    Amish chicken

This was a wonderful choice for my fiance and I to have a special occasion dinner! The ambiance is amazing, with starry lights on the ceiling, tufted booths or intimate tables, and of course the carousel bar as the centerpiece of the space. We started with drinks, a French 75 for me and a non alcoholic Belgian beer for him. The bartender was mixing things with flair all evening; at one point I saw him shaking two cocktail shakers at once! The menu is full of classic French dishes; I had the classique steak frites which came with a Bordelaise sauce and herb butter and was cooked perfectly medium rare, and his Amish chicken was tender and lemony. For dessert they brought us a creme brulee, since our reservation had specified the occasion, which was a nice touch. The manager and our waiter were very welcoming and warm. Accessibility notes: not all tables are high tops (yay!); the restrooms are individual occupancy and large enough for a wheelchair; I did notice the brass railing near the steps was slightly wobbly (on the side closer to the host stand). We would definitely return for a classic French food experience in a magical setting!

I came in on a weeknight after work and the place was packed. I was able to get a spot at the bar though. They had live music, which was cool. I ordered the French onion soup and crabcakes, and they were both really good. I was overcharged for a drink, though compared to the price on the menu.

We stumbled on this spot during one of the many polar vortexes before Phantom of the Opera in the winter. We had gotten out of our uber and ran to the nearest place to eat and drink. Wow what a great place to stumble on. Food is always great. Bar tenders are always awesome. My drinks are amazing. We mentioned we were seeing a show so they made sure everything was coming out efficiently. The carousel bar is so fun to sit at. It actually slowly rotates. Last night we were seeing another show and we couldn't help but think let's hit up Francois Frankie. There were other choices near by but we really enjoyed it the first time we are thinking this is our pre show spot. We sat at the carousel bar and again, we absolutely loved it. We had ordered the Burrata plate and the chef came out personally and told us he was out of burrata. He apologized and stated to us he's going to make it right and he'd come up with something else for us. He brought out a beautiful plate of food with stuff he had in the back that is not on the menu. A lovely little charcuterie plate. We were so happy with that. The Frankie Fashion was a great drink and my dirty martini was executed perfectly. The chef then came out and said he was going to comp our lovely charcuterie plate since he didn't have what we ordered. We were so thankful. I haven't been disappointed yet. Give it a try when you're walking by or before a show. We definitely will be back.

Let me start with the service. So impressed with the kindness of people especially when it seems like an outlier these days. Everyone we encountered was great. To calling for reservations to the hostess getting the door for my mom and our waitress, Jennifer. She was amazing! We were seated in the bar area with view of the moving carousel bar and the outdoor patio. In my opinion, we had the best table! We started off with cocktails.i got the aperol spritz and my mom got the rum jungle with banana liqueur. So good! We started off with the bone marrow. We got two giant bones full of marrow with an onion jam and greens. The bones are dog friendly so we brought them home for our pup. For dinner, I got the mussels and frites. My husband got the salmon and my mom got the mushroom pasta with shrimp. The mussels and frites were so good. Loved that the fries were in the mussel sauce. Delicious! My husband's salmon was great. Loved the mushrooms with my mom's homemade pasta. We were celebrating a birthday and received a complementary piece of Nutella bar. Such a nice surprise! It was gobbled up quickly.

Great service. Surprisingly great food because of location. Nice big restaurant. It has all the French bistro favorites and some other unique choices. I am a sucker for an egg salad sandwich. French? Don't think so. The French onion soup was some of the best I've had. I am a French onion soup fanatic. Do you know what they call it in France? "Onion soup."

Came here with a large party to celebrate a friends birthday and the staff was very accommodating. As one of those places that was seen all over socials I had my hesitations about whether the food would live up to the hype. Sadly it didn't exceed expectations. Our waitress was very kind and accommodating with our party. Despite the restaurant being completely empty on a Saturday night, it took a very long time for the kitchen and bar to serve us our food. Appetizers came out and almost immediately the dinner came after. In terms of the food, the espresso martini was the best tasting thing I had all evening. The calamari was pretty good but I was not a fan of the bone marrow and the French onion chip dip barely had any flavor to it. The lobster roll was very dry and the rib dip was also average.

Been walking by this place for a long time and haven't been before as I wanted to do a burger review after seeing them on my buddy's Instagram handle, Windy City Burger Reviews. Same ownership as Taureaux Tavern in the south loop, which I frequent a lot for work lunches, and they have very large portion sizes. Francois Frankie is similar as the burger was big and they gave me tons of fries. A nice vibe in the Loop. Bar wasn't super crowded on a Tuesday night, but a good amount of people dining in. It seemed mostly like a Theater crowd, which makes sense given the close proximity of the Chicago Theaters. Vibe is modern, intimate, and can be casual and dressy with the theater folks. They even had a live jazz band on a Tuesday night before NYE so that was a neat touch. Another neat touch was that the bar rotates slowly like the Space Needle in Seattle. I didn't realize it and I was wondering why the floor was shaking. But that was a fun experience. I didn't care for my Frankie Fashioned as I didn't like the bourbon, but it was well crafted. The Espresso Martini was very good! So overall, cocktails were good. I did not see any happy hour specials so they want this to be more high end. I had the Cochon Volant Cheeseburger. RIP Cochon Volant, which I didn't try before they closed. The burger was very good and it hit the spot. Bun was slightly better than Taureaux as it held together well. Same story tho as it wasn't super fresh. The Wagyu beef patty was good, but it was a little dry. It was slightly overcooked at medium well, but it was still a very good burger. Toppings shine like Taureaux. The bacon and cheese is fantastic. Aioli sauce was solid. I wish the pickle and onions were slightly crispier and had more tang/zest. It was expensive at $30 including the $6 bacon (worth it). Was it worth $30, I don't think so, but if definitely hit the spot and is worth it if you are craving a burger like I was. Fries were crispy, seasoned, and the aioli/ketchup were good. Same exact thing as Taureaux Tavern. Prices are slightly above average for the Loop and Chicago. Overall, I am a fan of both Taureaux Tavern and Francois Frankie. The food is good and hits the spot and the place has good vibes. Definitely a good spot for lunch/dinner in the Loop!

Such a fun spot to have our meal before the ballet with a gabby group of gals! Service was exceptional especially since our large group was all over the place in terms of communication haha The carousel bar wasn't working but was super cool - really loved the decor in here. Normally you'd think a place like this would have mediocre food - NOT AT ALL! Cocktails were inventive and refreshing, the escargot and calamari were so deliciously fresh and seasoned to perfection. The fries are not to be missed with that tasty aioli and my tartare was cut uniformly and flavorful. We also had split desserts - some apply thing that was ridiculously comforting. I truly don't know how I didn't fall asleep at the theatre LOL

    Crème brûlée
    Davina R.

What a beautiful restaurant! My husband and I went for a quick lunch and cocktails on our anniversary and had a wonderful time! The escargot and lobster roll were some of the best we've ever had. Both full of flavor and seasoned to perfection! The only critique we had was the crème brulee. It was served COLD (fresh out the fridge cold) and had more of a thick pudding texture than the creamy smooth texture you want. It was also topped with a fruit puree that wasn't listed on the menu (that we remembered) and it wasn't the most pleasant. *and we were given a cider that wasn't what we ordered because the menu was listed incorrectly. (Ordered sweet tart cherry and received a spicy pepper jam cider) But that didn't ruin our day at all. Overall we'd absolutely come back to enjoy seafood and a glass of wine!

Steak tartar was like a steak ceviche and good! The sazarec was delicious-bitter but also tasty! Good old fashioned.
    Ivonne R.

This place was lively and great without being too stuffy or pretentious. The rotating bar was really cool and almost gave me motion sickness at one point. Their sazerac drink was delicious, and the steak tartare cheeseburger, and beef bourguignon were really good! The dessert was especially great sweet but crunchy but nutty and with a candle for my birthday.

    bouillabaisse
    John H.

Solid spot for a team dinner if you have a group of meat lovers. I ordered the bouillabaisse because I wasn't feeling a heavy steak and glad I did. The broth was super flavorful and the grilled sourdough was delicious. The dish had a ton of mussels but had sausage instead of fish so slightly different from the traditional dish. The burrata and Brussel sprout chips were also nice apps. The only odd thing that I'll call out is that they ran out of the chicken dish on the menu. The interior is interesting. You have a carousel on top of the bar mixed in with a modern look with traditional dark steakhouse vibes with the big booths. Service was attentive though as our glasses were always topped off. It was on the emptier side on a Monday night so no issues with reservations.

    The bar!

Went just for drinks of a Friday night, and sat in the little "window pit" The server was so super pleasant, and quite funny and attentive. Drinks were excellent, which is really all we had, as well as a calamari appetizer (which was very good) loved the sassy bee (a little spicy which was great, could've been more :) We all tried a bunch of cocktails which were all wonderful. Wanted to sit at the bar, just wasn't enough seats for the four of us, but the carousel was so pretty! Would love to come back for dinner!

    Carousel bar

Why did I not know there was a carousel bar in Chicago?! As soon as I learned about it, I had to check it out. Though it is nowhere near as grand as the Hotel Monteleone's carousel bar in NOLA, it is charming in its own way. It's smaller and rotates slowly, one full rotation per hour, and is very fun. The rest of the restaurant is elegant: very small, but nice. Sadly, I had poor service at the bar, even though it wasn't too crazy when I arrived. My friend and I later moved to a table for dinner, and service was also lackluster, although our server was very nice and we could tell he was swamped. Fortunately, the food made up for it: my friend loved her steak frites and my cheeseburger was fantastic. I will definitely come back here soon.

All the premier dinners come with salad, cheese, fondue, and the chocolate fondue - You are just choosing what protein you would like. The Prince Geja combination has a little bit of everything. However, we most liked the seafood which includes lobster and the scallops were to die for! Also the beef also cooks well. Favorite dipping sauce included the pimento mayo, chimichurri, and garlic butter. The cheese fondue is quite rich and the bread is quite filling so maybe get as much cheese as you can on each piece of bread. The chocolate fondue, I think is actually the best course as the Belgium chocolate melts so well and has a decadent but not overly sweet flavor. It pairs well with all that is provided for dipping, which includes poundcake, rice Krispies, strawberries. They also have some liquor that they light on fire at first so you can roast the marshmallows. It is such a well thought out experience. Service flows very well from two waiters who take your order set up your fondue pots for each course, but be prepared to spend at least 2 hours on this experience. Check out the Groupon but also I read a review that they just tack on the extra $50 so it's not really too much of a savings. Not sure if this is true.

Also appreciated that they were accommodating for the vegetarian in our party. Everything except the cheese course can be made vegan friendly as well. The service was top notch! They were quick to refill items and answer any questions we had. The location is classic fondue restaurant, cozy and romantic. However, also perfect for catching up with a friend. And that's because the menus were being printed with a personalized birthday message! Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and struck the perfect balance of checking in without being overbearing. The mussels (provençal-style) were delicious and enough to share among three people. The truffle-parmesan fries: We couldn't tell if they were too salty or just salty enough, but somehow we couldn't stop eating them! I ordered the baby wedge salad with chicken, and while the chicken looked small at first, it ended up being a large enough portion to last the salad. We were also surprised with complimentary desserts: the Chocolate Chunk Cookie Skillet and Buck Russell's Cake. Though I'm not a sweet person, my dining companions thoroughly enjoyed them.

We were glad to get a seat out on the patio on a lovely Tuesday evening after having spent time at the Zoo just a short walk away. The patio is lovely, two servers handling the large space extremely well. There were some things we had that were standouts, and others that were just fine. The half chicken was excellent, cooked perfectly and rubbed with delicious warming spices, the potatoes and pickled veggies the perfect counterbalance. Similar idea to the dish at Armitage Alehouse, but better seasoned and a lot lighter. The steamed mussels rivaled those of Armitage as well at a fraction of the cost. Very different broth, but the mussels themselves were excellent. We were also really impressed with the tuna tartare, an excellent blend of flavors and textures we could have had seconds on. The crispy shrimp rolls were a slight miss, largely because the shrimp were finely chopped, rather than sliced chunks. You ended up getting more the essence of shrimp than shrimp itself. We also felt the skillet cookie was just fun, no better or worse than we've had at places like Crosby Kitchen. Overall, a really good meal that scrapes being really great at times, and does it at affordable prices with friendly, attentive service.

I really wanted to like it; this was a nine-year anniversary dinner. Service was really attentive and friendly and I did appreciate that they brought out specific utensils for me as a left-handed person, never saw that before! The restaurant felt a bit bare and sterile, I think I was maybe expecting a little more decor on the table for a Michelin star restaurant. To echo several of the reviews below, the salad was awkward to share and scanty, the soup was good but the bread served with it felt like an afterthought, the sturgeon wasn't anything special though the sauce was quite good, and we are pretty sure the cut of beef was not wagyu or if it was it was not cooked the right way. The beef was the most disappointing part, I couldn't even chew through all of it. The add-ons were the best part - pasta was great and our dessert was delicious. I don't think anything blew me away like I was expecting which was disappointing. We had the caviar supplement, which they accidentally gave us two of (amazing), which was good but also didn't blow me away. PARKING Parking on Halsted on a Saturday night can be a nightmare, and it did take a minute to find street parking. North of the 1800 block is busier because there are several restaurants within a two block radius. Side streets are permit parking after 6pm. Meters on Halsted are $2.50/hr. ATMOSPHERE Willow Room was pretty packed. We had a reservation for 8:15pm and my party of two was seated right away. The restaurant features a full bar, dim lighting and is nice and roomy. They have banquette seating around the perimeter, in addition to tables in the middle. SERVICE Our server, who was very nice and accommodating during our dining experience, came by and gave us our menu's. I had already decided on the RW menu and after review, my friend was interested in the Beef Wellington (not on RW menu). Our server informed us that normally the whole table had to order off of the RW menu if one person does, but said she would check with the kitchen since this was the last day of RW. Luckily, we were able to proceed with ordering from different menu's. FOOD I ordered a raspberry Cosmopolitan. I'm a Riesling/Moscato girlie, but I tasted the Riesling and didn't like it. RW dinner was priced at $60. I ordered: First Course: Caesar Salad (Typical salad, was good) Second Course: Mussels (Tasted fine, came with a baguette) Third Course: Short Rib (Could've been slightly more tender and better seasoned. I've definitely had better. Wouldn't order again.) Fourth Course: Orange Ricotta Donuts (Donuts were very good. Three were served, a few more would have been more filling.) My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Noir and: Truffle Fries (Fries were very tasty. I would order again if I went back.) Beef Wellington (The breading was buttery and very good. The beef could've been more seasoned. I wouldn't order.) Key Lime Pie (Was not sweet and had no taste. When our server came back and saw it was uneaten, she offered to take it off the bill. It should be removed from the menu altogether.) The busboys and server were very attentive. Our water glasses were always filled. OVERALL The atmosphere was nice, our server was great. Of all the food we ordered, I would order the truffle fries and Cosmopolitan again. I did leave full and did take my leftover Short Rib to go. Main dishes needed more seasoning. I would dine here again and try a different menu (brunch/lunch), or Happy Hour if they offer it.

We shared oysters, the crab dip, and tuna tartare. The oysters were alright. The crab dip was funky. It was a bit fishy and maybe too heavy on the dill? I'm not sure but something was a bit off. The tuna tartare tasted fresh and was a good combination of flavors. It would be the only food item I'd reorder from the happy hour menu.
