I ordered Fondue for 2, Fried Chicken with gritz, Side salad, a Korean dish with French flair, and a wonderful Strawberry Ice cream. The fondue blew my mind and reminded me of my experience when visiting France for the first time. Each dish had a unique flavor that was both unexpected and wonderfully refreshing for Salt Lake dining. The suggested wine pairing from our Server was spot on. Tricia (our server) was very professional and personable so our experience was relaxing without out all the stiffness of a Paris bistro. When a meal for two cost more than a round trip ticket to Vegas, you expect to be 'wowed'. It should be something truly special; a meal you should be talking about for days after. You shouldn't leave the restaurant with a tinge of regret. I can be a sucker for food I'm 'supposed' to like. When a chef is so obviously talented, when the service and ambience is so impressive, and when the price is well into the three figures, my expectations can interfere with my honest evaluation. In contrast, The Blonde has never been one to be impressed by style over substance. She is more guileless when it comes to such matters, and her discerning palate concluded what I was reluctant to admit. This beautiful, and sometimes inspired meal was simply not worth the price. (pics) The beautiful presentation of the mushroom tart appetizer belied it's utter blandness. The banana soup was intriguing, but marred by a slightly grainy texture. The mussel appetizer with an overly sweet beurre blanc sauce didn't work. The accompanying pommes frites were good, but the meager dinner salad was a joke. The Blonde was thoroughly impressed with her special trout entree, and felt the combination of flavors was seamless. I ordered their signature meatloaf, which earns points for it's silky texture and perfectly executed wild berry sauce. The Lemon Trio dessert was nice, with the creme brulee being the best part. I am not a fan of the television in the dining room showing the chefs preparing the meals in the kitchen. It's like seeing behind the curtain at a magic show. The mystique of the event is compromised. Next time I consider returning to Franck's, I think I'll just fly to Sin City instead. read more

Went here for my pre-birthday dinner. I recommend you to book in advance since this place is unbelievably packed after 7 pm. Oh and remember to bring some cash because there was only valet parking available. Great atmosphere. Cute little building and cozy environment. Quite at first because we were the only few customers there, but as more and more people coming in, it got pretty noisy, I could barely hear my friends talking. The service was wonderful. Our waiter did a great job in explaining the menu to us. We've ordered their famous appetizers--Brussels Spout and Mushroom Tart. They were both amazing, especially the Brussels Spout, it was the most amazing appetizer I've never had. For entrée, I've got the Sea Bass. The Bass was tender and it tasted weirdly good with the curry sauce, though it got a bit salty towards the end. The lamb was ok, but I've had better. I think the side dishes were better than the main courses or because the appetizers were too outstanding, it outshone the entrées, or maybe a bit of both. read more

I've waited too long to yelp about Francks. I love Franck. He's fun, humble, charming, and talented, and the food he makes are so delicious I wish I could go and visit him at least once a week if I can. The first time I went to Franck's was not as smooth as I anticipated. My husband made a reservation for my birthday and when we got there we were stopped by a young gentleman who knocked on our window and said, "I can take over now." I was like, "huh?" Apparently if you'd like to park on the premises it would always be valet... even though the parking spots are right in front of you. We were then told that we could park outside the premises (on the dirt road) if we chose to park our own car. I got a little irritated, mainly because I was the birthday girl and I expected everyone to be super nice to me (OK I was being silly,) and the "valet surprise" was just a little bit weird to me. People who know me know I make a deal out of silly little things... and this was enough to make me wanna just leave. BUT, but my husband eventually sweet-talk me into going in and enjoying the evening. I was glad I did as soon as I walked into the restaurant. The atmosphere was elegant yet casual, and the server was phenomenal. Both my husband and I (each) got an appetizer, a soup, an entree, and a dessert, plus a couple glasses of wine. Now that was a lot of food and enjoyment. Everything was cooked to perfection, and wherever there was puff pastries involved in a dish Franck made it so perfect I was totally feeling the love. We've been there a couple more times since, and each time we'd park outside (in front of the "franck's" sign), and the service was perfect, and the food was superb. Yay for Franck! read more

The ambiance is really outdated and old and the food was mediocre at best though very beautiful presentation. Everything seemed like there was a lot of added sugar to it, even my. Wagyu was sugary. One of our new favorite places! The ambience, service, and especially the food were amazing. We got the brussel sprouts, biscuits, southern fried chicken, pork chops, ice cream sandwich, and carrot cake. You can't go wrong with any of those. The thai chili flavoring and cook on the chicken was incredible. The carrot cake is a must-have: it has goat cheese cream frosting and a white chocolate shell, and was one of the best desserts I've had. This place definitely lived up to it's reputation. Hands down this is one of the best places to dine in Utah. The food is absolutely divine. I wouldn't leave this place unless you've tried the portobello mushroom appetizer, any of their soups and the Wagyu. Top it off with a pot de creme and my friend you have gone to Heaven. We've been going to Francks for years and have always enjoyed it. Our latest visit was disappointing however. The service was excellent, the food was very good (although I think it was better in the past) and the ambience is cozy. So why the 3 star rating? Well at the end of the meal, we were all feeling euphoric as you do after fine dining with good friends but on the bill was a $50 corkage fee for 2 bottles of wine. Granted to don't go to Francks for a cheap meal but that hit all of us like price gouging and was a real sour note to leave on. read more

Made reservations for dinner with our family of nine adults. We were all excited in anticipation of a wonderful and memorable dinner celebrating a birthday. Four out of the ten of us ordered their signature meatloaf. OMG it was terrible. Way too salty for any of us to do anymore than consume a courteous amount. If you're looking for a very intimate and romantic place to eat, this is the place to go! Reservations are highly recommended, if not required. The restaurant is very small, so you do want to make sure that you have reservations just in case. My husband and I have been coming here every year on our anniversary for the last few years and we just love the service, the food options, and how it changes. There are a few food staples that stay the same year over year, but they do switch up their menu depending on the day. There's a cool TV, so you can see what's going on in the kitchen, but other than that this is a very very tiny restaurant, and right in the heart of holiday! It's worth the time to make a reservation and to come here and enjoy it. The whole experience takes about two hours, so be prepared to spend some time here. Came for a ski weekend and just had an amazing dinner at Franck's. It may seem like the middle of no where, but definitely worth a trip. Had Brussels sprouts, wagyu steak, and short ribs that were all fantastic. But the two standouts from the meal was a porcini w/ white chocolate emulsion soup and the Brioche Parker House dinner rolls that came steaming hot and so soft inside they melted in your mouth like Butter. Will certainly return. Only downside I'd say is the atmosphere is somewhat sedate, but that may be exactly what you're looking for. So enjoy! read more

The decor seems late 1990s and a bit out dated but it was cool to be able to watch on a huge flat screen a part of the kitchen while the chefs moved around making dishes. We started off with the small fondue which was exceptional and a salad which we split. In hindsight we could have skipped the salad. Nothing too special and it was under seasoned. For the main dishes we had the Waygu beef and fried chicken. The beef was tasty and very tender but the toppings incorporated seemed confusing - cooked and mushy strawberries, BBQ leftover potato chips and a few other components that were too much. The fried chicken was tasty but the mashed/puréed food on the bottom was a bit too sweet. I also didn't like how the fried portion just fell off the chicken pieces and didn't retain. Maybe because there wasn't any skin? I also didn't understand the julienne raw chewy carrots on top. Maybe if they were pickled it would have added to the texture and flavors but it felt like all the flavors were confused. The desserts made up for it - Bananas roasted with goat cheese ice cream, toasted almonds and blueberries. We also tried the coconut budine. But the biscuit was amazing! Probably one of the best I've ever had!! I got the beet goat cheese salad for my dinner which is an appetizer but very filling- it was SO GOOD. We finished the night trying 3 different desserts- favorite goat cheese filled carrot cake. I wish it was bigger. For $10 it was the size of a cupcake. Franck's was a very interesting restaurant. Indeed they have one of the best fried chicken, the pickle peanuts was a good combination with the chicken. However, if the mash potatoes could be switch to truffle fries might be better. The appetizer was great, especially the fondues, but their soups was very aged cheese so it tasted like stinky socks. Dessert was interesting because they use miso ice cream so that was very interesting. Overall I do recommend this restaurant. read more

I've been here twice now and I've loved the experience each time I've come. It's a bit pricey so I've reserved coming to Franck's for special occasions such as birthdays or anniversaries, and so far I haven't been disappointed. I really enjoy how each dish is something new and surprising. You don't come to this restaurant for pizza or hamburgers, you come here to have your pallet delighted with exquisite layers of flavor hidden within each dish. My wife and I have been to Francks 4 times now, and we will definitely be back for a 5th. Every time we've opted to eat there the experience has been wonderful. It is one of the rare places in Utah where the servers are professional and the food is consistently fantastic. If you've ever lived in France (or Europe in general) you would understand that dining is about taking time to talk and enjoy what you are eating and drinking. We decided to try Franck's for the first time as a romantic restaurant for our 5 year anniversary. When you first arrive they have a free valet parking which although unessesary at the time we arrived it only added to the feel of the restaurant. We were greeted by Mike who showed us to the are in which we could sit, we were served by Mickael who was very open to give honest opinions and recommendations about the food. Everyone we met that night was kind and courteous. We started off the night with the 3 cheese fondue, it was unique but the flavor was amazing, it was served with a bowl of bread. It was a hard choice between that and the Brussel sprouts. I had done the split pea and ham emulation, it was tasty but not my favorite. For dinner we did the "Root beer float" burger, it had many unique flavors that we had never tried, all put together it was juicy and little greesy but full of flavor and filling. The other was the grouper, this was my first time eating a white fish that didn't disgust me. Not only was the flavor savory, the fish was perfectly cooked with a nice crispy sear. For desert we had requested the daily made donut, this was good enough in its own for us to come back for a second trip. It was a mascarpone cheese filled donut with a hazel nut with chick pea sauce on the plate. The filling tasted like it had a whiskey or brandy mix or something but it was amazing. I had let them know it was our anniversary when I made the reservations, they had made the night feel special they went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. The food, people, presentation and atmosphere have made Franck's a business we will happily return too! read more

From start to finish this was a wonderful experience! Miko was an excellent server who was very attentive, friendly, had excellent recommendations and allowed us to savor our dinner. I had the Grouper with mango and crab in a browned butter reduction. The fish was excellently prepared and fork tender. My husband had the Wagyu steak with a lovely wasabi cream, it was melt in your mouth tender. For starters we enjoyed the brussel sprouts that were covered in a thyme/ sherry like sauce with aged parmesan. I could die happy with that dish alone. We also really enjoyed the butter biscuits that were flaky and buttery with a light miso honey butter. We didn't have room for dessert but we will be back. Such a great experience!! read more

Does anyone else do their "happy dance" while eating? Well, this place gives me the moves. I love everything here! We came in here on a Saturday Galentines night, located by the Tuscany and they have valet parking so you won't worry about finding a parking spot. I've been hearing about great comments about this place, and they were not wrong. There's the feeling of l'amour as you stood outside of the Francks, I love how the warm white lights hanging on the trees surrounding the place. As we walked inside there's a wood fire burning in an open fireplace to keep the guests warm and feel comfortable with it's muted lighting. We were seated at the corner close to the television displaying the Chefs inside the kitchen, felt a little weird but at the same time, it makes you excited for your food. My top Appetizers are the Brussel Sprouts, so crispy and indulgent in aged parmesan, sherry vinegar, and almonds. The Octopus appetizer is my second fave but I totally forgot how they call it, so tender and incredibly delicious. And on the mains, Frank's Meatloaf with mashed potatoes under and perfectly surrounded with blueberry sauce is superb! My thoughts about Meatloaf was never the same again after I had theirs. No wonder it became the staple food in this place aside from their famous crispy Brussels sprouts. Hands up on the creativity and effort they put in every detail of their food. My wife and I had the fondue, pumpkin soup, orange lamb, lavender meatloaf, and carrot cake along with three glasses of wine for 140.00 tip another 30.00 It was a birthday dinner and we made reservations. Showed up early and they "made room" ie they sat us at one of the several open tables. Service was excellent. We were there at 620pm and I wanted one of their cheeseburgers cause they sounded good. Nope! you have to call in advance and they are only on Thursdays. Honestly you can't stock a few cheeseburgers? I was a little incredulous but whatever. Overall the fondue was good. Soup was delicious but served luke warm. Orange lamb was very well done, but the orange"mandarin" sauce was just ok. The meatloaf was decent, but had a blueberry sauce that did not go very well. We hadn't been to Franck's for almost 11 years and were excited to go back during our trip to Utah. We were surprised we could get a table on a Saturday night, that should have been our first clue. My husband tried to order 2 different entrees which they were both out of which was super frustrating. We ordered the brussel sprouts for an appetizer which was huge and should be a side for entrees. My husband ended up ordering the $50 wagu which to be honest was just ok, we've had way better steaks. I had the scallops was also disappointed. Our food came out right after our appetizer which doesn't give you much time to talk and enjoy anything. We were bummed that our memories of Franck's weren't the same. This evening we took our daughter for a special birthday dinner. The three of us thoroughly enjoyed a great dinner and exceptional service. I ordered a specialty cocktail and hubby had bourbon. For appetizers we had t biscuits that just melt in your mouth. The braised beet salad with goat cheese was great. For the entrees we had fried chicken. The portion was big enough to feed two. I actually took two pieces home to have for lunch the next day. Husband had lamb shank which he said was delicious and my daughter had the meatloaf (another hit). We had to have the carrot cake even though we were full. Carrot cake was hands down the best I have had. It was to die for. We definitely will be back. read more

There are few creative, casual but fine dining restaurants in the Salt Lake City area. Though it's apparently been around for 11 years I had never heard of Francks. Have I missed out! It's located in a peaceful little glen in Holladay. The outside patio tables make considering sitting inside a lame thought...until you go inside. The decor is clean, crisp, inviting, elegant casual, and must have had a tasteful restaurant designer's creativity behind it. The menu might be described as gourmet comfort food...taking "down home" dishes (fried chicken, meat loaf, fish) and reconceiving them as a Michelin chef might do. I won't try to describe the amazing mixture of flavors and textures that are used but, believe me, they are interesting and delicious, prepared by a kitchen that knows what it's doing. I had "Mary's Southern Fried Chicken"; deep-fried, very crispy on the outside and very hot and moist on the inside. My wife had wild King Salmon, again, cooked just right and with the flavor that only wild salmon provides. The kitchen is so well organized and spotless that half of it is broadcast into the dining room on closed-circuit TV. Drew was our server and measured up in every way, personable, attentive, familiar with the menu, the deserving recepient of a big tip. The valet parks your car at no charge. We had a $100-$120 meal and experience...but the check was only $86 including tax. We didn't have alcohol but both had soft drinks and Franck's fantastic version of a wedge salad (would have licked the plate but my wife would have killed me) in addition to our entrees. I highly recommend. By the way, I do so even though I own 10 casual dining restaurants across the state. We aim at a different segment but I know a great restaurant when I'm in one. Our immediate reaction was to book tables to take our extended family of 14 back for dinner Sunday. Unfortunately, they close on Sundays and Mondays.
