Recently, I needed to have four antique English etchings matted and framed -- I'd always used Mission Framing in South Pasadena (since 2001) but hadn't visited the store since it changed ownership. To my pleasant surprise, the experience was seamless! The quality of service and care demonstrated by John and Grace was exceptional! John patiently answered all of my questions and took the time to help me select the perfect matting, framing and glass for my artwork. The project was completed in half the time I expected. When I arrived to pick up the order, Grace showed me the pieces and made certain that I was happy with the each one. Grace explained the method she used to identify the correct measurements to ensure proportional balance. So impressive! Clearly John and Grace take seriously what they do and enjoy making artwork reach it's "exhibition potential". Needless to say, the final outcome was beyond my expectation! I was referred to Mission Framing after a rather lackluster interaction with another framing store located in the neighborhood on Lake Avenue. John, the owner is an absolute professional; he is kind and considerate and has been doing this for over 30 years. We spend time deciding on the frame and the mats for several pieces and he took his time and gave good advice. This is so in contrast with the other framing store on Lake who was more interested in calculating the price! Grace works with John and she is an artist painter; She is extremely meticulous and a very genuine person with her own witty way that I appreciate very much. The end result was so meticulously presented and perfectly done that I have nothing more to say! If you need framing anything, go to Mission framing as they will produce great work! And the by the way, the price is much less than the other store on Lake !!! PS: I am offended by another post who used profanities to describe a kind man. Super disappointing experience with this framing shop. I had a painting my husband and I had purchased to celebrate our 10th anniversary and was really excited to get it framed locally. Unfortunately when we got the piece home we noticed the canvas was attached diagonally to the stretcher bars. Sloppy, but not the end of the world and I imagine not too hard to fix since it could be unstapled and then stretched straight and perhaps a floating frame applied to cover the holes left by the uneven staples. We took it back to the shop and explained the issue to the person working in the shop, not the owner. Our next interaction was a phone call from the owner, John, saying that there was no way to make me happy so he was going to refund me and I need to come pick up the artwork. There was zero discussion at all or any offer to try and fix the mistake and zero acknowledgment of the mistake. I have attached the photos showing the piece stretched, the back of the canvas where you can see it has been applied diagonally and then the canvas unmounted where you can see the outline of where it was stretched and stapled on the diagonal. Over the course of 18 months I have had about 16 items framed. I have used all types of glass and acrylic. On the very expensive pieces I've use museum glass on the lessernormal glass. On one piece I used acrylic because it would simply have been much too heavy for me to lift had I used glass. I have had various items framed in various types of framing. Additionally, I had four other items that had already been framed many years ago from different framers that needed some attention before they could be hung and they did a fabulous job. I only deal with John, the owner. In fact, I'm getting ready to get in my car and bring two more pieces down to be framed. I normally don't be reviews, but for whatever reason today I was reading the one star reviews and after I was done laughing I felt I should leave a positive one. So there you go... In the past, from 1994-2019,I was delighted and happy of Olaf and Helga's great framing work..I was saddened knowing they were retiring in 2020...when I went into the shop with new owner, he was helping 1 customer....ONE CUSTOMER....no one else in the store....as I walked in with a rolled print, he just barked at me "...stand over there,It'll be a few minutes..." wow...ok...after 3 minutes, I just walked out and decided, "I'm never setting foot in here again with this schmuck in charge...." What a local gem of a store. I've lived in So Pas for 6 years and always walked on by. I needed a small piece of original art framed as a holiday gift and thought about an online store but then remembered Mission Framing. So glad I did. The advice, the quality of the work, friendly staff and not to mention speed was all outstanding. They do all the work in store and is overseen by the owners. My piece was completed 3 days before I needed it and you can even sit and wait if you are in that much of a hurry. They work right up until Christmas Eve. Wonderful. Olaf and Helga are not only two of the kindest people you will find, but they are outstanding framers. Not only is the framing done here museum quality, but they are wonderful at helping you create the perfect combo of frame, mat, etc to enhance your piece. Owned by Olaf and wife Helga. They are the cutest, most awesome owners I've ever met! They love their job, and take pride in their work. When asked what their tag line is for their business, Olaf responds, "Our reputation hangs on your wall." LOVE IT! So I have now had two things framed here, an 18X24 inch print, and a custom print from my wedding (8X24 or something strange like that). When you walk into the back part of the shop where all the frame samples are, it can get very overwhelming, there are corners everywhere! But, it is a good idea to walk in with an idea of what you are looking for (color, style, thickness, etc). If you choose a frame that is not in stock (like I did), the order took about a week to complete. But, on the other hand, I also chose a frame that they did have in stock, and that order only took a couple of days! The price isn't cheap, but I am a firm believer in the saying, "you get what you pay for" I didn't understand that until I turned my frames over and inspected the BACK side. The detail they put into it is AMAZING, and that's the side nobody sees! They seal the edges right up against the backing of the frame, so no dust or bugs find their way into your frame and onto your picture. On top of that, they also attach these two little rubber "bumpers" (as my wife and I call them) to the bottom of the back side of the frame, so when you hang your frame it sits more straight instead of the top tilting toward you like its gonna fall. If you want a standard picture framed for cheap, go to Target. If you want high quality, custom framing done, come here. I'm definitely coming back! read more

First time client. I like to use local businesses as I've lived here for a long time. After a month over the due date I still had not heard a peep. I went in and nobody knew what happened to my 2 items, couldn't find the ticket, apparently they still were not done. I was told to return. Once they were done the work was good, very well done. Helga and Olaf are the BEST!! They take such care with artwork, they are meticulous with details, colors, and textures and they always give a fair price. Besides that, they are dear people who are open to new ideas. They also do MIRRORS! I told Helga my dream to have three 7 ft framed mirrors all lined up and she didn't hem or haw, she MADE IT HAPPEN! Normally there is some jazz playing in the background as you peruse their copious amounts of frame samples, mat samples, glass samples, plexi-samples . . . did I mention they have a lot of samples (and well organized). They have been framing things for my family since my kids were kids. I cant say enough positive things about Mission Framing, Ive had several posters framed there and both Olaf and Helga are amazing to work with. Helga's eye for detail really comes in handy for those of us that lack the ability to see the end product. Her suggestions are always spot on and the care they take in making sure you walk away happy is alway present. Ive stopped by many times just to get quotes and ideas for different prints and posters I collect, and they are always just as courteous even if they know I'm not committing to anything at the moment. I have known Olaf and Helga for 15 years. I have used them for 10 years having them frame everything from my wedding picture, paintings from family and pictures of my children. They run a professional shop, have tremendous knowledge in framing techniques and options and care about what they do. I recently brought them a velvet painting that once hung in my grandfathers house. The painting had tremendous sentimental value to me because I would see it every time I visited my grandparents as far back as 35 years ago. This velvet painting was something they had probably;y picked up in Tijuana but I saved it because of the memories. It had been sitting in my garage for 10 years and had tears in the fabric. I knew I could trust Mission Framing to get it right. I dropped the painting off in the morning and by the next day it was repaired, restored and looking like it probably did some 40 years ago when my grand parents bought it. I am taking it home today to hang. My wife probably wont like it but I will and will think of my grand parents every time I see it. Thank you Mission Framing.
