So I just moved to the Dallas area so I spent forever trying to find a good Mexican restaurant {there's literally one everywhere}. However, I came across Frankie's & decided to give them a try! Came in on a Sunday evening around 5-6pm and they weren't busy, just a couple of familys. Started with the guacamole - lacks flavor, needed to add salt & pepper I had the veggie tacos, but changed my mind and ordered the shrimp tacos. To complete our Sunday funday my sister and I decided to get tacos and margaritas. After researching my sister came across this place so we came. They have a small patio with a big screen television. When you walk in, there's nothing impressive about the way it looks, think hole in the wall vibes. We were seated and provided menus. Each table had a bottle of hand sanitizer which was nice, although it smelled extra strong. Our server, Iyckxema, came to take our drink orders but we needed the drink menu which she brought over. After looking at the drink menu I ordered a premium margarita, then after a closer look of the menu I noticed they had an all day happy hour on Sunday (yes!). She described the top shelf margarita as having premium tequila and a floater so I quickly switched my order. I had the frozen top shelf margarita and my sister had it on the rocks. For food we ordered a small guacamole, I ordered the calamari tacos (3) with the veggie medley, and my sister requested veggie tacos (2) with pinto beans. We were provided complimentary chips and salsa. The drinks were delicious! Chips could've been warm. Salsa was good with a touch of heat. The guac could've used a little more seasoning. My calamari tacos were good but could've been a lil crispier. The veggie medley was well seasoned. The veggie tacos looked underwhelming so my sister requested shrimp tacos instead, which wasn't a problem. The shrimp tacos came with 3 and they were grilled. My sister enjoyed them but I think they could've used a little more flavor. Pinto beans were good and seasoned well. I would give a zero if it was an option. We ate lunch there today we ordered the Salmon Enchiladas and Chipotle Salmon. The salmon was very fishy and cooked super well done. We both felt nauseous with our first bite. The salmon was most likely on the throw away side, out of date. We complained to the waitress and she said I will tell the staff. We ate the veggies and left the salmon. we complained again and she said I will comp your margaritas. We should have sent the food back, hindsight. It was a $42 disgusting meal. Don't be fooled by the name this place makes some great Mexican food!! When on of my coworkers recommend this spot I immediately thought it sounded more like an American bar and grill versus a Mexican joint. Although I was pleasantly surprised when I got here. I ordered the calamari tacos which were delicious. I also loved the vegetables that came on the side. I came to this location yesterday for the first time. I usually go to the Richardson location but had always wanted to try the Garland location and I finally did. One thing that I can say is that Frankie's has figured out how to maintain their Excellence consistently across the two locations. My favorite go-to meal at the original Frankie's is the shrimp tacos. You have your choice between corn and flour tortilla. Then they have cut up grilled shrimp that they put in a wonderful sauce and then put lettuce and cabbage on them. They have just the right amount of spice without overdoing it. They truly are some of the best shrimp tacos that I have ever had. Frankie's also has some great queso. There is also a consistency in the quality and level of service that you receive. Both locations have a wonderful wait staff that help make your experience very pleasant. read more

Pescado y camarones sounded better on the menu than it tasted on the plate. The fish was dry and all the food was cold. The caper sauce was too tart and was not a true caper sauce. It was brown and caper free. The appetizers we had were guacamole, Mexican corn, and queso. The guacamole was delicious and the rest was decent. Service was good. The waiter was attentive but not overly so. Pricing was reasonable but I expected better quality. Bottom line, I would not visit again. read more

Amazing fried Calamari tacos with a side of sautéed zucchini and squash with corn onions and spinach. Delicious fresh seafood flavor. I rarely eat seafood this was amazing. The place itself is a cute chill hangout spot. The service was okay, I think he was just one of the few servers on the floor. The horchata was so good and refreshing would definitely recommend. Such a cute lil Mexican restaurant! I've been a couple times and it's been pretty good. The chips and salsa is too spicy for my liking but everyone else likes it! We usually order a fajita combo for 2 that comes with rice, beans, tortillas, pico, sour cream, guac. It's tasty but someone's the beef fajita can be a little chewy but not horribly (fat pieces). Margaritas are tasty and vibes are nice! The music is playing inside and outside. On the weekends k have seen the patio outdoor filled with people with the pretty hanging lights, dj, tables, etc. Almost feels like you are not in the middle of the suburbs! Lol. We loved this place. It was our first time there. We came in for Sunday brunch because we were told by our friends how much they enjoyed the food there. We had to drive a while to get there, but it was worth it. The food and service were excellent. The restaurant is in a house converted into a restaurant, but there is plenty of room inside. We sat in the covered porch area, which was very cool. Their brunch menu had a variety of options, along with $4 happy hour drink menu. We both had the brunch skillet, which was very good, and the portions were quite large. We went with the mimosa and the bloody Mary for our drinks, which were excellent. Take out is very convenient with drive thru window and you can order frozen or rocks margaritas to-go! Two Crispy Beef Tacos plate is really good, as are rice and refried beans! Chicken Flautas are excellent, brisket quesadillas and calamari tacos are also fantastic. The sautéed vegetable side item and the street corn are soooo good. We eat here a lot. The enchiladas with brisket and mashed potatoes were not very flavorful and the parking lot is crazy tight. read more

Sorry to say but its going downhill. We've been going here for a few years now. The food is really good, but like any place that gets popular, it becomes a money grab. In just a couple of years, the price have sky rocketed. Took my daughter and my wife here on Sunday. Looked at the new menu and there literally wasn't any thing under $15 dollars. I know prices have gone up on some stuff, but rice and beans have not. Tortillas have not. So my 3 enchilada plate with rice and beans was $15 bucks. The large queso, $10 dollars, for melted cheese. Then when I get the bill, they charged me $2 for using my credit card. Which I wasn't informed of until I got the bill. Like I said, its just a greedy owner making a money grab. After talking with the manager, who is super nice, he informed me that they are going to start charging to just share a plate of food. If money is no object for you then go ahead and knock yourself out, but sorry Frankie, we can't afford you anymore. read more

Frankies is definitely a hidden gem even before the pandemic and with governor abbot opening restaurants at a 25% capacity they are definitely handling it well and safely. I'm a vegetarian so eating anywhere can always be a challenge but here there options galore and they are actually good. Diners are spread far apart and they are even using disposable menus and everyone is wearing masks which I know has to be so uncomfortable. They were kind and quick and the food was very good. Salsa has just a little kick and plenty of flavors. Also plenty of hand sanitizer by the door and it looks like some patrons were even eating outside on the patio. read more

Mom and I we're excited to try Frankie's for the first time. We ordered the queso dip, Pollo Gordo, Camarones Diablo, and the Burrito Ranchero. The menu said the queso had spinach but there was no spinach and it was too thick (more pasty than creamy). The Pollo Gordo was tasty; my mom really enjoyed it. The Burrito Ranchero (ground beef burrito) consisted of mostly refried beans and a minor amount of beef... however, the tortilla was cooked properly and the fries were fried perfectly. Overall, the customer service was ok. The guy that sat us (assuming he was manager) was very polite and welcoming. Our waiter, although courteous, seemed like he did not want to be there--that happens sometimes if you're tired but did make me wonder if he was new all together. Lastly, I would say this Mexican restaurant targets mostly non-Mexican customers. (And that's ok!) read more

We had a terrible first experience at Frankie's and haven't been back since. We came in and were maybe one of four tables. I always order chicken fajitas anytime we try a Mexican or Tex-Amex place for the first time. My husband ordered sour cream chicken enchiladas, also his go to. The chicken was dry, overcooked and had zero flavor - so I asked the waiter if he could take it back and I'd prob order something else. The waiter seemed perplexed, took the fajitas away and never came back to our table. My husbands enchiladas weren't an issue but that was the last time we saw the waiter, at all. I had to flag someone else down and explain what had transpired and they said, 'ok', then proceeded to bring us the check. Fajitas still on the receipt, I literally had half of a bite of one strip of a piece of chicken...so we complained once again on deaf ears, with literally no concern or interest in making it right. We were done at that point, paid our ticket with no tip and left. This place is a definite pass for us. read more

Frankie's is a unique Tex-Mex "hole in the wall" restaurant that has their own twist on many traditional and Tex-Mex dishes. I'm not crazy about their tortilla chips(thick cut - I prefer the tissue thin chips) but they taste good. The red salsa is caliente and delicious! Their queso (blanco) is also well above par! We've been here a couple of times before tonight - we had the Shrimp Fajitas and Annie's enchiladas: the enchiladas dish was spot on and I highly recommend it!
