very disappointing. read more

Honesty is not the name of the game here. While browsing the frozen section, I saw the sweet potato bread dessert that was similar to the viral social media trend but was hesitant to buy it since it wasn't the actual brand. The shelf only had this product on it, with a few bags remaining had only one price tag at $3.99. When I brought it up to the cash register, I was in dismay when it rang up at over $10! I told the cashier that the sign said $3.99 and this was the only product on the shelf. She told another colleague to do a price check, so I followed him. The moment he saw the product in the freezer, he took down the price tag and said something along the lines of "different product." I told him that this was the only price tag on the row that the product was on and there were a few bags of it. At that moment, I realized there was a language barrier as he repeated himself, "Different product," so I asked for a manager which I had to repeat myself several times. He eventually told me to follow him by waving his hand, to which he sadly just brought me to another colleague who I could tell wasn't the manager. This individual then pointed at the bag and price tag saying "Not the same." Just like before, I asked for a manager but what surprised me the most was he said, "No manager." Knowing that it cannot be possible to not have a manager on duty, especially with a national chain, I repeated myself and said that cannot be true. He eventually pointed me to the customer service. At this rate, it wasn't about the price anymore but a matter of principle where what I had asked for, a manager, felt like playing a Mario brothers game and I had to pass through every stage to get to "the final boss." Having finally reached what felt like the top of the mountain being able to speak to the manager, I explained to him the situation. He then calmly, which I appreciate, that the UPC and the code on the bag didn't match. I proceeded to tell him I understood that but this was the only price tag on the same row and there were a few of the same bags. Not to mention, how often does someone match the codes up when they are grocery shopping? After spending almost 10 minutes since I was at the cash register, I gave up and learned a valuable lesson - although I will be sadly returning as they are one of the few Korean grocery stores with a variety, be extremely careful with the price tag as they don't care about customer service. read more

They made the Korean part of the food court area nicer and more Korean foods. I went on a Friday and to my surprise, they had fried chicken! Even better, not spicy!! I know people love spicy Korean fried chicken but I can't tolerate a lot of spicy foods. Anyways, for $7.99, it was good as I think I counted at least 11 pieces! The middle part of the wings were very big and it was fried wonderfully! Not too thick and the batter was coated differently than other fried chicken I've had. It was delicious and it didn't leave a nasty oily/bloated feeling. I don't know if they will have fried chicken everyday but I'm guessing it might be a Friday's special. H Mart in Tigard would be my weekly go-to grocery store if they had more of the items (American) I use regularly but if you have an Asian recipe you want to try, THIS is the place to shop for your ingredients. H Mart has everything Asian: China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, with an emphasis on Korean, most anyone could ask for. The store is generally clean and well-stocked but aisles can be clogged with boxes of items waiting to be shelved. This just says to me that freshness is important here. The produce is exceptionally fresh, from Thai basil, long beans, Chinese broccoli (so much better than American), bok choy, mustard greens, and winter radish. And the fruit section is much better than any American market and much more diverse: jack fruit, mango, dragon fruit (don't be afraid of how it looks), THE BEST Asian pears, and yes, that stinky durian (try the ice cream). The seafood section is phenomenal. Clean, not smelly like a lot of other places, plus they have a live tank system where you can pick your own crab, lobster, fish, clams, and oysters. I've never had a problem communicating with staff in preparing or cutting what I buy the way I want it. Be patient and polite. The deli section is where I lose it. Lots and lots of ready-to-eat home cooked (mostly) Korean food is available for purchase by weight that is hard to resist. The Korean soups and stews are a staple in our house. We recently bought sushi, tuna and shrimp rolls ($6.99 each) that were delicious. We regularly have house-made kimchi in our fridge, as well as many banchans, also made from scratch daily. The liquor and housewares sections are both fun to stroll through. I love the organizing section in housewares since I can always use help getting my kitchen organized and tidied up. I love all the wooden cooking utensils and pretty dinnerware along with the interesting cutlery on display. Great place to buy an unusual gift for someone who appreciates something new and fun, too. While many reviewers have complained of rudeness, unfriendliness and a lack of smiling by staff, I have found you reap what you sow. Social behavior is largely cultural and I keep this in mind in order to not feel slighted, or offended when the checker, for example, doesn't greet me in the way I expect. Oh H Mart, I wish I lived closer to you. Way too many goodies that makes leaving with just a few things impossible. Everytime we make the trip here, I always make sure to stock up on all things asian. I'd say this place definitely pulls more on the Korean side of Asian products, but I'm always able to find what I need here. Ramen is something always on the list, there are so many options. Because they pull more Korean products, most of the ramen offerings are spicy. My favorite part of this place though Is the prepared food. I was around Tigard and decided to check out this grocery store. This is not your typical Asian grocery store. It's a one-stop-shop for your Asian foods and tools. I really like seeing all the pastry and hot food being served. They have a ton of Asian food, produce and snacks. I also like how they have a section where they sell pots, pans, bowls, different kinds of rice cooker, blender and just everyday items you would use for the kitchen. Oh, not to mention they have a great variety of alcohol to choose from. They truly have an expansive selection on everything. I love shopping here and I know during the Pandemic we didn't have them packing our groceries. It's been years now and every time I go to this HMart it drives me crazy when I have to quickly pack my bags before the next customer stuff gets mixed in with my things. Atmosphere - Open 7days a week, see Yelp, their website, or my picture for specific hours. Service - Good. Price - $27.12 for 8 snack items; reasonable price, good quality. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success. We did not expect to see a HMart in OR. Fun facts: The "H" in "H Mart" stands for Han Ah Reum - a Korean phrase meaning "one arm full of groceries." This is my favorite H Mart location, an Asian grocery chain that has several stores in and around Portland. Unlike the Beaverton location, the Tigard store is organized and much cleaner. Of course there are still huge boxes of products stacked in the aisles waiting to be placed on the shelves, but you still have room to navigate easily. Produce area is large and the fruit and veggies are fresh and at great price points. I enjoy looking at and purchasing fruits and veggies rarely seen in American stores, but that were introduced to me on trips to various Asian countries. Since I cook a lot of different Asian dishes, I can spend a ton of time perusing the noodle and condiment aisles. Each country has their own version of soy sauce, chili paste, curry, etc. and so does my personal pantry! Same with noodles. Rice sticks for Pad Thai; mung been noodles for Pad Woon Sen; egg noodles for Chinese stir fries; wide rice noodles for Drunken Noodles; udon noodles for Yaki; soba noodles and so much more! The bakery is a decent size with pastries, different types of milk breads , baguettes, macaroon cookies, custard tarts, lotus bean buns and too many others to list. Personally, I feel the prices are too high so unless I'm really craving something, I pass. The decorated cakes are beautiful and those are priced well. In the deli area you can buy a variety of dim sum, sushi, kimchi, various noodle dishes, papaya salad, egg rolls, salad wraps and soups. There is Crazy Cat Ramin and DD Thai Fusion if you want food made to order that you can eat there at the counter or purchase to go. The kitchen gadget department and Health & Beauty areas are not to be missed. I've picked up soup spoons, tea sets, fancy chop sticks and rice bowls at great prices and beautiful patterns. Some of the soup ladles are for multi gallon pots, clearly they sell to restaurants! Fun to walk down the snack aisle and check out the dried squid chips, shrimp flavored everything, and marshmallow filled cookies, some in matcha flavor. Always get a kick out of the massive bags of rice. When walking down that section, it looks like a garden store with bags of soil and mulch but the huge bags are filled with rice! My go-to Asian grocery store is Hung Phat in SE; they have a selection and prices that can't be beat, but when I'm running errands in this part of town, H Mart is my store. read more

If you want to buy any Asian, specifically Korean, foods, this is the place to do it. GOODS This HMart has the most amount of selection of goods that I've ever seen. Compare to other HMarts in the SF Bay Area, this by far is the largest and most in stock. You're able to find your typical Korean goods from microwaveable purple rice to kimchi in a jar. If you think of a Korean dish, this place has it! What surprised me the most is that, this HMart is the ONLY HMart I've been to that has an entire section on home goods (pics below). This is so rare for HMarts that I do want to mention. These type of selections only can be seen in LA Korea town. It's definitely a huge plus for people like me, who moved to Portland to find pots and pans that reminds me of home! SERVICE The service is stellar! There are your typical halmonis(grandmas) working in the kitchen to cook up some delicious ready-to-eat meals and the checkout counter people are really nice too! These short ribs have so little meat on them I feel I bought a bag of bones! It took forever to rinse the shards of little bones so my family would not crack their teeth! If you answered yes to any of the above or are looking for a good Korean market this is the place. HMart is in a strip mall off highway 99. Tons of parking, right off 217, super convenient. Things I like to get: - deli banchan. Want to have a Korean meal at home. Just grab a bunch of sides here, cook some rice and you're set. I particularly like their spicy tofu, Kim chee cucumber and their Korean fried chicken - it's like a spicy general tso. Take home or they have a big eating area - drinks. Banana milk is a big thing in Korea for some reason. Tastes great, loaded with sugar. If you want to be all Oregon you they have Banana soy milk too. Also a big fan of sac sac, which is grape juice with grape chunks mixed in. - they have a massive frozen area with a zillion types of dumplings. This place is HUGE and the selection was overwhelming but I was happy to have an abundant amount of choices. This store has a bakery, eatery, as well as wrapped freshly made food items. Large produce section and I am impressed that although they have a large seafood section, there wasn't that smell you get in other seafood stores. Prices are more expensive than I'm used to, but to be expected. We looked down all the aisles of the kitchen gear cause you never know what you might find something you need. We noticed that the staff started following us around and kept eyeing us. I don't know why they would do this, but it made me feel like they thought we were going to steal something. We paid for everything and had our own reusable bags. We even had our son go back in to buy more of something we tried before leaving. Has everything you need in regard to Asian food! From my experience visiting multiple states and cities throughout the US, I know usually H Mart employees are not friendly so I had low expectations. BUT this was the first store that cashiers wouldn't help bagging. I felt awkward sweating and bagging my 30-40 items while the cashiers use their phones or chit chatting with others while waiting for me to clear. Best Asian market in Tigard! Lol. Those who know... they know. It's a Korean market but there's plenty of other groups cuisines represented here too. For instance, I find lots of the Japanese ingredients here that we use in my families' recipes. They have a fish and meat dept. as well as three counters you can order fresh made lunches. I always go to DD Thai but only because I have a tough time changing since I love it so much. I always find great deals here so I recommend you go in and browse the grocery aisles. I found a $9.99 huge (restaurant size) coconut milk can that was easily 10 normal cans worth. That would run me about $23 if I bought regular cans. I also found my new favorite glutinous rice flour. I use this for making baked mochi - chichidango and baked coconut mochi. The snack aisles are HUGE and packed. There's tons of variety of seaweed. There's a kitchen gadget section. Rice cookers. Hot pots. I also found my favorite tortilla chips here. They're made locally in Hillsboro and they're the best! read more
