We were happy with the framing job done through the Frame Store. The frame to a treasured family painting had been damaged when transported from the East Coast. They took the time to talk to us about the look we wanted and to explain different options. Work was done within the time frame promised. The pricing was competitive, though they went through a weird process of pretending it was much more expensive and giving us "discounts" to reach the final price. He seemed to take it personally and became hostile towards me when I told him my budget. Instead of being open to discussion or trying to work with my budget, he kept saying I wasn't listening to him and even challenged me to call every frame store in the area to see what they would say to my budget. I don't tolerate this type of treatment so I left. By the way, I went online to eBay, identified four frames that exactly matched my piece and ended up ordering one for less than $150ish (including tax and shipping). I installed it myself and it looks AMAZING. This is a unique frame that's 20x26 inches in gilded gold, about 3-4inches wide and came in the mail after just a few days. It took me some time to write this review, largely because the experience left me feeling embarrassed and disappointed, not just with the outcome, but with how I was treated throughout the process. I invested in a large-scale, editioned photographic print by a UK photographer I deeply admire. It was expensive, but incredibly meaningful to me, something I expected to treasure for the rest of my life. Because of its size and value, I wanted it framed properly, and I deliberately sought out professionals I believed I could trust. I knew this wouldn't be cheap, so I waited and saved specifically for this. The print arrived carefully packed from overseas. I didn't even open it myself. I contacted The Framestore ahead of time to confirm they could handle framing at this scale and was told confidently that they could. An appointment was booked. At the store, we met Bryan, who was friendly, enthusiastic, and reassuring. I have very little framing knowledge, so I leaned fully on his expertise and followed his guidance on every decision. What's important to say here is that pricing was never discussed at any point during the process, not once. The print was unwrapped during the appointment, which made the situation feel irreversible. At the very end, Bryan presented a final number and asked, bluntly, "How do you want to pay?" When I expressed shock, the response was simply, "It will be beautiful." I felt put on the spot, pressured, and honestly foolish, but at that point, backing out didn't feel like a real option. I accept responsibility for not asking about pricing sooner, but the lack of transparency felt deeply uncomfortable. Still, I tried to move forward with optimism, trusting that the cost would at least result in museum-quality work. When I finally got the piece home, that optimism collapsed. The print was covered in visible ripples, creases, and pinch marks, as if it had been mounted on crumpled paper and handled roughly. It looked genuinely awful. The corners of the frame were also poorly joined and visibly open. I contacted Bryan immediately. He was calm, almost unsurprised. Photos were taken. I later received a voicemail saying they saw no issue. That response was frankly shocking. Emails went unanswered. Phone calls went unreturned. I eventually had to stay on the phone with Bryan while re-sending images just to get acknowledgment, and even then, there was no accountability, no apology, and no ownership of the damage. I returned the piece to the store. Again, everyone was pleasant, but no one could explain what had happened. Weeks passed. After repeated follow-ups on my end, I was told they would re-frame it and that vacuum mounting could fix the damage. At this stage, the store had had my print for nearly three months. Still, no apology. No discount. No recognition of the distress or inconvenience. When I collected the piece again, it was improved, but far from resolved. There were still visible ripples, a noticeable smudge or finger prints on the inside of the glazing and surface issues. I sent photos. I called. I followed up repeatedly. Eventually, after months of trying, I gave up. This experience started with excitement and trust. I was happy to pay a fair price for expert craftsmanship. Instead, I feel taken advantage of, dismissed, and made to feel stupid for trusting professionals to guide me. I'm left with a damaged print, a poorly finished frame, and something I now feel a bit embarrassed to display. I will likely have to save up again to have the piece de-framed and fixed elsewhere. I like reading reviews before I post one. Wow, anyway my experience with Brian was Great! Having said that, I purchased my Chanel #5 Marilyn Monroe print and was Devon where to go to get it framed. I will say this place is cool. Anyway first thing that caught my eye walking in were the other prints. So I had received this online coupon from the internet and thought this is great, let's try it. Now I too, was taken back by the cost of framing prints/posters these days. Now to be fair I checked Michael's and for an 8x10 they wanted 79. And change. So I was prepared as to the cost. Now the Marilyn print has always been my fave and I found her to be worth proper framing. Now Brian set me up showing me different framing and I chose the gold . He said it would be ready maybe at the end of March or middle of April. He said it could be sooner. I went with it because I wanted it done well. It seemed pricey but I wasn't going to do it myself. Well about a week later Brian called said it was ready! Wow! When I saw the print in the store, It was so worth it. It was perfect. And done in a Very timely manner. I love working with Maria Snow. Hands down the best experience from start to finish. I came in to frame some Depeche Mode memorabilia that I had been holding on to for YEARS. I was lucky enough to get an album autographed by them in 1990. I also had some limited edition lithographs from 2007. Maria was great, we worked collaboratively on each piece. She really knows her stuff. She started working part time at a framers when she was in college. She's now 70 and she likes the same music as I do. So we hit it off immediately. While the limited lithographs had some damage (I had kept them in the box they came in for 15 years and some of the paint had started to crack) it wasn't an issue for me. I just didn't want it to get worse. And honestly - why didn't I frame this stuff years ago, right? I have to say that I'm really impressed with how well Maria knew her stuff and she has great style. Her attention to detail is above and beyond - she has to overlook the final product before giving the "ok" for it to be shipped back to the store. I cannot be happier with how everything turned out. Again, from start to finish - Maria was amazing and I will definitely return and work with her again next year when I have my next set of posters that I want framed done. Thank you so much Maria!! Worst experience ever with a custom frame store. Brought them my murakami print to get framed. Long story short... They creased my print from obviously poor handling. Took twice as long as promised. Then "repair" of the crease took another 4 weeks. The crease still visible. They also caused discoloration on parts of the piece due to mishandling. Quality very mediocre for the insane price they charge. Bryan also lost my packaging material and proof of purchase from kaikai kiki gallery for my piece! I specifically told him I need it back as proof of authenticity! This Bryan character. He is probably the most dishonest and fake person you will ever meet. He will act super enthusiastic when meeting him in person. "Oh I will take care of this piece like it's my baby". BS! Everytime you call Bryan is saying he will call you back but he never does! I had to tell him "no you are not hanging up on me!" in order for me to ask him for an update. I was about to have them do my two other murakami pieces. Good thing I waited to see the result before sending them the other pieces. Take your prized art else where. This place will charge you an arm and a leg to f*** it up. We dropped off three posters to be framed two months ago, at a cost of over $1,000. We were told the framing would be ready in a week. Two months later, no one had called us. When we called them, we were told only the woman who took our order could tell us what was happening with our posters, and we needed to call back on Sunday, when she works. We called back on Sunday, and she wasn't there. No one seems to know anything about our order, and now we're being told they need our invoice number to follow up. They said they cannot find our posters by searching our first and last name. WTF? We paid the FrameStore $1000 to frame our posters and now it's like a wild goose chase just to find out if they're finished and how to get them back. This is ridiculous, unprofessional, and unacceptable. Save your money and your time and find another place to do your framing. read more

In mid-December, 2023, I spoke on the phone to Bryan/Brian at the FrameStore in Pasadena. (I've never encountered a salesman so smarmy: he came on the someone doing a bad impersonation of an over-caffeinated game show host.) I told him what I needed in great detail: size of print, type of plexiglass, dry-mount to Foamcore, white spacers, matte black frame with 3/4" face, 1" depth. He quoted me a ballpark price of "$500-600". I was astonished! Over the last 15 years, I've had apx 50 of these same prints framed in the same way, with the same materials, at different shops here and in NYC, and the price has always been $175-$225, maybe $250. Where was he getting $500? I asked what could be done to lower the price, but he told me someone had come into the store, and he had to get off the phone. He said he'd call me back, but never did... Until today, 5 days later. Again, he started off with the big, fake, super-cheesy come-on--but his tone changed immediately after I told him I'd gotten the work done elsewhere. I asked him, since it was he who'd called me, if he could satisfy my curiosity about that super-high estimate he'd given me. How in the world had he arrived at that figure? Thus began five minutes of delirium, as he jived and improvised, his voice now hardened and snarky and dismissive: he called me "bud" and said I was "amazing", which he didn't mean as a compliment. He lectured me about the quality of the materials they used, and basically told me that my past experience, as a consumer of frames, was worthless, since I'd clearly never shopped at a super-pro, high-end place like The FrameStore. He interrupted me, talked over me; he got louder and more agitated, like a guy arguing politics in a bar-fight. Then he hung up on me. My humble opinion is: If you, as a customer, agree to the overpriced fees Brian/Bryan proposes, then you'll have a smooth and pleasant experience, and you can write a glowing review of this clown and his store. But just know: you might be getting gouged. And, as several other reviews have testified, once you've agreed to give him your business, a variety of delays and misunderstandings *might* await you, and that's when you'll encounter the Brian/Bryan behind the creepy sales pitch. read more

I should have read and trusted the bad reviews here before taking my pieces in. 1 piece was a new framing of art and it was fine but was definetly pricier than it should have been. I thought the coupon I had for being a new customer would have brought the final price down but it didn't do much and I felt a bit pushed into just agreeing. That's on me though. The other, I wanted a rematting of a an old piece I had already had done. To save a bit on costs I decided, with Brians Input, to have a third mat put on top of my bottom 2. So 1/4 inches space between each layer of mat. They didn't measure to make sure the matting was equal all around and I guess didn't even look at it before handing it over to me? I saw the discrepancy in size immediately when I unwrapped it at home. Took it back in, I honestly didn't love how the 3 mats looked so asked since it needed to be complelty redone anyway if I could just scrap all 3 and go with 1 new mat. Brian went on and on about why it wasn't possible and that I'd be charged the hefty price again as a complete redo. I said okay well if you can't then I just want a refund..the initial incorrect matting size was their error in the first place. He changed his tune and said he'd ask the boss if it could be redone completely or if they'd have to just fix the size they had incorrect. I thought he was going to let me know before proceeding. They just changed it without asking me. When I went to pick it up again, there was glue stuck to the front of my frame. He got it off, but is there no quality control before handing over, not inexpensive, framed art to clients?? My original frame when I took it in had rubber backs on the corner to protect the wall, missing those when I got it back. Also, I went in here to 1. Support a local business, 2. They had a coupon...the coupon wasn't valid for much of the simple stuff I was trying to do so...not sure? Agree with some other posters on Brian being a strange type of sales person. I will start with the positive. The quality of work done is top-notch. My framing came out exactly how I requested it, and it looks fantastic in my home. Bryan is extremely helpful and knows his work inside and out. My only real complaint is the price/time ratio. I came in on a Monday, and was told it would be done within the week. Wasn't able to pick up until Saturday of next week, and that was after having to play phone tag for a few days. For the price I paid ($$$), I would have expected a more timely completion. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt as I could see walking in they had quite a few orders being filled. Quite honestly, we were very happy with the work, but I think we were even happier with the shopping experience provided by Bryan. Here is our BAD experience with this store!  We didn't feel the decency in the basic business practices here: Dropped off four(1 medium and 3 big) oil paintings to be framed to this store on Sept. 29, 2021 at a price of close to $3,000.  The finished products were supposed to be available for pickup in about two weeks on Oct. 14, 2021 which was written on the receipt. Called the store prior to Oct. 14, 2021, and were told that there would be a delay of about one week.  Called again on Oct. 21, 2021, were told that they were still not ready for pick-up.  One piece had to be returned for correction, and another piece out of four was put in the wrong frame and needs correction too.  Finally on Oct. 29, rec'd a call from Bryan, the store keeper, that they were ready for pick-up, and that he had checked all of them to be in good shape. Rented a cargo van and picked up all 4 framed paintings on October 30.  On the spot, we could not unwrap the bubble wrap to check due to the very limited parking space, which was also clearly expressed to Bryan at loading and tying the frames tight in the cargo van. At the same time, we checked with Bryan if all hookers were attached to the paintings, but he said, "unfortunately no".  He told us to go to Home Depot to buy them at  $1 each. Just SPEECHLESS. After unwrapping the packaging the next day for hanging, we found one of the frames was chipped, and the other had the painter's original protective film still nailed into the frame.  Both had to be sent back for correction again(luckily we had a big SUV for the frames, otherwise we had to rent the cargo van again). On Nov. 2, 2021, spoke to Bryan and complained about the quality of work and hassle that had caused us.  Requested to get a proper refund to compensate for all the troubles and extra trips we had to go through.  He said he would forward it to his boss. In the following days, it was hard to get Bryan on the phone.  So we emailed the store owner to file a complaint on Nov. 17, 2021 requesting the proper refund.  Went to the store the next day to check on the status, and the store owner happened to call in to the store. He spoke to us over the phone.  Owner Chuck said he received our complaint and would be resolving the case quickly within a few days.  SO we were grateful and relieved then that the owner had stepped in and promised to give us a satisfactory resolution of the complaint. But the final result is that the so-called boss' promise has NEVER been honored in any form. We received the two correction pieces on Nov. 20, which was more than one month later. When inquiring about the proper refund that the store owner had promised to solve our complaints over the phone, Bryan responded: "please show us where he promised you any kind of refund."  We were SPEECHLESS again...... For those who need the framing services, do your research and make your own wise choice of an honest service provider! read more

I love this store. I started here by buying a Groupon deal. I was happy with my prices I paid, and my artwork looks beautiful. Bryan is my guy. He's passionate about his work, he is enthusiastic and does great work. I've had 3 pieces done and more on the way. I get really sad reading Yelp reviews in Pasadena because it seems people in this city love to tell people when they don't like something versus telling people when they do like something! I'm still waking up in laughter in the middle of the night, thinking of this experience... So I know I've thrown the term around, "I almost shitted myself," in the past... but my visit to this place was probably the closest I've ever come to shitting myself. I went it with my Tippr coupon to get a 18x24 POSTER PRINT framed in a simple 1/4" frame with glass. Seeing that the coupon was for $100 credit, I figured I was more than covered, although I was extra excited to see what the outcome would be, after reading these reviews about homeboy, Mr. Wesley. I came in and asked for exactly what I wanted, which made it obvious to him that I know what I'm talking about. When he goes to ring me up, he tells me the total would be $212, minus $100... for 1/4" frame and glass to frame a poster. My body didn't even know how to react at the moment, as I felt like either punching him in the face, or just... shitting myself. So you understand the extent of my overreaction to this, my regular framers over at Downtown Framing just finished framing the SAME SIZE prints... for $26! Yes, you read that correctly, the same exact work I was being charged $212 for, I had just gotten done for $26 the week before. The only thing I can assume is that the wood that is being used here is from the cross that Jesus was crucified on, or possibly from Noah's ark. I don't know... The only positive thing I can say about this experience was that contrary to the other reviews, Wesley was actually very nice, was not pushy or moody, and even gave me a large piece of cardboard to keep my piece in good shape. The shadiness and travesty of this business as a whole, was bad enough for me to complain to the both the BBB and Tippr. It's just wrong. read more

I thought this place was EXPENSIVE when I first went there, but after seeing the final result, I realized why it was the price I ended up paying. It's on par with other good/expensive framing houses. I figured I'd be looking at something around $3-400 for framing a rather large (20"x30") print given my past experience with something half the size in addition to the savings I'd get for buying the $100 Groupon. All I can say is I don't think I've been as sticker shocked before (and I have expensive tastes) or had my jaw drop on prices more so than at this place. Despite the expensive factor, these people know their stuff, and will help pick out and recommend matching mats and frames. Just know that this is no IKEA or Aaron Brothers, so expect to pay a bit of money. This is for people serious about framing For anyone familiar with framing, know that the mats are all fabric (or wrapped with fabric) and not cardboard. I ended up getting double mats because I'm fancy like that. Second, the frames were expeeensive! Ok, maybe it was just because I have expensive tastes and my print was BIG. The first one I picked was quoted at around $1500!!! WHAAAAAAT!!! I (apparently picked out one of the most expensive ones available). *pat on the back*. I had to go through about 8 more frames before I found a cheaper one that was closer to something reasonable. I definitely had buyer's remorse (and kind of still do just from the sheer cost) from what I ended up paying (like WHY did I spend so much money framing a print), but when I finally got my completed frame, I was actually in awe of how great it looked in addition to how BIG it ended up being (hence the expensive price). In hindsight, the price for everything was about right given the size of the piece and the framing quality. What's interesting is that each layer of the mat is completely covered up with the fabric so you don't see the white area in cardboard mats. The finished work was completely professional, and added a layer of sophisticated-ness that I don't have in other frames I've had done. This will definitely be a centerpiece on my wall because 1) it's HUGE and 2) the quality is top notch. Save this for the expensive artwork or sentimental pieces. read more

Wesley, in the Pasadena store, was an arrogant, condescending wonk, all upset because he said people actually wanted to use their Groupons and not have to pay an additional $200 to $300 for framing. Here's what's funny: I asked him how the Groupons were going. You know, asking if it brought in new business. He wasn't happy with Groupon, he said, and wished -- this is important -- "the company" never started with them. Too bad, I said, as a franchisee, it must be a pain to have to get stuck with Groupons. Nope, he said, this isn't a franchise, I'm on an owner. Hmmmm, I wondered, how then does this work, you being an owner and getting stuck with having to take Groupons. It turns out that Wesley, with his pompous, pretentious attitude, is THE owner of 13 FrameStores, probably along with partners. So he agreed to do Groupon, I'm guessing to make some extra money, only to be disappointed that Groupon customers weren't willing to pony up an egregious amount above and beyond the $100 credit for framing (And I'm not kidding: One 8x10 print, with matting, frame, and glass cost $300 OVER the Groupon coupon.) It's certainly too late for our Groupons, but if you have even an inkling of walking in the FrameStore, stop yourself. Prices are exorbitant and the attitude is dismal. ("What, you don't want the 'museum-quality glass' for another $100!?") Think I'm being narrow minded? No problem -- just read the dozens of other Yelp reviews to help encourage you to stay away from any of the FrameStores. read more

AVOID!! This business is a HORRIBLE place that tries to SCAM its customers. I bought a "$30 for $100" voucher from Amazon Local and have since gotten my refund and filed a complaint. I went in looking to frame a diploma and was given an estimate of over $800!! Then, the attempted scamming began. Here's how it works: 1) Quote you an ungodly amount for framing (in my case, it was over $800 to frame a diploma); 2) Try to make you feel better by offering you 50% off; 3) Tell you none of the affordable frames can be redeemed by voucher; 4) Pretend some more to fidget with the computer and still hustle you to pay about $200-$300 for a frame; 5) Insult you when you are shocked by their business practice. I told the rep very clearly I wanted to spend $200 maximum -- taking into account the 50% off and my $100 voucher -- this would mean nothing out of pocket. He responded point blank, "It will be impossible for you to spend nothing out of pocket". I then asked him whether he was telling me it was impossible to frame a diploma for under $200 when other places were doing it for $50-$60 and he responded, "Exactly". I went in having read all the reviews, but was hoping they had changed their deceptive business practices by now. Nope. read more

I went in b/c I got the groupon deal thinking this little thing is so small it should cover most, if not at least half of the cost. After choosing one of the simplest and cheapest frames and a double matting, the total came to $440!!! AFTER the groupon discount of $100!!! Seriously now, I've gotten plenty of nice things framed over the years and this was total and absolute robbery. I couldn't even keep a straight face when he broke down the cost for me, I just let my $30 groupon cost burn. The guy was nice but who cares when you're being charged more than 3 times what other reputable and long-standing framers in Pasadena are charging?!?!? The BAD.... So here's the deal...It's expensive. Even with the groupon deal and the 50% off online coupon. My boyfriend works in high end galleries and knows what a good deal is on framing art. After all my discounts applied the bf said I paid an average price for a good frame job. Too bad my piece of art is probably worth half of the framing. And to bad I bought a coupon that wasn't really a coupon in the end. The guy who helped me was bit short when it comes to people wanting a good deal... DONT ADVERTISE COUPONS ON GROUPON THAN...That's the point...People wanting to try something at a cheap price and if it turns out to be a good deal, we come back. With that said... I would come back if my piece looks better than expected and I come into some money. Cause that's the kind of people this Framestore appeals too...and rich people don't buy Groupons. The GOOD... I really like the guy who helped me at the store. I want to dislike him cause he has an air of elitism...but he has great taste and he knows what he's doing. I like that he used to be an art director and creative director in advertising and left it behind to retire and work in the little Framestore in Pasadena. Okay, I read all the negative reviews and debated whether I should just let my Groupon lapse or not. On the last day I decided to give it a shot. The piece I had framed is approximately 11x17 and, even with my $100 Groupon, still cost another $270. So...this is not a bargain framer. That being said, I'm very please with the way the job turned out...it looks wonderful. Mr. Wesley was a little flustered the day I first went in because he was about to close. But, we ended up having a very nice chat and he was nothing but the epitome of professionalism and friendliness from there on out. When the piece was sent out and the guys got the matte wrong, Mr. Wesley sent it back (actually had to send it back twice) to get it done perfectly. I was starting to get impatient, but I'd rather wait longer to have it done right than get a half-arsed job for my money. He even sent me a lovely thank-you card after it was all done. Sure, I paid what seemed like a lot (especially compared to all my artist friends who have used other framers for years), but I feel like I received really good service. It's the first piece of art I've ever had professionally framed (sad, but true), so I'm okay with forking over the cash this time. Unfortunately, there's no way I could afford to get everything framed here. I have such a huge backlog of art from my friends that I'll most definitely need to go to Downtown Framing to get them all taken care of. First things first. This place is high end framing. Don't plan on coming in here to drop a ben to get something framed. Plan on paying for a masterpiece. Groupons are nice, but they are not going to pay for it all; they're just going to help. All the mats are fabric wrapped. Most of these reviews fail to mention that, and that is what got me in the door. You can't go to any of these big chains and ask for a fabric WRAPPED mat. Most of them don't even know what that is. It's believed that all framing is the same... its not. If you have art that you care about and want it to be framed correctly you don't grab a ready made frame off the wall. Sometimes custom framing is not the answer either. You are entrusting whomever frames it to treat it right and care about it. It's like trying to tell someone a story that you are super excited about, but you don't know how to express your excitement. You want people to just understand, and that is what FrameStore are. People that understand your art and how to treat it the best they can. I came in on Friday December 12th, and was greeted by Tava. I had an idea of what I wanted and he threw in some fantastic ideas. I asked him if I could bring in museum glass and if I could use that instead of them charging me for theirs. I was able to get it at a better price and was glad that Tava allowed me to do that. I brought the glass back on Sunday December 14th and met the ever famous Wesley. Tava had told me that Wesley was their best designer, so I of course asked him what he thought of my design. I asked for his opinion and was fully prepared for him to disagree which he did. He didn't not like mine, he just thought he could make it look better. He told me what he would had done. He was right, it looked much better. It is so refreshing to ask for an opinion and truly get an honest response. Most frame stores would just tell me it looks good (because the customer is always right, right?), but he knew of a better design and he cared enough to tell me. I am so thankful for Wesley's honesty. He totally rules. I'm only giving 4/5 because I am eagerly awaiting the completion of my order and I'm sure it will be what I always wanted. Crazy story... Got to this place around 5pm on Nov 23rd, they were supposed to close at 6pm that day. The door was locked, but I saw some people inside, so I knocked. A guy opens the door and says "we're done taking orders for today!", visibly irritated for some mysterious reason. I respond with "no worries - can I ask you a quick question though?" (wanted to check what was his approximate turnaround time, didn't want to drive all the way back to his store if he was already slammed with too much work).
