I was referred to Mission Framing after a rather lackluster interaction with another framing store located in the neighborhood on Lake Avenue. John, the owner is an absolute professional; he is kind and considerate and has been doing this for over 30 years. We spend time deciding on the frame and the mats for several pieces and he took his time and gave good advice. This is so in contrast with the other framing store on Lake who was more interested in calculating the price! Grace works with John and she is an artist painter; She is extremely meticulous and a very genuine person with her own witty way that I appreciate very much. The end result was so meticulously presented and perfectly done that I have nothing more to say! If you need framing anything, go to Mission framing as they will produce great work! And the by the way, the price is much less than the other store on Lake !!! PS: I am offended by another post who used profanities to describe a kind man. If this customer was unhappy with the work, all he had to do is to come back!

Super disappointing experience with this framing shop. I had a painting my husband and I had purchased to celebrate our 10th anniversary and was really excited to get it framed locally. Unfortunately when we got the piece home we noticed the canvas was attached diagonally to the stretcher bars. Sloppy, but not the end of the world and I imagine not too hard to fix since it could be unstapled and then stretched straight and perhaps a floating frame applied to cover the holes left by the uneven staples. We took it back to the shop and explained the issue to the person working in the shop, not the owner. Our next interaction was a phone call from the owner, John, saying that there was no way to make me happy so he was going to refund me and I need to come pick up the artwork. There was zero discussion at all or any offer to try and fix the mistake and zero acknowledgment of the mistake. I have attached the photos showing the piece stretched, the back of the canvas where you can see it has been applied diagonally and then the canvas unmounted where you can see the outline of where it was stretched and stapled on the diagonal. It was off by about an inch.

Quality bonding and little bumpers so it hangs flat.

Incredible attention to detail! Mission Framing turns anything they frame into a work of art. Even my business card!

It took me some time to write this review, largely because the experience left me feeling…read moreembarrassed and disappointed, not just with the outcome, but with how I was treated throughout the process. I invested in a large-scale, editioned photographic print by a UK photographer I deeply admire. It was expensive, but incredibly meaningful to me, something I expected to treasure for the rest of my life. Because of its size and value, I wanted it framed properly, and I deliberately sought out professionals I believed I could trust. I knew this wouldn't be cheap, so I waited and saved specifically for this. The print arrived carefully packed from overseas. I didn't even open it myself. I contacted The Framestore ahead of time to confirm they could handle framing at this scale and was told confidently that they could. An appointment was booked. At the store, we met Bryan, who was friendly, enthusiastic, and reassuring. I have very little framing knowledge, so I leaned fully on his expertise and followed his guidance on every decision. What's important to say here is that pricing was never discussed at any point during the process, not once. The print was unwrapped during the appointment, which made the situation feel irreversible. At the very end, Bryan presented a final number and asked, bluntly, "How do you want to pay?" When I expressed shock, the response was simply, "It will be beautiful." I felt put on the spot, pressured, and honestly foolish, but at that point, backing out didn't feel like a real option. I accept responsibility for not asking about pricing sooner, but the lack of transparency felt deeply uncomfortable. Still, I tried to move forward with optimism, trusting that the cost would at least result in museum-quality work. When I finally got the piece home, that optimism collapsed. The print was covered in visible ripples, creases, and pinch marks, as if it had been mounted on crumpled paper and handled roughly. It looked genuinely awful. The corners of the frame were also poorly joined and visibly open. I contacted Bryan immediately. He was calm, almost unsurprised. Photos were taken. I later received a voicemail saying they saw no issue. That response was frankly shocking. Emails went unanswered. Phone calls went unreturned. I eventually had to stay on the phone with Bryan while re-sending images just to get acknowledgment, and even then, there was no accountability, no apology, and no ownership of the damage. I returned the piece to the store. Again, everyone was pleasant, but no one could explain what had happened. Weeks passed. After repeated follow-ups on my end, I was told they would re-frame it and that vacuum mounting could fix the damage. At this stage, the store had had my print for nearly three months. Still, no apology. No discount. No recognition of the distress or inconvenience. When I collected the piece again, it was improved, but far from resolved. There were still visible ripples, a noticeable smudge or finger prints on the inside of the glazing and surface issues. I sent photos. I called. I followed up repeatedly. Eventually, after months of trying, I gave up. This experience started with excitement and trust. I was happy to pay a fair price for expert craftsmanship. Instead, I feel taken advantage of, dismissed, and made to feel stupid for trusting professionals to guide me. I'm left with a damaged print, a poorly finished frame, and something I now feel a bit embarrassed to display. I will likely have to save up again to have the piece de-framed and fixed elsewhere. The saddest part is that every time I look at it, I'm reminded not of the art but of how badly this experience went.
