RUDE AND OVERPRICED. I went here trying to get a simple poster framed using my Groupon. After explaining to him that I wanted something simple and inexpensive, he began, "oh, I see. CHEAP okay" and then asked if I had a Groupon. After informing him that I did have one he then proceeded to chastise me for not showing it to him earlier and then gave me a ridiculous quote. I was introduced to FrameStore via a Groupon that my husband bought for me. While the pre-discount cost was more than I would have expected, the Groupon made it totally affordable. Marina spent nearly 30 minutes with me and was super helpful in selecting just the right frame and mat for the art print I brought in. She also recommended other Groupon options so I could save more on my next visit. It is clear that the folks at FrameStore take their work seriously and are committed to giving customers a high quality product. DO NOT BUY THIS GROUPON! The worst retail experience of my life. How bad? Bad enough to sign up for Yelp just to review it. This is a factory pre-fab chain framing operation posing as a top shelf, hand-crafted boutique. I brought a variety of things in different sizes assuming something would slip into my price range and I'd be able to get some value from a $100 off coupon. What did I end up with? framed two miniature movie posters for about $350. yes, you're reading that correctly. I had to go with the smallest artwork I had and after using two $100 Groupons I still paid $150 and left with a soreness about my abdomen. I'm convinced the pricing was inflated specifically because I was getting a discount. There wasn't a price tag on anything in the store. Also, the guy behind the counter, Wesley was pretty pushy and discourteous. He leads off the conversation accusing me of being cheap and then lays in with the sarcasm. If I wanted a joke from him I would have followed him into the employee lounge on his break and watched him groom his mustache. When I revealed that my "cheap" ass wouldn't be able to afford the first quote he gave me (something on the order of $700 to frame an average sized poster) he sarcastically told me "I don't belong here" which, since I had already sank $60 into Groupons before crossing the entrance, put me off. I'll admit to being naive about the costs of framing artwork, sure, but you'd have to be a f*cking invalid to pay $700 to frame a poster. Also, the waiting time is pure insanity. 15 days to frame two posters at such an incredible price? For a factory framing store the least you could expect is a little alacrity. I have been sick to my stomach ever since I paid $1500 to mat and frame three paintings that I did in a beginner watercolor class. What was I thinking? Lesley was very nice and accommodating. He took a lot of time and helped a lot with my choices. He helped me choose supposedly half price frames and took off the $300 in coupons that I had and then said he gave me 1/2 off of that. That means the price would have been $3300 originally! Since I had already purchased $90 worth of coupons, I didn't want to waste them and so agreed with the $1500 price. Ever since, I have been kicking myself for being so stupid. I thought that the total might be around $500, and instead spent triple that. Ironically, I had bought the coupons because I wanted to find a place that I could frame my beginning paintings reasonably. Somehow, I got the impression from the coupon description that The Frame Store would be just the place. I even traveled an hour to get there! Boy was I wrong. I can't imagine anyone going back a second time. Take my advice and save yourself a trip for the first visit! read more

From beginning to end, the Frame Store folks were professional, knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Wesley has a good eye for picking out framing for the original caligraphy art I brought in. I liked it so much, I brought in another art piece. Bryan helped me that time and was also helpful. It might cost a little more than other places (I used a Groupon both times), but the quality and service is worth it. I even got a Van Gogh art card from Wesley after I picked up my framed art. I will come back here if I need framing for my fine art or precious photos in the future. read more

This is not the place to get a poster or cheap print framed, this is the place to get your original Picasso framed before lending it to the Norton Simon. I foolishly walked in with my groupon and 50% off coupon thinking I would get a good deal on a custom frame. I spent about an hour matching different mouldings and linen mattings. I went for the amazing "museum glass" figuring I was only paying half. Then I got total, minus $100 for the groupon, and with the 50% off, plus another $100 off because the guy was being "nice:" $1200. I almost fell out of my chair. In the end I decided I loved the frame and managed to get the total down to $750 (goodbye anti-reflective museum glass!) and just bit the bullet. Overall I'm pleased with the final result, but I definitely felt taken and wish I could have afforded the better glass. Next time I'll go elsewhere. read more

Sorry, FrameStore. The prices here can only be described with one word--exorbitant. I, like many of the other Yelpers here, bought the $30 Groupon for the $100 credit at the store. It sounded like a good deal because you think you can get quite a bit for $100, right? Not here. I figured I'd use the $100 credit towards a frame from my diploma, and just pay whatever was in excess of $100. I went into the store, picked out a very un-fancy frame with a matting on the inside. Then the lady quoted me the price...a shocking $413. Yes, four hundred thirteen dollars--for a simple frame the size you would normally use for the diploma. I think I literally reeled back in surprise. I told the lady (who was very nice , by the way) that the cost was just way more than I expected. I ended up not using my Groupon (what a waste of $30)--the first time i have not used a Groupon that I purchased--and going to framingsuccess.com. I spent a total of about $135 for a STELLAR looking frame, with my school's name, emblem and colors. The surprising thing about this store is that it is still in business. I really dont' know who would come here with their framing needs unless they are completely clueless about the market prices for framing. Obviously, I can't speak to the quality of the framing work they do here, but I think other stores can do equally as good a job. Will not be coming here again.... read more

This place quotes preposterously expensive estimates in order to make you feel like you're getting a deal when (after they've given you an estimate about three times higher than any other custom framer would) they then offer you 50% off the estimate, as if they're doing you a favor--a favor they apparently offer to nearly everyone. I brought in a Groupon, which gave me $100 worth of framing for $40. After all was said and done, I ended up paying, after the 50% "discount" and the Groupon, probably $30-$40 more than I would have if I'd taken it to a comparable custom framer. This is shameful business practice, FrameStore. This makes me wonder if the entire chain operates on this fraudulent premise. Simply out of principle--as I felt deeply offended by this transparent form of manipulation--I will never, ever give FrameStores my business again, unless I hear they've changed their ways. We have had several things framed.. Every single piece has come out Fantastic.. and the prices are not that expensive... She is always so pleasant and very friendly every single time.. I came in with a "living social" coupon bent on getting my degrees framed without having to pay extra (a tall order I thought for a fancy frame store that "frames for museums"). Boy oh boy, was JAYME the BEST! He worked his little tail off to get me the best price on a mat & even let me break the rules by bringing in my own frame. I truly appreciated his efforts to get me the best deal. He didn't try to up-sell me with fancy glass or a custom frame. I walked out the door with a $0 balance & couldn't be happier w/ the mat he accommodated to fit two degrees in one frame (and a cool color he suggested). I think he is moving to framstore in Brentwood (sad) but you should track him down if possible; you will be treated like a queen (or king)! read more

My experience tells me that framing a large piece is going to cost a sum of cash for which I'll need to squirrel away funds. I did find a Groupon offer for a $100.00 discount toward custom framing at Framestore so I thought I'd go see. One might think that once you have made the decision to frame something that you could take it anywhere, but NO. It might cost the same elsewhere, but they do not have WESLEY to help select your frame and mat. We spent time deciding where it would hang, the color of the room, the amount of space it would fill. We considered texture, finish, and light. I can't say enough about his knowledge of the craft and his taste level. I left confident that the right choice was made despite the (cough) cost, Still when I picked it up, I got a little chill. It's perfect. No I didn't cut a corner, but it adds SO much to the room. Wesley is just terrific at picking the right frame for the art. We brought in for framing two abstract latin american abstract paintings, one painted with primarily black and white acrylic and the other with earth colored paints mixed with sand. Our third piece was a 1959 charcoal on onion skin abstract drawing. All three were very hard to match with the right frame, even though--or perhaps because of--the large selection from which to chose. Wesley, however, zeroed in on two to three choices per frame that were all good and at least one of which per painting was just right. Then he spent a lot of time working with us to design the mounting of the artwork: recessed mounting, floated mountings, flush mountings, mounting board colors, textures and sizes. In the end, he spent well over two hours of uninterrupted time working with us to develop perfect frame/mounting designs. We are really pleased; and the pricing was just right. We only dropped them off today, so I can't yet comment on the final work product, but we are very, very happy so far. He was a pleasure to work with and a real professional. You may want to make an appointment before just dropping by, because he obviously devotes a lot of time to his customers, one at a time. We came in on a Sunday morning, so we were lucky that only one person (who also had a lot of unique art) was ahead of us, but we just walked down to the local Starbucks and enjoyed some iced tea while we waited for Wesley to finish with the first customer. First of all, let me say I've never walked into a frame store before. I just completed my first triathlon and decided to frame my finisher's medal, photo of crossing the finish line, and my bib. After meeting with Bryan at the store, first thing he asked was "what's your budget?". I thought this was strange as he didn't ask about where I would be displaying it or how high (or low) end I wanted the materials. My first mistake was telling him I've never framed anything before and I had NO idea how much I should budget. After assuming I was interested in framing a piece that intended to be hung at the Norton Simon Museum, he quoted a price of $350-$400. After I got up from the floor he said "Well that's for Museum Glass, best materials, floating display, etc etc etc blah blah blah". I said this was a lot more than I had anticipated for a simple display using average quality material. He completely disregarded what I was telling him and kept pushing his $350-$400 display. He said he would tinker with it a little and call me with an updated quote and email me with sample displays of what he is envisioning for my piece. An hour later he called me and said he would do it for $275 (after a discount). I asked him to send me the email (that he originally suggested) so I could get a better idea of what the quote represented. He never emailed me. I went back to his store and met with Mary. I asked her to have Bryan call me and email (as he said he would). Nothing from him. I took it to another local frame shop...AMAZING quality, customer service was world class, extremely accommodating...oh and the cost $103. Lesson learned....sincere customer service could have probably won me over at FrameStore in Pasadena. The other local frame shop has a loyal consumer. read more

Please be aware that the prices in this store are way way too high for what they are selling. I have framed over 30 pieces, from expensive art, to pictures drawn by the kids, and I have a pretty good sense of what framing should cost. On a recent trip to this store, I was quoted $700 for a 22"x22" frame with regular glass. Normal cardboard matte, simple wood frame. I was immediately told that I get a 50% discount off that price (why? cause I look good?) for a cost of $350. In my experience with quality framer's in West LA and Boulder, CO I would have paid about $150 for the same frame. What gives? Do people just take his word that you have to pawn your car to be able to afford a frame? Please avoid this place. read more

I spent only about 4 minutes in the store and I left knowing I would never enter the store again, vowing to let others know of my horrible experience with a man I presume to be the owner. I came into the store in the afternoon and caught him leaning over a project., totally out of sorts. He immediately snapped at me.... he would not be able to give me any time or attention... he was doing something terribly important and treated my like I was bothering him to even dare to enter the store. I asked if I could just browse the sample frames and he sort of barked at me.. What was I looking for? I gave him some information of what I was after and he called out some horrendously high price without really listening. Clearly, he didn't want to be interrupted. Not a problem for me.... I will gladly take my business elsewhere. Once I got over being treated that way I asked my self how The Frame Store in Pasadena could possibly stay open for business with him for an owner. I wouldn't do business here again if it were the last Framing store on earth. I bought two$30 for $100 off at Frame Store Groupons and ended up just wasting one because the price is so crazy. I was prepared because I already read about the prices on Yelp but would never be prepared for how rude Wesley, the salesperson, was. He was inpatient from the start when he saw my Groupon and I didn't know exactly what I wanted out of the hundreds (seriously) of choices. I was the only person in the store as he impatiently tried to rush a decision. What's worse when I came to the store to pick up my order and I wasn't satisfied, he displayed his fabulous customer service by telling me he knew what I ordered and got it right. Whether or not that was true his delivery was so nasty "Let me explain something to you"...with his scrawny finger waving at me. I was so mad at his attitude I visualized throwing him through the plate glass window. Who acts like that with a customer? He took a situation where a customer is unhappy to a very negative situation with his attitude. Is he going through menopause or something?Get this man some estrogen! I found Wesley to be a miserable man with no customer service. He warmed up after a bit but it was a bit painful. He refused to do glass for my Groupon. Which I was told my another employee was ok. My husband picked up our piece and he was visiting with a woman (not a customer) and he stood there for at least 10 minutes before he waited on him. He spent a long time with me about framing choices, and was interested in the artwork I brought in, which wasn't anything fancy (just some amateur paintings). Yes, framing can get expensive, but I wasn't using any type of coupons and the prices were comparable to what I have paid at Aaron Brothers, right up the street. I can't remember when I have experienced a more rude and condescending salesman. The prices were also outrageous. I left feeling exhausted, annoyed and insulted and wasted 45 minutes of my day trying to accomplish a very simple goal that could have been easily executed by a reputable and good framer. An hour later I left Michaels, happy as can be, great customer service framers, very friendly, budget conscious and knowledgable. Wesley is very clearly good at his job. He worked with us, helping us frame our degrees. He didn't try to push us to super expensive items nor did he just push the cheapest items either. He was trying to make our degrees look good. And they DO look good. Pricing always seem high at first, but it makes sense for the quality. I have been to Frame Store Pasadena twice. I worked with Wesley twice. I didn't use Groupon because I am aware that the deal is not the deal you think it is when you carefully read the "fine print". It seems unfair to castigate the proprietor when he didn't set the terms of the Groupon deal! I think it's important to note that in many of the other reviews the customers were very pleased with the outcome. In fact, several reviewers said that. Wesley's fine taste made their inexpensive piece look more substantial! That certainly has been my experience. Moreover, Wesley was professional and knowledgeable. If you can't afford pricey art (like me) doesn't it make sense to try to show it to its best advantage with superior framing? Otherwise a cheap poster in a cheap frame looks....well, cheap! I just got back from placing an order with the FrameStore. Since I had a project to do, I had bought a Groupon for it though I had never tried it before. After reading the previous reviews, I was a little hesitant to go there but since I already had my Groupon, I more-or-less had to go. Well, my experience there was fine. I walked in without an appointment, although it might be wise to make one. I hadn't thought about it before. The store had no customers so the nice young man there, Jamie, was able to devote all his atttention to me and we put together a very nice looking set of frame and mats. Midway through this process, another customer walked in, again without an appointment. Since there was only one salesman, I was a little worried that things would get difficult. However, her project was somewhat easier than mine and we managed to muddle through without too much unhappiness. I'd say that so far my experience has been excellent. I can't wait to see the finished product. So my suggestion to everyone would be to make an appointment before going in. That way you are sure not to be hurried out the door. read more

Marina was very helpful. She has a good eye for how to appropriately frame a piece not only for the art itself but for the place where it will be hung. After an initially negative experience when the framing chosen covered over the artist's signature (unbelievable that such a thing would be allowed), Marina came on board and sent the piece back to be reframed. It is a contemporary piece that just seemed to escape the understanding of the first person who sent it for framing. Just want to follow up on my experience earlier with FrameStore. At the time the Groupon was available, they wouldn't let me use it with that 50% off deal which has been going on as advertised on their website. The deal that came out of my discussion with Wesley was NO DEAL. He gave me an initial quote of $1,400 for a simple 20"x24" custom work, plus another $350 just for museum-grade glass! I took my work later to Aaron Brothers, and got my glass for just $98 after their 40% off coupon. Framing also cost me $150 with Aaron Brothers next door. The cheapest framing option with FrameStore, on the other hand, was well over $300 for the same!!!! Wesley's customer service was also bad. A very rude man. As he was entering my information into the system, he reprimanded me for: "why didn't you show me your Groupon earlier? Geez" Then he proceeded to quote me another price (higher) before the use of this Groupon! What is this, bait and switch? I will never come back to this store ever again. Ever. read more
