If I were basing my review on my main course alone, it would be FIVE STARS for sure. I got the meat loaf and WOW, it was incredible. The berry sauce they put it that was insanely good. It blended so well with the squash and potatoes. The meat was very tender and had great flavor. Best meatloaf I've ever eaten. I've been craving it ever since. The rest of our meal was great, just not mind blowing. I got the salad, the hubbs got the soup. Both great. The jalapeños on my salad complemented the garden herb dressing very well. Not too much spice. We shared the Stefano Barrata starter and we probably won't get that again. It was good, but I'm sure there are better choices on the menu. Gorgeous area for the restaurant. Great service. Too full to try a dessert, unfortunately. But I'd love to go back someday because I was very impressed with Francks. UPDATE: I only gave 4 stars last time because I didn't love everything we tried. But this time...INCREDIBLE. And we tried a lot of things. We were a party of 4 so we got three starters, four meals and three desserts. We were little piggies and enjoyed every second of it. Starters: if you only make one good decision tonight, that would be to get the Brussel sprout starter. I can't even describe it. Just trust me!!! Fondue= also amazing. I wish I could come up with new describing words. But just know everything was amazing. The $4 biscuits with special butter. Wow. One of the best biscuits I've ever had in my life. I got the meatloaf again. Did not disappoint. The hubbies got the lamb and beef dishes. Also incredible. Francks definitely knows how to cook their meats. And we turned the beet starter into a meal. That goat cheese is top notch. So dang good. Desserts: wow! The carrot cake is a MUST GET. Again with the goat cheese. Who would've thought. It was moist. It was amazing. Get it now! The butterscotch dessert was my second fav. So good. The donuts was the only dish all night I wasn't blown away with. But everything else...wow. Ever get the caving for a burger that oozes with flavor and breaks the mold of being boring? Then Francks in Holiday is your new discovery. One day a week, it's "Burger Thursday". Burger's big enough to share, or tend to the hardest of appetites. The best part is they're different every week so so can go more than once. My friend and I ordered their roasted Brussel sprouts as an appetizer. I know, just order them and you'll be deliciously surprised. They're a house specialty. Then we shared the Allium Burger. Garlic wagyu sirloin with slow roasted sweet onion, Gruyère cheese, onion glazed bacon, pickled shallot, raw sweet onion, arugula, chive mayo served on a carmelized egg yoke bun with house made garlic blue-cheese russet potato chips. Mouth watering yet? Then a pare it with a cold beer and it's the perfect "gourmet burger".The burger is priced at $25 plus the beer. But sharing can be enough for two unless you must have your own burger. The service is always impeccable, the restaurant low key and elegant. Franck's offers some daily specials: Tuesday three course tasting for $35, ice cream Wednesdays, each Thursday a special hamburger. You can follow them on Instagram and Facebook to be notified of the features each week, and recently, when a post popped up for the burger I figured that was the best chance of my hubby agreeing to dine here (he's more a pizza guy). I made a reservation on Open Table the night prior. On arrival, we walked through a pretty outdoor setting with water fountains, gardens, and umbrella covered tables. I would have loved to sit outside, but with grey clouds threatening rain at any moment, we were relegated to the indoors. That space is relatively small, and though some have described it as feeling cozy or homey, it oddly reminded me of a slightly dated hotel interior. For a winter meal, the fireplace could be quite charming. Franck's is sort of fine dining, at least for Utah. The style is French American, with a focus on seasonal dishes. Prices average $15 for starters, $30 for entrees, and a little over $10 for dessert. The menu appears well thought out and while only one page, not too limited. The wine list is expansive. We started with an order of biscuits, and they arrived warm, quite large, with a nice crisped exterior, on a plate adorned with a generous crescent of mildly sweet whipped miso honey butter. We both truly enjoyed them (though my husband said I make better biscuits, ha!). Everyone says you MUST ORDER THE SOUP no matter what it is, and I love soup, so this is something I can get behind! On my visit, it was preserved lemon curry, and that sounded inventive and delicious. What arrived was okay, but not amazing. Sort of like a thin, oddly sweet curry gravy poured over crème fraiche that never fully melted, even after some serious stirring. The best part was the crispy bits of brioche garnishing the top. Also, why couldn't they pretty it up with a pansy, nasturtium or other blossom? Franck's is known for their attractive presentation, and this was lackluster. My salad, just like the soup, was good, but nothing particularly special (though I appreciated the improved presentation). I also noticed after finishing mine that they'd left off the puff of carrots adorning all the other diner's salads. Of course my husband had the burger: a monstrosity with dripping cheese, zucchini pickles, corn, arugula, and an unfortunate chili sauce that entirely soaked and softened the bun, not to mention dripped everywhere. The house made "Frito" chips were crispy and seasoned well, but by the time he finished his burger, those remaining on his plate had softened in that dang oily chili sauce. He also had two cocktails: A Holladay Mule (waaaay to syrupy) and Lemongrass Thai Basil Mojito (much better - the basil was an especially nice note). Maybe, just maybe, a dessert would afford us the signature Franck's experience! They have several options, including ice cream (on our visit: mint rosemary, tigers blood, or lemonade) and sorbet (coconut, guava, and one more I don't recall). We opted for miso pot de crème, then waited a good fifteen minutes. That felt like a long time for dessert that most likely was already prepared, or nearly so. Finally, it arrived, and it was....good. Fine. Like everything else. Tapioca pudding was too sweet, I didn't notice any of the passion fruit cake, though I appreciated the texture added by the crunchy cornflakes and coconut. Mango was a much needed foil to all the sugar, but it was not a really lovely luscious ripe mango, and I think Franck's should be able to manage that. The ginger vinegar might have been better drizzled over top, as we didn't really taste any until the last few bites, and it may have balanced things out, though even that was too sweet. It was SO LOUD in here. Like, patrons were straight up yelling to each other, and I couldn't hear half of what my husband was saying from across our bitty two top table. Maybe this was due to the fact that the majority of diners were quite a bit older and perhaps hard of hearing, and I can't really blame Franck's for that. Yet it honestly ruined our experience, and halfway through our meal I was just itching to get out of there where I could at least hear myself think. Service was fine, but not exemplary. Often it was slow, and our waters remained empty for some time not once, but twice. In fact, the best service was from the valet who jogged to retrieve our vehicle, rolled down the windows since it had been sitting in the sun, and turned the AC on full blast. Without even one dish that truly blew me away, I was disappointed. I had admittedly high expectations, but based on others' experiences I do not think they were unfounded. With mostly uninspired (and overly sweetened, even in decidedly savory) dishes, average to slightly neglectful service, and poor ambiance, all at the high end (for this area) price-wise, I'm sad to say it is unlikely I'll return anytime soon. read more

Francks has amazing ambiance and GREAT service. That being said, the food fell a bit short for me. I got the lamb shank, Brussel sprouts and fried chicken. The lamb shank was great! However, the sauce it was under seemed extremely misplaced. The bitter/sweet sauce didn't go with the savory lamb shank. The pickled orange on top also seemed a bit strange. Same with the fried chicken. Great fried chicken, but the sides didn't compliment it very well. The Thai coconut sauce was super weird with the savory fried chicken. The boiled sour peanuts on top were also a bit confusing. The Brussel sprouts were definitely delicious. A bit too much balsamic vinegar for me, but still great. Overall, great service and ambiance. The protein of all the dishes were solid, but the sides and sauces were a huge miss for me. I might come back again and ask for no sauces under the main protein next time. read more

This was our final stop for our weeklong trip through Yellowstone and the mountain states, and eventually SLC; we wanted to end things with a nice dinner. We tried: - Beet salad with orange and ricotta - good, nothing special, seems like every mid-to-up scale new american restaurant has this on their menu as a starter. - crispy brussels sprouts - FANTASTIC. also a popular side everywhere but this one was done just right. good balance of savory, sweet, sour, and slightly bitter. - Gochujang PB&J emulsion - fancy way to say soup. very interesting and unique flavor. but I couldn't take more than two spoonfuls of this before i got sick of it. not something I would order again. - iceberg salad - bland and boring, even for an iceberg lettuce salad. - wagyu coulotte - aka top sirloin cap. great piece of meat, slow roasted to a perfectly tender medium rare. unfortunately, it was way over-marinated. The outer-layer of the steak was so salty, I found myself wanting to "cut off the crust" like a kid does to a PB&J sandwich and eat just the middle. All-in-all, service-wise, half the people working there just didn't seem all too happy to be there. Maybe it's pandemic-fatigue. Maybe it was the final hours of a long busy day. Maybe it's because we were the only non-white people in the entire establishment. Whatever it was, the tables around us seemed to get far more attention and some complimentary dishes. I just love this place. Francks is a spectacular place and I highly recommend it for any type of celebration: birthday, promotion, anniversary, etc. I've been here a few times and each time I leave blown away. The steak is tender, the meatloaf is outrageously flavorful, the soups are always unique and an explosion of flavor in the mouth. I could go on and on. If the outstanding flavors weren't enough, you get an incredible presentation with amazing service. The restaurant is adorable inside, but the patio in the summer is amazing as well. Their carrot cake dessert will make you question if you died and went to heaven. And the best part? The prices aren't insane for what you're getting. I rarely review restaurants but I need to review this place to save someone in the future. I had a 7:30 reservation and showed up about 15 minutes early. The hostess did get us seated fairly quickly and that is one of the only three good things this place did tonight. My girlfriend and I were on a celebration dinner and ready to try a place that was highly rated. For the appetizers we ordered the beets plus the tomato pie and they were ok but I had higher hopes. We then split the soup and salad to get a variety and the same story with the salad however the soup was delicious (the second good thing about this place). This is now where things really went downhill as we waited nearly 45 minutes for our entree....... As we waited the young tall gentleman with dark curly hair kept our waters full. He was the only one who paid attention to us during that time as we were clearly forgotten. Thank you young man for that, I wish I got your name so I could sing more praise to you! (The last good thing in my review). It was getting close to closing when I had enough and called it. My girlfriend and I got up and went to the front desk at 8:50 (still no entree) to pay for what we ate. They could clearly see that we were not happy and didn't even offer to comp any of our meal, instead they offered a gift certificate to come back like we are going to go through that let down again. No thank you! There is definitely a reason Francks last award that they proudly hang on their wall was from 2011. Such a let down, please hear me out and go elsewhere, there are way better places that don't even cost as much and you will still have time at the end of your evening to do something else besides stare at the walls. read more

This is one of the most incredible fine dining restaurants in the salt lake valley. You will leave this restaurant having tried multiple dishes and it isn't the most affordable restaurant but it is worth it! You MUST start out with the cheese fondue if you like that. It come out in a sizzling pan and left warm over a fire on your table. Next the brussles spouts are an absolute 10/10. Roasted with an apple cider reduction. Just perfect! You can go wrong with any of the meals but this time we got the meatloaf, and it's not your moms typical meatloaf. It is extremely tender, almost falling apart, and is cooked in a blueberry sauce. It is like nothing you've ever tried. We also got the fried chicken which is total, comfort food! Ended the night off with the carrot cake which is unbelievable. It is wrapped in a white and dark chocolate shell and made with a yogurt mouse. It is heavy but delicious comfort food in a very charming cottage. read more

Absolutely incredible through and through. Francks is nestled in a beautiful area of trees and lights next to Tuscany and gives off quite the enchanting vibe. It has a cabin, homey feel but classy at the same time. The food was amazing, we ordered the ramen and the meatballs(trust us though, these are no ordinary ramen or meatballs). The drinks and service were fabulous as well. We didn't love the Brussels spouts because they were over seasoned with the extra stuff for our taste, but they were still good. This place is exceptional! Their food really is some of the best. They've got some creative dishes without being too bizarre and the chef really nails everything. Third time here and I think it's been better than the last every time I go. The food was amazing but our server Tyler made the experience that much better. We didn't order drinks tonight and shared a meal because sometimes two meals is too much for us. I sometimes feel that a cheap bill should result in sub par service. Tyler did not treat us that way at all. To be honest he made me feel like we were his most important table of the night with how amazing his service was. His recommendations were phenomenal and we will absolutely be back. Our favorite item was the wagyu, I would rank it as the best steak entree I've had. It's not necessarily the best restaurant in the State, but it's the best small chef driven restaurant in the State. The food is consistently very good to excellent. It shows Franck's sensibilities. Watching the chefs cook in the kitchen is like watching ballet. There is an economy of movement and purposefulness in every move. The servers have been around a long time and really enjoy working here. Good service always helps make an enjoyable evening. If you are here finishing a meal as the kitchen is closing down, you are likely to see Franck come out an visit with diners. Last night was a perfect evening to be sitting outdoors. The temperature was perfect and there was a nice mix of customers. I know I should write more details on the food, but others have done that better than I. We have enjoyed several great meals here, before Covid. After a long winter we wanted a special occasion. We were a bit disappointed, sadly. We ordered fondue. It took almost 30 minutes, but it was good. Our second courses were fairly standard, not spectacular. Our main courses were good but not great. They were not hot but tepid. The ambiance was indeed spectacular outside. However, the live music across the street at Cotton Bottom ruined it. (The singer that night had a real knack for destroying songs that were originally enjoyable.). We had a wonderful evening together but could have done so for $200 less than we spent. Ok, Franck. I died and went to culinary heaven. I mean... Let's back up. The hubs took us here for our anniversary. Hearing where we were headed put an instant smile on this face of mine! Here's the breakdown. First, the atmosphere. It could either be casual or upscale. Saw a mix and it was very laid back. Next, the service. Top. Notch!!! The host was very personable. Our waitress was attentive, helpful and relaxed. Lastely, yes... the food. Ready? Let's dive. Franck. I think I'm in love with you. Just kidding (but seriously.) There I was, content knowing of Franck's and nothing of the cuisine. Then, BAM! Pork belly touched my tongue and my world came crashing all around me. The sounds were silenced, the people faded and it was just Franck's dish and me. Like no one and nothing else in the world existed.... Mmm. Ok, back to the food. The pork belly was sensational. I ate so...very...slow. Then came the brussel sprouts. Everything started to come back. The sounds of forks tapping the plates, couples and friends laughing...oh, and me realizing that I was moaning. Yes, I was moaning and no joke was getting louder, as was my repeated phrase "oh, man" oh, man". I had a lump in my throat. Literally wanted to cry. I've only ever felt that way NEVER! I asked Chris if I could kiss the chef. He gave me permission and I even relayed this our waitress (I didn't say I wasn't a little crazy). Alas, Franck didn't show. *enter sad face* ;) My fuck, it didn't stop there. The wine was perfect. We had PB&J w/chili oil soup. That's right, our minds didn't know how to process it. But, we are talking about Franck. He's super-f***ing brilliant. So he put fried peanuts and a few nuggets of dried bread (not sure what kind), it was no ordinary crouton. It felt like I was eating and drinking a PB&J and it was nearly the best thing ever. Then a refreshing salad with fennel dressing. I think this is my ONLY feedback. The salad alone wouldn't have been at all great or exciting. What made it amazing was that it was right after the soup. So, having a soup/salad option for this type of dish would be a nice balance. Ok. The entrees. I had the ribs with Orange and Rosemary sauce, topped with arugula. Oh hell, how could things keep escalating!?! The flavors were sensational. Chris's burger was succulent. Dessert was a Whiskey something and like everything else, no one flavor overpowered the others. The texture was beautiful. Franck's has broken us.
