I'm about as passive as millennials come where I have never written a negative review and I get nervous to send food back, but I'm channeling my inner boomer Karen right now and have some ish to say. I made a reservation weeks in advance for the dome table specifically to make it special for my partner. I even checked in TWICE before hand, but when we showed up they passively told us the domes were taken. The food was relatively okay, but given how expensive it was (and with flimsy paper menus), it was not equitable to the quality of taste. And to top it all off, when we left the restaurant there was a rat just prancing around in plain sight immediately outside of the doors. The food was very good and very pricey. You pay for rolls which I found ridiculous for how expensive the whole menu is. My husband and I went for my birthday and we wouldn't go unless it was a special occasion. Unfortunately the restaurant was packed and extremely noisy, so we could hardly hear each other. Chef Robert creates masterpieces at this quaint, cozy restaurant. Honestly, this is one of the best meals my husband and I have ever had. Everything we ordered had multiple layers of flavor deliciousness. The brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection, with a flavorful rich glaze....apparently one of the signature dishes at this exquisite little place. We'd never tasted anything like the duck appetizer... it was creamy, rich with flavor and melted in our mouths. Amazing. The BLT soup was out of this world delicious, with an airy tomato consistency. My husband got the unique and elegant duck ragu on flat pasta, and I ordered the meatloaf which had a delicious blueberry gravy like I've never tasted before. All amazingly delicious. The atmosphere is nice. The lamb was outstanding, but the coffee tasted burnt, indicating (cheap coffee, or unclean coffee maker, or old coffee). For COVID, they opened up the courtyard area for outdoor seating, and it was so beautiful and moody I loved it. Service was amazing, food didn't come fast but server was attentive and friendly. We ordered almost half of their menu with 3 appetizers, soup and salad, and 5 entrees. The fondu is amazing if you love cheese, my favorite entree of the night was the blueberry meat loaf. The name sounds overpowering but the flavors are quite delicate and amazing. The lamb shank was over cooked to the point that the outside was burnt black and the flavoring with the sauce and horseradish purée with corn was a little too adventurous for me. The wagyu burger is not on the menu and must be ordered prior to arrival because of the popularity. I didn't try it but the fam said it was juicy. The wagyu steak with wasabi foam was delicious and so pretty to look at. (Also the most expensive dish on the menu that night). Deserts are all super pretty for presentation. My favorite is the raspberry pana cota with black berries and pickled blueberries, the fam also liked the warm donut with bacon bits and the strawberry cake. Overall, great tasting! Overall, great little quaint date spot. Great service and good food. We sat outdoors, which is very nice ambiance, inside seemed alright.

We were staying nearby for a ski weekend and found Francks as the best rated restaurant in the area and of course made a reservation. It's not a huge restaurant but fairly cute on the inside. The most interesting thing is a huge TV in the back where we can watch the chefs at work since there is no open kitchen here. Our waitress was super friendly and knew the menu very well. Just a warning, the portions are absolutely HUGE here. So order accordingly. The main reason we did not order the famous meatloaf is because it looks scary big, like it could feed me for 4 meals big... CRISPY BRUSSEL SPOUTS - This was the best dish of the night for sure. We love sprouts and this was probably 1 of the best we have ever had. We find out that the sprouts are actually fried, so makes sense that they were perfectly crispy all over and not burnt at all. The apple cider reduction provided a nice sweet and tart contrast. SPRING PEA AND CORIANDER SOUP - A very interesting cold soup that is perfect for the spring. As the waitress described, the coriander is the most prominent flavor with the pea mostly as a the base. This was quite good as well. MISHIMA WAGYU SIRLOIN - The trick here to very tender beef is of course good meat to start with, but also sous vide. Young veggies and pomegranate made this a very spring-y dish as well. This was the smallest entree by far and just the right amount. I will take away some points here because we asked for rare and it came out medium rare. IMO as far as Wagyu beef is concerned, the rare the better! BRAISED PORK BELLY - This dish was probably my least favorite but it's a little bit of a love and hate. The pork belly itself was incredibly melt in your mouth tender and very flavorful. However like many other things here, it was just way too big. And because it was so fatty and big, there just ended up being a pool of oil at the bottom of the dish which was unappetizing. I would have liked something lighter to pair with pork belly and cut the fat a little bit. Lastly, the environment here is a little confusing. For an area of SLC that's not really populated, they offer valet service. While free, I didn't really see the point except for making people feel more fancy. The same applies to charger plates. I have seen maybe 2 restaurants ever use charger plates, and weddings, and it's something more old school and a little overly formal. But at the same time, water was served in big tumbler glasses, which is not "fancy". It makes me thing they're trying a little too hard to be "fine dining" when it really doesn't make a difference when the food is excellent. Overall, the food and service here are both great with only a couple of misses. You're certainly going to get bang for your buck here! read more

I really love going to Francks for special occasions! They really are a restaurant in Utah that truly has a unique atmosphere about it. I have only had the opportunity to visit twice, but the two times that I visited were really something special. They do have a standard menu that you can order off of, but every single night that you are at Francks, there is a theme of the evening and with that there is a special chef's menu that you can order off of. The Chef's special is never the same as previous days and I think that's what makes Francks so fun and being such a fancy restaurant you get excellent food as well. read more

I love everything we ordered partially I would recommend the lamb shank , and carrot cake was a big surprise for me. The environment was quite cozy, I love smaller restaurant personally. My husband and I came for a date night and were thoroughly impressed with every course we got! The fondue was amazing. We considered ordering the double portion just given the names "single" and "double" but thank goodness our server, Jessica, told us the single was more than enough for 2 because she was definitely right!! The meatloaf was melt in your mouth amazing. My husband does not like meatloaf but he kept asking for more bites of my meal after I let him try it! The fried chicken was incredible as well. The breading was one of the best I've ever had on any fried chicken. Finally, the carrot cake was the perfect dessert to top it all off. The cream cheese frosting is to die for! Hidden gem in Holladay! This fine dining establishment is a winner. From the beautiful gardens when you walk in, to the quaint and cozy space inside, to the delectable food. We started with the crispy Brussels sprouts, some of the best we've had in Utah. The balsamic glaze and slivered almonds gave them the perfect touch. We had to try the house made biscuits with berry salted butter... oh my gosh, melt in your mouth amazing! You have to try them! We then had a tomato heirloom pie pastry, and I can't even begin to tell you how incredible it was! Wow, I had no idea a little tomato pie could touch my foodie heart. Outstanding. We shared the Thursday burger special and the meatloaf. I loved the meatloaf, but it was a little sweet for my husband. The burger was great too, a little too much dill, but still delicious. The icing on the cake was our incredible waiter. He knew every in and out of everything on the menu. I think his name was David, nicest, coolest waiter. Accidentally walked into this restaurant a few weeks back and decided to come back and try it out. Definitely one of the best high end restaurants in salt lake. Franks is a place where a low key vibe meets classy. Definitely recommend sitting in the courtyard as the lights and music add to the ambiance. We started with a delicious 3 cheese Kirsch liquor fondue that was a little tangy and very creamy perfectly accompanied the fluffy sourdough bread. Next we had the spicy thai tomango peanut soup. Litterally best most creative spin on a tomato soup ever. Cut with a little cream it had the peanuty flavor of curry, the sweetness of a mango, and the great original taste of a tomato soup. My main entree was the wagyu beef and my mother ordered the pork loin. The presentation was incredibly beautiful and Both tasted fantastic. I loved the play on textures that this dish had. Sweet strawberries, and perfectly season mashed potatoes, yet with a spicy kick from the wasabi. The beef was cooked to perfection and my mother's pork was incredibly tender. Although the food took a bit to get out to us, it was more than worth it. It gave us time to take in the venue have a great conversation and enjoy our appetizers. The waitress and hostess were also incredible. Jessica and Lisa respectively made us feel like family while we dinned. We didn't feel rushed but rather they made the experience exquisite. Lisa to our surprise also brought us out an amazing dessert. A creamy pudding, with carmolized apples walnuts and bourbon ice cream. If you go there make sure you ask for them. They're amazing. When visitng my brother and his girlfriend in Salt Lake City this past year, we wanted to go somewhere a little fancier than the places you might find up in Park City or an average restaurant downtown. Before flying out there, I got us a reservation for 4 on a Friday night. The place was a little bit outside of the city but easy enough to find! It's not the biggest place inside but when we were seated we weren't scrunched up next to other tables or being bothered with other guests' conversation which was nice. The server we had - unfortunately I forgot her name - was fantastic all night. She helped us pick out some champagne, and described a lot of the dishes for us. We started with the fondue and the Brussels Sprouts to share amongst the table. Both were EXCELLENT. The fondue was made with gruyere (my favorite), emmental, and swiss. The brussels sprouts had parmesan on top and almonds throughout. The sprouts were incredible. Crunchy and super flavorful. My brother was NOT having it when I ordered them but ended up absolutely loving them. For my entree, I got Franck's meatloaf. It's not your typical meatloaf, made with slow braised pulled pork, beef and chicken, banana squash, whipped potatoes and a Wild Berry-Lavender Sauce. I had seen a ton of pictures of this on yelp and while I'm not usually a huge fan of meatloaf, I decided to go for it. I'd say it ended up being about a 3.5/5 for me so a pretty good dish. Tasting good, being unique with the ingredients and then plating it like they did made it well worth it! Pardon my French, but...sainte merde! One of the best meals we've had in Utah. This could be my longest review ever. If I got into every aspect that was perfect at Franck's, no one would read this. Absolute perfection. All of it - without exception. I see no need for much further explanation of every item and aspect. Beautiful place, exquisite service by a ninja staff who delivered everything we asked for, and more, without intrusion, nearly before we asked for it. Here's what our party of four consumed, primarily in silence, save the occasional gasp of joy: Appetizers - - Beets (I don't even know what they called them, just get it for the love of mary) - Brussel's Sprouts (everything you've heard is true - even if you HATE Brussel's Sprouts, you won't know what hit you) Wine - Bottle of '07 Gigondas Côtes du Rhône - worth every penny. Largest wine list I've seen in Utah (shared list with Tuscany). Soup/Salad - Two of us had the soup, two had the wedge salad. The soup was a peanut butter curry soup, which on paper was not appealing. However, everyone knows that at Franck's, you ORDER THE SOUP no matter what it sounds like. This was no exception to that rule. It was magical. The salad was gobbled up by the others, but didn't get the raves the soup did. Entrees - Two got the meatloaf. Both could not have been happier with that decision. Had licking the plate been something Hubby could've gotten away with, he definitely would have done it. I caught his wheels turning and put a stop to it. The sea bass was another happy choice, and another very clean plate. My plate consisted of the sous vide Wagyu sirloin. At this point, I should disclose that I'm not much of a beef eater. We just don't get along, beef and I. Our delightful waiter's description of this dish forced me to order it. I don't remember looking up. I'm sure I did, but I think I tasted it, saw a flash of light, heard some angels, and was thrown clear. Seriously knocked my socks off. Dessert - (had to be done) Carrot Cake - it was beautifully plated and was even more pleasing to the pallet than it was pleasing to the eye. Triple Chocolate Trifle - very small and light. Just what I needed to wrap up this incredible meal. Details - Make reservations - they make it easy, and they remind you. Free, very well-managed valet parking. Easy to find; right next door to Tuscany. They don't enforce a dress code, but please people, dress up just a little. I don't care who you are.
